Hit my head on the door frame next to reception even after I was warned 😂

- Antonie (9/5): Alles gut.

- Peter (8/5): Enjoyed stay -
- BARBARA (8/5): Very comfortable with attentive friendly staff and very good food with excellent seasonal vegetables - Breakfast good freshly cooked, hot plates good selection and attentive staff. Extra items offered and refills of toast and drinks Bathroom rather dated and little space for our washbags. Towel rail not convenient to reach from hand basin shower or bath.
- Carolyn (9/5): i had a stress buster weekend at Brickwall Hotel , and it met all my needs. thankyou - all meals were actually excellent .! my compliments to the chef and front of house staff.
room 27 and bed were comfortable and clean .
receptionist was very welcoming and helpful .
plenty of free car parking spaces . the en suite bathroom was adequate although very small , even for me ( i'm a small woman).
this could be helped by turning the door round , so that it opens into the bedroom, rather than into the bathroom.
there was not enough space for me to dry myself after my shower , so i had to towel dry in the bedroom .

- Alison (8/5): Friendly, traditional, comfortable hotel in a good location for visiting East Sussex. - The staff at the hotel were really lovely; very friendly and caring. As a woman travelling alone to visit family I felt safe and respected. There were people staying at the hotel who clearly come every year, which is a good sign! The hotel has an old-world charm about it, and was comfortable and cosy. I really loved the residents' lounge, which was a nice place to sit and read, as well as to chat with other guests. My room was spotlessly clean and well-equipped and the bed was comfortable. I would definitely stay here again. It felt homely somehow! It's also in a good location for visiting places East Sussex. There really wasn't anything major that I didn't like.
- Nicola (10/5): Wonderful due to the amazing and very attentive staff. Our family has been a few times now and they feel like old friend - We love the little lounge to the right of reception. The bar is very nice, particularly by the nice fire. And the restaurant is wonderful Some of the bedrooms/bathrooms are a little dated but this is a very minor thing
- Shirley (2/5): It was like fawlty towers! - Not much Old unclean and really not my thing

- Michael (10/5): Lovely stay for business. Dog friendly and a breakfast to die for. - The room was lovely and the staff brilliant. My dog was greeted with enthusiasm and the breakfast was exceptional.
- Paul (8/5): - Good location and the main part of the property was beautifully historic. Breakfast was good. Staff were friendly and helpful. Perfectly good restaurant meal although the menu was a little dated. The room, although comfortable, was in need of refurbishment.
- Suzanne (10/5): Peaceful and relaxing - Location, very pretty village
- Trevor (8/5): -
- Jean (9/5): Lovely old hotel, with excellent food - Welcome was very good. Room was clean and warm. The atmosphere of the hotel was very welcoming. Hot water took a long time to come through. So standing in the shower with no hot water was an experience.
Also need to urgently upgrade to an electric shower as the hand rose in the bath is just a dribble.
- Gerald (8/5): -
- Sarah (9/5): Just a quick sanctuary in a warm cosy place. - The hotel is evocative if you are visiting the area for history which I was sadly on this occasion not, but the warmth of the team lovely and my room over and above. Nothing really, it was delightful.

- neil (10/5): - Hotel is amazing great location very helpful staff very clean and comfortable Nothing everything was great
- Ross (8/5): Friendly, helpful staff, quiet, a comfortable bed and lovely breakfast- couldn’t ask for - Very friendly staff, comfortable bed and great breakfast I couldn’t stand up in the shower- but it’s a very old building with low ceilings, so couldn’t be helped

Good choice at breakfast Radiators on high all night
- Daphne (10/5): Our Ruby WA.event and stay at the Brickwall hotel - Staff are so welcoming from arrival at reception through to restaurant and bar. Owners live on site and like to chat with customers.
The building is old but well maintained and is a v cosy place to stay . We had a Ruby WA event for 44 guests. Food was of a very high standard and service was exceptional.
Breakfast was the same . Not applicable
Douchen in bad.

