Guest Reviews
- alex freelander (6/5): -
- Pedro (2/5): - Room was horrible, no a/c no towels ( we have one upon arrival) that was dirty and wet probably from previous guest. No bath soap, beds in bed shape, old linens, we keep asking for a couple of bath towels all day and we received only one with holes on it. Bathroom door busted with damaged lock, no elevator ( we stayed on 3 floor) so we dragged our luggage all the way up. They change the cost of the room at the last minute.(we end up paying per bed) HORRIBLE!!!
- Andras (8/5): Clever choice in hidden port - Brilliant location with wonderful hosts with a bit oldish furniture but great value with swimming pool and nice roof terrace. Free use of fridge and i brought a water kettle for coffee etc. There are extension constructions that makes a bit difficult to access pool but the kindness of hosts compensate all
- Natasja (7/5): Fine for the price - The place fits the price. Cheap with the necessary amenities and that's it. It was necessary with a fan in the room.
It's close to the beach and bus terminal, which is convenient and nice. It was awfully hot during the evening and night, why we had to keep the fan on max and even that wasn't really enough. There was a bit of weird noises in the room, why we couldn't know if it was some kind of animal wanting to enter our room.
The shower kept dripping and couldn't be turned all the way off, which was annoying.
We had to check out at 6 am, where we couldn't find anyone at the reception. We left the key and tried to get out of the front door, which was locked and we got a bit stressed (we needed to be somewhere). Luckily after a few minuts the receptionist came and locked us out. Good to keep in mind, should you need an early check-out.
The area/alley around the hotel had a handful of homeless sleeping in the streets, why it didn't feel too safe to go alone when it got dark.
- Charlene (5/5): Much better options available - Location. Close to Playa Principal. Stayed here 3 years ago and enjoyed it. It has gone downhill. All the people who were full time residents have moved & for good reason. Kitchen was filthy & you now have to PAY to use it. Pool was in horrible condition. NO one speaks English which doesn’t bother me, but your site says English & Spanish spoken. Upon arrival rude staff who didn’t show me where anything was. What a difference in 3 years.
I moved to another place way cheaper with my own kitchen.
- Norma (8/5): Very good -
- Maria (7/5): Good -
- George (4/5): Disinterested staff Private room would be ok - Great location and the pool is a great addition The washrooms for the hostel side of the building were usually dirty The shared kitchen is poorly equipped. Staying on the hostel side not recommended. Used to be well run yrs ago
- Alma (8/5): Very good -
- Henry (10/5): Can I move in here permanently ? :) - Hey you, Yes you reading this, Just book the place :)
It is perfect for EVERYTHING I have nothing bad to say about this place
- Alberto (6/5): Pleasant - Beach very near and groceries store Wifi and tv signal awful.
Pool was not in good shape
Photos and location does not mach
- Sitlalit (6/5): It was ok for the price. Only great thing is it’s close to the beach and to little shopping areas. - Close to the beach Surroundings were not the cleanest. Too much trash around the building.
- Omar (5/5): Passable -
- Hervé (7/5): Good - Good location close to the main beach.
Thanks to Ricardo at the reception, very friendly and knowledgeable.
Bathroom was decent.
Nice view and chill area at the top of the stairs. A shower mat would be a good idea, it can get slippery in the bathroom.
No shutters - be prepared to be awaken by the daylight.
- Alejandro (7/5): Location and price are great but bathroom was bad and no ac in the room - Location No air conditioned and bathroom was smelly
- Cesare (10/5): buena onda - the vibes nothing absolutely nothing
- SergeADELC (8/5): Great location for Puerto Escondido right in the "adoquín"!! - Pros. Great location, you can walk to a lot of places from here, supermarket, the main beaches, the restaurants, the bank (ATM), the bus stations, the main road, etc., right in "the adoquín" the absolute center of P. Escondido. They recently built a pool right in the property so you can chill out with your friends. They also have a pool table, very good Internet signal and a kitchen if you need to prepare some meals. The service delivered by the staff is superb, very well recommended property.
Cons · There were some "blackouts" during my stay but I think those were in general in the P. Escondido area, maybe having their own small "backup" for this kind of emergencies would be a good idea.
- Roman (7/5): Good - Quite, close to the beach and downtown.
Pool and kitchen. Beer and coffee.
The view from the top floor. Although the seemed to do excessive cleaning some surfaces were overlooked - garbage, towels and coins from previous occupants were left behind.
- Jose (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect Location No A/C
- Denise (9/5): Budgwt friendly stay, definitely will book again. - The location was perfect. The toilet was not very clean. However, Chadraui was close by and I bought Clorox to clean the bathroom.
