  A mixture of country-style and contemporary rooms, along with one of the oldest in the hotel - 600 years (Room 3). Here lies the original priest's hole used by the clergy to escape capture! One ground floor room (5) has been designed with easy access for the less able bodied. It is soon to have a large walk-in shower. There are limited views of the walled garden, mostly overlooking the walled, private car park. Please note that the kitchen fan, which goes off entirely during the night, can be faintly heard in the rooms by those who are sensitive to noise.

• Catherine (10/5): Lovely hotel in the heart of Beaminster - I'm reviewing this as backpackers walking The Monarch's Way, so our requirements are a warm room, hot water, a comfortable bed, somewhere for dinner and a great breakfast. Our room was ground floor and huge, with a very large bed, an even bigger bath (very welcome), and toiletries including body lotion and conditioner (no room in my pack for such luxuries!). There is no dinner at the Ollerod but apparently a food truck turns up in the evening (nice idea) and there's a bar, lovely garden and nice seating areas. We went a few metres up the road to The Red Lion and had a smashing dinner. Breakfast at The Ollerod is continental and proper; high quality meats, cheeses, breads and pastries and fresh fruit and cereal. Staff are delightful. A good centre for visiting this part of England and we recommend the Red Lion for dinner. Everything was great, thanks a lot!
• Peter (3/5): Poor value for money and poor restaurant facilities. - The general environment of the hotel, the town it is situated in and the attitude of the staff. What would prevent me from returning or recommending the hotel is an obvious lack of kitchen staff as there was no dinner service available and only a very limited breakfast service, and yet the hotel charged top dollar prices, that we would be happy to pay if the above mentioned services were provided. The list of eateries provided by the hotel in the local town included none that were open on a Sunday or Monday night. This meant that we had to arrive well fed on the Sunday and to travel to another town, Crewkerne, some 7 miles away for a Monday night meal.

We were upgraded to the downstairs apartment this was a lovely surprise. An old property with plenty of character, the location is perfect for exploring Dorset the being coast a 15 min drive.

• Garrick (4/5): disappointing, and will not be back - but the breakfast and staff at this point were great - the breakfast the fires were not lite, the staff were school leavers, the bedroom was freezing, as no-one had put on the radiators. The restaurant looked uninviting, and cheap. ( unlike the price). Shame as its a good looking hotel, ( and used to be classy) but run now like a night bar and by people who, not at their fault, not understand what it should be like to stay at a 3 star hotel.

Nous avions une chambre familiale immense, très confortable et très bien équipée avec une décoration raffinée. Le pub super et très chic avec beaucoup de gens des alentours. Une cuisine finement élaborée et délicieuse. Le personnel adorable et très professionnel. Bref un séjour inoubliable !!! Je recommande vivement.

• Gabrielle (2/5): Don’t waste your money - Good location in the pretty town of Beaminster. Poorly maintained property with basic rooms that overlook the car park and some sort of factory. Shabby furnishings and bed linen, room too hot but if the windows were opened you got cooking smells from the kitchen and the sound of a very noisy extractor. All this for the princely sum of £270 for a one night stay. Dinner was ok but menu very expensive and breakfast, well look at the picture below. Says it all. No manager in sight to complain to and the owner has not replied to my emails.

The breakfasts were excellent. I was a little disappointed with the dinner on Thursday - our only dinner in the hotel restaurant. The food was generally too complicated for my liking; also my half-lobster had about an egg cup full of meat, so £30 was rather a high price for that. Car parking was a bit of a problem.