- Colin (10/5): Our stay - Everything, what's not too like, it was clean, staff were friendly, food was good. Nothing
- David (8/5): Superb staff and dinner/breakfast is exceptional. Bedrooms fine but En-suites need replacing. - The staff, breakfast and dinner were exceptional. Everywhere was clean. Plenty of parking. Beds and pillows comfy, large bedroom, plenty of storage, plenty of tea coffee, biscuits and bottled water. If you don't fancy stopping there then book in to at least eat dinner. If i lived in the area it would my go to place for the evening meals. The bathrooms. Clean, hot water, good towels but badly need replacing.

- Gillian (8/5): Good would recommend - Great location
Attentive staff Only had a bath although shower attachment nothing to put it on so couldn’t have shower
- Graham (6/5): very convenient location and would go again. - Breakfast was good but somewhat limited in choice. The hotel seemed a little dated
- Nicola (10/5): - Lovely warm welcome. Great service and happy staff. It was a pleasure to stay.
- Caroline (9/5): We will return!! - Attentive staff at reception, the bar and the dining room. The charm and polite attention to detail of this family business was so refreshing. The evening meal was very good, pan fried sea bass just perfect and a generous portion of tasty vegetables. The breakfast was plentiful, excellent cooked breakfast/smoked salmon & scrambled eggs, quality ingredients.
- Carol (7/5): Quiet and relaxing stay - Location was quiet.
Restaurant was inviting.
All the staff we met were super helpful and friendly.
Our Duvet was really soft and cosy, fell fast asleep as soon as I snuggled under it. Bathroom felt dated.
Mattress felt a little hard for us but that’s a personal preference issue.
- Janice (10/5): - A quirky hotel - very old in parts plus newer extension. We had a spacious bedroom with 2 armchairs and a very comfortable bed. A modern bathroom, but with little shelf space to put toiletries or toothbrushes (a tumbler, perhaps?). Some complimentary toiletries provided. We booked to eat in the restaurant each night and were not disappointed with the quality or quantity of the dishes. Breakfast was cooked to order. All members of staff very friendly and helpful. ~Although we did not use the bar, there was an extensive wine list. A very comfortable lounge for guests with books.
- Eveline (8/5): - Friendly staff, comfortable room, good breakfast Heavy smell of bleach in the bathroom, but it was very clean
- dan (8/5): -
- Peter (8/5): Apleasant experience - Excellent breakfast, swiftly serverd.
Very good reading lights over bed.
Courteous staff.
This place is well run.
(We didn't have dinner here but menu looked good.) Nothing
- Ann (6/5): Disappointing - This hotel had quite a few plus points but, regrettably, a few more minus points. Plus points included friendly waiting and management staff, a pleasant lounge area, overall cleanliness and a comfortable bed. The problem was that the room and en-suite bathroom were very dated. The bathroom had a cracked, broken shaving mirror and faded white plastic toilet handles. Despite a comfy bed, it wasn’t always possible for my husband and I to get a decent night’s sleep as the walls were paper thin and we could hear our neighbours snoring, watching television and using the toilet. Time to invest in some updating, insulation and soundproofing. Although not an issue for us, access to the rooms for the less mobile would be difficult due to many stairs and corridors.
Breakfast was equally disappointing - the orange juice tasted as though it had been diluted, my husband (who likes his eggs quite runny) couldn’t eat his poached egg as is was both anaemic in colour and insufficiently cooked. He thought that local farm eggs would be used given the hotel’s rural location. He was also disappointed that black pudding did not feature as part of the ‘full breakfast’ options and that the brown sauce used was of poor quality. The ‘Queens Head’ opposite was very handy though and we enjoyed our visit there. Other than breakfast we did not use the restaurant as we were visiting family in the area. Wi-Fi reception was also problematic on occasion. We felt the room cost was expensive.
