Guest Reviews
- SANDI (2/5): - The room had a terrible mold smell. Everything was outdated. The safe didn’t work. The bathroom was disgusting. The shower head was barely functional. The bed was very uncomfortable. People upstairs were extremely loud…not that the hotel can control that part but if everything else would have been to standard that may have been overlooked. The best part of the stay was being able to connect to Netflix on the TV.
- Katrina (2/5): - The lake view was amazing but the room was dirty. Didnt meet the staff. The office had closed before we arrived so we went next door to their sister company and picked up our room key. It was a second story room and there were no room numbers on the doors, except for the first door. We guessed correctly which room was ours and tried the key. There were cobwebs in the bathroom and the floor didnt look like it was cleaned in a while. The bed was questionable so we only used the sheets. We didnt need the air conditioning. I guess you get what you pay for. It had a 7.4 rating so we expected better than it was.
- roger (2/5): - driveway unsafe, inside climate unsafe, dated room as a whole, bathroom door would not close, no vent ,mold present, no one present during listed office hours poorist room I have rented ever
- Lori (10/5): - Loved the old knotty pine and uniqueness of our room. Lake view was really awesome.
- richard l (4/5): - bathroom is like a phone booth. poor house cleaning. staff is lazy. rooms are not as advertised in online nor guide profiles. would not stay here again even if NO other rooms were available in the area.
- Kathy (6/5): - This property is in a nice location. We checked in a little early and had to wait for clean towels. We noticed the coffee pot in the room had not been emptied or cleaned from prior guests. The refrigerator made a terrible vibrating sound. The staff were friendly and accomodating.
- Jessica (8/5): - All I can say is that the view was perfect!!!
- Sue (2/5): - The remote for tv did not work, room had cobwebs, very noisy place, no ice machine on premises. Very thin blanket and sheet was dirty. Would never stay there again. Very overly priced $168 for two full beds, no queens at all. Was a dive..
- Guadalupe (8/5): - i was shown three rooms all three were very dirty, had to cancel and go to another hotel. Horrible experience.
- Tama (6/5): - Property was not very clean. Dusty lamps, sheets full of lint, cursory cleaning at best. Room smelled of mothballs.
- Robert (6/5): - Great view
- Joanne (8/5): - Bathroom was very small for a heavyset person. But overall it was fine for a place to sleep in St Ignace. The price was right for a two night stay.
- Cathleen (10/5): - Views beautiful place was run down.
- Jennifer (2/5): - We checked in and then right back out. This hotel has not been updated in 40 years from the looks of it. The room was dirty and had broken lamp shades. There were dead bugs in the corners of the room.
We asked for a refund and left.
- Cynthia and Randolph (2/5): - First time I’ve ever refused to honor a hotel reservation. One bed (we had 2 rooms) had crumbs on the sheet, some kind of substance stuck on the shade, room next door had a gas grill right outside our room that was being used, etc. I believe this may now be popular for seasonal workers who rent by the month. The young man in the office was very kind and apologetic when giving us our cancellation. I thought I’d done due diligence prior to booking which brings me to my first ever public negative review.
- Dansby (8/5): Cheeky & Iconic - She’s a cheeky, last century motor court, but she still has charm, and her Huron-shore setting is hard to equal for the view. We enjoyed our stay…
- Emma (6/5): - The place is overpriced for what they offer. For about the same price you can stay at much higher rated hotels in the area. If you’re desperate for a place to stay for a night it’s fine. I was a college student looking to travel cheap so my standards were pretty low haha. The rooms bed sheet had lint, some hair, dirt. One bed just had a sheet tucked in on the sides not even a fitted sheet. The shower was dirtyish and the water temperatures were freezing cold and burning hot. The parking lot is also on a huge hill so any car even remotely close to the ground will scrape and it makes in hard to get in and out. Like I said my standards where pretty low so I stayed the full three nights I booked, but honestly, wish I had looked for something else since I didn’t even save much or any money. Guys at the front desk were nice enough.
