Guest Reviews
- Delphine (9/5): - Tout
- Philip (10/5): Tremendous food and a fabulous location -
- matalon (8/5): -
- JOHN (9/5): Superb, peaceful location with warm, professional service and an exceptional dining experience. - Staff were very friendly, caring, knowledgeable and professional.
Our room was large and comfortable with outstanding views over the estuary; the grounds were exceptionally well maintained with several amazing specimen trees (some planted in the first half of the 18th century!) and these framed the hotel to perfection.
The menu, food quality and presentation at dinner were all ata level one would expect in a highly-rated city restaurant - a remarkable performance in this rural location.
- Alexis (10/5): Beautiful space with rich history, serene natural beauty, and incredible staff. - The property was so rich in history and natural beauty. The loch was receded from the shore so we were able to walk out quite a ways. The air smells so lovely and salty. The staff was beyond exceptional. They were polite, professional, cheerful, & accommodating. Our room was beautiful and so cozy. The chef may be the best chef in all of Scotland. Every single thing we ate was incredible from the eggs to the Haggis. The photos can’t do it justice. N/A
- Jane (4/5): Very disappointing - Location and exterior DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL ON BOOKING.COM. It will cost you £100 per night more than booking directly via their website (as the hotel’s website boasts). Not 10% more - £100 a night MORE! For those of us on a tour booking multiple hotels it’s just not practicable to go on each potential hotel’s website. Because of the disparity between price and the quality of the room I checked their website on arrival so seeing that message didn’t exactly warm the cockles of our hearts.
Secondly do not book this hotel anyway. Yes it’s in an amazing spot but our twin room was incredibly pokey with sad, worn out furniture and a stained carpet. We paid extra (a whopping £400 a night) for a sea view that you could only see if standing in the middle of the room or seated on a very uncomfortable stool at the desk (one person at a time). No comfy chairs to sit in. By the morning the condensation on the windows meant no view at all until you have breakfast.
But your £400 a night doesn’t get you a cappuccino. No “speciality coffee” available at breakfast because “we find breakfast service works better without it”. So it’s not that they can’t make a cappuccino it’s that they don’t want to. To be clear there were 4 other people having breakfast at the same time as us.
We’d read about hotel awards. About staff that were friendly. About amazing service, fabulous beds and wonderful views. For that and the location we were prepared to pay £400 a night. Don’t believe a word of it.
- Jaclyn (10/5): A Wonderful Stay - The hotel is wonderful. Very atmospheric with warm and welcoming staff, amazing food and an amazing setting. The stairs. So many stairs to the room but it was ok just needed to pack differently.
- Dimitra (8/5): - Perfect Location
Breakfast à la cart
Historic building It needs a bit of renovation as you can see it’s wearing down in some rooms (eg furniture, carpet, etc)
- Rainer Max (10/5): Ein toller Kurzaufenthalt für 2 Nächte. Wir kommen nächstes Jahr wieder!! - Toller Service! Gutes Essen mit erlesener Weinkarte! Alles TOP
- Pieter (8/5): Pleasant but no wow factor except for dinner - Beautiful setting; beautiful inside
Dinner exceptional, so to server Living spaces cold and unwelcoming
La deco assez old school tres scotish.
- Mark (7/5): - Great location, with beautiful views. Lovely garden and the hotel looks very impressive from the outside. Feel the hotel is getting a little tired and shabby on the inside. However, I think this is reflected in the price. I would expect to pay twice as much if it was fully refurbished, so I think it's value for money. Has a lot of history and character
- Glen (10/5): What a beautiful location fabulous views great staff and great food - Stunning location
Excellent breakfast and dinner
Large room with huge bathroom and even a bath
Staff friendly There is nothing to put here we liked everything
- Sally (9/5): Had a lovely relaxed stay in a beautiful pink castle with top class food and service. - Absolutely stunning location, beautiful building and surroundings. The staff were amazing very friendly and attentive. The hotel was a lovely old building and the furniture and decor matched the vibe and character with added extras of modern needs like a small fridge, tv on the wall and fab shower. We had breakfast which was absolutely beautiful, the taste and presentation and service were spot on. Unfortunately we didn’t get the chance to have dinner but the menu was lovely.
- Michael (10/5): Wonderful- food exceptional - Just wonderful
Food Exceptional
- Tracey (7/5): View were lovely and the breakfast service and food was a wow factor. - The room that we stayed in was lovely and big. The views were lovely too. The breakfast was the best out of the whole stay they were very helpful and kind The television was so small you could not view from the bed. They did not have a safe for all our personal belongings. To much furniture in the room that spoiled the character of the building.
- Rita (10/5): -
- Norma (10/5): -
- helen (10/5): - Booked last minute toiring highlands.
