- Grace (6/5): -
- Donna (4/5): disappointed - there were cobwebs on lights, switches that didnt work, bathroom very grubby it was very dated and tired, i have stayed before at this hotel. nothing worked switches etc
- jeffrey (8/5): Would definitely stay there again - Exceptionally clean, large FREE car park and bus stops right outside , best way to get around. The rain shower
- Alan (10/5): perfect place for us - we only saw 2 staff but the hotel is really excellent, clean, beautiful room (4 poster bed)jacuzzi bath and shower, very good continental breakfast. nothing
- Yvonne (10/5): - Very welcoming, helpful and clean. .
- David (3/5): Although the location was lovely and included free on site parking I could not recommend this hotel to anyone else. - Location to the town How clean the room was, although we were told about it being a wedding venue the music was so loud and went on until after midnight. The temperature of the shower was too hot and could not be controlled.
- Jackie (3/5): Wonderful staff and location but needs investment - It’s a beautiful property with wonderful staff … but the four poster bed creaked with every movement and the room was very noisy. And there are not enough staff around
- Mike (8/5): Very comfortable , friendly ideal location - Everything was excellent .. No Guinness on draft ( personal choice)
- Silvia (8/5): Perfect location outside of Cambridge and close to the lakes. Great value compared to Cambridge. Would recommend - Nice decor, well kept. Quiet location but close to the town The double room/ bed was way too small. Even for two kids it was two small- two adults would not fit in a small double bed. Some issue with cold water not working in the bath which made it difficult to use as piping hot.
- Greg (8/5): - Nice location clean hotel nice staff
- jessica (8/5): See you soon. - The staff were fantastic and decorated lovely. The noise from the disco made my dog stressed but the manager was brilliant and helped the noise not as loud, but when we stay next time I will ask for a room the other side of the hotel.
- Jeremy (5/5): A nice looking hotel, ideally located but some aspects of the service were disappointing - The staff tried to be helpful although couldn’t always deliver. A nice ambiance to the place, including decor and outside seating.
The hotel was in a good location for our visit. There were too few staff needed to run the hotel. Reception was not manned and when the bell was rung, no staff came to answer. There was no staff hotel uniform and it was unclear whether the few individuals were staff or not.
Evening meal choices were very limited and the grapes with cheese board were frozen.
The shower only ran cold water and the bath water speed was very slow. There were limited toiletries of shower gel and shampoo.
Lumpy pillows, comfy bed but small for a couple to sleep well
Breakfast very simple. No cooked breakfast option, no marmalade, only one pot of jam for all hotel guests
There was no concierge service for booking a taxi for us
- danny william (9/5): Very nice 1 night stay and will return again - Ample parking , good location close to river . Decent cotinental breakfast . Welcoming atmosphere N/A
- Kayleigh (7/5): A little tired, but a beautiful town and helpful staff - Staff were great, beautiful outside space and great location for town centre. Food was good. Room was like a sauna heating was on full blast with window open, tap was broken, jacuzzi bath didn’t work and scuffs all over the walls and woodwork, just a little tired. Should have bought own pillows as they were very thin! Drinks on the expensive side, paid less in London for a round.
- Jeannette (3/5): Shambolic sadly, from beginning to end. - Location perfect for my stay, as I was there for a funeral occasion. The hotel was the base for the occasion. Lack of staff availability. Breakfast was shocking, and I was unable to contact any staff member for assistance. Had notified hotel previously, by email, of my dietary requirements, which were reiterated to me on booking in. Requirements not met. Rang bell at reception five times in total on first morning, at breakfast and in desperation, emailed the hotel from the dining table. Spent almost two hours at the table hoping to catch a human to speak to and receive a response and a breakfast. Another resident walked around the hotel and spoke with a member of the cleaning staff on my behalf who came down, apologised and brought me some gluten free bread. I am indebted to that member of staff. I even found my own way to the kitchen assuming I would find someone there for sure. Not a soul! Hotel totally under staffed. With regard to dietary requirements, there is an exceptionally high risk of a potential medical emergency at some stage. I will be writing to management about all my issues today, as I checked out yesterday after a three night stay and have so many issues to raise with them. (Just for the record, I have NEVER complained about a hotel stay before and I am a pensioner. I am in no way a ‘serial complainer’ and want to make that abundantly clear to anybody who may read this). I write this with a heavy heart.