- Ania (7/5): Good -
- Nathan (1/5): Very poor y malo - It WAS cheap but they raised the price while I was there lol. Still wasn't worth it. 1) In the minute I went to brush my teeth someone picked my charging phone up and put a scratch on the camera lens.
2) No outlets by beds, only by the door our outside. Makes tampering with your things easy.
3) Water regularly didn't work. A daily issue including showers and kitchen.
3) No sheet or blanket, just cover for mattress. Very bad mosquitos so you had to sleep in your clothing to avoid getting eaten at night.
4) One of the guys working was on drugs when I checked in. Asked me how much I paid after I gave him money.
5) Not a very social crowd. All local guests and mostly men just crashing for the night after work.
- Roseline (5/5): Passable -
- Serge (9/5): Great location for Puerto Escondido - Great location, you can walk to a lot of places from here, supermarket, the main beaches, the restaurants, the bank (ATM), the bus stations, the main road, etc., right in "the adoquín" the absolute center of P. - Ivan (7/5): Good -
- Henry (9/5): Ideal place to stay for a trip to Puerto - The staff were super. A little loud because of the neighboring area
- Cynthia (6/5): fair but not good - great staff not clean enough
no hot water
no wifi
- Maxwell (10/5): Thank you Chemo and Oscar! - Location - close to the main road, and not too far from Zicatela or other beautiful beaches like Carrizalillo.
Facilities - great pool.
Room - good value for money.
Staff - Chemo and Oscar are amazing! They made our stay incredible. So nice and accommodating.
- Lauren (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dominica (5/5): I was fissPointed in no kitchen and no t.v in the room I stayed in - No breakfast no use of good kitchen dirty burnt frying pan and food left over I expected a working t.v there was no good t.v working, the hotel.changed owners and problems had not been resolved keys not working broken glass windows covered with cloth no real shower spray very weak.I changed rooms S the rm I wS put in was with a broken window that could have been entered.Front door wide open often unattended.poor security.staff very nice but would have preferred A safe place many windows do not open.Obed is a good man but the task requires work and some time.
- Mariska (7/5): Good - The location was perfect. The staff was friendly.
The room was big and had a nice balcony. The room was a bit dirty and had a lot of dust. Under the bed it looked like it has not been cleaned for months.
- Samson (1/5): They didn't have enough rooms for their reservations. - The location is close to the Adoquin, and the staff was very nice. The hostel over booked and when i came to check in, even though I had a reservation they didn't have room for me. They did eventually find a bed for me, but i gave it to a young girl who was behind me who also had a reservation but the hotel said they couldn't find a bed for her. They also tried to charge me more than what the reservation said it would be.
- Derek (1/5): Not worth the price. Poor management. Go elsewhere - Walking distance to some nearby restaurants. Didn’t expect much given previous reviews but this place was horrible. It’s like they aren’t even trying. Mattresses scattered around room with no bed sheets, not even a thin sheet to cover your body. Cockroaches running around room. Shared bathrooms super dirty, no toilet paper. I didn’t see anyone working or cleaning, just a guy collecting money at the front. Seems more like a prison cell operation. I left the next day and went somewhere else. Sad because property has potential but poor management.
- toni (2/5): - Nada
- Gabriele (1/5): Bad -
- Maria (3/5): I highly do not recommend staying here! - I like that it wasn’t a popular hostel to stay at so I was the only one in my dorm for 3 nights out of the 5. The fridge didn’t work and the kitchen was a bit messy. The water always ran out by the end of the day or there was no drinking water that day. I paid on booking through PayPal and they told me they never got the money. I had to pay them AGAIN with cash. Also booking isn’t very helpful even though I reported them that issue.
- John (6/5): Pleasant -
- Jonathon (1/5): Horrible, was the stay. - i did not like anything about this property. tThe refused to accept the fact that the reservation was paid for and after I left my parents there. they made them pay, again.
very dishonest and unorganized people.
- SeanandMichelle (10/5): Outstanding Service - Everyone at Hotel Mayflower, especially Hector (an owner), made me feel very welcomed during my week-long stay. Hector took at least an hour of his time to help me successfully connect with my phone service provider! He talks with his guests and even receives hugs from some return guests. The staff provides service in Spanish and English. The location of Hotel Mayflower is central to many of the vendors, restaurants and beaches.
- david93isme (10/5): Best place to stay in Puerto Escondito - The staff are so friendly and helpful. They can speak English and can give you helpful information about the area. It's both a hostel and a hotel. I stayed in the hostel. It's clean and tidy and with decent beds and bathrooms. Good kitchen and common areas. The breakfast is nice too.
