• Alina (10/5): - Das Frühstück war wirklich der absolute Hammer. Bei der Auswahl lohnt es sich überhaupt nicht woanders hinzugehen. ☺️ Die Lage war wirklich super: es ist ruhig gelegen auf einem Hügel, aber man ist trotzdem schnell in der belebten Gegend. Der Wäscheservice war super und man konnte direkt in der Unterkunft einen Roller mieten. Die Badezimmertür ist sehr verzogen und lässt sich nicht schließen. :) Man sollte wissen, dass man eine relativ steile Straße zur Unterkunft hochlaufen muss. Aber alles machbar.

Die Nine Arches Bridge ist in ca. 20min zu Fuss erreichbar, der Little Adams Peak in ca. 30min und die Zugstation von Ella in ca. 15min. Die Gastgeber sind enorm herzlich und jederzeit erreichbar. Zusätzlich hat uns das leckere Frühstück, welches man auf seiner Terrasse geniessen kann, sehr gefallen!

• j (10/5): Aanrader! Alles dichtbij, comfortabel en heel vriendelijk! - Comfortabel, hygiënisch verblijf en behulpzame en ‘warme’ familie. Ze hebben goede transfers geregeld en het ontbijt was fantastisch. De ligging is erg centraal (hierdoor heb je wel ook wat geluid van de stad) en het balkon is ruim met privacy. Kortom een aanrader! In de omgeving zijn er, ook heel vroeg, behoorlijk wat geluiden: moskee om 5:15 uur, honden en een dichtbij gelegen bouwplaats.
• Azeez (8/5): - The staff were friendly and responsive when asked for help. The view of the Ella Rock was fabulous. There were good facilities from fridge, kettle and cloth hanger. The room was spacious and clean. The location was close to the city center, although it was on a hill and little steady to go up walking. There was no hot water for shower and the water pressure was low. Also, there was a constant unpleasant smell in the room, not sure due to what. I stayed in the first floor room.

• Nina (9/5): - Neu eingerichtetes Zimmer mit wunderschöner Aussicht vom Balkon, alles sauber und gut ausgestattet. Sehr nette Besitzer. Überall drumherum wird gerade gebaut, deshalb kann es zu Baulärm kommen. Auch lautes Hundebellen gab es früh morgens von einem Wachhund auf der Baustelle.
• Geoffrey (10/5): Well worth the walk up the hill !!! - The room we stayed in was on the top and only a few months old. It is absolutely beautiful with 4 posted beds covered with quality mossie nets. The balcony is to die for and huge. It has a large dining table and chairs and a couple of wooden lounging chairs. It has expansive views over the valley and you can spot the train in the distance. Very quiet place. The hosts are amazing and so helpful arranging tours and washing of clothes. The breakfast is huge and delicious. By far exceeds other accomodation for similar money. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

• Carina (8/5): Great location, nice room & big balcony, doors and sink need fixing - - location is great, 5 minutes to the main road, close/walkable distance to Little Adam’s Peak & Nine Arches Bridge. We also hiked to Ella Rock from the homestay - big balcony with a view on Ella Rock (blocked by a coconut tree but didn’t bother us) - comfortable bed with mosquito net - hot water shower - our front door was broken and only secured with a small lock - the bathroom door was also broken and couldn’t be closed - the sink tap was leaking If these things get fixed, the room would be perfect.

We were on the ground floor. The water pump is loud and if it is raining the noise is like in construction place - rain is hiting the metal plate above the bathroom window. You cant close the bathroom window.

• Eva (10/5): Highly highly recommend! Was nicer than most hotels i’ve stayed at in Sri Lanka. Perfect spot of paradise - So so beautiful! The accomodation was exceptionally clean, large and even had a mini fridge which was great to keep water cold! The space was private, had a beautiful view onto the mountains and felt so peaceful. Was extremely well located with a beautiful walk to see the 9 Arch Bridge, do a cooking class and visit Ella. Chandani made the stay so amazing, such a beautiful family! nothing!! everything was great.
• Hoiye (8/5): Very good - The space was great, location not the most convenient but Ella is small so it doesn't actually matter. Note that is it on a hill. The breakfast situation was confusing because we were told it was 500lkr per pax and we repeated the number to the host, because 500 sounded too good to be true, to which he responded yes it's was 500 per person for the breakfast. But when it came to paying, we realised it was 1500lkr per person (still reasonable btw because it was an exceent spread) but we were surprised. Wouldn't have taken the breakfast offer if we knew the actual price as we didn't have enough cash prepped. BUT, the host's mom said that we could just pay the price we were told so all was fine. Despite the miscommunication (hopefully that was what it was), I still felt quite bad because the breakfast and the service was great.
• Jennifer (10/5): Amazing value for money. Very comfortable stay. - Brand new. Amazing value for money. Brand new tiles and fittings throughout. Very close to the town but on a side road so not noisy. Comfortable bed and bedding(nice to have a light duvet instead of just a sheet. We had a very comfortable stay. Guy working there helped us with our heavy bags up the stairs, too. Tea, coffee, hair dryer provided. Nice balcony with table and chairs. It is located up a very steep hill. Not an issue for us but if you have mobility issues, this might be tricky. Water pressure not great. But still had to give 10/10 as it is brand new, very clean, with some added touches like bath mats, mosquito net, tea/coffee/hair dryer etc that makes it stand out and being excellent for the price.

