Guest Reviews
- Anthony (4/5): Lovely place and staff But - The hotel is very tastefully decorated and modern the staff very helpful and friendly the food excellent and cost was very reasonable.
Unfortunately the room we stayed in was right at the front off the hotel it did have modern double glazed windows but they were useless the traffic outside never stopped until after midnight and restarted around 4 am.I am quite a heavy sleeper but this had to be the worst night’s sleep I’ve experienced at a hotel, the bed looked lovely but we couldn’t turn over without it creaking loudly this was mentioned to the staff before we left and the young man was sorry to hear about it he phoned his manager and reported are comments who then said he would contact us to get more information unfortunately we have been back now just under a week and have heard nothing from them.
- Mandy (10/5): Lovely Stay - Really lovely place, clean rooms amazing size bathroom. Food amazing and service great.
- Gareth (10/5): - Great hotel and good food. Nice bedrooms but a little hot. Could have done with an air conditioning unit.
- Sam (10/5): - Lovely clean friendly hotel, great food too xx
- Russell (10/5): Great stay! - Really good value, great food & a spacious, modern room. Top marks all round!
- Donna (10/5): - Ended up on a last minute overnight stay with work and extended by an additional night, partly due to the snow but also the fact that this was the perfect place for some downtime. Staff were super friendly and helpful, food was amazing and the room was just perfect! I work away every week and stay in a number of hotels and I fully and highly recommend this place! Thanks for a wonderful stay.
- Jay (10/5): - The staff were all extremely friendly, polite and helpful! The room was nicely decorated, clean and the bed was very comfortable. The food was great too!
- Nadia (6/5): Good but needs new mattress - Everything was good apart from the bed in room 2, the mattress was a little worn and springs digging in back. Probably the worst night's sleep I've had in a while.
- Neil (10/5): The place to stay in Belper - Check in was a bit slow as the bar area was very very busy.
Excellent accomodation and brilliant full english breakfast.
We will definately be staying again.
- Alister (10/5): Fantastic place to stay - I've stayed here many times and have always had a great stay. Rooms are really comfy and have everything you need. Bar is good, food is great and breakfast is excellent. Recommended.
- Sholto (10/5): - Always great service, If I’m working in area I always try to get a room
- Bridgette (10/5): - Very nicely remodeled! Only recommendation is that they buy new mattresses. The one in room 5 is a thin layer of cloth over protruding coils.
- Charlotte (8/5): Happy - Well looked after establishment. It has been tastefully decorated. Our room was amazing! The decor and size of the room were fab the bathroom was huge!! Not that much could be done about the super hot weather the room was stuffy and super warm. The hotel did provide a fan but I have to say made no difference what so ever! Air conditioning would be an excellent choice if looking to improve comfort during the summer months. Other than that staff were superb. The grounds and pub/restaurant and hotel were well looked after. Close to Ambergate railway station and plenty of hill walking if your a keen walker. Overall happy with my stay.
- Julie (10/5): - Lovely decor and excellent food. The local Derwent Valley railway line makes it an excellent spot for local walks along the Cromford Canal, or trips to Matlock Bath.
- Robert (8/5): Hot & Sweaty!! - Friendly staff, room was very warm it was the hottest night of the year and window wouldn’t open wide
Didn’t sleep well as so hot
Room did have a fan but it was on a timer that switch off every hour
- Alister (10/5): Excellent place to stay! - Great place! Literally can't fault it. Everything is spot on.
- David (10/5): Top notch country pub - Warm welcome from staff eager to help, high standard modern room spotlessly clean with coffee tea, hot chocolate & biscuits provided. Lovely restaurant & bar with selection of real ales and excellent food. No negatives at all
- Sholto (10/5): - Always like to stay here when in the area,
Good rooms, parking, and excellent bar/restaurant.
A shout out to the cleaning staff is a must, the rooms are super clean they do a fantastic hob
- Tom (10/5): - A lovely hotel in a very beautiful area. The room no6, was superb, comfortable and very clean. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. The only possible negative is the main road outside, but that's not too bad.
My only complaint was that I was never told about the night entry. I came back after a meal and drinks out, only to find the doors locked and no sign of a way in. Luckily I found the door after 15 mind searching.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Lovely stay, spoilt by the traffic. - The Hurt Arms itself was lovely. The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful and the food was delicious. Unfortunately, our stay was spoiled by the location of our room. The room itself was decorated to a very good standard and was ultra clean, but unfortunately was situated at the front of the building directly overlooking a junction and so was incredibly noisy with traffic. There was also only a curtain, which we had to leave drawn as both the on coming traffic and anyone on the train, which also overlooked the junction, could see into the room. The room would benefit from the addition of blinds, which would still let light in the room and triple glazing, to cut down the traffic noise. As long as we didn’t have Room 3, we would stay at The Hurt Arms again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great stay - V clean and new. Bathroom was huge! Only issue was that our window was by the massive extractor fan so we couldn't open our window due to noise/smell. Breakfast was really good with excellent choice.
- Richard (10/5): - Great night stop, rooms, staff and food very nice.
- Katerina (10/5): - We had a lovely stay at The Hurt Arms. Staff very helpful and friendly, nothing was a problem. Room was spotless, loved the decor. Good food and great atmosphere. We'll definitely be back. Thank you!
- Zak (10/5): Great stay - Excellent venue with onsite parking. I think they have 6 rooms, ours was clean and modern. Nice bathroom with brilliant shower.
