- Keith (9/5): Clean, nice location with sea views, lovely host. - Steffi was lovely and took great pains to make our stay enjoyable, including picking up some walking poles from the sports store for use on our arrival and recommending all sorts of activities which avoided the worse of the crowds. The bed was very hard for us but that’s a personal thing. Access and parking is tight. You’d need to be a confident driver.

- Ute (8/5): - Die Lage und die Aussicht sind -wie beschrieben- wirklich schön und ruhig oberhalb des Ortes, in dem es (nur) zwei große Hotels und zahlreiche Restaurants (Restaurantbesuche sind überraschend günstig!) am Hafen gibt. Der Supermarkt ist klein und quirlich, versorgt aber mit allem Notwendigen. Wir hatten das letzte der drei "Reihenhäuser" mit einem kleinen Gartenanteil und Terrasse, auf der man bis spät am Abend auch im Oktober noch sitzen konnte. Auf dem Grundstück gibt es nette und außergewöhnliche Details, so zum Beispiel eine Doppel-Schaukel hoch oben über dem Meer. Gleich vorab: Unsere Erwartungen waren Hinblick auf die guten Bewertungen, die Bilder und den Preis hoch. Zudem hatten wir keinen guten Urlaubsstart, (was nichts mit der Unterkunft zu tun hatte!), so dass ein "Ankommen im Urlaub" schwierig war. Unabhängig davon meinen wir jedoch, dass die Unterkunft bzw. die Vermieter ihrem eigenen Maßstab nicht (mehr) umfassend gerecht werden. Zwar wurde der Reklamation (defekte Kaffeemaschine) sofort nachgegangen, auffällig ist jedoch, dass die Anlage und auch unsere Wohnung zwar sauber, aber nicht mehr gepflegt erscheinen. Alle weißen Lackmöbel waren angestoßen oder rissig, der Sofabezug war arg mitgenommen (fleckig), die Herdplatte gesprungen, die Sitzauflagen der Außenstühle waren eigentlich für Hochlehner und daher viel zu groß. Viele der Stufen der tollen "schwebenden" Treppe in den Schlafbereich bewegten sich so deutlich nach unten, wenn sie betreten wurden, dass wir eng an der Wand entlang gingen. All das passt nicht zu einer 5-Sterne -Design-Unterkunft. In dem schön gestalteten und sauberen Badbereich befindet sich die Toiletten in einer Art Duschkabine hinter Klar!glas und ist aufgrund der offenen Bauweise der Wohnung auch vom EG und der Treppe einsehbar. Die für eine Toilette übliche Intimssphäre kann es daher nur geben, wenn der Urlaubspartner das Haus verlässt. Das haben wir als sehr störend empfunden. Die Liegen am Poolbereich mit schöner Aussicht sind sehr deutlich verdreckt (Stock?) und unansehnlich. Fazit: Die Lage an der Südküste ist super! Die Wunderschöne grüne Nordseite ist gut erreichbar. Ebenso die Wandergebiete. Wir waren vor rund 8 Jahren bereits auf Madeira und wollte wegen der Naturschönheiten noch einmal dorthin. Seither hat sich der Tourismus auf der Insel aber deutlich verändert. Alle besonderen Wanderungen sind (wohl aufgrund eines Hypes auf Instagram) derart überfüllt, dass wir die Besuchsversuche abgebrochen haben. Eine Wanderin sprach treffend von Ameisenstraße...

- Ralf (10/5): Sehr schöne und gemütliche Unterkunft - Der Blick war fantastisch. Die Brandung war schön zu hören. Die Gastgeber waren sehr sehr nett. Wir haben bei der Ankunft eigene Bananen bekommen.. Für Silvester war Sekt im Kühlschrank. Bei schlechtem Wetter viele Möglichkeiten (z.B. deutsches Fernsehen). Sehr gepflegte Anlage. Die Ausstattung der Wohnung lässt keine Wünsche offen. Das Bett war super bequem. Tolle 10 Tage ...... Die Wegbeschreibung bei booking.com ist falsch.

- Jan (9/5): - Great room/house, nicely furnished and with a fully stacked kitchen. The staff was super helpful and nice (and with the help of Google Translate) the communication was pleasant. The views are great and the apartment is spacious with fast WiFi If your rental car has a week engine (~50 kW), the hill from the house to the main road can be a challenge needing some clutch sacrifice, but the housekeeper was very nice and drove us up the hill with our laguage on our check-out.

