Guest Reviews
- Lisa (9/5): Overall a great stay - The onsen was awesome, the room was a decent size, the staff were so helpful, and the location was great for skiing/boarding. Easy to visit the snow monkeys (about half an hour bus ride), but remember to line up early (15-20 mins) for the bus or you won't get on. Very easy to get ski/snow board rental from a place in the basement, you can also rent clothes and goggles. Also very easy to get lift passes, with the hotel offering a small discount for 2 or more days. The beds were a little hard, but the covers were toasty warm. The food was plentiful, but not particularly healthy (lots of fried food) although there was soup and salad available at both breakfast and dinner. Our room was at the corner of the hotel, so there was a bit of condensation on the floor of the toilet which was a bit disconcerting, and any clothes next to the wall got very cold.
- Edgard (10/5): Exceptional - Everyone was very nice and helpful. They helped me get all my snowboarding gear and told me exactly where to go and what to do afterwards if nobody was there, very patient with us, especially with the language barrier. All in all great service would come to stay again.
- Kevin (5/5): Passable - The staff were extremely friendly & helpful The property is very dated and somewhat rundown. Prices were very high based on the state of the hotel.
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Sisilyn (10/5): Good view of the slopes - We had an amazing stay at this place. The room was clean & comfortable. Aki was incredibly welcoming & very helpful, making us feel like a home away from home. The breakfast being served was wonderful. Dinner was superb! Highly recommend to opt for breakfast & dinner as the food served was really delicious & moreover, there ain't many restaurants around. Best host ever, going above and beyond to ensure we had a great stay. We will definitely be back... Bathroom abit small.
- Leonie (5/5): All it needs is some money spent. - The food was excellent and shiga beer a treat
It was well run and management lovely.
Shower was great
Good giftshop.
Good location below Tanneno more ski ope The rooms. Our room had beds for 5. Thus no room left to move around in or to put luggage for our party of 2.
Towels threadbare.
Bathroom sink adjacent to the door with improvised shelving from leftover building materials.
No powerpoints to charge phones by the beds.
Its in Shiga but it aint grand.
The lobby is comfy and could be great but it is too cold to sit in
- Stephanie (8/5): Very good - Everything that you need in one place. There is not much else going on there, so make sure you book the place with breakfast and dinner (which is really good). We all developed a bit of an allergy from the bedding.
- Michael (8/5): Very good -
- Carolyn (10/5): Exceptional - Very wonderful staff… great meals
- Janice (6/5): Pleasant -

- Stephen (8/5): Great value for money hotel a short walk from the main ski slope. - Great location, a short walk from the main slope. Bus stop is pretty much just out front. The rooms are basic but comfortable, and ours was actually fairly big. Good buffet breakfast in the main hall. Also has an onsen which we used regularly. There is a ski gear hire place in the basement. Good value for money accommodation relative to other ski fields in Nagano prefecture.
As a word of advice, there aren't many independant places open for dinner in Shiga Kogen - a lot of the local visitors eat dinner in the hotels and the dinner service finishes early by western standards for ski areas. And on a Sunday night barely anything was open! So if you have young kids, or hungry adults, you need to lock in reservations ahead of time, or book in at the hotels. The room decor is a little dated. More pillows would be good.
- Alexander (8/5): Very good -
- Melissa (6/5): Very nice stay with wonderful breakfast and great location, unfortunately expensive for families - Breakfast was wonderful and the location and ski/snowboard convenience is great. Has ski rentals and ski school sign up on site. Can’t beat a private locker for ski equipment for apartments. Great space for a family. It was too expensive with old equipment. The apartment we stayed in was very nice but too hot, beds were not comfortable for the kids, way to expensive as they charged us for our 3 year old child who is usually free in hotels and transportation.
- Gopalkrishnan (6/5): Pleasant -
- Christina (8/5): Great location, plenty of rooms, short walk to slopes - Great location. Easy parking, nice views, good Japanese breakfast.
- Janelle (7/5): Nice no frills location for skiing in Shiga Kogen. - The location was good. The Nagaden express bus stop in Ichinose is right across the street and it is a short walk to the ski lifts (and it’s possible to ski back to the hotel though we did not figure that out). We also rented skis right at the hotel - it was very easy. The quad room we booked had four twin beds and a private bathroom (I think the booking.com description says it’s “shared” but it’s not). The there is also a ski room to store skis and boots. If you are staying in Shiga Kogen, plan to eat at your hotel. There really aren’t restaurants, except the ones in the hotels and on the slopes (the lodges). We did not know this and didn’t add on the meal plan and found it hard to find food! We looked at the food offered at this hotel and it didn’t look great (it was buffet style) so we looked elsewhere - so I can’t speak to the quality of the food.
- Maarten (8/5): Very good - The breakfast was really nice, as well as the spa
- Sue (8/5): Comfortable but needs an update - Evening meals, Onsen The beds were very hard. The room was very dated and old fashioned.
- William (9/5): Superb -
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Chia (8/5): Very good - Location is close to chair lifts. Very close to a bus stop. I think the room is considered spacious for three persons. There is a public bath and also ski/snowboard rental available just at the basement floor - very convenient! Breakfast and dinner was good! The mattresses seem to be too hard for us. I think it also wouldn’t hurt to provide two pillows per person because one pillow is insufficient to support my neck :(
- Yuan (10/5): Exceptional - veeeeery nice, and we will definitely choose this hotel again ! The ladies and gentlemen at the front desk were top notch.
- Lyndell (10/5): Exceptional - The food was awesome. Room large for japan. Staff tried their very best with any request. Ski hire was the best quality, and the ski hire staff really knew their stuff. The reception offered discount lift tickets.
We arrived in a blizzard and could not access the resort. They sent a vehicle at no expense to pick us up some distance away. We were so grateful after a day sitting on a non moving bus. The onsen was very chlorinated i expected thermal or at least mountain water. The resort was a little dated.
- Ben (8/5): Ichinose Snow Trip - The hotel is located in the central Ichinose ski area with several restaurants nearby and a small shop.
The bus stop is located in front of the hotel.
Aki and the staff were very helpful and friendly. They spoke some english, enough to understand.
Dinner and breakfast at the hotel are very traditional Japanese food. Dinner was delicious. Nearby restaurants are busy, and large groups will need to book. I managed to walk in and get a table at some restaurants. Bed mattresses are uncomfortable and could feel the springs, and there are no power outlets near the bed. Recommend using a portable charger and booking a traditional japanese room.
- Alexander (7/5): Good -
- Josh (8/5): Highly recommended - Great location, value for money, breakfast and dinner was awesome. Great onsen. Super friendly staff.
Staff member Aki was very helpful and friendly. Mattresses were pretty old, could feel springs.
- Ananya09 (7/5): Great stay! It would be a perfect stay if the hotel had some upgrades done ... - The hotel staff are really amazing - especially Aki-san who went out of her way to help us organizing some special activity trips, hiring equipment and generally being lovely! :) The hotel really needs a facelift - the rooms are a decent size but upholstery, decor etc could really do with some upgrades.
- Andrew (7/5): Good -
- Verified traveler (8/5): - トイレが、洋式少なく和式だけの階あり、感想室もスキーブーツを置いておくと取られそうなオープンな感スペース、室内まで持っていく手間必要でした。
- Verified traveler (6/5):
- 855karinak (4/5): Snowboarding - If you're foreigners and aren't into a Japanese style breakfast you'll get a problem. Bathroom of the room is pretty tight and hair dryer only in the onsen.. The good things is that's pretty near in the sky resorts