There were several other issues that were negative including ‘health and safety issues’, which I will address with management by letter.
- Natasha (6/5): No - Room is very nice and clean
Staff was amazing very friendly
Shower was nice
Bed was comfortable had a great sleep
Breakfast was nice Too hot for us
- Beryl (10/5): - Lovely hotel and friendly staff Nothing
- Jim (9/5): Family Meeting - Ideally placed for where we needed, very welcoming and lovely staff, definitely worth stopping. Nothing
- David (10/5): -
- Richard (7/5): -
- Edward (2/5): Unfit to receive guests. - No hot water. Nio staff. Worrying leak from dining room ceiling.
- Kevin (7/5): -

- Mark (6/5): Lovely town, nice venue, girls on reception were great as was the barman, think his name was Will. - We spent our wedding night there 20 years ago, lovely setting and perfect place to sit outside in the nice weather 20 years ago it seemed very luxurious, now seemed very dated and run of the mill
Only offered continental breakfast, which we didn’t bother with as it wasn’t recommended by one of the staff. He moaned about the hotel constantly, and was quite offensive
- Dharmendra (3/5): Nice place, shame there was no hot water - Check in quick.
Bed was comfortable On this instance, there was not hot water in the morning. It seemed to be hotel wide as several guests also complained during breakfast time.
Also, there was a jacuzzi bath that didn't work, so they could have advised.

- Susan (5/5): A beautiful looking Hotel but I don't think we would do a return visit - The Hotel was very beautifully set out and in a good quiet location. Close to the town and bus routes.
Staff (when you saw them) very friendly and helpful.
We ate in restaurant first night and the food was good.
Clean throughout and pleasing on the eye. No lift so not good for travellers with mobility issues.
Room was long and thin which left little room either side of the bed to get in and out and the plug for recharging phones etc was in a difficult to reach location under the bottom shelf at the side of the bed. Small television quite a long way from the bed and mounted high on wall. No comfortable seating to sit nearer to watch.
Rarely anyone about at breakfast which was a problem for me as I had asked them to store insulin in the kitchen so had to go and hunt for it myself.
Breakfast was exactly the same things each day no variation and sometimes drying out .
On booking in I was promised a full English breakfast on Sunday which I turned up for at 8.30 to be told Full English started at 9.00 I remarked that it was a short period of service 9.00 - 9.30 for people to obtain breakfast. (In our room it stated breakfast 7.30 - 9.30) I was then told that Full English was 9 until 10. As we had already arranged to meet family at 9.30 we had to miss it. There was no notice to say the times of the English Breakfast were different from that stated in the room.
For the 3 mornings the room we normally had breakfast in was set up for an event so the continental breakfast was set out but we had to search for where they had put our table setting and one morning of these the bowls, plates and cutlery were in the room with the breakfast with nowhere to sit in that room. We had to decide where to go. There were no notices to explain why things had changed and what to do.
Overall poor planning for breakfast facilities due to a shortage of staff presence.
- Olivia (10/5): It is a great place to stay, beautiful location and very comfy, clean rooms. - Beautiful hotel and a great location!
Free parking. Breakfast could do with some improvements. Poor selection and the pastry’s didn’t seem the freshest.
- Nick B (8/5): -
- Guest (6/5): -
- Mary (5/5): Beautiful hotel lovely staff , couple disappointing bits for us - Location , style and staff were lovely There was a heavy metal music event in while we were there , the noise outside our room at 12.30am from the event staff packing up was not pleasant abd very inconsiderate plus our room was not ready until 6.30pm
- Lisa (8/5): Nice relaxing easy stay - Pretty building, in good order nicely decorated, friendly welcome from reception Na
- John (8/5): -
- Margaret (8/5): Enjoyed my stay and would go there again. - Location was good. The buffet set out for the party was very good.
