- Philip (10/5): - Great location for visiting National Trust properties. Great information provided and a lovely cafe to have breakfast before you start your day.
- John Rich Grant (10/5): Great stopover when traveling North East - The location was very good, we had breakfast and was great with good service. NA

- Rachel (10/5): Thoughtfully done - Beautifully renovated, cosy, lovely luxurious complimentary items (delicious snacks and milk and coffee etc, beautiful hand and body wash, shampoo, conditioner etc). Very thoughtful touches throughout Nothing
- Calum (10/5): Great place to stay, would definitely go back. - Very clean, great wee feel to it. Lovely place. The only thing i have to say, it was like an oven when i went in, great to have the heating on but was too hot. I seen the notice about not adjusting the temp but i had to, wasn’t comfortable for me.
- Kathryn (10/5): Deeply charming and cozy ✨ - Gorgeous property, and such thoughtful touches in the suite. We really appreciated the intentionality and lovely design.
Clean, cozy, quiet, with a delicious and lively little cafe for breakfast on the property. Will definitely be back ✨

- Lynsey (10/5): A lovely base for a family break - It was brilliant and so nice to be next door to the farm shop! The welcome hamper was a lovely treat too
- Dawn (10/5): -
- Julie (8/5): High standard and comfortable stay. - Warmth of lodge on arrival. Lovely touch of having snacks too. The toiletries in bathroom were very nice. The car park at the front of the lodge could have been bigger. Awkward to park. There were no spaces when we arrived so we had to wait as did t want to walk from other car park with all of our luggage - especially as ground was still icy from snow.
- Laura (10/5): Awesome lodges - Excellent little lodge. Will be back
- Corrie (10/5): -
- Jillian (9/5): - Some thoughtful touches like a goodie basket
- Martina (10/5): -
- Pauline (9/5): - Loved the property and shop has the best coffee in Scotland. Delightful staff who couldn't do enough to help us with luggage etc. Would have given a 10 but two things broken in our lodge (bathroom skylight and one button on toilet cistern.)
- Sarah (10/5): - Check-in was easy, the place was clean and having the Farmshop next door made for a very good breakfast or lunch option.

- Susan (9/5): Lovely lodge in a beautiful setting - Lovely property in a beautiful setting. Well appointed with everything you need for a short stay. Generous welcome basket included their own grown strawberries and raspberries which were delicious. We ate at the adjoining farm shop and the food was delicious. Location was great for us, just 10 mins from Inverurie. Would defo stay again if we were back in the area. Not dislikes but a couple of small issues that may help others. We did not realise we had booked a lodge (Seton) that was accessed via an outside wooden stair. Don’t recall that info being shared in any of the ‘blurb’ we read before booking the lodge. Not an issue for us but it would be for anyone with mobility issues. Bedroom has a large window in the ceiling directly above the bed but there is no blind to cover it at night. We stayed over the summer solstice and it was broad daylight from 2.30am, not great for sleeping. Same in the lounge area if you were going to be using the sofa bed.
- Susan (6/5): Beautiful scenery and castle. Good food. The suite could have been better prepared for our arrival. - Great breakfast. Nice welcome basket. Beautiful views of castle and fields. Unit was small. No batteries in remote for TV so couldn't watch tv in evening. Feather pillow provoked a serious allergic reaction. No obvious trails to explore the property or the farm. Very close to busy road. Would have like to have fold out couch made up in advance, rather than make it ourselves.
- Siaw (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tain (10/5): Highly recommended accommodation at the price exceed our expectations. A gem of a place. - Clean, friendly staff & a beautiful welcome basket of Barra berries which was a lovely touch. Location & beautiful setting.
- Jill (10/5): Beautiful, and in excellent location - Pristine, large, lovely apartment. Hostess provided the best raspberries we've ever tasted and strawberries were out of this world too. Location is excellent for visiting dozens of castles, stone circles, and the gorgeous Aberdeenshire countryside. Wish we could have stayed longer! If I had researched more about the area, I would have booked a longer stay!
- Ivona (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely loved our stay at Barra Castle. The farm cafe is great too! We loved everything
- David (9/5): Superb - Very pleasant lodge to stay in. Complementary strawberries was a nice touch.