• David (6/5): Pleasant but the ground floor room smells damp and musty, and could use redecoration - Location is good and very quiet being away from the main street (albeit up a bit of a slope; it didn't bother us but is worth mentioning). Balcony is scenic and pleasant with a view of Ella rock. Bed is firm but comfortable. Staff are very friendly. Breakfast is plentiful and tasty. No air conditioning per the description, but a large floor fan is provided that works well. May 2025. We were in the ground floor room. We can't comment on the other rooms as we haven't seen them. Unfortunately, the ground floor room has a strong musty damp smell and our bedding was very slightly damp to the touch. Looking at reviews of other homestays and even hotel rooms in the Ella area, this seems to be a common issue in Ella. For the time being at least, if you are staying here I would ask to be in one of the two upper rooms (which may be better), or, if that is not possible, ask whether this issue has been mitigated a bit. If you're booking last minute, I would recommend getting to Ella and asking to see the room of any homestay/hotel before you commit to it, as this problem seems to be a bit of a lottery in Ella. We were told breakfast was £2 (approx 800 LKR) and had breakfast one morning while there. When we checked out we were charged 3,000 LKR for breakfast. We didn't quibble this but again worth mentioning.
• Altan (10/5): Unforgettable stay with beautiful Sri Lankan Family - After living abroad as an expat long time, I finally felt home with this beautiful family. We arrived in very rainy day, and woke up to beautiful breakfast in our private balcony with beautiful Ella views. It was calm but only 3 to 4 minutes walk from Ella center. The room was spotless clean, bed has curtain around so you can sleep at night with the doors open while enjoying beautiful weather of Ella, and you don't have to be worried about the mosquitoes. Additionally, I have to say couple sentences about the spectacular breakfast. We were asked which time we would prefer to have our breakfast, and they were more punctual than even big chain hotels, served to our doorstep with full pot of amazing Ceylon tea. The breakfast contains egg hoppers, coconut samba, dhal curry, fruits and beautiful Sri Lankan Crepes. (excuse me I couldn't recall the name of the delicacy) We even requested to have a dinner there, since it was one of the best home cook meals we had in Sri Lanka. Eventually, we prolonged our stay since it was one of the rare relaxing stays of our 15-days Sri Lanka trip. We sincerely hope to come back to stay with them.

• Andrew (10/5): Great Homestay in Quiet Location - Situated about a 5 mins walk from Ella centre, but set back from the road in a lovely quiet spot, looking out towards Ella Rock. This is a perfect location for some peace and quiet but close enough to Ella for all the restaurants and bars. The room was lovely and clean, with a nice big bed, a fan, good wifi and an amazing terrace with great views. The hosts are very friendly and attentive. We opted for the breakfast every day, and it was enormous and very very tasty. So big in fact, we had to save some of it to eat instead of buying lunch out. I would thoroughly recommend a stay here, and would stay again if we ever revisited Ella.

• Katie (6/5): Pleasant - Perfect location, just 5 min walk to the beginning of town. Near to lots of restaurants, but slightly away from the hustle and bustle. Beautiful view from the terrace. Family was always friendly and happy to help, even surprising us with a free breakfast. Unfortunately the room seemed to have not been used in a while, as the taps for the toilet were switched off, and the room smelt very damp. Even after 3 days, the smell was still overpowering, and made our clothes inside the room also damp. Lots of bugs in the room too, although that didn’t bother us so much, especially given the price. This was a pity as everything else about the accommodation we really enjoyed, it just needs a freshen up.

Nice balcony with a view of the mountains (though view was obstructed by a large coconut tree). The family is adorable, especially the mother, who makes the most amazing breakfast (best we've had in Sri Lanka) with large portion size Ella is quite humid, making it necessary to air the room often. Mold in the room, especially in the bathroom.
• Greta (7/5): Great bed, great balcony but expect the minimum from the staff - Bed was really comfortable and it was nice to have a little balcony. Staff was flexible with our change of booking. The location was close to town and easy to get to from the station but still off the main road so quite quiet. The owner spoke little English and was not very forthcoming. It was quite hard to get a hold of him and he didn’t have much information about the area. The room was quite clean but we did get greeted by a turd on the outside table that was not ideal.
• Kateřina (10/5): Exceptional - Close to the town center, yet you can't hear any of it's noise. If you are looking for a place, where you can enjoy lovely view over the mountains, privacy of your own room with terrace and bathroom and good WiFi connection, this is one of the best facilities that we stayed at in Sri Lanka. Breakfast for 1500 Rs/head was delicious and could feed a small village and the host was so kind she even prepared a little package for us to go when we had to leave for an early train - for free! Really and truly recommended!