Staff very friendly.
Bedroom clean, bed very comfortable. Bathroom good with everything you need. The breakfast food was good but was let down by the plates being cold so the food quickly became cold especially the fried eggs.
There was no lunch snacks only a restaurant menu which was not suitable.
- Carol (7/5): Nice hotel, lovely staff, needs further investment. - Good continental breakfast with a decent variety. The communal areas were lovely and well decorated, and the beds were comfortable. The bedrooms looked nicely decorated at first glance. Staff were very quick to respond to any concerns. Cleanliness in the rooms could be better, especially above head height – there were cobwebs around the lights and ceilings, and some bulbs were out or flickering.
There are also many steps throughout the hotel, which makes it less accessible.
The rooms could do with some maintenance and updating, as things like the toilet roll holder were loose and there were drainage smells in the bathroom.
Security to the rooms could be improved, as there was no peephole on the door and no option to double-lock it from the inside.
- Anne (8/5): -
- Mervyn (8/5): -
- tracie (9/5): -
- Lauren (8/5): - Lovely rooms and bathrooms, very comfortable sleep, extra heaters in the rooms, etc. Didn’t seem many staff around during our stay. We thought the bar was shut until somebody asked and we were told it was open, there was just nobody manning it and I think the lady on reception was also having to cover the bar so you felt almost bad to go out again to ask for more drinks. The same with breakfast the next day it was all laid out but nobody around. This might’ve been because there was a large event taking place that evening I’m not sure.
- Chris (6/5): - Location Unable to use shower as the hotel had issues with water pressure
- dean (3/5): I had paid a rate for a full English breakfast which I verified with the hotel only to be told there was only continenta -
- Julie (5/5): Slightly disappointing - Comfortable bed Hot water in shower could not be made cooler, too hot. Had to flush toilet 3 times for it to flush properly . Would have been nice to have a cooked breakfast. No one staffing the bar.
- Gary (7/5): It was comfortably pleasant. We came for a band we follow. So not all lost.We had a great night - The property was beautiful..Plus the room was immaculate The breakfast was continental. But myself and my partner are vegan.Plus my partner cannot eat wheat..No oat milk available,or gluten free bread.so we basically didn’t eat.Couldn’t find any staff 8am to ask the question if what we required was available..Our fault I guess for not putting our dietary requirements
- Deborah (7/5): -
- Marie (4/5): Disappointing for the above reasons and certainly not worth the price I paid for the room. - Buffet breakfast satisfactory.
Location ok for my needs. I had no heating in the room - radiators not functioning, so I was cold.
The water was also cold, even after running it for several minutes and so no shower was possible.
- Gerry (8/5): -
- John (6/5): - Continental breakfast was fine. Breakfast time was quite early but think that was to accommodate people who were staying because they were working in the area. The room was really hot. Even during the night the heating was on. Had to sleep with window open.
Hotel seems a little tired in places.
Best part of our stay was the staff. Not many staff it seems but those that were there were really helpful and friendly. Think they are the saving grace at Slepe Hall Hotel.
- Ernest (4/5): -
- Charlie (3/5): Don't stay in Room 18 - Location was great, just a short walk in to St Ives. The staff on arrival were very friendly and the breakfast was good on both of the mornings that we stayed. The room and bathroom were very clean. Our room seemed to have a boiler/water pump (Not sure which) of some kind right next door to it (We were in room 18). This came on multiple times during the night (As late as 1AM) and first thing in the morning, when it got going it sounded like the room was going to take off, therefore impossible to sleep through. Very disappointing as the room itself was nice but for the price me and my partner expected to be able to actually sleep through! The shower was also very poor, think maybe a problem with the pressure as it was the weakest shower I've ever had. Did try to tell a member of staff this as we were leaving, but couldn't find anyone on checkout unfortunately. I'm sure this only affects the rooms near the boiler/water pump but to have not been warned is poor from the hotel, as I highly doubt we're the first people to stay in that room!