- Alison (10/5): Beautiful lodge - Had everything you need and lovely ideal location for travelling through
- Stephenson (10/5): Beautiful lodge, surrounded by beautiful scenery. - Breakfast was delicious. Farm shop on sight serving food is a great idea.
- Kathy (9/5): Very relaxing - Very comfortable and clean staff at the restaurant were excellent! Loved the little touches and snacks
- Gillian (6/5): - Lovely apartment. Mainly very clean but a few high cobwebs.
One window not working.
Plug in bathroom sink not working.
Kitchen sink had drip all night.
Good quality fixtures and fittings
Lovely welcome box. Lovely setting.
Would return.
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional - Fabulous accommodation. High standard. Perfect !
- Kaitlyn (8/5): Beautiful Cottage, Updated, Could Use Some Clear Signs Directing Incoming Guests or Include It In Arrival Information - This was the cutest little cottage & a great way to unplug.
My only issues was upon arrival, we pulled into the farm shop & tried to find signage or a place to go to “check in” with someone. After walking around the castle/grounds we finally found someone who told us the door is left unlocked for incoming guests. I didn’t see that anywhere in our check in instructions so I kept wondering what would happen if the farm shop wasn’t open, how we would have known how to get in? Location felt remote however it truly was short distance to a grocery store or food options. Breakfast was arranged at the cafe next door which was lovely, however upon finishing we thought we could walk the grounds & show our toddler the animals or cows considering it was a farm & after clarification you can not see or go near their animals or cows etc. Outside of being near the castle while staying in your cottage, you don’t really get to experience a farm or a castle or even walk around & enjoy the grounds much. That made slightly difficult with 3-4 four old who want to walk & see everything.
- Irina (10/5): Very nice - Very clean
- Dawn (10/5): Will visit again❤️ - Lovely decor with attention to detail. Toiletries were lovely that were provided and the hair conditioner as good as any expensive products I would usually use. Spotlessly clean., also liked how bathroom had underfloor heating, and lodge already warm when we arrived. It lwas great that there was fresh milk, tea and coffee and biscuits and nibbles for when we arrived, after a day of travelling. Visited cafe and shop, had lovely varied breakfasts and some take away food, thank you, used the discount voucher provided. All food we eat was delicious., fresh and we did not have to wait. All staff in cafe were very friendly and hard working even though cafe was busy. Think it was the manageress who even took the time to speak with all customers including having concern for my mum ( who is registered blind). I have recommended to friends, and would definitely book again if in the area.
- Robert (10/5): Wonderful gatehouse - Exceptional quality and finish everything about the place oozed charm and felt like a home from home.
Definitely recommend a visit . Welcome pack was filled to brim and even fresh milk in the fridge.
For a nice cuppa on arrival. Perfect.
Ps wonderful bedding and comfortable bed.
Spotless. Only one thing there was no spatula but chef managed with other utensils available. I’m sure if we had asked we would have been provided one .
- Rachel (10/5): - The lodge was beautiful and clean inside. It felt like a home away from home
- Carran (10/5): Lovely lodge with everything you need. Will definitely stay again. - Facilities were great, I liked the extra touches such as the welcome basket and the location for the farm shop.
- Elaine (10/5): We had a lovely nights stay in the Seton Lodge, bed was so comfortable didn’t want to get up to leave, haha, but yeah we - Beautiful, clean & comfy, with picturesque scenery what more could you ask for. N/A
- Alistair (4/5): Problematic, but so close to being great. - The breakfast was great, porridge with berries and figs was amazing. Smoothie was one of the nicest I have ever tasted. Service was good too. Great location. I booked through booking.com with the breakfast listed as £0.10p, but they refused to honour this on my second night. I know this isn't a one-off issue, as the staff mentioned it had happened before.
The heating in the lodge property did not work either (13c /55.4f). I had to use the hob in the kitchen to try and put a little heat into the room. I didn't phone the owners about the heating, as you cannot do much with underfloor heating at 9pm at night.
Despite the above, I think when they get it right it's a great place to stay.
