- kimmemoore (10/5): worth stay - Old styles like grandma house. n/a

- Lisa-Marie (10/5): - Wir waren begeistert.

- Marla (5/5): A bit marmite - It’s a heritage budget hotel in a good location in central GT. The house has character. The family room even though there were only two of us was spacious. The bed was comfortable, mercifully there was air con which was efficient. Not sure about the fan which was covered in dust and was pointing no where useful.
The WiFi was erratic and at times non existent. I don’t regret staying in the hotel as it was an interesting experience though I am unlikely to repeat it. The shower worked efficiently. The owner was friendly and as it was Chinese New Year he was informative about local events. The pictures showed a bright airy room, the reality was a room often in shadow, the shutters when opened gave passers by a direct view to the room and lacked privacy. The shower and toilet were carved out of a tiny space and was a bit mouldy.
- Corina (9/5): Perfect for any stay in Georgetown! - Location was superb and perfect for our time in Georgetown. Walkable to everything and quiet enough for a relaxing moment throughout. Travelling with a family we felt really looked after! Kent and his colleague (Yulia) took good care of us! Minor suggestion but it would have been helpful to have an extra pillow for our baby as they had no spares. We brought our own cot for the baby but an extra mosquito net would have been very welcome👆🏾
- Silvia (4/5): - The place is kind of charming at first look The place is filthy without care. Rooms are very dark without mosquito nets on Windows and balcony. Mosquito net on the bed too small
- Nathaniel (10/5): -
- Raewynne (8/5): - The air conditioning in the 2nd room was not working
- Leila (10/5): - If you are still hesitant, don't be and book.
The owner, the cats, the decor, the location, all great
I can only recommend!
- Günter (9/5): Entspannend und erholsam! - Familiär, Ausstattung wie ein Museum! Toll!
- Kalliappan (10/5): - Fantastic place. Creativity, classic style
- Benoit (9/5): -
- Bo (10/5): 3 days in Georgetown. - I had a really excellent stay in this weird, lovely autentic old Guest-House. My room was like a tiny-house, ground floor 2,5 x 3 m was living room and toilet, 1st floor was sleeping room. Located in nice tropical garden.
I’ll be back and book same room next time in Penang.
- Che dah (8/5): - Mengembalikan nostalgia rmh dl2 Bilik air kecil sedikit

- amy scarlett (10/5): Fun and unique stay! - Love this place, so quirky and great central location! Kent the owner was very friendly and accommodating, thanks so much :)
- Simon (9/5): Unique - A small Oasis in the town, charming and lovely decorated. Kent did a really warm welcome and was very helpful to get along the city. Everything you need or want to see in the old town is within walking distance.
A great stay at a lovely place! Not to blame the the location but bring mosquito repellent with you.
Mosquito net could be replaced due to holes.

- Nischt Jibts (9/5): - Sehr sehr freundliches Personal.
Nichts. Alles gut.
- johanna (9/5): -
- Ronan (9/5): - location, host, price a lot of mosquitoes
- Brock (8/5): Very good -
- Schator (9/5): Superb - The owner is very welcoming and gave us local recommendations throughout our stay. The accommodation is lovely, we would definitely stay again.
- Nik (8/5): Very good - authentic rustic ambience with lots of greens bathroom could be better
- Ashlee (9/5): I had a lovely stay! Kent was very welcoming and super helpful! Great location. - Its a really cool place! Love the antic vibe. Was very quiet and comfortable!
- Chee (10/5): Cozy night~ - Cozy vintage building, walking distance to many attractions Nil
- Tim (10/5): Moontree 47 - To everyone that knows, Kent the owner provides exceptional service and lodgings. Quirky and eclectic. You climb some fire escape stairs to get to bed. You are given a padlock to keep your door safe and the resident cats will stay with you if you allow them. Location is exceptional. Nothing.
