- R705PDemmap (10/5): Another great stay! - We had another night stay at The Haughmond and it was just as good as the first time! As a fan of lovely, small peaceful inn’s this fits the bill! The dinner was once again in the evening delicious- cooked to perfection! The red room was very comfortable and large in size with a nice big bath to relax in and lovely views. The breakfast the next day was plentiful and beautiful! The staff all lovely and friendly, particularly impressed with Mike! He’s an asset to the place! We will return again soon!
- B1042HWclivew (10/5): Pleasant surprise five stars - So this was one of the time you just go online to find a place we were meeting friends in Shrewsbury for the weekend but all hotels had very small or on street parking so no good for us as we drive a large car, So came across the Haughmond big car park and looked nice we live in hope, We turn up and what a pleasant surprise it was lovely friendly staff and a lovely big room great bar and the food was the star up there with the best restaurants in the south were we come from, SoI highly recommend this place and a big thank you to the staff who looked after us.

- NikiV293 (10/5): Perfect! - Stayed for a long weekend with 2 dogs in The Barn. Its a really lovely location with fields next door for walking the dogs. The Barn itself is airy and spacious. All 3 bedrooms are large with really 'chunky' duvets that add to a cosy nights sleep. All linens are crisp and have that high quality feel. The cafe (which is less than a stones throw) serve excellent coffee and amazing cake. Staff at the pub and cafe are friendly and really accommodating. We emailed before just to check where to collect keys . All you have to do is ask! Lovely stay - will definitely stay again. Thank you
- anthonycF9193RY (2/5): Hotel owners And Sykes cottages not interested in complaints. Did not address any of our problems with the 3 bed apartment. - Check in time 4pm. Arrived to find hotel closed and shop closed. Collect keys from hotel? Closed? Opened door to cottage, key inside. Welcome pack as advertised not there. Was going to eat in the restaurant but closed after driving for 3hrs had to then go out again to eat. Next morning went to ask in the shop what was going on. Shop said have to see hotel manager who was due in later in the afternoon. She did not appear until the next day. During this time we realised that the place was filthy even down to the freezer having a full drawer of ice defrosted and frozen again. Complimentary breakfast or afternoon tea was also advertised. Guess what did not happen. Manager stated that this was supposed to be removed from the advert with Sykes along with the welcome pack. Sykes fault. Chipped chairs, dumped furniture including a piano, dirty furniture, filthy air frier and pans. Toilet away from wall. Skirting boards not fitting. Finally internet being updated but would only be down for 20mins. Alas that turned out to be 24hrs. Left a day early. Received refund of one day. Just not good enough
- Rossergruffydd (10/5): Great Location, Friendly Staff and High Quality Food at a Price - An impressive building in a very quiet location. Plenty of car parking. Lots of outdoor seating and little cubicles set around the Wisteria dominated lawn, picturesque. Our room was fine, nothing special, with a good view of the gardens. Staff were very friendly and approachable. The evening meal menu is very 'foody' and two courses with beer and two liquers cost as much as the room. Excellent breakfast with cereal replaced by a piece of cake and a yogurt with fruit. Good coffee and main couse with toast provided. The village shop and coffee house is run by the hotel, delightful. They have a couple of rooms attached to the coffee house set out for dog owners.