- jenny (8/5): Pleasant - Pretty hotel, nice staff Room was too hot
No lifts and too many stairs to negotiate with a heavy bag
- Deborah (8/5): Great central location, room was lovely, very high standard. The only thing wrong was that the spa bath didn’t work 😢😢 - Very clean and room was lovely. Bed was comfortable Received a call prior to stay to upgrade to full English breakfast, on arrival told it was no longer an option, also big party going on until midnight, not told prior to stay
- Brian (8/5): Pretty much as I expected facility-wise..//but the staff made the difference. - Staff were really helpful and friendly. We got the "best room" at the hotel we were told. It was very nice and "quaint" with a very large bath/bathroom No cooked breakfast available....cold continental only
- Nick (4/5): Disappointed - Lovely listed building. Nice internal decoration, comfortable bed, fluffy towels. Having booked a superior room we asked to be moved due to constant traffic noise from road, and the bass beat of music being played in the bar and reception areas, this continued after the bar had closed. Like warm water in bathroom and a jacuzzi bath that didn't work. Restaurant closed on Monday evenings, which is not made clear until booking confirmation email is received. Buffet breakfast is an array of items covered in cling film, warm ham and cheese, no fruit and no staff in attendance. Luke warm filter coffee. No reception staff for checkout, just box for room key so no thank you, safe journey etc. This maybe because they don't want to hear the feedback.
- erica (1/5): This was terrible we won't be staying again. - Good location and beautiful exterior of the property. On waking up, there was no caffeinated coffee in our room and no one available on reception to ask. We dressed and went down for breakfast at 9am and although it was served until 10am, all platters were empty and there were no clean tables to sit at. Again no staff could be found so we left without breakfast despite paying for it! There were three rooms in this situation.
Very early checkout time of 10am on a weekend.
Room was uncomfortably hot on arrival as there were two electric radiators on full heat.
- David (8/5): - Good location for my work. Nice relaxed vibe with an easy buffet breakfast and an easy checkout process. A slight delay getting into my room but staff were very accommodating and apologetic about the delay.
- Jackie (8/5): A nice New Year's Eve Stay - Location is great. It's a short walk into town. The route takes you along the river which was lovely to do on a crisp winter morning.
The bar and public rooms are really nice. As is the outside seating area. We felt the 10am check out was early for New Year's Day.
Our room was big and comfortable, but overall needs a bit of an update.
- Willis (8/5): -
- Billingham (10/5): - Value for money. Really lively family room. Nothing.
- Allen (8/5): - Staff. Top. Very helpful Shower didn't drain
- Alan (9/5): Great, would stay again but maybe in a different room. 🙂 - Fantastic hotel, staff and value for money. Slight downside is we were above the hotel entrance and a lot of door banging and noise below us until late.
- Anthony (5/5): could have been better if staff were present and more attentive - The Hotel is a very nice building We phone forward to say my wife was diary free, yet at breakfast they struggled to find the Oat Milk, and on the second morning there was no staff on hand, the cleaner very helpfully found the oat milk in the bar fridge
- Daniel (9/5): - Really nice location, about 5-10 minutes walk into town or the quayside which is a good place to sit with a coffee. Good selection of pubs not too far away, and some nice walks too if it's not been too wet; walking the river all the way to Hemingford in warmer months is nice.
- brian (5/5): Great -
- Simon (5/5): - Staff were friendly nice place to stay the shower in the room was out of order and couldn't be used, wasn't informed until I checked in.
- Donna (10/5): Perfect -
- Martin (8/5): We enjoyed our stay as location was ideal for our visit. - The room was very nice and the beds were comfortable. Hotel was clean and had attractive decor. The continental breakfast was okay but would be improved by having more choice of foods. Only cereal, croissants and yoghurt provided.
- Ruby (8/5): -
- Jane (8/5): -
- James (7/5): Would go again due to the town, - Breakfast was ok, location was ok for center of the town, Noise through window,
2 4 1 cocktails not available as advertised,
- Daniel (8/5): Check in super simple. Great location, nice continental breakfast (simple, but nice). - Nice location, few minutes walk into town. Nice continental breakfast (warm croissants A+). Room was nice and spacious, warm. Windows a touch old, but otherwise a really nice stay. Staff very helpful and welcoming. Nothing to really speak of that was stand out "bad". Only minor thing was the windows are quite dated/old which probably made it seem a bit lesser than what it actually is. Honestly didn't bother me, but it's asking for more info.