- S7363MEdavidr (8/5): A BIT OF EVERYTHING - my 4th stay at mayflower. once again, i planned a weeks stay, and ended up staying 6 weeks. very good location; near beach, fishermans landing, supermarket, town, zicatela, rinconada. can be noisy at night, especially on weekends. new owners hector and mariana will go way out to help you. the kitchen is large, fun and well-equipped with pots pans dishes and fridge; you get to meet people from all over the world. with a few exceptions, i found the guests at the mayflower to be very interesting people. PUERTO IS AN EXCELLENT PLACE TO CHILL AFTER DOING SOME HIGHLANDS TRAVELLING. THERE'S JUST ENOUGH TO DO TO KEEP YOU STIMULATED, BUT NOT ENOUGH TO GET YOU STRESSED. the afternoon/evening bird/boat trip to manialtepec with bioluminescence (pick a moonless night) highly recommended.
- S7363MEdavidr (10/5): new owners/managers. 3 days turned into 3 weeks! - I really enjoyed this hotel. price was fine, breakfast included (at a very pleasant nearby restaurant in front of beach). free coffee all day. room was large and airy with good wifi, ceiling fan and terrace overlooking the ocean. there are also hostel style rooms, rooms with shared bath, and no breakfast rooms if desired. nice mix of guests; young, older, foreign and mexican. there is a huge full kitchen w/fridge, and a supermarket close by. kitchen has a large dining table; good place to socialize. there is a billiards room. many restaurants within 3 minutes walk. overall location excellent- you can walk to the beach in 3 minutes, to town (5 minutes walk) or to playa carizallilo (18 minutes walk), zicatela (15 min walk). Staff spoke excellent english, were always present (owners live in hotel) and very helpful. The new owners Hector and Mariana are young, smart and relaxed, and eager to please. There was no pressure to take excursions, but they are available if desired. local travel is easy and cheap - collectivos are frequent and only 7 pesos (about 40 cents), and taxis are generally one to two dollars. my only complaint was weekend noise from a nearby club; but it was not a big problem.
- joakimt2014 (6/5): Cheap and decent - We stayed at the hostel part, so I don't know about the hotel part.
The hostel is nothing special. It's run more like a hotel when it comes to socializing and the staff interaction with the guests.
It's clean, pretty quiet and it has a pooltable. Even though it's not in its prime. There's a kitchen, but it's not very well equipped. It's like a standard hostel kitchen.
- 778chantelles (10/5): Amazing Place / Stay - Hotel Mayflower is a great place to stay in Puerto Escondido!! Right by the beach, perfect facilities in the hotel/hostel,clean but most of all hector & Marianna do their best on making your stay as perfect as it could be and they did!! They are so helpful & welcoming! Look forward to returning to Puerto Escondido and Hotel mayflower!!
- hollylyndon82 (10/5): Value for money. - This hostal is clean, comfortable and in a great location. Hector and Mariana are so welcoming and go above and beyond to make your stay the best. The rooms and facilities are clean and spaciuos, the pool table and deck is great, and the balcony at the front of the hotel is great for sipping Coronas and watching the sunset. You are also super close to the beach and restaurants. Also book your tours via Hector or Mariana. They ensure correct pricing and you wont get mucked around by going through them. We loved our stay here and would definitely stay here again!
- johnadvocate (10/5): BANG FOR YOUR BUCK - Now under new ownership, the Mayflower Hotel and Hostel is an oasis of warmth , ambience, and hospitality. Hector and Marianna, the new owners, are welcoming and attentive to any need or request you may have as a guest. The view is spectacular, and rooms large and impeccably clean, old Mexican charm with all the modern amenities. As a seasoned traveler, I would ernestly recommend this establishment to anyonelooking for Bang for their Buck..
- 86mineag (10/5): Friendly Staff thanks Hector - Excellent service!veryclean rooms&bathrooms,Lg equipped kitchen,steps from beach &shops,2 blocks from bus station&grocery store, pooltable,piano,oceanview terrace,for $2 more u get full breakfast onthe beach
- liorl2016 (10/5): Awesome hostel! - The owners changed one week ago (8/16).
We had great time and great price! The couple who own the place were amazing! Decently cheap and worth every peso. Close to the beach, cheap, great atmosphere. What else do you need?
- ricardolT9511YH (8/5): Great Location Hotel - This Hotel is located one block from the tourist strip, and two blocks from the main beach called Playa Principal. Nicely decorated with bright colors and a friendly staff clean rooms no hot water, but you dont need it its warm enough.
- alisoncona (10/5): Great stay! - Even though there are hundreds of hotels in the bay area of Puerto Escondido, I never felt the need to check any of the other ones out. The mayflower is walking distance from the main beach has everything you might need close by and has helpful warm staff. If you feel like staying in, you can curl up with a book ok one of the beautiful terraces or get a match of pool going with friends or other guests. I would definitely come back.