- Diane (2/5): - The room was dirty. Trash under bed and in drawers. Shower was discussing. Was sure if the sheets were clean. I’ve never stayed in a worse place
- Terrence (2/5): - Cobwebs, shower falling apart. Room was right on the highway. Very noisy. Beds were only saving grace. They were comfortable.
- debbie (6/5): - nothing was as pictured or shared to believe. We checked in and found beds to seem un made- windows broken with tape on them/ bathroom shower floor from 1950 felt like could fall thru floor- smell was horrible/ floor had so many bugs/dirt/lint -unbelievable- behind head boards so much dust and mold- not healthy!!! Needs serious help- did not stay -left to find a safe/healthy place-- this was not it- felt like no one had cleaned or been in there for 50+ years/ would not recommend-safer to sleep in your vehicle!!!!!!!
- Christian (10/5): - Love the view
- Myrna (6/5): Bayview Lakefront Motel review - Very unkempt; tv did not work properly; window a/c had gaps between room wall and a/c; floors were full of sand; was hesitant about the bedding, it looked unclean and thrown together, sniffed sheets and pillows but smelled ok; shower stall floor and stall and bathroom totally outdated, extremely small. Will never recommend or stay again. Seagull poop all over outside motel area.
- Donald (6/5): - A beautiful location, but rooms were small & outdated. Bathroom was substandard.
- Angela (4/5): Went somewhere else - Room wasn't vacuumed. Had a weird smell. Just wasn't comfortable. A lot of pet hair from previous guest. Asked for a vacuum or to have the room vacuumed. Guy at front came & vacuumed. He was very nice & the only positive part of this reservation.
- April (6/5): - It was ok, a place to sleep. Staff was nice.
- Darrell (4/5): - very small bathroom, floors were dirty, linen was ok, small tv kept blacking out refrigerator was a freezer. froze everthing we put in is except wine.
- Kristie (2/5): - The owner has not put much attention into updating the property. The beds are 3 inch foam with a single layer mattress pad that doesn’t completely cover the whole mattress. The furniture looks like it came from a garage sale. The bathroom had new toilet and sink, the toilet seat was not screwed down and slid all around. We did not use the shower due to its stains & poor condition. The pictures online were very deceiving which I told the manager. The safety chain on the door did not have the latch and was useless. The TV was extremely hard to use. The air conditioner was very old and the management did not have it on before we got there. We had to wait outside a couple hours for the room to cool down before we could bear to stay in the room. The bed skirts were too big for beds and draped down all over the floor. It was very messy. We did not find any other rooms in the area so we stayed that first night and checked out in the morning. No one got much sleep. I don’t feel this is the managements fault because there is only 1 person to do everything. She is very nice and try’s but under the circumstances her hands are tied.
- Sally (4/5): - Checked in at 4:45 pm and room had not been cleaned. Had to leave for a while. Room was old, dirty carpet, furniture missing a handle, dripping stain on wall, no mini fridge, shower was awful with no place to put tiny bar of soap. Motel is right on the lake but the beach was covered in goose poop and smelled awful.
- Mary Claire (2/5): - Spider webs, dust and dirt, definitely needs updating especially for the prices paid
- Verified traveler (10/5): Good motel to stay at - The bathroom sink was a little sketchy, and the smoke alarm was missing a cover. Otherwise, it was an awesome place
- Tracey (4/5): - Overpriced, flys buzzing
While I was trying to check in. Untrained staff.