- Marlene (9/5): Beautiful Scenery nice Jam - The aesthetic’s of the Castle behind the lodges. Mostly the Jam is amazing. This is the second time I have stayed. This is the second time I stayed but first time I visited the cafe next door owned by the castle for breakfast. I did not know if you were staying at the castle you had to book. The lady was very rude when I asked for a table and said you better hurry and eat before someone is reserved to sit here. I replied well make the food fast and we will. That was the only disappointing feature apart from the room had gone up in price a year out and they are slow to reply on email.
- Angela (10/5): Brilliant - Breakfast was lovely really impressed would definately return. Nothing
- Andy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Middleton (10/5): Ramsay Cottage - Perfect little cottage, everything you need, very comfy bed, a great shower, a restaurant next door for breakfast or lunch, or cook your own.....all round brilliant. One wee wee thing, maybe just add a cloth for wiping units and cleaning pans.
A bit more information for arrival. Didn't know what cottage we were going to, or what to do. Was just sent a generic email. Probably just an error, but the manager at the restaurant was more than helpful, and friendly.
- Sabrina (10/5): Phenomenal - Amazing! Marketing does not do it justice … heated bathroom floors , separate living room with a double pull out , a full kitchen , fresh milk , teas coffee there for you. Clean , we travelled through Scotland and Ireland this trip and this was by far our best stay! No dinner available only break or and lunch but amazing food and ice cream. Drive ten mins for dinner or bring groceries.
- Fairweather (10/5): Second stay here...excellent lodge & staff in the farm shop. Food was delicious too! Will be back .. -
- Sheila (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (8/5): Excellent. Highly recommended. - Location was perfect for us. Quiet clean comfortable well equiped .
Would have stayed for 10 days if there had been availability. Washing machine would have been handy
- Catherine (10/5): Loved it! - From the moment we arrived everything was beautiful. Lovely cottage, super comfortable beds, able to cook our own dinner, generous bathroom. Lovely basket of goodies - all delicious. The grounds are beautiful and the farm shop next door just delightful. Had one of the best berry smoothies ever!
- Gill (10/5): Everything we wanted for a comfortable stay - Lovely modern cosy flat with great shower and comfortable beds. Fantastic treat box too full of the best local fruit that had superb flavour.
- Michelle (9/5): Superb -
- Bernard (10/5): Very pleasant stay, great facilities and top quality food at the farm shop. - Some road noise, however that subsided in the evening.
- Lepold (10/5): Exceptional - Felt very welcome!
- Bill (10/5): Choose this one! - Beautiful apartment and grounds. Highly recommend!!
- Graham (10/5): Exceptional -
- John (10/5): Barra is exceptional. - Everything. Nothing.
- Jan (10/5): Exceptional - Best veggie breakfast I've had north of Edinburgh.
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Debora (9/5): Superb - Beautiful setting by the castle. Lovely accommodation & great breakfast in the farmshop. The welcome basket was also amazing, especially the barra strawberries. Would definitely book again.
- Karen (10/5): Excellent stay - The property had everything! It was such a lovely lodge. Welcome pack was a lovely touch! It was a little noisy from the passing traffic early in the morning and the lambs in the field.
- Sheryn (10/5): Hands down, great place to stay, so don't hesitate - We loved that we were staying in part of an old castle with history, we also enjoyed the comfortable beds, how well appointed it was and the lovely hosts who left a basket of goodies which was huge and included a large amount of their amazing berries. That we only stayed one night, could have nestled in here for a week at least.
- Thomas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great - Great place - we will be back.
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kami (10/5): - Absolutely charming! One of the highlights of our trips!
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional - Everything
- Alison (9/5): Lovely Lodge in a good location. - The lodge was very clean, comfortable bed and good quality bedding. It was great to have milk in the fridge for our tea, coffee and a little basket of nibbles. I had booked a table at the Farm Shop for our breakfast but unfortunately there wasn't one available when we went there so we offered to take it to the lodge but the staff very kindly offered to deliver it and we didn't have long to wait which was excellent. My only complaint is that I thought breakfast was included which I would have expected at the price I paid for one night as it was quite expensive.