We stayed in the Boris room, which was not only comfortable but equipped with all the amenities needed for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. The bed was incredibly cozy, and the room was spotless and well-maintained. Breakfast was a definite highlight – 10 out of 10! The meal was delicious and left us wishing we had the time to try their evening menu. The service was friendly and efficient, adding to the overall positive experience. - JoRidley (10/5): Absolute gem of a place - This weekend, my friends and I visited The Haughmond Inn, nestled in the picturesque village of Upton Magna. From start to finish, our stay was exceptional. The Inn’s philosophy is straightforward: warm, friendly, and relaxed service paired with delicious, fuss-free dishes bursting with flavor, all at outstanding value. They also offer the chance to unwind in one of their luxurious rooms and indulge in both dinner and a highly praised breakfast. Did they deliver? Absolutely! We received a warm welcome upon arrival. We stayed in the Red room, which offered peaceful views of The Wrekin, while our friends stayed in the Fallow room. The staff were attentive and friendly, and the service and food at both dinner and breakfast were excellent. Would we recommend The Haughmond Inn? Without a doubt. Would we return? In a heartbeat. Thank you for a truly relaxing stay—we loved every moment.
- 871ChrisD (10/5): Great place to stay - Very welcoming, comfortable, peaceful and good value. Good attention to detail, thoughtfully placed storage,plenty of tea and coffee, water, etc. We arrived earlier than advertised check-in, and the room was available for occupation. We had the 'Boris' room, which is an annexe across the courtyard from the main pub. Lunch was unfortunately not available due to technical issues, but we were guided to the 'village shop' right next door where a nice light lunch was available. We had arranged to eat out with work colleagues, but on returning to the Haughmond later, were tempted by a couple of starters as supper. Fantastic, innovative cuisine, not your normal run of the mill hotel fare. Breakfast was a revelation, we were taken to a table reserved for our room, where a wee platter consisting of continental cheese and ham, fruit compote, granola and a pastel de nata each was waiting. And followed by a choice of cooked offerings, including both full and 'half' English (half being the same as full, but one of each item, much better for a normal appetite). Other cooked options available. Certainly The Haughmond is on our 'approved' list for a return visit.
- Curious45775005370 (10/5): A welcoming stay at the Haughmond - We had a lovely stay at the Haughmond thanks to the manager Mel who went out of her way to organise the rooms so we could have an extra bed in our room for our daughter. The room was lovely and peaceful, very clean and decorated to a high standard. The food was excellent both at breakfast and for our evening meal and the bar was stocked with local ale on tap. The Haughmond is in a lovely countryside location hosted by a wonderful team of people! Thoroughly recommend. Thanks Mel from Tom, Sarah and Katie x

We stayed in the Red Room which was stunning! The food (dinner & breakfast) was exceptional and the service from The Haughmond team was second to none. Highly recommend.

Good sized room with a lovely view over the hills in the distance, even a fan to cool us down on arrival (there was some in early July!) The breakfast and the restaurant did not disappoint. One of our favourites.

Stunningly beautiful balance, textures and flavours. A real must visit as it is different class food wise. The cauliflower with Israeli couscous - un believable and the sole for main - just perfect.

Enjoyed the a la carte menu ( I recommend the sole) and decent wine choice, following drinks in the garden. Breakfast also excellent. Staff turnover seems low implying a well-managed establishment
- 226PaulM226 (10/5): A superb place to stay - We stayed for three nights at the Haughmond in the Red Room, which has great views across fields, leading to wooded hills in the distance. The room is large and has comfortable chairs where you can sit and take in the view through the enormous window. The bed is huge and the mattress extremely comfortable - we slept well every night. There are some thoughtful extras every day (freshly made biscuits, fresh water). The en suite bathroom is modern, well laid out and comes with a large bath. Breakfast comes with a good range of options from porridge through to a Full English, with a range of omelettes, eggs bennedict and scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. A minor criticism here is what seems to be heavy use of a microwave on some items leading to mouth scarring temperatures (and, if you’re going to offer black pudding, make it quality and cook it properly). Those minor issues aside, the breakfasts here are every bit as good as you would expect from a highly rated restaurant - and the inclusion of a ‘starter board’ every morning (including a pastel de nata alongside the best granola I’ve ever tasted) is frankly inspired! The downstairs lounge area and gardens are relaxed and offer beautiful spaces to spend time and there are a range of local walks (including the Shropshire Way and Severn Way), as well as a range of footpaths - walking to Shrewsbury via Haughmond Hill is a lovely way to spend an afternoon. I’d recommend and definitely hope to return.