Very welcoming. Comfy room. Excellent breakfast. Menu for dinner bit limited obviously for fancy dining- but easy to pop back to town for something casual.
- Brendan (9/5): -
- Joe (10/5): We had a wonderful stay at Bunchrew House! - Our room was exceptional - lots of windows looking out over the Beauly Firth. We had breakfast and dinner in the dining room, and the service and food were outstanding. Overall, it was a wonderful experience staying at the Bunchrew House.
- Scott (10/5): -
- Wulf Reisender (6/5): Musty room in a beautiful building close to Inverness - The building itself is beautiful. The grounds are very nice. The common areas give old school luxury. Our room was very pretty to look at with a poster bed. We had a problem with our shower not draining and they took care of it right away for us. There was a very musty smell in our room which never went away, and the windows were painted shut. It was sort of a small thing, but also kind of affected the overall feeling of staying there. Nobody likes a musty old room.
- JOSE LUIS (10/5): -
- Ian (10/5): Would definitely stay again - Everything, lovely breakfast included Nothing
- Johann (9/5): -
- Jan (10/5): -
- Piotr (10/5): Amazingly beautiful retreat - The location, views, building and room - just stunning! Amazing dinner food. Breakfast could and should be better.
- Stephan (8/5): Staying outside Inverness for the highland tour - It is a quaint house with a staff that keeps the high standards. The bar was fantastic. The grounds were pretty I wish they had a bar or lunch or a light menu. The menu for dinner does not change so you would like a variety of you stay more than a few days
- john (10/5): Relaxing stay with great food and service - All good N/a
- Gregory (10/5): - Dinner was spectacular, over the top delicious.
- Diane (6/5): -
- regularguy (9/5): Memorable stay in beautiful old house - dinner, room shower rather weak, stairs to climb
- Hazel (7/5): - Staff were very good. Sometimes little details like work vehicles being parked where they block the beautiful view from the restaurant are disappointing. We were lucky to have seat at the window but view was spoilt by something that could have easily been avoided with a little consideration.
- Steve (8/5): Nice place to stay right on the waters edge - Dinner was excellent as was the cooked breakfast It was a cold night of only 5 degrees when we stayed but no fires were lit and it was cold in the bar and Dinning room.
We asked the bar person and she said she would get someone to light a fire, no one did this.
The previous Hotel we stayed at had three fires going in the bar and lounge room plus radiator heating so many people stayed for extra drinks before and after dinner - something to consider when deciding about lighting the fires.
- Cécile (9/5): - L emplacement est incroyable.
Bon accueil.
- Veronique (8/5): -
- Kristina (10/5): A beautiful stay on Beauly Firth - Our stay at Bunchrew House Hotel far exceeded any expectations. The hotel itself is stunning. Located on the water, the views are stunning. Our room was one of the largest we had during our 10-day Scotland road trip and was very comfortable and beautifully decorated. The food is delicious - we particularly enjoyed breakfast - and the dining room overlooks the water, resulting in gorgeous views while eating. It was a short drive into the city making for a convenient locations. Would absolutely stay here again!
- Marco (8/5): A nugget of heritage - Location and heritage of the hotel, not only about the building but mainly about the service The rooms miss a bit of modern life…
- Manmac (9/5): - Au calme , tres cosy . Belles chambres spacieuses.
- Melissa (10/5): Memory making experience with family tucked just outside of town in this beautiful escape. - Beautiful, peaceful manor. Amazingly hospitable staff. Lovely fireside bar for late night chats and good laughs. Lots of stairs. Inquire about room location if traveling with elderly family and friends.
- Gary (10/5): - Great location wonderful staff room very large and comfortable
Dinner and breakfast where lovely
- Edna (10/5): -
- Giuseppe (7/5): -
- GABRIEL EDUARDO (10/5): -
- Diego (10/5): Lovely! - The place is magical, the room and the loch view! :) A late dinner would have been great idea to unwind!
- sharon (8/5): Overnight stay at Bunchrew House - Size of room, food was good. Location was good bed comfortable. Nice fire in bar. . Bit tired, breakfast service could have been better. No sauces offered and took a while to bring it when asked for. Had to be reminded to bring orange juices. Bathroom was cold - heating could have been switched on by staff when they showed us to room or they could have shown us how to do it.
- Sonsoles (9/5): -
- Rui (8/5): - Atmosfera impecável. Falta de pressão de água no duche.
- James (7/5): It was ok it’s a shame about the shower but there are worse things out there - Lovely view great breakfast Shower not so good kept starting and stopping
- Emma (9/5): -
- Barbara (10/5): Delightful stay and we were treated wonderfully - The building itself was spectacular and the staff very attentive. Our room was spacious with a lot of natural light. We had a car so not really a negative, but is a few miles outside of Inverness so does require a car.