- Torsten (10/5): Wir kommen wieder! - Traumhafte Lage in sehr schönem Appartement. Wir haben uns rundum wohl gefühlt und das Ambiente der Anlage sehr genossen. Steffi, die Gastgeberin, ist jederzeit mit hilfreichen Tipps zu Wanderungen und Lokalen zur Stelle. Alles ist genau so schön wie auf den Fotos! Nichts!
- Guenter (9/5): Schön gestaltete Anlage mit wunderbaren Plätzen zum Erholen. - Die Lage der Quinta Golfinho direkt über dem Meer ist wunderbar, der Garten und insbesondere die Sunset Lounge mit Blick über die Küste und auf den Atlantik sind ein Traum. Die Zufahrt zum Grundstück ist allerdings nichts für schwache Nerven (eng und steil). Die drei versetzt gebauten Häuser sind sehr geschickt angelegt (viel Privatsphäre), sehr geschmackvoll gestaltet und gut ausgestattet. Die Einfahrt und die Parksituation. Etwas unbequem ist das ständige Treppensteigen, z.B. ist die Toilette zusammen mit dem Bad natürlich nur im 1. Stock gelegen und man muss auch mitdenken, welche Gegenstände man unten und oben braucht oder eben oft laufen. Insgesamt aber ein Luxusproblem und man weiß ja auch vorher, dass die Unterkunft über 2 Stockwerke geht.

Die Wohnung selber ist hochwertig ausgestattet und sehr großzügig konzipiert. Gastgeber kümmern sich sehr liebevoll um die Gäste. Wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt. Chats qui ont fait le bonheur de ma fille. Très bien équipé. Un vrai rêve. Tout était parfait en général. Comme détails, peut être un deuxième ventilateur portatif pour le confort. Quelques oreillers supplémentaires.La route d’accès est éprouvante la première fois mais on s’y habitue!
- Mandy (10/5): „Ein Ort, den man nur ungern verlässt“ - Diese Unterkunft ist ein Geschenk. Unser Apartment hatte eine traumhafte Aussicht über das Meer, oft saßen wir einfach nur da und haben den Blick genossen. Der Pool war an vielen Tagen nur für uns allein – herrlich ruhig. Besonders angenehm: Hier gibt es nur wenige Apartments, man entkommt völlig dem Massentourismus. Die Gastgeber sind herzlich, aufmerksam und einfach sympathisch. Alles ist sehr sauber, gepflegt und liebevoll gestaltet. Für mich steht fest: Wer hier keine 10 Punkte vergibt, sucht nur das Haar in der Suppe! - omar (10/5): Quinta Golfinho una chicca con vista sull'oceano. - La struttura è in una posizione incantevole, è davvero accogliente, gli appartamenti sono ben curati, funzionali, ben accessoriati, e con un splendida vista sull'oceano. La loro pulizia è di alto livello. La piscina è impeccabile, con un bellissimo lettino a due piazze sospeso sotto un gazebo, oltre ai numerosi lettini disponibili. Il luogo è estremamente tranquillo e silenzioso. Il giardino è bellissimo, pulito e molto curato, circondato dai bananeti, tipica cultura della zona. La posizione a due minuti di auto da numerosi ristoranti e da un fornito supermarket vicino alla marina di Calheta è molto comoda. La disponibilità di parcheggio auto riservato è un plus che sull'isola non è per nulla scontato, anzi molto gradito. Steffi e Alex sono davvero cordiali e premurosi, nonché attenti ad ogni eventuale necessità dei loro ospiti. Ci hanno dato preziosi consigli su come muoverci sull'isola e su cosa andare a visitare nei dintorni. Direi proprio che è da consigliare. Attenzione alla stradina di accesso, che è pavimentata ma decisamente ripida... comunque dopo il secondo giorno ci si fa l'abitudine.

- Sharon (8/5): Beautiful location. Beware the steep drive. - Beautiful location, surroundings, grounds and facilities. Felt very relaxed staying at one with nature here. Gorgeous sunset lounge area and our balcony and deck was gorgeous. Apartment very comfortable and modern. The driveway. Its incredibly steep. My 1.2engine hire car stuggled. I advise a more powerful car and lots of confidence. We parked at the top each day and trekked down. Also didnt like all the ants on the work tops in the apartment. My friends are not cat lovers so didnt like the owners friendly cats coming into the apartment but i didnt mind this.