- Neworder306 (10/5): I did not like the Gnocchi !! - Tuesday night in Feb can be dreary and leave you short for choice. We tried the Haughmond now they have reverted to a sensible menu (thanks Haughmond) Having said that it is a very short menu, usually a good sign in my mind, no chest freezers full option 50 defrost options! Meet and great very nice, table was good, service was good (very good in fact, well drilled young team and added to the enjoyment). Nice bread served at the table, starters were very tasty, you can view the short menu to see what these were, mains were, well once was devoured and other I ate but had a real issue with the texture of the Gnocchi - just me others may love it but no, not a fan. We swerved sweets as pretty stuffed but they gave us a small plate of Petit Fours which were very nice. Some very nice touches as well, we were celebrating a special occasion and the team made it what is what, a lovely Tuesday night in Feb. Very nice atmosphere as well and pretty good value (great value in fact!) . We will be back soon.....did mention I did not like the Gnocchi !!

The service was a very high standard , the staff, although busy kept our glasses full and were very informative about both the wine and the food. As a business owner myself I understand how hard you must work to maintain such high standards. I highly recommend The Haughmand to any who wish to try. Hopefully see you all again soon.
- R1388QXjanr (4/5): Second time around disappointment - This was the second year i had booked for a lunchtime meal having met my sister and brother-in-law twixmas last year. The booking was for 4 people. How different it was this year, the starters were great but the mains, not the quality we expected. I had chicken and I could not get my knife through the parsnips on top of it, my partner had cod and parts of it appeared uncooked and chewy. We then waited for nearly 15 minutes for someone to clear the table and it was only done after i got up to go to the bar to ask. Finally we were looking forward to some fabulous puddings as we had them last year but this year...only 2 to choose from and both of them were so 'fancy' none of us wanted them. As an alternative we asked if we could have vanilla ice cream but without a blink of an eye the waitress said no sorry you cant. No, ice cream in a restaurant of this standard?? We ordered Coffee and Mince Pies at an extra £5 (£20 in total) and even the mince pies were not the size of a 50p. Then we asked for the bill (another 10 minute wait) until i got up to the bar to chase again. I dont normally leave these reviews but it was just so different from last year we were just so disappointed not just with the food but with the service as well. Felt like it was young people running it with no eye on the detail (we watched them chatting behind the bar whilst we waited for our bill.
- Amanda636 (10/5): We will be back - We stayed overnight and were grateful for upgraded rooms which were warm, comfortable and had good linen and towels. We were treating family who live near by to the 6 course tasting menu - all of which was delicious and served by enthusiastic staff. We had great and well priced wine and the atmosphere in the restaurant was lively and positive. Good nights sleep was followed by a delicious breakfast served by the FAB Stephanie - I wanted to take her home. This is a smart country pub/restaurant with rooms and we LOVED it. Only one small criticism, we had a long (5 hour) drive down in heavy traffic from London and when we arrived we couldn't get anything to eat, not even a piece of cake or slice of toast to go with our pot of tea. Fortunately, when we checked into our rooms there were some local mini biscuits..........
- 2P46 (4/5): Good breakfast shame about the room - The breakfast was very good and served by attentive staff but the room......We stayed in a room designed for people with dogs and if we had had a dog with us it would have been fine. It is in a barn next to the car park and is small and dark. There is a huge mural of the owner's dearly departed dog above the bed. We miss our dog very much too but a massive mural in a hotel room? No. The hotel might want to rethink the name of the room too: The Boris room. Oh dear.