- Mark (3/5): Poor -
- Edijs (10/5): I highly recommend staying here for at least one night. - When I accidentally came across this hotel, I was surprised and immediately felt that I would experience an authentic atmosphere. I'm not an expert, but I would say the interior in room is authentically designed in a 1970s style. Minimalism. The bed, floor lamp, and air conditioner were the only things that were not from that era. I'm quite sure that the ceiling fan and the chair at the desk are originals from that time. The atmosphere was quiet and peaceful. Downstairs, there is an antique shop/exhibition/café where you can also buy postcards. Very cozy. I didn't even mind that the shower and toilet were outside on the second floor. Not suitable for long-term stays or for working, but overall, I have nothing bad to say.
- Lilith (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ratha (7/5): Good -
- Niranjan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Makiko (8/5): enjoyable! - cloce to sightseeing.
pretty room. bathroom is not very comfortable.
- Drans (8/5): Very good - What a beautiful hotel with so much charm and character. Loved staying at Moon Tree. The owner and staff are quite welcoming. The location and value for money are fantastic. The little cafe at the hotel and adorable cat is a bonus. As others have mentioned, the rooms don't have good sound proofing, so be sure to pack some ear plugs. A small price to pay though as the pros outweigh the cons
- Eleftheria (9/5): Beautiful Stay - I loved the experience of staying at the MoonTree. It was definitely special. I felt that I was back in time. I'm a lover of vintage so I loved the decoration and the stairs to the upper floor. It gave a mystical sense. The location was great right next to all the restaurants and cafes but far enough from the noise. Many mosquitos...
- Enya (2/5): Very poor - Dear future guests,
please look for another hotel.
The photos do not reflect the current state of the hotel. We did not have a good time there. The showers are dirty, it smells mouldy and like insect spray, the hotel is noisy, the cat meowed loudly all night. The owner is unfriendly and did not accommodate us. We cancelled our stay early.
I wouldn't wish such a terrible stay on anyone.
The price-performance ratio is not right. Please look for another hotel.
- Sepyusa (1/5): No privacy, loud, mosquitoes, run down, broken AC. Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. - The location was central and convenient. The host and staff were friendly albeit inattentive. The place was charming but really run down. Everything was broken and messy. The aircon breaking was the last straw; the host didn't know when it would be fixed, and it was too hot to sleep. We decided to leave 2 nights early and forfeit the rest of our stay as the host refused a refund.
You have almost zero privacy: paper-thin walls that don't even reach the ceiling. You can hear every noise from adjacent room.
The noise makes it almost impossible to sleep even with earplugs. Although there are loud bars nearby, there are no windows (only shutters), so you can hear everything outside, including drunks, people talking, loud motorcycles, etc. Oh, and sometimes the owner's cat breaks loose and meows constantly late at night.
Mosquitoes: We had to ask the host to replace the tattered and torn mosquito net. I got absolutely chewed up. Again, no windows means mosquitoes come and go as they please.
Staff are nice but forgetful and inattentive. Besides the aforementioned mosquito net, I got locked outside, where the bathoom is, and had to yell to get the staff's attention for a good 10 minutes.
- Nick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Han (8/5): Very good -
- Iulia (10/5): Beautiful special place - Cute small house, the reception looks like a museum and the owner is a very kind and special guy. The location is perfect, in the heart of the old town, yet quiet. Thank you! 🫶🏽
- Zoe (7/5): pleasent stay 🙂 - location, had character, staff were very friendly Very simple features, could add a small improvements to improve quality IE. tiles on shower floor as opposed to concrete
- David (8/5): Very good - Kent was a very good host, I felt welcome and we had some good conversations. Moontree offers a shabby chic experience amid interesting artefacts, and 2 cats in the reception area. Close to restaurants and bars, and old Penang is walkable from here. I would stay again.
- Adriel (8/5): Great location. A special place. You need to like cats. - A lot of atmosphere. It was a unique place to stay at. The street was very noisy. It was hard to sleep with music going on until the very early hours of the morning.
I appreciate there is little more that could be done to soundproof the room as this is a heritage building.
- Ana (7/5): Great location - The place is a traditional house of Georgetown, so it's charming but modest. Really close to the street food markets!
Kent is nice and really helpful. He gave us a key after check out so we could have a shower before the bus and keep our luggage. The room with private bathroom is actually like a very small apartment. The mattress are upstairs.