- mohammadn803 (8/5): Nice staying!! - Stayed there just for one night!! Nice hostel with agood kitchen! Very close to the beach! The staff were friendly!! The beds comfortable and the dorms and toilets were clean!! There is agood chill area on the roof with apool table!!
Good location!!
- T9052GGmichaelh (10/5): Stay in Puerto Escondido at the Mayflower - Wonderful experience. Friendly staff and enjoyable guests. Extremely close proximity to main beach and souvenir shopping. I would highly recommend a stay here of any length. The host is most enjoyable with her many stories from over the years.
A surfer's paradise.
- Elledm1 (8/5): Nice private rooms with good bathrooms, overall good value for the price - We had a private room with a balcony and partial sea view - really lovely although it's a shame there's no window, just the balcony door, so you can't see the view from inside the room. There's a window facing the internal walkway but you need to keep those curtains closed for privacy so not much natural light. Great to have a clothes rail and hanging space.
Bathroom was clean enough and the shower was hot with good water pressure.
Really nice communal terrace (although the atmosphere was a bit subdued, even over new year) and well located close to the beach. Would have been nice if breakfast was included but there's a good sized kitchen to cook in.
We were just about ok without air con at night as there was a decent enough ceiling fan. Bed was comfy. Overall good for the price.
If you're staying in dorms, try to avoid the one on the terrace which apparently was unbearably hot at night (it just has a tin roof which probably doesn't help).
- jenniferdK1555CM (10/5): Wonderfully chill and affordable hotel/hostal - Arrived from bus station and just had to walk down the first hill to find the Mayflower waiting for you 2 blocks before the beach! The balconies and terraces have beach views as well and the rooms are comfortable, clean with fan and lockers to store valuable items. I stayed here twice and the owner Minnie really helped to advise me on getting to Guatemala and back to renew my visa! I enjoyed two of the dorm rooms and even though he place was busy with travellers I had the dorm rooms to myself and the facilities were always available for use:) Dinner must be cooked before 10pm so plan meals accordingly. There are multiple floors and areas to relax, eat, connect to internet, play pool or chill with other travellers! The kitchen is large and well equipped with all the cooking stuff you'd need and two large fridges, dry food space and plenty of kitchen essentials spices and stuff left by other travellers! There's an industrial gas stove to cook on the fish is sold down the street on playa principal at 7am:) There's two bathrooms available for the dorm rooms that are clean, good sized, tiled and I got cold water only but was okay with it as puerto is hot! Internet is reliable and can be found in most rooms and if not then there are three modems in public spaces so depending on area you can go into different lines. I will totally come back here and recommend this beautiful place of birds, good people and chill space to all travellers to puerto!
- Sherlar (6/5): Great Location - As many have said this hotel is in a great location close to the beach (2minutes) and shopping. The staff are friendly and helpful. A community kitchen for cooking is well stocked and a great place to meet other travellers. I recommend you buy your food daily as items do go missing from the fridge from time to time. The lockers for the hostel guests were broken into one night and one traveller had 5000 peso stolen which put a real damper on her vacation. Rumor had it that the relief night watchman was the culprit (not confirmed) so keep your valuables close at hand. A short walk to the otherside of Highway 200 will put in the heart of Escondido with authentic street food and shops where you can spend an enjoyable evening with the locals. The kareokee bar neraby is loud and runs until 5am most nights so if a good nights sleep is important this should be considered. A must see is Carrazilillo Beach which is a short 15 minute walk from town. Take the 169 steps down to the beach and enjoy the peace and quiet this beach has to offers. Overall this is a well kept hotel for $27cdn a night.
- 791carloa (8/5): good place to stay in puerto escondido - Well managed, Good Kitchen, Safe, Clean, Cheap...
I stayed for much longer than I planned. Puerto Escondido is a nice place to visit. The Mayflower has a great location with several beaches in easy walking distance. The kitchen is big and has everything I needed. Safety and security are good, the staff keeps the property clean and are pleasant and helpful. Also really close to the bus station and the super market.
Over all the mayflower was the best choice and I saved a lot of money and relaxed with peaceful enjoyment. Additionally, I met a lot of nice people who care about the things I listed and picked the Mayflower for the same reasons.
- B_A_Purcell (10/5): Another Great Stay - This was my third time to stay at the Mayflower. Each stay has been fantastic and I can't wait to return. The hotel is in an excellent location, 1 block from the beach and also close to shopping, restaurants and transportation. The staff is friendly, helpful and accommodating. The property is always clean. There are nice common areas as well as a kitchen should you decide to cook for yourself.
The hotel does not have secured parking for cars but on two of my trips I was on my motorcycle and they allowed me to park it in a small secured area on the roof that is street level behind the hotel. Just one example of their wonderful service.