- Christopher (4/5): A pretty escape with some compromises - My girl and I took a family trip to explore the area. This was the cheapest we could find at the time, and it sort of lived up to its price-point. No problems at check-in, the staff are very friendly and accomodating. As soon as I walked into the room, I was blasted with humidity. They had not run the A/C to dehumidify the room. There was clearly mildew in the carpet, so I asked for a change of room, which the staff happily accomodated so that they could later rebook the room, as I found out. The second room was cleaner, but the bathroom had at least 3 spiders that didn't bother me. At least the microwave and mini-fridge worked. The bed sheets were clean and very comfprtable, but the bath towels were dirty before we even touched them. The view is really pretty and the place has its own fire ring you can use, but you have to buy your own wood. My last complaint is the angle of the drive-way, which is pretty common for many of the hotels/motels along the street. If you have a low-profile car, you have to come in at an angle to prevent scraping or else try the Quality Inn down the street.
- guillaume (2/5): Disgusting - Room was disgusting. Hairs on pillow, dust everywhere, and I can't describe the bathroom... Better to avoid this motel and maybe pay little extra to get better accomodation.
- Janice (2/5): - The room was horribly dirty; I'm sure it had never been cleaned under the beds and along side the bed by the wall, and all floors were sandy. The dresser/fridge had residues of duct tape on it. There was no hair dryer. The overall function and look of the room was ancient.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Outdated - This motel, although inexpensive for the area, is outdated. It doesn't appear that any updates have been done since built. Our room was in the back building with an air conditioner that didn't work and a bed that would not be comfortable for more than one night.
- Cathy (6/5): - Desk clerk was very nice and helpful. Came in late
- Cora (2/5): - Room had not been cleaned when we checked in --they just changed the sheets and put new towels in. The floor in the bathroom was dirty on arrival and there were flies and spiders in the room. The TV was broken. The beach in the Expedia pictures does not look like the current beach on the property -- which was dirty and covered in both dog and goose poop.
- Diane (8/5): - It was clean
- Todd (6/5): - Bathroom needs to be remodeled. Windows need to be replaced.
- Amy (8/5): Desk clerk - Had trouble with the TV in the first room and the young lady at the front desk tried her best to fix it but was unable to so she moved us to a different room. She was very well mannered and friendly!!
- Rooney (10/5): - Great
- Tom (4/5): - waterfront accessable.
- Denise (2/5): - Asked for maid service got nothing in 2 days. Bathroom floor dead bugs, dirty. Holes in wall no curtains just shades. Very dirty carpet dusty furniture. Bugs on walls as well. Old dirty bedding under mattress. Outside lake view was only saving grace. Room next to us had bugs in their bed. They had to leave and went to another hotel.
- David (4/5): - Nice view. Spartan, small room for two adults. No refrigerator, no cups for in-room coffee, water underneath coffeemaker, no ice. Beach area has good view, but not of bridge.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The room was dirty! Hair on shower walls, debris all over the carpet (clear evidence of not vacuumed), half used shampoos and conditioner as complementary soaps. The smell of septic fills the air outside. Single cup Coffee make available to use however no cupsor coffee to go with it. Overall an uncomfortable experience.
Pros, the view from this property is top notch. Private beach.
- Rachel (6/5): - Amenities didn’t work in the room. The steps to the room are too high had to jump down when leaving room. View from room was great, but the walking area wasn’t picked up and the people around were quite noisey. People were smoking right outside of room so that was coming into the room. However, it is closer to walking distance into town and a good price.
- Heather (4/5): - Offered a coffee pot, no coffee. The floor and tables areas not the cleanest. Came back from dinner and are door was ajar as if it had been opened. The sitting chair outside the room was very dirty.
- Barbara (8/5): The view - Was a great view of the lake, rooms are old school charm but efficient quiet walls, had issues at check-in & then was double charged but taken care with phone call to property. Price was great for the city & pet friendly
- Joseph (2/5): - I question the sincerity of the high customer reviews after staying at this motel. In my initial room, the AC unit wasn’t working. They gave us a new room. Moved all our bags to realize that the main light wasn’t working. They moved us to a 3rd room. We moved our bags and left for dinner. We came back after dark to see a cloud of flies/insects on our door and on the light in front of our door. We knew the room would be filled with flies after opening the door. No other doors were like this. I talked to the receptionist and she tried to downplay the issue inferring that all rooms were like this. I asked her to come and look. She opted to move us to a forth room instead so we moved our bags once again. As luck would have it, the AC in the 4th room was not working. At that point, we decided to cut our losses and keep the 4th room.