• Lea (10/5): Amazing homestay in City Center 🫶🏼 - The property is 15min walk from Ella train station, quite central. The owners were very helpful, the breakfast was delicious and there is also a laundry service. The portions were huge we paid 1500 rupees per person and were able to take some food with us for lunch - the property also has a fridge as well as a kettle. The bed was very spacious and nice. We also had a nice big private balconey. It was very quiet and we were able to pay in US Dollars and Rupees. Great homestay, thank you!

• Rachel (8/5): Lovely peaceful stay, near the centre but away enough for sleep - I loved my stay in the clouds - the balcony with the tree outside was a real highlight and the family are so lovely. It’s a short walk to the main road and restaurants but also far enough away to be peaceful. There was only one fan and it was stuck on rotate. Wasn’t too bad for just me but more than one person in the family room could get warm. There’s a steep bit of hill to walk up to get to the property. I quite liked the exercise but don’t book if you’re not keen on that.

The room is basic but has all you need. It’s a triple room and I don’t think there is enough space for 3. I was alone and it was perfect. Huge breakfast that you can order extra at a very good price, especially considering Western prices of everything in Ella. I would certainly recommend this place. Very low pressure of water, which can be annoying but I believe it’s a problem in many homestays so it all depends on how much you want to spend. There is a lot of humidity in Ella and I think the room good do a refresh.

She was always so helpful and now we understand why everyone was praising her breakfast so much- it was enough for both breakfast and lunch! Her coconut roti is perhaps the best we had in Sri Lanka! Location is very close to main street but far enough to get away from the noise, teracce was amazing and we had relaxing takeaway dinner there a few nights. The only annoying thing was 5am call for a prayer coming from a nearby mosque but i assume it is heard pretty much in any hotel in the valley..

The room was large and clean, our favorite part was the balcony where we had breakfast every day. The breakfast was insane! It was huge! And delicious and varied every day. There was a fridge and kettle in the room which was great and meant we could have some beers on the terrace and enjoy the lovely view and tranquility after a day hiking. Also nice to watch the squirrels balance along the power line. Comfortable bed. Mosquitonet. Hangers for clothes. Instant coffee, tea and kettle in the room. Moisty air. Slow wifi.
• Iris (5/5): Nice view and breakfast but really wet, dirty and a lot of mold. - The staff was very friendly and the view from the balcony is also really nice with a good big breakfast. It was really wet the whole room.. Your towel or clothes will never dry or will get wet if you leave them in the room. There is a lot of mold on the walls as well. The bath was really old and dirty and you don't want to sit on this toilet (where the paper is also a little bit wet) and after the shower you don't feel really clean.. We didn't like to shower again if it was not completely necessary..
• Kamila (10/5): Exceptional - Awesome guesthouse, I totally recommend to stay here! Walking distance to the train station and main part of Ella, but in very calm area. The room was spacious and very clean, with huge terrace, coffe/tea and water. The family was very welcoming and helpful, and the breakfast they served at the terrace was huge and really good.
• Noémie (10/5): Exceptional - We had an absolutely perfect stay at Ella Cloud Castle. The room is very comfortable with a fridge, water kettle, spacious balcony and super soft bed with nice and cuddly blanket. The hostess was lovely and served us a VERY generous and delicious breakfast on our balcony at our requestes time. Would definitely choose this homestay again if I ever find myself in Ella again!
• Marije (9/5): Perfect stay! - Perfect spot for a couple of days in Ella!! Lovely owners, very nice spacious and clean room, and very good breakfast. You can walk to little Adams’s peak and 9 bridges from here, but also to restaurants and shops. Very recommendable!! Nothing!

Large breakfast View of Ella’s Rock is obscured by trees and bushes, and the location is next to large building works. Stay out along the train line if you want something nicer without too long a walk. Hosts English not great.

• Suekirth (9/5): The best ever guest house stays we've had. Thank you Chandanie. - The rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean. There was also a pedestal fan, mini fridge and an electric kettle for us to make our own tea if required. The lady who looked after us; Chandanie was exceptionally kind and sincere. She served us the most tasty breakfast and dinner on the 3 days we stayed there. She always served us tea and biscuits or fruit whenever we returned from a tiring sight seeing tour. I don't think I have ever come across such a nice hostess whose only aim was to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Her kids were also very helpful and kind. We were absolutely thrilled by the service and recommend this budget guest house to anyone wanting a comfortable, clean, home stay. One of the bathrooms had a problem with leaking taps. The other bathroom was in great shape.
