Guest Reviews
- Tom (8/5): Good place for few nights, if you don’t need anything too cosy. Staff was nice. - Great location, the pool, the staff, the bed A bit dirty, salted water to drink and shower can be surprising
- pannu (7/5): - Lovely property IF YOU BOOK ONE OF THE BETTER ROOMS The room we had initially booed
- Yes Mundo (8/5): Buen lugar - Alberca y playa.
- Jonathan (10/5): Very friendly staff and excellent room. - Excellent location, staff was very friendly and willing to help with any of our needs. The room is very spacious and clean. I really enjoyed my stay. N/A
- Luciana (10/5): -
- Hannah (10/5): Exceptional staff & stay! - The staff & stay was amazing! Everyone was extremely kind - from Santiago and Jose at the beach restaurant to Eddie from the spa. We will definitely be returning.
- Paweł (2/5): - Location Salt water in the shower and swimming pool. Smell of mold in the room and constant noise from water pomp. Additionally all day construction works.
- Brenda (10/5): Hermosa estadía!! - La playa siempre limpia
- Kelly (10/5): -
- Jennifer (9/5): -
- Isadora (5/5): Too expensive for what it delivers - Hotel's beach is very good My room was outside the hotel's property, which felt unsafe. The room also sometimes had a really terrible smell coming from the sewers in the bathroom. Shower water was kinda salty. There were no heater, which might sound unecessary but it was winter and some nights 9 degrees celsius and I was freezing.
Staff was not very nice, they did not speak english very well, they didnt really help w/ anything , and I when mentioned it was my birthday on the check in I asked the guy if he reccomended me to do anything around and he just gave me a really dry "no.
Overall not worth it to stay, I suggest just get a beach access for the day
- Lorella (7/5): Discreto - Posizione in spiaggia Musica assordante fino a notte tarda
Personale poco cortese
- Mayesha (10/5): - Love this hotel. Honey the golden retriever (the hotel host) is the cherry on top! Will come back!
- Alejandro (7/5): ok - ok no habia agua caliente
- Nicholas (1/5): -
- Mimi-22 (8/5): - Good food, gorgeous beach, chill vibes Odours from septic tank, some construction noise, music a little loud next door, fressh towels please!
- Bogdan (6/5): - Beach bar and friendly staff Noise from the bar in the jungle side
- Bogdan (6/5): - Beach bar and friendly staff Noise from the bar on the jungle side rooms
- Camille (5/5): Do not stay here - Price and staff were the only good thing about this hotel Long list:
- the room smelt so bad like sewage. I believe coming from the drain. Turning on the a/c helped but didnt fully take away the smell
- shower and tap water was salty
- ZERO sound proofing at all. I can hear the neighbours conversation as if they were in our room. This might be due to the fact that the ceiling is kind of corrugated creating gaps where the ceiling and the wall meets
- to add to the no sound proof, the neighbouring store blasting music all day until about 10pm. Thankfully it was good music atleast lol
- we went to the beach area of the hotel and were told that even as guest had a minimum spend to use their beanbags/beds. This is just ridiculous, guests shouldnt have to pay for that. Other hotels do not charge their guests to use the sunbeds
- there was a pool as well but no beds or chairs around
- power from the city went out at 11am. I wasnt feeling well so i was just staying in trying to sleep but couldnt cause the room got way too hot by 12pm. We were told that if the power doesnt come back on soon they will turn on their backup generator. The power did not come back on until about 7:30pm. Either city power or generator. But thats over 8hrs of no power. The hotel should have turned the generator on within 2-3hrs of no power.
I rarely write bad reviews except when it is REAALLLY bad. And this was bad. Having to smell the sewage gas snell for 7 days... our nose did not adjust to it lol.
- Amanda (8/5): - The guy in the reception was awesome!
- HERNAN (10/5): -
- Mathew (9/5): Overall enjoyed our stay, but would have appreciated more transparency on costs to use facilities. - We really loved the intimate set up of this hotel, the beach bar provides great drinks, delicious food (the fish tacos were probably the best tacos we have ever had) and cabanas area are nicely spaced out so that you have a lovely sense of privacy and space! (Something that other beach club areas didn’t really achieve). On the first day that we arrived, we were offered a cabana at no cost / no minimum spend requirement. This was our understanding that, as guests, we have free access to all the hotels facilities. However, on another day, we were quoted $3000MXN for its use by the bar staff. When we queried the cost at reception, we were told guests pay $2000MXN with no further explanation as to why the first day we didn’t pay anything or why the bar staff were charging us another amount. What we also found interesting is that we overheard non-guests being charged 1000MXN for the cabanas..this experience was a bit disappointing, as we were really loving our stay at this accommodation until this happened.