Overall, the rooms were very dated and had an unpleasant odor- I can still taste it. The bathroom door didn’t close all the way. Bathrooms are ancient showers very small.
They have a nice fire pit in the back on the water but I was told when checking in that they didn’t have any wood to burn. I would have to supply my own wood. Unfortunate because that was the main selling point for this motel.
Other than my car, there were only 3 other cars at the hotel when we went to bed and woke up (early). After this visit, I understand the lack of visitors. Not recommended at all. Stay away.
- Kenneth (4/5): - There for a quick trip looking for a clean room but this wasn't it
- Mitchell (10/5): - I’ve stayed in the past for the car show, it was the same as always. Nothing out of this world but it absolutely gets the job done. But for low riding vehicles the driveway is tricky, though that is really my only complaint.
- Citlali (4/5): - The room was dusty and there were small animals and webs
- Cheryl (4/5): - Pool of water at end of bed told attendant he did come mop it up but the room had terrible musty smell bathroom was small and the shower install was not completely finished. The flooring warped - think there is a problem with air conditioner and it leaks and water sits on floor until reported
- Christine (2/5): - Definitely wouldn’t recommend this motel to anyone! No lightning at night and the guy that checked us in said that he was closing the office and then stated we’d have to walk to the Baymont if we needed anything, which essentially meant “Good luck, try not to die” pics display everything you need to know about their “premium” room.
- Denise (4/5): - We had to wait for someone to check us in. When we got to the room it was still dirty. Came back later, Tv didn’t work . Room was discussing . Afraid to take my shoes off. Shower looked like something in a campground. Bed was comfortable, looks like they are trying to up date, but they should definitely wait till they are done. We were in room 10. Pretty scary, floors weren’t swept, spiders and cob webs in the bathroom! Young gentleman that checked us in was nice! Wouldn’t have stayed a second night if it was free!
- Amanda (8/5): - Tiffany was very nice and the young man that was checking me in. Seems like they have updated the place.
- Amy (2/5): - I had a reservation booked and nobody was at the property (several attempts in the same day) 6/7/25 available for check in. I tried calling, and returned multiple times. Ended up having to book another hotel for myself and my dog.
- Jesse (2/5): - Place was closed
- Ali (8/5): - No one at the front desk. You had to walk to the next hotel which us owned by the same family
We were the only people staying in the whole building. The second day, another couple checked in and they gave them our room even though our stay with them wasn't over, yet.
- Kelley (10/5): - So, this is a very old property. That said, it is very well-maintained. I am of the mindset why not stay in a room that has knotty pine walls and mid Century modern furniture than the usual cookie cutter hotel. Parking is directly in front of your room door. It is 20 feet to walk to the lake front. It is a very nice walk up and down the lakeshore. There are geese and other water birds fishing in the morning, people with their dogs running along the shallows. Just the sort of vibe I want an old Lake town. Of note, it is much easier to get on the ferries in St. Ignace than Mackinaw City.
- Kevin (10/5): - This place was cute and cozy, with a beautiful view of the lake.
- Dale (4/5): - Very dated property in need of a deep cleaning. Room wasn't ready when we arrived at 3:00pm check in time. We were given a second room and discovered after unloading that cable tv wasn't working. Staff tried to get it working to no avail and then called another person who wasn't working only to be reminded that cable service wasn't working in any room on that side of the property. We were then given a room on the other side of the property. Bumped the a/c cover and it came off exposing a filter that looked like a wool mat it was so dirty. Wiped something off the floor and discovered the floor was literally black with dirt. Normally we would have left after the second room but Stacy was so very nice. She kept apologizing for the problems and tried so hard to accommodate us. The only redeeming quality of this motel was Stacy and the property owners should be thankful they have such a nice employee. We will not return and cannot recommend it.
