Guest Reviews
- Francesca (7/5): - Hilda is very nice and always willing to help :) the bed was confortable and we slept very good The kitchen was not well equipped, with a camping table as the only surface to prepare food. Very few kitchenware and only 2/4 stoves available to use (there was an oven but you cannot use it, maybe just to avoid gas expenses?)
The bathroom was clean but the hot water was coming Down literally in drops, while the cold one was perfectly working.
- Hilde (10/5): - Host was very helpful. We booked colca tour here for 200 soles which is cheapest we came across.
Got washing done with hang dry $7soles/kg.
Location was 15 mom walk to square 1 bathroom shared for 4 or so rooms, but wasn't a problem
- Daan (9/5): - Prima Hostel.
- Aleksandra (8/5): - Good place for short stay Lots of DONTS, which don't make you feel welcome. But if you just need a place to stay that's a good accommodation
Chambre froide.
- Li (8/5): -
- Anth (8/5): Good clean accommodation - Great location. 10 mins walks from the centre. Large room with comfy bed. Good wi fi. Nice pleasant staff. Enjoyable stay.
- Daniela Tamara (10/5): -
- Natalie (9/5): - We enjoyed our stay at Hostel Fuentes - it's within walking distance to the centro area, the room is very spacious, the staff are very friendly and helpful, the property is secure, the shower is hot. The room was fairly cold but there were enough sheets so we didn't feel too cold in the night. There is just one main bathroom (shower and toilet combined) and it felt cold at night as well.
- Verity (8/5): Fantastic host, great price! - The lady running the hostel is super lovely and helpful. We were able to drop our bags off early and store them for a few days during our hike to the Colca Canyon. We wanted to extend our stay last minute and she accommodated and was always happy to help. She also has a variety of tours etc on offer that look reasonably priced (we already had our own plans so didn't do any of them). There's also a binder in each room with local recommendations.
We stayed in 2 rooms (we chose to return after our hiking trip) and the rooms are basic, but for the price point, pretty great. It was much larger than other similar properties in Peru at this price, with a table, seating, cabinet and a TV as well as the bed. The bed was comfy and we had plenty of blankets.
The bathroom and communal spaces are really clean - we often chilled out in the communal area and saw the cleaner who I feel works day and night to keep this place spotless (I even saw him wiping the leaves of the indoor plants!)
Location wise, it's a nice area, only 15/20 minute walk to the main square and felt safe. I've seen other reviews comment on the shower and they're right - it is tricky to control the temperature. If you put the hot tap on it's boiling, and then trying to add a small amount of cold it turns it cold. However, if you start with a really small amount of cold and don't turn the hot to full pressure you can get it to stay a comfortable warm temperature, it just takes a bit of patience and small incremental changes.
The kitchen is a little rustic, but has everything you need if you want to cook a basic meal. We mainly ate out.
- Guest (9/5): -
- Alice (10/5): - I had a great stay! The place is very clean and comfortable, and Hilda is lovely!
- Josip (9/5): Lovely - Lovely stay
Had a very late check in around 2am with no problem.
Easy comunicación through the whats app with Hilda.
Extra large rooms, comofortable, hot showers... Toilet paper bin in the toilet should be checked/refreshed more often
- Amelia (10/5): Exceptional - The hostel was very nice, close enough to the center, with hot shower and good internet. We did a tour with the agency from the hostel and was very good. Really suggested
- Aischa (10/5): Nice stay. We even prolonged our stay five days. - Super good price-performance ratio! This place is great if you want some privacy and a calm stay (after partying or just because you need time for yourself).
Here are mostly couples or people who travel together. Hilda, the host, is really nice and always willing to help you! She will also give you advice about what to do in Arequipa apart from the classical tours. It is a clean place and I'd recommend taking a shower I'm the small bathroom because there is hot water.
I'd come back!
- Annie (6/5): Pleasant - The staff were lovely and the beds comfy enough The shower is either boiling hot or freezing cold and the guest kitchen is pretty average. Okay for a night or two
- Jiří (10/5): Exceptional - This hostel is simply amazing. The room is simple, but I liked it. It was kinda cozy. Bathrooms have hot water, and you can use small kitchen. It's around a 15-minute walk to the historical center and even less to the market st. Camilo, where you can buy a lot of staff.
But what is really extraordinary is the helpfulness and kindness of staff. They helped me with everything I needed and even more. Don't be afraid to organize the trips around with them. It's really worth it.
- Timothy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Daniëlle (8/5): Cheap but fine place - Very cheap place with big rooms. We could store our luggage here for free. The floor is carpet and it looks a bit dirty. There are some strict rules about making a stain in them..
The place is kinda far from the city center. You have to walk 15 minutes.
- Tove (8/5): Very good -
- Molly (10/5): Exceptional - Hilda is lovely and really made our experience excellent. the lighting was harsh, only a single light bulb hanging from the ceiling
- Mike (6/5): Pleasant -
- Hayley (10/5): Exceptional - The owner is so kind and welcoming!! It is so comfortable and perfect distance from town away from busy but close to walk! I loved it here and I’ll be back! Recommended to all solo travellers and backpackers !!