Our feedback is that there needs to be more clarity and consistency on costs charged to guests - just be up front on costs so there is no unnecessary back and forth which creates distrust and spoils the experience.
- Sarah-Anne (2/5): Disappointing and wish I could get a refund - The massage was good The shower was cold, there was music blasting next door till 1 am every night, the wait staff at the restaurant were extremely rude and aggressive, they gave me different prices for everything
- Veronica (7/5): -
- zauly (9/5): -
Frechheit.
Kann dieses Hotel nicht weiter empfehlen
- Zapata Torres (6/5): - The staff, food prices The xtra charge for beach club,
The new jungle area is not well designed, WC and shower acces are uncomfontably tiny
- Francisco Javier (10/5): -
- Yahor (10/5): -
- Gloria (7/5): -
- Maria (7/5): Bonne localisation et bon resto - See below You will not get the best rest and sleep at this hotel u fortunately. Not well insulated. AC makes a lot of noises too. You can ear people talking from the other rooms.
For the room jungle side: just do you know, the rooms are the other side of the street so not on the beach side. Plus, the rooms face a parking so expect to hear cars going in and out constantly.
A lot of noises too from the cars circulating on the streets.
The location is great. You can walk around easy and won’t need to rent a car if you plan to stay in Tulum beach area most of your time. You have access to the private beach but they will tell you to pay a minimum cover to have access to the chairs and beds. I was really unhappy to hear that so I asked to speak the manager. She told me I can have access to the chairs if I order something from the restaurant.
They say that they are a beach club but there is no vibe and no music compared to the others beach clubs.
The staff was nice. Lucas (one of the waiter of the restaurant-bar) is super nice, a real hardworker and let me stay on a beach single bed since I was eating there. Manuel, at the front desk,
helped me out many times for my questions and also to find my way back to the airport.
- Marjo (8/5): -
- John (8/5): Good location, beach club and very friendly staff. - Beach club
- Kestan (10/5): Great location and friendly staff - Great location on the beach. The double beds were comfortable and the location is great but they could have couple of chairs in the rooms Orr outside. The staff were very friendly and service minded. The jungle rooms are container with very small toilet and bathroom. There is no where to put your clothe on hang them on the wall, not even for the towels
- Jana (7/5): It’s a bit overpriced for what you get. And with very little investment, this could be amazing! Overall, I think Tulum i - Location, Beach, Food and Staff- amazing! Great water pressure and super clean and comfortable beds! Construction next door will take (from the looks of it) at least another year. Starts early because of the heat! The rooms could be amazing with just a few tweaks- not sure the owner cares enough. They used old shipping containers and I love it- but there are larger caps (5-12”) walls and ceiling. Either hang mosquito net over the beds or provide coils to prevent them from getting in. There should be a light over the sink! If you someone who shaves or applies make up- you need your phone flashlight! Our toilet and shower were separate (I like that) but the toilet itself has a curtain to the room and the ceiling is open to the room. It was ok for us but be aware if that’s not enough privacy. The sink cabinet is about 12-16” from the curtain to the shower and not attached to the wall, it’s a bit tricky to scoot by sideways and not bump the cabinet- if you do, things on it will fall. There is one hook in the whole room… it was tough to dry bathing suit and shower towels.. there is no place to set or hang your toiletries. The outlet on my side of the bed was just a cover but no outlet behind it…

- Maria (1/5): - Most staff were lovely. Great value for money if there was no construction noise going on I arrived at this property on Saturday and there was loud construction noises from the property next door. The hotel told me there would not be construction on Sunday so I prepaid for 3 nights and stayed. However I was woken early Sunday morning by construction noises that lasted until I left. Additionally the manager didn't believe me and I had to walk with her to the site to prove it was coming from the site next door. I wanted to move hotels but she wouldn't give me a refund on the remaining nights as "I was given options" before I checked in (the option she gave me was to get a free cancellation and move - or stay, with a promise that there would be no construction the next day). I was given a false promise of a peaceful morning on Sunday and when I wanted to leave because this was untrue the manager not only disbelieved me - she kept interrupting me and speaking over me. Additionally I had to pay a taxi to move hotels and to pay extra for a new hotel on short notice.
Additionally although it promises yoga without additional charge, yoga is charged
- LUCIA (3/5): Para no volver - Buena ubicación.
- Brenda (10/5): Absolutely perfect 🤩 - Everything was absolutely perfect I liked everything
- Sebastian (1/5): Would never go again. - Location at the beach is nice but the staff had given up cleaning the beach as there was too much sargassum. The water in the pool was green and dirty only half full nd out of order.