- Christina (8/5): - Had a king size bed, sheets did not fit. They came off, with you just sitting down. Bathroom was small and door was hard to open and close. Thought I was going to be locked in the bathroom. But veiw was good. And the room was rustic cute.
- Deanna (10/5): - The owner/manager was so helpful when we booked late in the day and arrived at 9:30pm. It was so wonderfully convenient after such a long ride. The room was so welcoming ☺ and I absolutely loved the decor! The ceiling is so cool. The beds were very comfortable. We were very happy with our stay and will definitely be back.
- Saravan (10/5): - Super convenient and close to ferry terminal.
- Mike (10/5): - Absolutely clean room. Right on the beach, with a beautiful view of the sunrise. Fire pit. Very hospitable, helpful owner. Convenient location to multiple food choices, convenient stores, sight-seeing places. We highly recommend, and would stay there again.
- Morgan (10/5): - The owner was very nice! Room was super cute! Will definitely stay here again!
- Bill (6/5): - Didn’t like the location
- Martha (10/5): - The motel is lakefront with a nice beach. Fire pit for guests. The manager was very nice and upgraded our room to ground floor which was better for mobility issues. Clean, comfortable bed and nice, thick bath towels. View of Lake Huron and Mackinac Island are beautiful.
- John and Nery (2/5): Done with is wed site - First we had trouble even finding the place. Second it was an old wood wore down dirty place. Hotels.com rated it as very good, not so, also showed it as fully refundable, never checked in but hotels.com billed me anyway. I do not recommed hotels.com because you can contact anyone if you have a problem. Their online chat service is terrible
- rebecca (4/5): - Needs major overhaul of property. Ok location on beach but the rooms are in great need of attention
- Lisa (8/5): Very Nice and Quaint - For an inexpensive room, it was surprisingly nice! Lots of hardwood inside the room. The bathroom was tiny with a standup shower, but it was sufficient for an overnight. There is a bonus little beach with some chairs to relax and listen to the water. Would 100% recommend.
- joan (10/5): - Bathroom was small
- Lisa (10/5): - This is a comfy and convenient place to stay in St. Ignace. Right on the beach with a nice firepit and a grassy area for the dog. Easy walk to Jose’s for dinner.
- Kristine (6/5): - Adequate for the price. Helpful staff.
- Bill (10/5): - We stayed 3 nights and enjoyed our stay at Bay View. Housekeeping staff did a nice job of tidying up the rooms each day. Loved the lake view and nice lounge chairs outside by the water. Comfy beds, clean place.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Very friendly staff, clean rooms
- Frank (10/5): - We absolutely loved our stay at this motel. There is nothing better than sitting on the loungers by the lake after a long day of driving. Our room was comfortable and cozy. Staff was helpful and welcoming. The only drawback was there are not many restaurants within close walking distance.
- Sue (10/5): - Off the beaten path, quiet, friendly staff. They are in the process of updating the rooms. Good progress. Very friendly and helpful staff (especially oecially at figuring out the TV access!). The best part is the evening bonfire on the beach. We met several of our fellow travelers from several states and around Michigan, and we all had a great time. Looking forward to staying here next Labor Day weekend!
- Simone (6/5): - stayed overnight as a couple. Kind of noisy, people walking past our window, dogs in other rooms barking quite a bit. No phone in room, ours were out of network. Beds very comfortable. Facility is quite old (vintage).
- Alice (10/5): - We have stayed at this motel for many years. It has greatly improved and is in the process of more renovations.
The woman in the office, Kendra, I think was very helpful and kind.
The young adults that were cleaning the rooms were extremely hard workers and do a fantastic job.
- Denise (8/5): Lakefront motel - Cute little motel right on the lake. Nothing fancy, but nice. Would stay again.
- Jeffery (6/5): - Bathroom is seriously outdated and ridiculously small. Shower feels like you are in an old washing machine with rusty metal sides and bottom.