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Valentina (8/5): Very good - The place is very cute and the landlord is great. The stairs to reach the bed were quite uncomfortable.
- Sami (10/5): Exceptional - The place is beautifully decorated and it has this feeling of “being at home”. The Owner, Kent, is a very nice guy and he accommodated to all our needs! We would def come back
- Mazidah (10/5): Old gem - Spacious for 3 of us
- Yan (10/5): Unique and cosy stay at the vintage wooden house. - Well curated and crafted house, love the welcoming and warm atmosphere. Not to complain, for those who are sensitive noise this might bot be ideal.
- Dogley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mayu (8/5): Very good - The hotel’s owner's cats were very calm and cute.
My daughter was crazy about those cats and petted them all the time.
- Leigh (9/5): Loved our stay, would definitely come back. - Fab location. Lovely olde world feel. Rooms are basic but absolutely fine.
- Varun (7/5): Good - Helpful staff. Booked for 70 ringgit and had to pay 90 ringgit.
- Homersa (9/5): Superb - - Location, at the heart of George Town and close to places to eat and visit
- Staff and owner are really friendly
- The place has a lot of character and charm and the room was good - Watch the steps in the room
- Techinee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Birch (10/5): Exceptional -
- Carsten (10/5): Exceptional -
- Piumi (10/5): Exceptional - Décoration and design. Kent is awesome!
- Matthew (10/5): Great hospitality - Very unique place and Mr Kent made me feel like I'd been living there all my life. Couldn't have been made to feel more welcome.
- Andrew (8/5): Very good - Old traditional vibes There were mosquito nets and repellent diffuswr but still many mosquitoes
- Farihin (5/5): Passable -
- Heidel (7/5): Good -
- Johanna (3/5): Do not visit off-peak - Owner was friendly and the quirky common areas were cool and interesting. The location was also convenient Owner unbothered about upkeep of the room and air-conditioning in non-peak tourist season at least. The reviews were excellent but the place didn't match it. The first.room we booked was damp and the roof leaked from the rain directly onto the bed. Owner obliged us with a room move the next day but the second room whilst more spacious was also very damp, the Aircon was mouldy and the roof also leaked again, luckily not onto the bed this time. The cafe was basically never open as advertised and we were also locked out when we came to get our luggage on the final day and had to ask the staff at the hotel next door to ring the owners staff to come and open up. Overall very disappointing
- Kathleen (8/5): the most character filled charming place I've ever stayed and the host is lovely. - location, amazing, in the heart of Georgetown being small, you don't get to socialise in a public area.
- Azimi (9/5): Superb -
- Stefan (9/5): Superb -
- Andrew (8/5): It’s a charming place to stay with peace and quiet in the middle of Georgetown. - Great location, close to restaurants, and popular sites in General.
Has a lot of Rustic charm, and the owner has done a fab job with decor in the common areas. Rooms are a bit dark, lack of natural light, but it’s an old building with a lot of character and charm.’s
- Katieclarke (7/5): Rustic vintage, full of interesting things, good value & vibe & comfy bed. Not for sensitive types. - I love this place, although it is not for everyone. It has a unique, nostalgic vibe, filled with curio and you do feel like you have stepped back in time.
The bed was really comfy and the bed linen was lovely. The shower itself was good heat and pressure. Lots of space in the 3 bed room and a private space surrounded by greenery.
Everyone is friendly and helpful. The shower/toilet combo room and edges of the room could have been cleaner, but the shower was good once you were in there. Because it has the original flooring, it takes a long time to dry off which can be awkward. The price and feel for me make up for this stuff.
Some space for hanging clothes would be handy too.
- Mohd (8/5): Cool and calm - Clasic and privacy Everything ok
- Daria (1/5): Good location. Good bed. Don’t be fooled by the quirkiness, the place is filthy and stairs to bed are dangerous!! - The location. Bed was comfortable and clean Very very dirty. No chance of keeping mosquitoes out as gaps in doors and windows. Tiny room, could touch two opposite walls with both arms.
