- Nuengruethai (1/5): It's a scam hotel. - I arrived at the hotel, but nobody opened the door for me. It's a scam hotel.
- Tobias (1/5): -
- Chris (3/5): -
- Muhammad (4/5): - Area The room wasn't like the one showed in the pictures. It was very small.
- Sharon (1/5): Dreadful, disgusting and I wouldn't even give it backpackers hostel status, let alone Hotel - I booked to stay here as I had an appointment early the next day and it was close to the hospital. However, with hindsight, I paid as much to stay as some other nearby hotels Everything. It took about 15 minutes for the door to be answered. It was answered by a lady who barely spoke English, wearing a woolly hat and slippers. The stairs are lethal and the smell in the hall, appalling, probably due to the stinking coconut matting on the walls . My window wouldn't shut and, as a lone female travel traveller, I didn't feel safe. A bed and breakfast {or at least the use of a kitchen} was advertised. I was told there was no kitchen and no tea/coffee or even hot water available in the room. I was directed to the two well known stores across the road. The toilet was probably fitted in the 60's, the toilet seat and lid had been worn down to the original white plastic. It was so bad, I never even contemplated a shower the next morning. I never saw the weird looking lady again for the entirety of my stay, there was a note in the room to say if I needed assistance, to go to the front door and ring the doorbell!!

- Israel Gonçalves Sales (5/5): Desconfortável mas perto de tudo - Localização Tudo
- STephan (9/5): We love it, staff was wonderful, great location. - Location Outside traffic noise ta all hours
- Emma (3/5): Felt like a hostel - Staff nice Really not clean
- Steven (3/5): - No sink in the room!!
- Mark (4/5): Disappointed but late booking left little choice. - Not a lot Age of fittings. No toilet working in room. Felt cleaner not using the shower. Extractor fan type noise running all night. No remote for the TV
- Isobel (1/5): Bedbugs and no refund - Bedbugs and no refund
- Grant (1/5): This place will take your money and never let you in. Don't waste your time. - I was never able to stay in the room, because no one showed up to let anyone in. There were 3 separate groups of people also waiting to get in for over an hour. No communication as to why either.
- Dante (3/5): -
- Courtney (1/5): Avoid. Not whats online - The photos are a baltant lie. The place is lifting. Absolute shambles Everything. False advertisment. No hot water. Bathroom door looked like it had been chewed by a dog. Rooms are tiny.
- Annalene (1/5): Horrible. - My family was mislead, the room that was booked was completely different to what really was there. Not only did the room look completely different but the toilet was broken down and wasn't even working properly.
Also had no mention of no elevators and my family ( elderly lady ) had to walk up many levels of stairs to their room.
Ridiculous and disgraceful.
- Stuart (8/5): Would use again.convenient to Euston and St Pancras - Great location. Neat and tidy. Good value for money My friend didn’t have a sink in her bathroom

- Reuel (2/5): Very expensive, not clean and not worth the money. - Very unclean and shared toilet facilities, not as per described listing.
- Rozmus (7/5): -
- Pamela (3/5): Might as well be a hostel - The location was the only highlight to this booking being right next to the Russell square tube stop, and the fact that all the facilities worked (heat, water, hot water, shower, toilet, fan, etc). The facilities were atrocious. The beds gave me body pains just sleeping on them. I would not call them mattresses; they were cots on metal springs. During a winter stay, you would think they would provide you with more blankets but did not, and there was never anyone on the premises to ask for anything accommodating your stay. This is NOT a friendly hotel for the elderly, disabled, or handicapped person, and you had to climb several flights of stairs for access to any of the rooms (not lifts on premises). For a two people room they only provided one pillow each, which were flat and not comfortable. the bathroom was super old and rusting all over the sink, mirror, and shower floor and heads. I opted to not shower at all during my stay. I felt like I was staying at a hostel-which is not what I paid for! I would not stay at this location again.
- david (3/5): a bathroom with no water pressure and for a 6 day stay room was never cleaned. - location bathroom features not up to standard
- Sarah (1/5): -
- Steven A (1/5): - The size of the room is good. Location is perfect and no breakfast was available. The state of the hotel is very poor and dirty.
- vanessa (5/5): Great loca - They don’t do breakfast.