Staff kept promising that the pool could be used again the next day but it could not.
We wanted to cancel the rest of our stay and get a refund but the hotel rejected any reasonable compromise.

- Adam (10/5): Room with a view. - Great hotel on the sea. Amazing when the raccoons came to visit for dinner, highlight of the day!
- Baxtyr (10/5): Exceptional -
- Damien (10/5): - It has all the amenities and beach access of a larger resort with a small resort atmosphere.the service was great the staff was friendly and attentive and it was near a convenience store for basic essentials although a larger resort has more socializing you get direct beach access, music, and service and the pool was very clean.Everything youd expect in a tulum resort...rooms were very comfy however it needed a litle more comfortable seating for those that enjoy breaks from playa indoors..
- Okoro (10/5): Exceptional - Literally right on that beach!
- Ismael (7/5): Affordable beach front stay in Tulum - Great location, friendly staff, beach front Not very clean, Poseidon room is very noisy since it’s next to the road so you will listen to trucks early in the morning.
- Astrid (8/5): Nice hotel - The location, and the rooms were pretty They didn’t have hot water in the shower, I don’t know if it was just our room, but in the 3 nights no hot water
- Josiah (10/5): - The rooms were nice and clean. Everyday there was fresh water after room cleaning. We came at a bad time so the beach was nasty. The sink and shower water are salty so be careful with that. The staff was great the pool was nice and it was a good stay overall
- Veronique (7/5): Overall disappointing stay - Very comfy bed and well-decorated room; quiet room and location Cold water in the shower in the morning; poor service at restaurant; extra payment for parking
- Claudio (7/5): Good - The room was plenty and nicely decorated. My first impression was that this room looks fancy. There was not enogh space to place my belongings. In comparison with other basic hotels, this one does not have the same facilities as other hotels, such as a wardrobe.
- Julien (8/5): Great for a relaxing stay - Great location with plenty of food options, bars, shops and taxis. Direct access to the beach, quiet and relaxing spot that I highly recommend to travelers who want to stay away from big crowds and look for a more simplistic place. Staff was very respectful of our space and present when we needed them. Shower was not hot enough, not much space to store personal belongings although we had a junior suite. We wished breakfast started earlier (we couldn’t really get anything before 10am) and service tends to be slow.
- Nicole (8/5): Great Stay Right on the Beach - Nice place, located directly on the beach. We had free access to the beach club, which was a great bonus. The food was delicious—slightly overpriced, but that’s pretty standard for Tulum.
It’s recommended to have a car, as the hotel is near the end of the main road, past the party area. That said, the location was peaceful and quiet, which we really appreciated.
Loved that it’s pet-friendly! Just note that there is an additional fee for pets The room was okay, but it was located on the other side of the road from the beach. The bathroom didn’t have a door and felt more like a container setup. It was manageable for a short stay, but not ideal for a longer visit.
- Lindsey (10/5): Exceptional - location, small hotel, beach, rooms interesting design , lovely beds on the beach and nice beach service, music nice I liked everything
- Victor (10/5): - loved it
- Srimanth (4/5): Pricey hotel for nothing! Total letdown. - The hotel has some amazing beach front cabanas that you can relax in. Bar and Restaurant opens at 09:30. Who serves breakfast at 09:30? And the bar closes at 5:30 in the evening. The water in the bathroom is very salty which makes having a shower a horrible experience. Brushing your teeth with salt water was also bad. There are no amenities in the room for any tea or coffee. No kettle as well. The food from the bar and restuarnt was mediocre at best.
- marcos (4/5): Unfortunately, My 1st Negative Review ever !! - I normally understand when things go wrong and I’m quick to accept apologies, but this experience left me no choice — this is my first-ever negative review.
We stayed for 6 nights and had multiple issues. The oceanfront infinity pool — one of the main reasons we booked — was out of order the entire time. Every day, the manager said, “It will be ready tomorrow,” but it never was. Same excuse for five days.
To make things worse, the room next to ours was being renovated. Every morning at 9am, we were woken by loud drilling and hammering. It was impossible to rest.
After reporting our concerns and trying to move to another hotel, the manager apologized and offered free breakfast and a 10% refund, which I accepted. That was four weeks ago. Despite following up almost daily, I still haven’t received the refund — just the same vague reply: “The owner will do the refund soon.”
Worth to mentioned, the manager’s Golden Retriever (a sweet dog) was constantly walking through chairs, umbrellas, and breakfast tables. It didn’t bother us, but it might bother others.
Maybe by now the renovations are done and the pool is fixed. But with so many great options in Tulum, I’d absolutely avoid this hotel and book elsewhere.