Muchos muchos gracias 🙏🏼
- Valeria (4/5): Wasn't disappointing, but definitely one of the weakest stays - The stay was cheap. The beds were okay, and the room was spacious and had places where to put our stuff. The whole building needs a renovation and maintenance is poor. The ceiling has cracks for example. There is only one shared bathroom for all the rooms, so there can be waiting. The bathroom was also quite dirty, with hairs everywhere. Even the next day until the afternoon it hadn't been cleaned. There is no soap to use, and the toilet paper is located outside, so you need to calculate how much you are going to need?! The location is a bit away from the centre as well, in a questionable area safety wise. There is no indication of the name of the hostel outside the door either, which makes it hard to find.
- Alana (10/5): Amazing value - Great value for money, the double room was huge, and bed super comfortable! Hot showers. Simple kitchen with everything we needed to cook our own meals. Easy walk from the main square. The host was lovely and gave us tips on how to go to the Colca Canyon. Would stay again!
- Juan (9/5): Superb -
- Nicole (8/5): Very good - Great large rooms to stretch out in, a super comfy bed, cooking facilities, Hilda the host was lovely! Great location just 15 minutes from the main plaza square.
- Peter (9/5): Superb - Nice clean and big room.Hilda is sooo helpful and nice lovely to meet her Only one bathroom.but clean and shower with hot water
- Joel (8/5): Amazing value: biggest and most comfortable beds in Peru - Super comfy beds. Bit dated
- Maria (5/5): Passable - Room is spacious. The electric shower had very hot water almost boiling but you couldn’t graduated to get it warm. It was super hot or cold water. Not nice.
Check out is 9am
- Russell (9/5): Recommended - Basic room but comfortable, good wi-fi, secure, clean, helpful staff, small kitchen but has what you need. A bit tricky to get correct temperature in shower.
- Maciej (10/5): Exceptional - Peruvians are very nice people but Hilda is simply the best. With a big smile, always willing to help. Hostel in a great location, close to an excellent restauracja
, with the possibility of leaving your luggage during trekking in the canyon, with a wide range of excursions and the possibility of doing laundry. If you don't need the standard of a top hotel, this is the place for you. Muchos gracias Hilda!
- Ryu (9/5): Superb - Nice staff and little common area. Shower was not hot enough but considering the price it's alright.
- Chan (5/5): You get what you paid - Host was very nice. Rooms are cheap The shower of the water temp is very difficult to control , 20mins from the city center
- Marin (7/5): Good - Amazing comfortable bed A bit hard to find, shower was difficult to get at the right temperature (too hot or cold)
- Fabrizio (10/5): Exceptional -
- Josh (10/5): Backpacker budget friendly clean and comfy - Super friendly, helpful, and accommodating. We had a great time and can only recommend this place for future visits. 10 minutes to town, close to local busses and food options. It was a bit complicated to find a good temp for the shower, but at least the water is hot 🔥
- Tomek (7/5): Good -
- Annabel (10/5): Exceptional - Spacious rooms and great location. The staff were lovely (Hilda) and they held our bags for us whilst we went on tours. We were welcomed like old friends when we came back. Can’t beat it for that price ☺️
- Ana (9/5): Good choice for Arequipa - Could check in early after the night bus from Cusco. The room was big and comfy. There is hot water. There is only 1 bathroom for all the rooms.
FYI: payment only by cash.
- Kelly (9/5): The host was super accommodating and friendly. Always happy to help with any questions or concerns. - The host was very friendly! Everything is super clean
- Maria (7/5): Good - The owners have been very friendly and helped us a lot.
- Reddington (7/5): Good - The man running the Hostel was very friendly and helpful. We got the laundry service too which was great. The room was very spacious and comfortable . We arrived very early and he took our bags for us and even managed a slightly earlier check in! Kitchen hob was a bit dirty, plaster flaking on walls
- Joan (6/5): Not the worst, not the best. - The property is very basic but it has what you need.
The rooms are big and clean. Bathroom is big but not always clean, the water pressure of the shower is way too low and you can choose only either very hot or very cold water.
Staff is almost never there and doesn’t give you any information about the place: for example the main door outside should be always open (they don’t tell you this until you are locked out and nobody come to open for you), but they don’t tell you how to keep it open from inside so if someone close it normally and you are outside you have no way to get in unless someone opens for you - mainly other guests that got already in the same situation and hear you ringing the bell, as the staff doesn’t come.
- Valentin (9/5): Superb -
- Roman (9/5): Superb - Excellent value for money
Great kitchen, rooms would need a bit of fresh paint, otherwise clean
Good wifi, hot showers, lockers for luggage
- Tom (9/5): Superb - Great location, comfy bed, nice staff, big room. We extended our stay. No plug near bed, small kitchen.
- Reynaldo (6/5): Pleasant -
- Tamar (9/5): Superb -
- Alexandre (3/5): Worst hostel for the accommodation - Comfort of the bed and size of the roome No staff on duty at any time of our stay ( check in and check out) poorly advertised place on the street, door bell not working, client had to give us our keys and only one bathroom for the hole hostel
- Max (9/5): Superb -
- James (10/5): Even Better Than Before - I stayed here about a year and a half ago and like it for the value, owner and neighborhood it was in - quiet and historic and only a 15 minute walk to the Plaza. It also offer much better Internet than most places I have stayed in Arequipa. I was pleasantly surprised this time as the upstairs had been remodeled and reopened and where the guests stay now. Nice big bright airy rooms with comfortable mattresses. Two full bathroom and a clean kitchen that offers pretty much anything needed to cook. A pretty good variety of restaurants does exist within a ten minute walking including Cafe Palacios, which serves the best Peruvian coffees that I have had in my almost three years of travelling the country.