- jesus (10/5): - This place was really cute and we had our own private section to the beach. Only down side was the construction Nextdoor and smell of chemicals. The shower is also veryyyyy dated but it was all clean and the rooms were very nice . Great for the price and off the strip
- Dwayne (10/5): - When we take the motorcycle we like to have a parking spot right in front of the room with private entrance and no hallway. This is why we booked here. The room was ok… could have been cleaned better but it’s probably more in need of new flooring than cleaning. It was outdated but still quaint. But it is literally right on the water. Like the water was 30 feet from our window. Gorgeous, serene, and quiet. The girl at the front desk was adorable and super helpful and the landscaper was also super helpful and accommodating. He moved the picnic table right to our door so we could play cards at night while enjoying the water. There is also a fire pit and beach chairs right down in the beach. We did have a super weird guy staying next to us who was definitely a bit sketchy, but although he was annoying he was mostly harmless. We will absolutely stay here again, way prettier than mackinaw city. And the Mexican restaurant that the girl recommended when we checked in was only a two block walk and was delicious.
- Robin (10/5): - The refrigerator kept quitting and the bathroom floor was mildewed and curled away from the tub
- Robert (6/5): - The rooms could be cleaner, plenty of dust and dirty floors. They came and redid the floor when we asked. Nice pool.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Cheaper than most but for good reasons. - We stayed in room 19, just feet from the Hampton Inn's massive new hotel which dominates your view. Construction workers with nothing better to do than party have taken over this place. They seemed to have made friends with other transient workers who took over the beach area and were drinking and smoking weed until after midnight on a weeknight, then they stumbled into work at 7:00 am to work on the hotel. When the work day started we had a steady stream of workers walking, talking just feet from your room. The window in the bathroom had a piece of plexiglass scotch taped over the broken glass and screen is still cut from a previous break in . Floor was gritty from all the sand and the furniture looks like something you might see laying along an old country road.
The woman at the front desk wasnicee but she leaves early, not that anyone cares about public intoxication here. This place needs to be torn down and sold for a parking lot for the Hampton Inn which will be spectacular. I wouldn't recommend this place for travelers.
- Susan (10/5): - The bathrooms really need an upgrade. Otherwise loved the knotty pine decor.
- Brian (10/5): - Good value, good location.
- Eric (10/5): - Older property, but clean
- Verified traveler (10/5): Motel stay - Good little place on the water. Fireplace outside and a place to sit. Not too expensive. Safe. Like most of the hotels/motels in the area, everything is deteriorating and not being kept up. The staff was excellent and very responsive. She called to see what time we were coming and had everything ready.
- Karl (10/5): - Good for the money but small and no breakfast.
- Ann (2/5): - Dirty bedding. Urine stains. Nobody there to check us out. Very out dated and expensive for what we paid for.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Needs thorough upgrade - Hotel very old and poorly kept. Room smelled very musty on entering. Bathroom was tiny with very old fixtures and a cracked squishy toilet seat. Window unit air conditioner with gaps on top,.side and bottom to the outside, not a proper fit for the window. The dwsk pwrson was nice and the mattress was the only redeeming factor.
- steven (6/5): - Sometimes an old motel is just an old
motel, it tried to be a neat place, and the overall room cleanliness was ok
It would have been way more acceptable for $90 a night but for $140 I'm not so sure....
- Frances (10/5): - The property staff was excellent but could use some updating. Otherwise the price was good & we would come back.
- Debra (8/5): - No fancy bells & whistles this was a nice clean place to stay. with comfortable beds at a reasonable price. Quiet and friendly helpful staff. Right on the lake with a seating area. Will defiantly stay here again if I am in the area
- Jill (10/5): - Staff was very welcoming, room was clean
- Elizabeth (10/5): Comfy affordable room - The location was great. We enjoyed the beach and the fire pit. Staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed an extra night with no problem.