- I1209ZLpaulj (10/5): Probably Shropshire’s best restaurant - We Booked the 6 course tasting menu with wine pairing. Ambience in the restaurant is superb. A curious mix of old England finery yet low key and relaxing. Our little dogs were welcome, which is unusual in a fine dining establishment. Some people may not like this but hey ho, that’s their loss. We were welcomed by a charming and well trained staff who were very friendly and proceeded to talk us through the menu and wines. Each course was served with a superb description of the food and the paired wine. The staff were very knowledgable and, unlike many fine dining restaurants, were very friendly and relaxed and genuinely seem to enjoy their work. Food included a wonderful selection of meat and fish options. As a former hater of beef tartare I was pleasantly surprised to find the Haughmond have created their own version which has completely transformed my opinion of this dish, hints of capers and peppers making this dish a must. Lobster with raspberry followed by smoked coronation chicken, all Paired with a superb selection of old and new world wines. The 2 dessert dishes perfectly complemented the night as did the extra glass of wine I forced myself to suffer with the additional cheese course. Yes it was a night I didn’t want to end. Thankfully I only had a short stagger to the bedroom we had booked for the night. A stunning room above the restaurant while my daughter and husband looked after the canine crew in the dog friendly rooms in the annexe. Breakfast was a continuation of the excellence. All the classics offered and Portuguese Custard Tarts! If Carlsberg did breakfast!! A whole new staff but the same wonderful friendly service. Looking forward to our next visit. This is a must for foodies and is great value for money. If you like a kilo of chips and a meat pie for a fiver, don’t go. If you like great quality food without the snobbery, cooked with passion and served by great people then please give it a try.
- Glenn (8/5): Nice place to stay - Nice place to stay here if visiting Shrewsbury area. Food good at Breakfast, although became nervous when waitress was leaning across you to serve orange juice, this could have been avoided with small decanted bottles put on tables to use if required. Breakfast not a relaxing experience when the waitress who was very friendly was rushing around puffing and panting as she passed very close to our table repeatedly as we were next to the kitchen entrance. Would stay there again when epidemic is over, as would like to try restaurant menu!
- Lorna (8/5): Lovely spot! - Fabulous spot! Lovely staff, delicious food and wine, great room! A little noisy with road traffic from the A5 at night, but still worth a trip here. Our shower spurted all over the floor which was annoying... having said that we’d still return which says a lot.

Staff and management were very friendly and obviously loved their 'Modern Coaching Inn' Whilst we didn't have any serious complaints, I would suggest when serving a delightful cheese board, a very hot carrot chutney is not a good accompaniment since all the cheeses tasted the same after a blast of chilli!

The room said there was Netflix but we couldn't find it on the tv and if it was there ,it was certainly hard to locate 🤔. Great power shower. Comfy bed. As an old property be careful not to bump your head! There was a step from the bedroom to the bathroom. Our only disappointment was that the mattresses were not very comfortable.

Was disappointed to find at breakfast that they had run out of orange juice ?? - surely a staple product for any pub, especially for one servicing breakfast ???. Breakfast stated on menu that scrambled egg on white or brown toast but arrived with no toast so got cold whilst cooking own toast. What started as efficient service during evening meal seemed to drop off off and we were kept waiting for desert menu and had to remind staff that we were still waiting to see and order a desert.

- Verified traveler (8/5): - Very helpful friendly staff. Immaculately clean. Room was booked as a family room but was a little small as instead of a single bed and king size bed as advertised we had a king bed and just a very hard camp bed.

- KS (10/5): - The property was tucked away in beautiful countryside. I had a lovely room with a view. Stay was perfect. Only thing was when I ate at a restaurant since I am vegetarian there weren’t much choices- only one appetizer and one main course. The main course didn’t appeal to me so I asked if they can’t make the appetizer into bigger portion and serve as main course. My waiter siad they can’t cause they won’t have any left for other guest. Really? That was the only flaw I found. Other than that everything was great.
- Dean (10/5): Fantastic spot to explore rural Shropshire from. - A lovely getaway for myself and my wife. A nice hotel in a lovely quiet setting. Far enough outside Shrewsbury to be rural yet close enough to get in very quickly. Lovely room with a comfortable bed although the one very small gripe is that the bedding was really thick which meant we were both really warm even with the heating turned down. A great stay was topped off with a fantastic breakfast with without doubt the best omelette I've had for a very long time!