- Mikaela (7/5): Cute hotel with some potential improvements - Alquimia had very lovely staff, and lovely beach club where you can sit and enjoy drinks and food while looking out to the ocean. Rooms were cute and looked lovely. However, the beds were definitely not king size. Or even queen. And the shower had VERY low pressure, which worsened in the evening. This definitely impacted the comfort of our stay. But we wil say the AC worked the entire time and THAT was amazing. Because Tulum is humid!
We also felt that the price we paid for what we got did not reflect well. But having been to Tulum now, we realise EVERYTHING is expensive in the hotel zone. It’s just the price you pay to be near the ocean I guess.
This said, overall we enjoyed our stay here. The staff looked after us with cheap parking across the road for our e-scooter/bike and helped us book reliable taxis as needed.
- Ruiz (10/5): Exceptional -
- Molly (10/5): We loved our first visit to Tulum! - We loved our stay at Alquimia and highly recommend it! The staff were so welcoming and attentive and gave us great recommendations. The room was beautiful and kept clean/stocked daily. Our room was steps away from the pool and beautiful beach - it was so easy to get to the cabanas and relax! We also saw wonderful views from the rooftop. The hotel was super close (walking distance) to a pharmacy, grocery store, and many different restaurants, so we felt so connected to everything. It was easy to take a taxi into Tulum Centro, and the staff helped us navigate how to take the colectivos, as well. The only small issue we had was with the WiFi not working, but the staff fixed it promptly! Again, we highly recommend Alquimia and hope to return!
- Rick Johannes Hubertus (10/5): - Beautiful hotel located directly at the beach. The staf is great and delivers good service. The shops and restaurants are all in walking distance of the hotel. Really nice place to get some peace and have nice food and cocktails at the beach!
- Randall (8/5): - Very nice location right on the beach toward the south end of the hotel zone. Very friendly and helpful staff, at the front desk and at the beach. The shaded beach beds under the palm trees are wonderful! Very good food and drinks, but a little expensive.
I stayed for 5 days with my 14-year-old son. Our room was nice and clean and had AC that we only used at night to save energúmeno. Not super big room, but I took the cheapest one I could find. Perfec
- Madalina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tanya (1/5): Brutal, theft and privacy violations. Fake cameras, no security - The maintenance staff violated my privacy by watching me shower. The cleaning staff stole over $5,000 worth of valuables, despite my generous tip. The restaurant staff was unprofessional, ignoring us and moving my belongings while I left to use the restroom. Security is nonexistent, with broken locks and fake cameras offering no protection. Despite filing a police report, no action was taken, and staff faced no consequences. Locals have reported similar thefts with no effective police response. While the decor is nice and the manager's golden retriever is a nice touch, this hotel fails to prioritize guest safety and respect. I strongly advise against staying here. - Eren (6/5): Excellent location, poor quality - The location of the property was excellent.
I have found the staff poor except the manager lady. She was very well and helpful. The hotel was under renovation and at the reservation they had to know us about it. After flying 13 hrs flight nobody wants to stay in a place with ongoing construction.
The service at the beach and facilities were poor compared to the other facilities in the same row.
Rooms are missing bedside tables, kettle, coffee machine, bathroom needs renovation as well. Price quality didnt find fair staying.
- Melissa (7/5): Great location if you want to spend a fortune - Great location right on the beach, think this was the cheapest hotel in the area with direct beach access. Only about 10 mins walk to lovely restaurants for the evening. Other beach bars for the day are on your doorstep however we tended to stay at the hotel beach as the sun loungers are huge and comfy (comfier than the beds) and they had a good playlist on. The beach bar next door has 2 for 1 aperol spritz though which was nice to pop over for Our initial room in a shipping container was very noisy. Every 5 minutes there was a loud crashing sound and when we complained they said this was normal?!?! Thankfully they moved us as it definitely isn't normal to have to sleep with that. In the new room they were less stingy with the pillows and we had 2 each, but only 1 each in a shipping container. The bed has a plastic topping on which made it feel cheap and not that comfortable.
Nothing opened until 9am and even then it was opening late so you can't get a beach towel or any coffee or breakfast from the hotel until after 9am. Not ideal when you just arrive and wake up at 6am due to the jet lag. However 5 mins walk along the beach there is another hotel called Lulu which opens at 7.30 and the breakfast is really nice.
Everything is extortionate prices at this hotel and in Tulum Playa in general,, higher than in London. Beware you will spend a fortune. It's worth it as the scenery is incredible, but save to spend around £300 per day on food and drinks as a couple on top of the hotel. Or just drink beer.
There is a bit of construction going on at the hotel - the yoga deck is not ready and a bit of an eyesore.