Very good location, best thing about it! Bedside light didn't work. Shower curtain couldnt be fully drawn, absolutely basic furniture. Could best be described as a bit of a dive.
- Tony (1/5): - Location DO NOT book this hotel or do so at your own RISK
Booked on booking.com
The room I booked was a 3 bed spacious apartment with kettle and coffee making machine in a kitchenette are according to the description and the photo shared by the hotel to booking.com
What I got was a crammed room full of furnititure and no kettle or coffee maker.
The bed had not been changed and had stains on the bedding. There was also no toilet seat.
The booking also said 24hour reception and in the hallway it said to ring outside bell to contact Reception.
I did try to complain to thr hotel., After an hour waiting there still was no response. Tried to contact them by phone number supplied, it was disconected.
Spoke to booking .com to reolve and they said no agreement can be made with hotel when they contacted thrm.
Complete sham and fake advertising false photos etc..provided to booking.com. of the hotel to get business.
Then you cant contact them to complain and they run off with your payment, which had to be paid in advance.
- Adam (2/5): Should hace read reviews - Location was good Well, i should have read reviews beforehand. The room didnt have its own toilet whixh was annoying but to be fair is mentioned in the booking. I had a room that let the light right in from the hall (which was NOISY). The non-suite bathroom smelled like my grandparents bathroom 40 years ago and im pretty sure it was the same suite. What bothered me most though was the broken window lock in a room with a ladder right outside (see photos). Note to self- dont leave it late bookibg rooms in December!
- Hennigar (1/5): Disappointing - Location There was no seat in the toilet, no hair dryer, no lift access and the walls were stained completely.
- Arbnor (1/5): DO NOT BOOK HERE - Nothing Everything.
We had to leave the room. It was disgustingly horrible. Dirty as hell, the sheets and the room stank, and the sheets had stains on them. The room was cold and the mattress was uncomfortable. Horrible. Clean that place.
- James (8/5): Excellent value for money, no frills. Top 10 cheapest hotels in central London - Easy location (directly next door to Russell Square)
This property must be in the top 10 cheapest hotels in central London.
Excellent value for money.
Easy check in / check out process
Had a peaceful nights sleep
Comfortable bed The interior is dated, there are signs of wear and tear. Bathroom small. The water in the shower goes either very hot or very cold.
Overall I expected all of this (stated in the feedback) I wouldn’t have booked one of the top 10 cheapest hotels in central London with no frills.
Based on the service vs cost - I’d rate this property 8/10 as excellent. Can’t wait to stay at this property again when I visit London!
- Rosendale (4/5): - Location was perfect No tea/coffee facilities even though it was advertised on the website, floors in room were on a slant and creaky to walk on,plus very creaky beds and not that comfortable. I told the owner a wall light wasn't working and it didn't get fixed. We spend more time out than in the rooms thankfully as they were really miserable.
- brian (7/5): - Location This hotel needs total updating. Mattress was not comfortable
- Stuart (7/5): Perfectly fine, cheap, great location. - It's a perfectly fine hotel. Great value, great location, ageing decoration and not many facilities. If you're not spending a lot of time sat in your room it's ideal. There isn't tea and coffee - based on reviews I didn't expect there to be, even if the advert says there will be. But there is a great little coffee / breakfast truck literally outside the front door.
- Parola (5/5): - Location was great Top floor was hard work
- Elena (1/5): DO NOT GO THERE! - We had BEDBUGS!!!! The name on the listing does not match the name on google. There is no reception, we had to ring a door bell and wait 10min. for someone to open the door. The building is a fire hazard.
- Irina (9/5): -
- Anna (1/5): Posizione ottima, stanza raccapricciante - La posizione, nient'altro.
- Aljaz (4/5): -
- Jennie (1/5): Do not recommend - Reasonably good location. The bed had bed bugs, it was very run down and not clean.
- Emma (1/5): I would not go back - I called and wrote countless times no response Not at all like the pictures no one to speak to or anything
- Angelique (1/5): Horrible customer service and reviews are really bad! - We booked this hotel accidentally with booking.com thinking it was a different hotel. We realised literally a few minutes after booking so we informed booking about it for a refund. Booking said we had to sort it out with the hotel directly as it had already been paid and it was a no refund booking. They said that hotels are usually quite understanding and given it was a mistake highlighted immediately we shouldn’t have an issue. Well that would be ok if the hotel actually responded to any of our attempts at contacting them.