- William (10/5): Great Country Hotel with Excellent Food - From entering the building, the service and attentiveness of the staff could not be faulted. Check in was quick and easy, I was escorted to room which was comfortable, clean and of a good standard. Stayed for dinner which was a la carte or taster menu. Prices were on the high side but must say that the food was excellent. The serving staff had very detailed knowledge of the cuisine and explained how the dishes were made up with great enthusiasm. The hotel also had a great wine list with several wines served by the glass. Breakfast was freshly made and of good quality. Will definitely use this hotel again when I am next in the area.

- Robert (10/5): A most enjoyable experience - Although in the area for a family funeral our stay at the hotel was excellent. The accommodation was ideal and the house-keeping service first class. We entertained some other family members for a most enjoyable evening meal. The food was absolutely excellent and the service, both for this evening meal and for a Full English breakfast on two days was efficient and friendly.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Poor - The internet is so poor in the rooms, I had to sit in the bar to carry out my work on line. They do not serve meals on a Monday evening so I had to drive to the nearest village to find somewhere to have my evening meal.

- Jilly (10/5): - Staff were welcoming - although check in wasn’t until 4pm, the room was ready before then. This allowed me to get changed for a wedding I was attending, in the comfort of my own room rather than the downstairs toilet!! Clear instructions were given about key access if arriving back late after the function. The room was clean, comfortable & relatively quiet - I did hear some conversations downstairs & in room next door but it didn’t disturb me! Breakfast was great with a varied choice of good quality food. Excellent service on check out too!

- karen (10/5): Fabulous and friendly - From the moment we arrived and throughout our stay everything was perfect. The staff were always friendly and made us feel very welcome. We had a 4 night stay in a very comfortable and clean room. The food which is locally sourced was amazing! And superbly presented. We would definitely recommend the Haughmond to any one who wishes to have a very relaxing break in a wonderful establishment. We are planning to return very soon.
- colin (8/5): Fab but - Bed was a bit uncomfortable,springs noticeable plus not a proper double bed. Service from barman was very good and attentive,he also checked us in. Food in restaurant wad great but had to after sitting at ourtable for ten minutes had to ask for a food/wine menu

- Micheala (10/5): An absolute gem - This was a terrific find (thanks Hotels,com!) The bed was very comfortable, the staff were very friendly and the restaurant food quite stunning. This is not pub grub - this is high quality restaurant food. We ate here both nights of our stay and the second night enjoyed a 7 course tasting menu. Delicious! They even offered a wine flight with it. We have already booked another stay here. Highly reccomended.
- Gemma (10/5): Fabulous food, lovely setting - Really enjoyed staying at the Haughmond. The breakfast is wonderful- tasty, fresh ingredients and very generous portions! It's well worth booking in for lunch or dinner too. Had the three-course Sunday lunch, which was delicious. The setting is very pretty and peaceful (while only a short drive from Shrewsbury); the rooms are beautifully presented and relaxing. Hope to come back!
- Patricia (8/5): Booking forms - This is a lovely place to stay, the rooms are extremely comfortable, well furnished with a nice mix of traditional and contemporary and scrupulously clean! It was also very peaceful as there is very little passing traffic. The breakfast was amazing with lots of choice, locally sourced where possible and served with a smile! The only slight problem was the bill. There had been some confusion when booking as a change had been made to it via the hotels.com website as requested but this information had not been passed on accurately and it was presented as significantly more than expecting, however the hotel waived the additional charge but only when proof was supplied. The moral of the story is, always remember to take all paperwork with you. Despite this little hiccup I would have no hesitation recommending this hotel/coaching inn.
- Angela (10/5): Fab food and service in a small pub with rooms. - The Haughmond is located in the pretty village of Upton Magna and is surrounded by lovely countryside. The staff were all really friendly and helpful and the food was amazing. The room was comfortable but small. I’d book a bigger room with a proper window if I returned. But overall, very very good.