The staff were really friendly and professional. It was a great choice for our xmas eve visit to family where we all met up and ate a good meal.
Good choice for breakfast.
Will definitely return
- Chris (10/5): - This is our fifth visit and the hotel has always given us the same high standard across the board. The staff are really friendly and helpful, the rooms are very well laid out and furnished and the food is excellent. What more could you ask for.
- JORDAN (8/5): Amazing, but pub food is hit and miss - Ate at the restaurant, the food was okay. The rooms are amazing though, the beds are super comfy
- John (10/5): - Single traveller in a very comfortable and spacious double room- very good value. Good cooked breakfast.
- nicky (10/5): - Lovely clean spacious accommodation. Staff very plesant and helpful.nice bar and restaurant.
- STUART (8/5): Hurt arms oct 2021 - Have stayed here before and rooms are very clean and comfortable, nice beds and good bathroom. Breakfast good and staff friendly.
Steep stairs and no lift so ask for first floor if stairs give a problem.
Good location for Derbyshire Dales
- Peter (10/5): A good hotel - Excellent hotel with a good bar and restaurant, the rooms have been very well updated and are very comfortable. Dinner and breakfast in the restaurant was very good. Highly recommended.
- Charlie Moores (8/5): Staff very friendly, room clean. I'd stay again - Seemed a bit faceless when I walked in but staff very friendly, room was very clean but a bit noisy (the A6 runs by the front rooms but double/triple glazing works well), and excellent value. Vegan breakfast was good but hotel was apparently very low on alternative milks which was a shame. Overall though I was pleasantly surprised and unless you really need to be in the town centre (wich is about a ten minute drive away) I'd recommend it.
- Samantha (10/5): Highly recommend - Great hotel . Room spacious and clean. Lots of breakfast and dinner choices at reasonable price. Great central location with bus stops outside if you want to park the car up. Lovely walks up the hills.
- Debbie (10/5): Great getaway - Lovely place and people. Food was excellent. Room clean and spacious.
- Andrew (10/5): Perfect please to stay COVID safe - Brandon the manager there and all of has staff was perfect could not do enough for you room’s brilliant pub below food excellent and the beer cold and very COVID safe will definitely be back thank you Andy and Theresa room6/3
- J (10/5): Lovely place! - Had an amazing time, lovely restaurant and hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very enjoyable stay. Nice comfortable and clean rooms and staff very friendly and attentive. Excellent food. Altogether good value for money and would definitely visit again.
- Jan (10/5): Spotlessly clean - Spotlessly clean. Ideal location. Nice staff. Only disappointment was our evening meal. Met with friends who had moved to Belper. The food was below par so they will not be adding it to their list of favorite places to eat. However the breakfasts were really good so perhaps we experienced a one off with our burgers.
- Micheline (10/5): Geat find - Fantastic find. Fabulous room. Extremely comfortable. Good food welcoming and friendly staff. My room was on the top floor up 2 quite steep flights of stairs, however the staff were more than willing to carry my case up and down. Will definitely stay again. Thank you
- David (8/5): - Very clean and comfortable and well decorated. Large ensuite and shower
- Miss Bebe (10/5): Staycation 2020 - The room was lovely - Really comfortable bed, bathroom was huge and very clean, I'm a big fan of the White Company toiletries so that was a bonus.
We ate breakfast and dinner at the pub twice, all meals were great. Nice cocktails too.
Very quiet location, close to the Heights of Abraham and not too far from Alton Towers. Nice areas to walk around on the doorstep.
Only thing I would mention is there is no lift in the pub, fine if you have a tiny suitcase but I did not!
- Maria (8/5): Nice Hotel - Lovely room, loved the bathroom and the bed was comfy, road outside a little noisy but otherwise all good
- Nicola (10/5): Hurt Arms - Fantastic with helpful attentive staff beautiful room and fab food
- Anthony (2/5): Good in parts. - We were not advised of security measures.
Eating in the hotel was a problem.
Understandable to have plastic containers for drinking outside but glasses were left outside overnight, as were overfilled ashtrays.
If you want to meet the rudest, most unhelpful waiter- go to this hotel. His name is Matthew. He insisted on calling me ‚mate‘. He thought that it was polite! Even after mentioning it, he continued to address me in this way.
We were staying at the hotel because it was near my mother‘s funeral. He made a difficult time even worse.
The other staff were friendly and efficient.
Would I recommend this hotel: yes, if Matt iseither on holiday, or fired.
- John (8/5): Hurt Arms Review. - I have stayed at the Hurt Arms many times . Rooms are very nice and clean . Breakfast is first class . And the staff are friendly and helpful .
- Louise (10/5): All together Fabulous - Lovely hotel and restaurant staff were very friendly and food and service was excellent.
- MR TS (10/5): Excellent. 5 Star all the way - beautiful hotel. Airy and spacious. Bedroom was superb. Nice big bath and a large shower. Food in restaurant was excellent. Will highly recommend to my colleagues and friends. Looking forward to stahying again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place to stay. All round great food and service
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean rooms that are sizeable and tastefully decorated. Helpful and friendly staff. Great beer.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely place as a stop over. Room very good, restaurant was lovely. Good menu.
Comfortable accomodation
- Alex (10/5): - Really enjoyed our stay. We were made to feel very welcome. It’s a lovely little pub/B&B, staff really friendly and helpful.
Needs a new mattress in room six, and not very comfortable.