- wildrover57 (9/5): Pleasant one night stay while exploring Kent & East Sussex. - Shown our room by very pleasant lady receptionist who explained arrangements for dining at the hotel & made sure we had everything necessary.
Comfortable bed & chairs.
Hotel is situated in a quiet village with a pub within 2 mins walk which also serves traditional food. We enjoyed a good pie & mash with seasonal vegetables. A short stroll brought us to the Village Shop where we bought our usual Sunday newspaper.
Tables in the dining room at the hotel were laid with white cloths. A continental buffet breakfast was set in one corner for guests to help themselves & there was an excellent selection of cooked to order options. Efficient service & plates beautifully presented. Coffee/tea was served at the table. Unfortunately, the television in our room didn't work despite the m
anager's efforts and we were disturbed by rather loud conversation from bar below until about 11.15pm. However it was a Saturday night & the group of guests were clearly enjoying each others company & not being intentionally rowdy!
There was quite a lot of dog barking emanating from the conservatory adjacent to the dining room during breakfast. The hard surfaces were amplifying the sound. Difficult to please both pet-owners & other guests, I suppose...
- Ian (6/5): So so option. - Attractive spaces in bar/restaurant. Pub 1 min away. Bed comfortable. Parking. Tired decor. Room and bathroom needs a refurbishment.
- Daniela (9/5): -
- Steve (4/5): - Breakfast was excellent
Our room Was cold and damp, we left a day early due to this and on unpacking when home all our clothes smelt of the damp.
Room was tired and carpet and walls marked.
Room in dire need of updating especially the bathroom as floor got soaked when using the shower because glass shower panel seal didn’t work.
- Corry & Peter (10/5): Prachtig hotel, uitstekend restaurant. - Vriendelijke eigenaren, hele goede service en heerlijk eten. Niets
- Rupert (10/5): Enjoyed our stay. - Very friendly staff. Made us feel so at home. Great dinner and breakfast. Old style atmosphere, enjoyable.
- Gabrielle (7/5): -
- Sharon (9/5): - The staff were very friendly, nothing was too much trouble. They were very welcoming to the dog as well. The hotel is a little tired but was definitely value for money
- Graham (8/5): Beautiful hotel - Staff very friendly, food excellent, rooms clean and comfortable, but alittle tired with ceiling paint and walls peeling off, grounds and hotel is beautiful, restuarant is comfortable and beautiful set out, parking was ample, great value and near to lots of great places to visit, the local pub is lovely and great food
- Andrew (8/5): - Nothing
- Ian (7/5): -
- Sebastian (9/5): -
- Barry (9/5): -
- sandy (7/5): -
- Allan (8/5): Very enjoyable - Food and staff excellent Bedroom shower poor
- Gary (4/5): - Location was lovely
Ample parking The building is in need of a lot of updating
Paint falling of the walls
Facilities are very very old
Breakfast included was very dissapointing
- ANNE (8/5): Really enjoyed our overnight stay. Will be back sometime. - Porridge and later Salmon on Scrabbled Egg were to die for.
The public rooms were beautiful including the dining room and lounge.
The hotel is situated in a very pretty village making it a great visit. A warning about the very hot water notice in bathroom should be displayed.
The shower bath screen did not prevent water from flooding the floor.
The bed pillows were found to be too full and hard.
- Rob (9/5): Wonderful original hotel in a lovely village - Lovely staff, nice rooms and a nice menu in the restaurant.
- Caroline (10/5): Service with a smile! - All staff were so friendly and welcoming. Loved that we were shown to our room, which was clean and neat. The hotel has a certain dated charm as it was built in the 16th century but possibly needs a little bit of TLC eg our bath tub needed replacing as the top layer was chipped. However, shower was fantastic. Breakfast was enjoyable. Good selection on the continental and delicious cooked breakfast. Overall, comfortable bed, great shower and service with a smile - my top 3 key things I look for were delivered.
- Pippa (3/5): Complete let down- this was a wonderful place back in the day.,, now it’s Fawlty Towers - The location Dirty dated and very grubby
- Frank (8/5): -