- Helen (6/5): For the money I felt it was over priced, sadly I would not return to this hotel, despite the lovely - Location, decor Bar Toilet had horrible stains all around the rim, jacuzzi didn’t work, spare duvet had a large blood stain on it, bedroom was cold, and the bed creaked really bad, no staff about, and Breakfast was very disappointing for the money I paid.
- John (1/5): not good - room clean and good breakfast shower in room faulty water so hot it burned i had to jump out to avoide injury there was no way to lower the temp the controls did not work . had it been a child or someone how could not get out in a hurry it could have been very serious.there was no members of staff anywhere to be found .i did explain situation to a cleaner hoping to avoid someone else having the same experience .i have phoned sleep hall a number of times but no one picks up and messages left have been ignored
- Richard (4/5): Disappointing. - Breakfast was a disgrace. This was a great shame because everything else about the hotel was very good. Breakfast. When I booked, the booking said a continental breakfast was included. On arrival we were told breakfast was available until 9.00. When we got down at 8.15, there was barely anything left. When a member of staff appeared and was asked about it, she said breakfast was 'complimentary' and that she could take it away! (Not that there was much to take away.)There were also only three dining tables with chairs available in a hotel with many more than three rooms.
We wouldn't stay there again unless they offered a decent breakfast. We wouldn't have minded paying a bit more for it.
- Denise (1/5): Lack of staff, underwhelming breakfast and WiFi that dropped out. Not 4 stars - Not a lot except it was conveniently located and had a car park. This is supposed to be a four star hotel but wasn’t. The plumbing wasn’t functioning properly in one of the rooms and when reported they knew it wasn’t but still put guests in that room. When some of our group arrived they couldn’t check due to shortage of staff who were dealing with an event. They were told to come back later. The hotel said the continental breakfast was complimentary and not included so if we didn’t like it they’d remove it. However when we booked it said breakfast was included. When the food ran out it wasn’t replenished. The breakfast was meagre, no fresh fruit, just unheated croissants and if you were lucky ham and cheese. The hot water for tea in the urn ran out and wasn’t refilled. Breakfast was underwhelming. When my vegetarian friend asked for cheese she was told there wasn’t any. Another couple complained about the lack of breakfast and the manager was extremely rude to them and us. It was impossible to find any staff on duty before 9am if at all. The bar didn’t stay open so you couldn’t have a drink in the evening and the staff seemed to go home before 10am and no one was on duty. I hate to think what would have happened if an emergency occurred. I wouldn’t recommend this hotel.
- Christine (8/5): Lovely staff, lovely hotel if in area again we would definitely stay here.100 percent 😁👍💯. - Fabulous location, reception lady was more than helpful and very welcoming 💯😁👍 Breakfast could have little more choice of cereal.
- Simon (6/5): Room very good. Location fine. Breakfast poor. Music an issue whilst it lasted. - Room was very good, with excellent facilities and in very good condition. Location, with ample car park, was a convenient walk into the centre of St Ives. Whilst forewarned, the music being played did disturb, although to be fair it did stop promptly at 10pm. The continental breakfast was very limited to the point of one cereal (cornflakes), one fruit (watermelon), no toast, a request for a refill of jam (for croissants as the only option) drew a blank, with lemon curd offered as an alternative!!
- Andrew (7/5): Adrquate - Very clean and freindly Lack of maintainable swirling bath not working radiator cover loose
- Daniella Claire Louise (8/5): -
- Chris (10/5): Historic, value for money, accepting that the industry is tough so exceptions allowed for. - Character, with this you accept the creaks and bumps in the night, all part of the experience. You also understand the lack of air conditioning and lift. Large Gravel car par to the front of the property, gives you that feel of grandeur, rolling through it with the car. As the hotel is open to the public, this brought an additional crowd of people. For me also endorsed, if the locals are using it,it has to be something special. Didn’t use the restaurant, however smelt great. As I was of to a local 50th birthday party at st Ives golf course. My room number on the fob of the issued key stated the number “12” I walked the entire top floor looking for room 12, couldn’t find it. Find all the numbers up to 18 , then they started in the “100” , after going back and forward, I asked staff , “ oh yes your in 112 , we drop the one but we know its floor 1. Why it made no sense is they only have 1 level above the ground floor. All they need to do is re do the fob to say 112 , on it, as I found that room , straight away.