Well that would tried calling, messages, etc and nothing. They would not pick up the phone or answer any messages. Their customer service is horrible. We never had a chance to explain.
So then we thought to check out the hotel on the app and reviews and given we had paid over £500 for 4 nights we might as well stay there. When we checked the reviews it was bad! All reviews talked about poor customer service, bed bugs, dirty rooms etc, nothing like they were advertising as a 3 star hotel.
We carried on trying to contact them as we were nit staying in such a bad place. We ended up staying elsewhere and we have not recovered our money! Although booking.com heard us out there was nothing they could do. There should be something in their policies when it comes to these kinds of places.
Watch out and check their reviews before staying there!
- Steve (5/5): -
- Ian Gill (7/5): -
- Lucia (1/5): - Pésimo
- Zeke (2/5): Terrible, Unclean and Scam - location No mention of stairs, unclean room, poor quality soap and bedding.
No reception, struggled to find someone for questions besides first interaction
Poor facilities not even close to what is advertised
- Richard (1/5): Good to get to the hospital but that is the only good thing about it - It was like something out of the Shining movie It was dark and needs refurbishment
- Daniel (7/5): -
- Cheung (8/5): Location is excellent, the place and the room is clean. Cannot complain for one night's stay. - The location is excellent, it's literally next to the the tube station. The room is small but clean, one bed is harder than the other, but generally comfortable. The room's floor is sloping, so are the beds. I feared that the floor was going to collapse for a moment.
- Mark (4/5): Good location but very tired / dated - Good location but the hotel was like a 1970 guest house and could do with a deep clean. Very dated, bathroom was very small and old fashioned. The toilet did not flush well.
- NOUMAN (1/5): -
- Smith (10/5): You get what you pay for - You get what you pay for. The pictures show the reality of the hotel. It's clean but dated. Think of it as a journey to the 70s and you will be fine. We are use to the clean crispness of modern hotels and if you want that book that this is a real throwback Lots of stairs but it does say that when you book
- Molina (6/5): -
- Scott (1/5): - Directly next to tube station Woke up to bedbugs. Would absolutely avoid.
- antonio (6/5): -
- Petar (5/5): - Lokacija
- Stuart (7/5): Great location, well-worn but clean and tidy - Great location for trains to north of uk and Eurostar and at a reasonable price It’s very basic which suited us just fine. Others may want more spacious bathrooms perhaps
- Donald (7/5): -
- alexis (5/5): - Has private bathroom but toilet never flushed properly. No coffee facilities like it said online. Light didn't work. Floor was on slant.
- Natalie (8/5): -
- tucker (1/5): It was the worst experience - Location is great The bed bugs were so bad I couldn't sleep at all and over booked the next day.
- David (1/5): Awful. Did not stay could not get in. - Nothing. I could not get into the hotel. It was all shut up at 4.45 pm. My 91 year old father was forced to stay with a friend in Southfield Everything. Could not get in
- Zac (1/5): Scammers. They should not be allowed to advertise on Booking.com - Nothing. I didn't get to stay there, because they scammed me. I was booked to stay at Russell Square Hotel on the 10th of September. Before I arrived for the stay, the staff allegedly found bed bugs in the room and had to cancel my booking. However, instead of cancelling my booking themselves as per Booking.com's policy, they sent me a message on WhatsApp telling ME to cancel the booking. This is a popular scam, because if the hotel cancels your booking then according to Booking.com's policies, they have to refund you. However, if YOU are the one to cancel the booking, then you cannot claim a refund, because you're the one who cancelled. Luckily, I am aware of this, or I'd have been left severely out of pocket. The hotel ignored attempts to contact them from both myself and from Booking.com attempting to resolve the issue. Fortunately, I was able to call Booking.com's customer service team and they arranged alternate accommodation for me, however Russell Square Hotel is NOT a reliable or reputable business. DO NOT stay there, as they may attempt to scam you. I will be submitting a formal complaint with Booking.com to get this hotel removed from their platform. Had they cancelled the booking using the official methods according to Booking.com's policies, I would not be doing this. But seeing as they attempted to trick me into cancelling so that they wouldn't have to refund me, I do not believe they should be allowed to advertise their business here. (See pictures for proof).