- Jackie (10/5): A real little gem and well worth a trip! Look out for the stars! - The lodge was absolutely gorgeous. Very comfortable and relaxing. Everything we needed. The stars at night from the bed were so beautiful. Would absolutely use again when travelling.. thanks so much for all the little touches. The warm bathroom floor was really nice! Loved everything!
- Mark (10/5): The lodges are a fantastic place to stay, great communication with owners, lovely location, clean, modern appliances, co - Fantastic location and outlook, quiet and very comfortable. Nothing to not like
- Janice (8/5): We had a wonderful family break sharing theAbercrombie and Ramsay lodges. We look forward to recommending the lodges to - It was like a home from home. Great having the kitchen facilities as we were travelling with an infant. Beds were extremely comfortable. The welcome pack was very much appreciated. Everything we needed was in the property. Nothing
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect stay ❤ - Amazing stay and a real find, will definitely be back next time I have meetings in Aberdeen or to visit family. Absolutely loved the lodge, THE most comfortable bed I've ever had in any hotel or self catering property, beautiful bathroom, fantastic quality bedding and fittings and very well equipped. Very stylishly decorated, it feels like a labour of love, so much thought has been put into everything and all the little touches like Sophie Allport mugs, lovely cushions, welcome gift and the copper coloured cutlery etc make this a very special place to stay at a very reasonable price. Also loved the cafe and produce, it was nothing short of idyllic. Make sure you take home some fantastic Barra Berries! Best raspberries I've ever tasted. I stayed for an expo at P&J Live, it was great location for this and Inverurie is close for shopping, restaurants and bars. Just brilliant....
- Helen (9/5): Perfect location and accommodation for our family visit :) - Great location for our needs, easy on-site parking and modern little apartment with view of the castle and gardens. Lovely having the farm restaurant there at hand for delicious breakfast and lunch :)
- Claire (10/5): Exceptional -
- Maree (10/5): Fabulous place to stay. - What an absolutely fabulous place to stay. Our lodge was very clean, comfortable and well stocked. The cafe and farm shop offer great food. The berries let for us in our room were so yummy. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Do yourself a favour and stay here. Everything was perfect.
- Kristie (10/5): We only stayed for one night passing through and it was way more than we were expecting. The grounds and apartment were - Absolutely everything Nothing
- Stephen (10/5): superb - great set up, breakfast in the farm shop excellent nothing
- Sarah (9/5): Warm, perfectly appointed, beautiful view of Bennachie. - WARM, exceptionally well equipped with all the practical things to make life easy. Fab , comfy bed. loved the decor. The use of copper piping: so cool. The traffic noise, but maybe I noticed it so much, because where I live is very quiet.
- Marie-louise (10/5): Exceptional - Abercrombie cottage was beautiful. Very clean and comfortable. Breakfast at the farm shop next door was tasty
- Andrew (9/5): Great castle stay - The grounds of the Lodges are lovely and our lodge (Ramsay) had a fantastic view of the castle. It felt magical.
The bed was comfy and the kitchen and overall facilities were well stocked and thought through.
The farm shop and cafe is EXCELLENT and if you're staying here you must visit it. We had breakfast there both mornings, the berry smoothies are lovely. Car park is right outside the lodge which is great but on the second day it was completely full so we were unclear on where to park our car.
- Aimee (10/5): - amazing stay , absolutely stunning house !! will definitely be back.
- Anonymous (10/5): the Lodges at Barra Castle are fabulous - excellent setting - comfortable lodge with all you need for your stay.
- Rim (9/5): Superb - A lovely cottage, very well looked after and clean. Everything we needed was available. Maybe the fact that the upstairs floor creaked so if you are a light sleeper you might get woken up by movement upstairs.
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jenny (8/5): Perfect end to a memorable year - A really lovely stay. Thank you for making our final overnight stay of 2022 a memorable one.
- Ian (10/5): - Cute accommodation, clean and comfortable with a great place for breakfast and lunch close by. Easily walkable into Inverurie and somewhere I’d definitely recommend for a short break.

- Robbie (5/5): Noisy and sleepless - clean, beautifully furnished and great location The guests in the flat above had a party all night.! we did not get any sleep whatsoever and had to go up and ask them to turn the music down at 3am. they continued until 7am. I emailed Barra Lodge to inform them and have had no reply. ver disappointed.