- Lawrence (9/5): -
- Jas (3/5): Expensive for what you actually get - Location I have stayed here a few times and I have had a great time but since then something has changed, not sure if they have new owners.
They used to do a great hot breakfast but this time it was a continental but very basic. The breakfast table had ants all over it and I could not find any staff to let them know.
The bedroom itself was okay but one of the bed side lamps didnt work. The room had a jacuzzi bath that my nephew was looking forward to using, but I was advised that the jacuzzin function wasnt working.
- Valerie (5/5): Disappointing - Location My daughter and myself travelled down from County Durham (approx. 400 mile round trip) on Thursday 26 June 2025 to attend a family funeral. We were booked into the Slepe Hall Hotel for two nights, including breakfast. Upon arrival at the Hotel, we were informed that breakfast would be available from 6.00 a.m. to 9.00 a.m. On Saturday, 28 June we went down to the Breakfast Room at around 7.15 a.m. expecting to receive breakfast but unfortunately this had not been prepared and there was no-one in attendance at reception or any other part of the building. A bell was on reception to call for attention but after ringing it many times, got no response. The cold meats, cheese, jam, milk, coffee, orange juice etc. were sadly missing from the breakfast table and therefore we were unable to avail ourselves of something to eat before setting off on the long journey home; we therefore had to stop elsewhere at considerable cost.
We feel that we did not receive the service we had been promised and had paid for and as such, feel a refund is due.
- Susan (9/5): Great location, lovely and comfortable rooms - Clean, friendly and welcoming staff and lovely comfortable rooms
- sheila (9/5): I had a pleasant stay at Slepe Hall, the room was comfortable and clean . Staff were pleasant and helpful when they were - The room was clean and comfortable When I arrived the front door was shut and had to find my way in through a side door also experienced the door being shut on return just after 10pm . Also uncertainty about the opening of the bar . In this respect I found the place unwelcoming.
- David (8/5): -
- Gary (8/5): Very nice. -
- Yvonne (10/5): - Nothing was to much trouble, happy, helpful, smiling staff.... exceptionally clean & well maintained & warm.
Thank you x
- Alexandra (8/5): Beautiful hotel, great value for money - Warm welcome, lovely room and comfortable stay the difficultly in navigating the stairs and doors to my room, Doors opened onto stairs and it was a challenge with my bags.
- Carol (8/5): Overall we enjoyed our one night stay here - Liked the decor style & location A minor thing, pillows could of been softer & coffee pod hardly filled mug, had to use 2 and still less than halfway filled
- Jacqui (7/5): Excellent location - Clean room, friendly staff & good breakfast
- Darren (3/5): Room was like a sauna. Disappointing Xmas party. - The room was very nice. Reception staff were good too. Room was so hot, turned the heater off at the wall and a spark jumped out of the socket. I have never been to any hotel that doesn’t supply soap in the bathroom. We had a Christmas party in the hotel and the food was bland and cold. I even found a 6 inch hair in my pudding.
- Eric (5/5): - Great location The bedroom had cobwebs on the wall, there was a draught from the window, the bathroom smelt damp & mouldy
- Denise (9/5): Overall we enjoyed our stay , it does have a lovely boutique style small hotel feel - Enjoyed the breakfast but had to take plates and cutlery from someone else’s table which was a bit embarrassing as a guest , it would have been nice to see even one person who could have perhaps helped us with that Felt perhaps a key code could be introduced for the main door as we stood outside at midnight waiting to be let in after we had phoned the number on the door , it was cold and if I had been alone I would have felt vulnerable stood there at night time