- Ryan (10/5): Staff were great from the moment we arrived and to top it off the room was a dream. My wife adores outlander and the his - Beautiful secluded location just enough away to be in a quiet peaceful location but not too far at all, a stones throw really, to everything you need in the city of Inverness.
- Marion (9/5): -
- graham (10/5): Perfection - Everything. You have it perfect. Great staff, great establishment, great restaurant and wonderful grounds. We loved it. Toast. Just personally but that is a tiny issue in this gem of a hotel
- Geoff (10/5): -
- Geoffrey (10/5): -
- Hogarth (10/5): A great location, helpful informative staff, rooms of a very high standard. Would happily recommend. - Excellent location, beautiful room and fantastic food. Nothing to comment on
- JacquiDaniel (10/5): -
- Paul (10/5): Like being in a fairly tale castle, romantic cosy and will definitely be back - Stunning location
Beautiful rooms
The food was definitely Michelin Star ⭐
The history is magnificent and the staff were absolutely fabulous Nothing we loved it all!!!
- Annabelle (10/5): -
- Lori (10/5): Beautiful house with picturesque views. - We had a charming room on the highest floor. Lots of stairs, but we expected that and only brought in what we needed for the night. We didn't eat dinner at the restaurant, but it smelled amazing. We did eat breakfast the next morning and it was really good. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Our room was very large and the bathroom quite spacious. . .not always what you find in Europe. I'd definitely stay again! Nothing. . .everything was great!
- Philippe (10/5): - Absoluter Traum, old English style, sehr nettes Personal und Hunde freundlich. Sehr leckeres Essen.
- Lauren (10/5): - This property was positively magical. From the turreted roof to the enchanting gardens to the loch-side views, it felt like we were in another era. The staff were kind and the high tea was absolutely fabulous. For having such storied history, the hotel is kept up to high standards, and we adored our suite with a view. The perfect place for an overnight stay on the way to Skye. There was very little to dislike about Bunchrew. The bed was a bit firm for our liking but that is just personal preference.
- Peter David (10/5): We are already looking forward to returning next year... - This was a genuinely memorable stay for both of us. We relished the kindness which met us, the exceptional quality of the restaurant both at supper and breakfast, and the ability of the staff to blend competence with kindness. Nothing!
- Adriana (10/5): -
- Tolga (9/5): -
- Raugeviciute (10/5): -
- Jacob (9/5): - Restaurant Stairs
- Jonathan (10/5): Scottish Serenity! - I can hand on heart, say this was one of the best hotels I have stayed in! Absolutely outstanding in all aspects. I am trying to think of anything that could be improved upon and the only one I could think of was to change the use of high quality paper napkins to linen ones in the restaurant! Nothing!
- Antoine (9/5): -
- Ian (10/5): Relaxed romantic waterfront historic house with fantastic food and comfortable rooms. - Relaxed vibe beside the water, a boutique country house hotel with great staff and a warm welcome.
Food is exceptionally good, breakfasts are beautifully cooked and presented and dinner is as good as some Michelin starred places we’ve visited - worth having dinner here as part of your stay.
Very dog friendly with lovely walks in the grounds and a dedicated dining room for visitors with dogs which is still laid to the high standards you can see in the main dining room with crisp white linen cloths and shining silverware.
Rooms are spacious and the bed was very comfortable with quality white cotton sheets.
A real treat whether you are here for relaxation, a romantic stay, to experience the Lord Lovat / Fraser family heritage of the house, or for a business trip in Inverness which is only a short 10-15 minutes away. Some areas of the house are ‘worn’ but there are clear signs that it’s being upgraded and improved, reception advised us new furniture was being delivered for the lounge, to compliment the new curtains and refreshed decor - the hotel will only get better as it’s family owned and you can tell there’s an attention to details because of that.
- lorraine (10/5): Pleasantly surprised.Booked at last minute. We had a puppy with us and she was incorporated into our stay really nicely - It was a beautiful location.
From entry to exit the service was exceptional.
We had dinner which was one of the nicest meals I’ve ever had.
Breakfast and service was first class. Liked everything
- Lesley (10/5): A magical location with exceptional ambience and food. - Absolutely stunning location, room and dinner and the staff couldn’t have been any friendlier or helpful.
- Wendy (9/5): Beautiful romantic house - Beautiful house with Beautiful scenery.
Staff were lovely and friendly too. People above us were a little noisy....but its an old building.
- David (10/5): Lovely stay in our own fairytale pink castle by the shoreline. - The staff were great as always, the room was fantastic being the same one we had when we got married 15 years ago and the food and drink was exceptional! Nothing, it was perfect!
- James (10/5): Beautiful building, amazing food and service - Lovely traditional property and very friendly staff. Very difficult to fill out this section. Lovely place
- Alessa (9/5): -
- Birgit (10/5): - Wonderful stay wirh a fantastic view. Nothing to complain!