BEDROOM Absolutely filthy mattress with several huge urine stains plus other smaller stains. YUK, JUST YUK!!. We couldn't speak to the landlady as she was rarely there. We should have refused to sleep in the room, but understand they didn't have another twin room., We had very personal reasons to sort out while down in Bridport, and we had to be in Beaminster because it is very local to where we were spending the daytimes, so we couldn't take a hotel further away, sadly. It was a shame because the bedroom itself looked nice and clean and comfy.... OBVIOUSLY JUST TOP SHOW BEDROOM Our room was located on the ground floor with the kitchen wall adjacent to our bed headboards, and the outside kitchen door was attached to our room next door. A Ridiculous place to have a bedroom, as no kitchen is ever going to be quiet. The kitchen staff were using an outdoor fridge across the car park. This resulted in the staff going in and out constantly, banging the door going out and coming in again. All this was right by our heads so no option of an early sleep PARKING Small car park took about 8/9 cars. Customers also using the car park for the bar and restaurant which resulted in guests who had booked rooms not being able to park when they got back. We were there for 3 nights and each evening had to wait in the carpark for over half an hour for someone to come out so we could use their space. THE BED WAS DISGUSTING The coffee was too strong and undrinkable for both of us.

• Simon (10/5): - The family suite was a great option for our trip. 2 teenage girls loved their room and we had a fab main-bedroom with superking bed. Bathroom was well equipped - the shower was so very nice - powerful and warm. We enjoyed spending time in the bar / lounge where premium drinks were offered. The team were on hand to help with any requests we may have had. The breakfast offer was really well enjoyed - cooked fresh with personalisation welcomed. We will definitely be back as it gave us access to Dorset and East Devon beaches, as well as nice market towns like Dorchester.

Really good breakfast - lots of different fruits, cereals and yoghurts to choose from, in addition to cooked breakfast. Staff were pleasant and welcoming. When I checked out, there was again confusion about my booking.com pre-payment. Evening meal was ok, but not a lot of choice, not many vegetables and rather over-priced. Drinks from the bar a bit over-priced.

I stayed there during Storm Darragh which resulted in the power being down at the hotel for nearly 12 hours. Candles and battery operated lamps together with extra bedding were provided. Breakfast when i asked for just the bacon and tomato i got 2 streaky rashers and half a tomato. Restaurant booked for second night table by log fire. arrived no fire. Why? we have run out of kindling - what a joke. same again next night when we looked in. We wanted to go 2 nights but were told same menu. 4/5 starters and 4/5 mains only so went to the pub. more i could say but ...Sorry to say a very disappointing stay.

It had seating and plenty of storage. The bathroom was good with a deep bath and plenty of hot water. The evening meal was delicious. Nothing apart from a fan from the kitchen below our window at the back which was quite loud. It did stop at night though.
• James (8/5): Perfect for couples - Lovely staff, great restaurant and food. Staff made the stay. Room needed a bit of TLC in places. So the light pull in the bathroom was broken. Light worked, just the weight on the pull. Didn't effect our enjoyment though.
• Graham (7/5): Lovely country hotel - Restaurant excellent. Superb bed. Grossly overpriced. It was clean but decor a bit old and tired with plenty of chips and dents. Conservatory furniture very stained and worn, replacements required. Family room suite toilet needs the sink unit to be taken out (bathroom next door) as restricts access to the loo. There is no hanging wardrobe in the large bedroom, however a small dilapidated wardrobe by the entrance door. Furniture not upto standard.

Overall it is nice country hotel - but for us a little expensive for what it offered - however given that it was in the middle of the summer - this was probably why they had availabilty.
• Sue (9/5): A wonderful peaceful few days. Only snag - the appalling weather! - The Ollerod is in a beautiful location - picture postcard pretty. The old building oozes charm and the room was clean and comfortable. Excellent food - really good breakfast and the dinner was superb. But best of all- the staff who were super friendly and helpful. Only one small niggle - the plug in the basin wouldn’t stay down.

• Adrian (9/5): Super comfortable place! - Nothing was too much trouble. Even managed to clean my wife's dress free of charge after she spilt coffee on it Super friendly and accommodating staff. Need to book dinner well in advance as restaurant very popular with locals
• John (9/5): Ticked all the boxes - Good atmosphere. Busy but not noisy. Plenty of staff. Breakfast very good. Parking tight at times but always found space.