- tucker (1/5): -
- Andres (4/5): - Ubicacion Es un Hostel muy basico. Frio, antiguo, impersonal.
- Rob (1/5): Poor - Grumpy welcome. Basin missing.
- Ana (8/5): Great location. Simple but functional - Great location Old building. Can do with a bit of cleaning and refurbish. Check in label at the door was a bit confusing. So need better information
- Ellen (1/5): - The location Would not advise anyone to stay here. This hotel is far below a 3 star, not even a 1 star. You dont get what is advertised: no tea and coffee making facilities, no wardrobe, no 24 hr reception, could not contact hotel by phone, number unavailable continuously. The hot water was just tepid and water pressure was very low, so unable to shower. Decor was very dated and poor. Both me and my husband were bitten many times over the 2 nights by bed bugs. Over a week later and we are still suffering from them.
We stayed in room 6 on the first floor.
- Abhishek (1/5): - Only the mattress Everything
- Stephen (1/5): Falsely advertised on web, disgusting room and bathroom, window and toilet door handle broken, dirty and depressing. I’d - Location Everything other than the location
- pamela diane (1/5): I did not stay - |I did not take up my room
Having accidentally booked a room with a shared toilet I tried to contact the hotel through the website and leaving a message on the mobile, asking to upgrade, but received no response.
- MUSTAFA (4/5): -
- Bianca (6/5): -
- Miranda (6/5): Good value for money & excellent location - Location excellent for my needs Lots of stairs and bathroom v small buut ok
- Joshua (1/5): Terrible - Nothing Smelt like mould, covered in dust, seemed like a fire hazard too. Electrical were loose and open
- Shozo (8/5): Convenient and comfortable stay at the center of London. - The location is very good, just next the Russell Square Station on Piccadilly Line, which directly goes to the Heathrow Airport.
The room was relatively clean and equipped well (TV, desk, chair, drawer storage, small shower room, toilet, large bed, WiFi, towel, shampoo and soap, auto lock door, etc.).
The Brunswick Shopping Centre is right across the street.
Walking distance to Russell Square, British Museum, even to Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park. It would have been great if the room was air-conditioned (especially considering the climate change, it was 30-plus degrees).
There was no elevator, it was a bit hard to bring up the heavy suitcase.
Just a selfish wish-list: micro, fridge, water heater/coffee maker, etc.
- Cassidy (7/5): All goods. -
- Harley (6/5): Pleasant -
- Lucy (7/5): Very convenient, clean and budget stay - exactly what we wanted - Clean Very old dated bathroom with poor water pressure
- Paul (1/5): Should never be used again by anybody visitor or otherwise - It is not called the Russell Square Hotel. It is small crowded with unhelpful staff a separate bathroom and toilet upstairs with constant noise during the night. It should not be on your list of available hotels. It was a case of take the money and damn the consequences. A small pokey little Hotel next door to Russell Square tube station
- Michael (1/5): Bad -
- Marc (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kristy (1/5): Very dirty, bed bugs and disrespectful unhelpful owner - Absolutely nothing at all. Disgusting property The photos online are not the photos of this disgusting hotel!
- Matthew (8/5): Location excellent, property dated but clean. - Location was excellent, literally next door to the tube. Broken toilet seat.
Decor was very dated but clean
- Clare (5/5): Great location, basic but clean room - Very basic! But bed very comfy and I like the 70s bathroom porcelain. Great to be next door to the fabulous Brunswick Centre - excellent for bookshops, Chinese supermarket, and the fantastic Curzon cinema :-) I could not lock the window on the front of the building, but was assured that would not matter. No towel provided - but then I found one tat I assumed had been left for me in the front hall. No footmat! No tea & coffee in the room, but at least in London you can usually get tea and coffee at all hours near by.
- Micheal (6/5): Pleasant -
- Marie (5/5): Passable - Location for Underground and The British Museum was perfect Rooms so small, no Tea / Coffee facilities in room, no lift.
- David (1/5): Bad - Nothing at all dirty place do not use go elsewhere. Booked 4 nights stayed 1 got another hotel Nothing at all dirty place do not use go elsewhere. Booked 4 nights stayed 1 got another hotel
- Satti (2/5): Very poor -