- Andrew (9/5): Fabulous stay at Quinta Golfinho - The location is fabulous. Beautiful garden, stunning view over the sea. And a really quiet hidden away spot. Our apartment was great too, with a generous terrace seating/dining area as well as inside lounge/diner. Alex and Steffi were wonderful hosts, and the option to have a fresh bread delivery each morning was a surprise and delight. While we were there the owners were having a guest laundry built - although there was some construction noise during the day this didn't really spoil our stay, and it'll be useful when it's finished! Beware - the access road is VERY steep 😀
- Damien (10/5): Nice and pleasant stay in beautiful area - We rent the villa Palmeira for 2 people. It is a very Nice and pleasant Villa with amazing view on the Ocean. Very quiet: there is no noise during the day and the night. The villa is well equiped, nothing is missing. Garden is beautiful. Steffi and Alexander are very nice people, always ready to support us. If we come back on Madeira Island we will choose again this villa and we will recommend it. Nothing
- Nicole (10/5): A home away from home - It was a very lovely stay with a clean, modern rooms and generous equipment (e.g. Dishwasher). The whole complex lies surrounded by lush green banana plants and has a stunning view towards the ocean, a swing was recently installed which we loved. Moreover the hosts were very friendly and gave useful recommendations. A cherry on top for every animal lover are the chicken and cats strolling around. You have to be aware that Madeiras street are steep and so is the driveway. So it takes a bit of practice to handle the parking ;) If you are not experienced you might have to park on the upper street.

The garden is beautiful and the sunset lounge is a wonderful spot to have your coffee in the morning or a drink in the evening. Steffi and Alex are great and take Steffi’s advice about tracking on the island, she knows all the tracks…what is worth, where to start from where to stop to eat… Much was said about the way you access the villa and how steep the road is. Well, it is steep but that is Madeira… a lot of roads are like that and coming from a flat city can be intimidating but is part of the experience😊 Thank you Steffi for the bananas! Absolutely delicious! There was no wifi signal in the second bedroom. No big deal for us as we came back late every evening, but if you go with teenagers…be aware😊
- Aap (9/5): Spectacular views, swimming pool, private comfort with a rocky steep access route - The pool is a great bonus to an otherwise lovely place to stay. The access route contains about 100m of very steep narrow concrete road that one had to be able to drive to park close to the accommodation. Good driving skills are a must!!

- Boer (10/5): We highly recommend staying here for a week! - The apartment with two bedrooms/two bathrooms were exceptional in comfort and cleanliness. You cannot beat the ocean view from the terrace, especially when the dolphins swim by and the only noise is the rustling of the banana tree leaves. The kitchen is fully equipped and the showers are even nicer than we have at home. The hosts are available if you need them and you'll hardly notice other guests. This is the place to be for an off the beaten path, peaceful holiday. Beautiful beaches and walks are close by. We never drove more than hour and explored the entire island. We loved everything and would definitely come back. The only heads up we'd like to give is that is an insanely steep driveway. As long as you know that, you'll quickly get the hang of it. Definitely rent a car with horse power and unless you drive a manual (stick shift) on a regular basis you may want to rent a car with automatic transmission. Madeira has the steepest, narrowest roads we've ever been on. Having said that, the road infrastructure with the tunnels are top notch.
- Michiel (10/5): Perfect apartment with a sublime view!!! - Steffi and Alex are very friendly and speak perfect English and German. They are happy to accommodate your requests (should you have any). The apartment is fantastic and the view is truly sublime. You can look out over the ocean from the lazy couch on the terrace. During breakfast we were surprised by a group of dolphins jumping through the water. Steffi pointed this out to us! Fantastic!!! 'Golfinho' means dolphin in Portuguese. Now we know why it's called 'Quinta Golfinho'! There is nothing to complain about, except perhaps the steep driveway to Quinta Golfinho. But that depends more on our driving skills than on the driveway. Steffi pointed out a stone to us: place it behind your rear wheel before you drive up.... Then you won't slide backwards if you are less good at driving... Thanks for the tip and for the great stay!

- Anna (10/5): Beautiful, serene and so relaxing. - The villa is pure luxury, everything you could possible want for a relaxing holiday. Every possible way has been made to ensure fantastic views of the sea and wonderful laid out gardens are there for all. Steffi and Alex are fabulous hosts constantly working to keep the complex clean and looking its best. The bonus was a lovely bottle of bubbly on our arrival which set the tone for what was a beautifull time at Quinta Golfinto. If youre like me and have an automatic car and ride a motorcycle the steep road to the villa is a challenge but nothing that can't be mastered.

- Rebecca (10/5): Unique paradise near Calheta - We had an absolutely marvelous week at Quinta Golfinho. This little paradise lies hidden on the cliffs between the banana palms. On (15 min) walking distance of the harbor of Calheta. We loved (the herbs from) the garden, the cleanliness and comfort of the apartment, the nice bathrooms and showers, the amazing view at the sea, the dolphins in the distance, and the warm welcome+restaurant suggestions of the owners. Some practical comments: the owners invite guests above 10 years, very nice for couples/friends without kids, and also a good thing since not all terraces and sidewalks are toddler proof. We also loved the stylish musquito nets in front of the bedroom and side windows (even though the place was surprisingly low in musquitos anyway). It is all designed very clever and with good eye for detail. In our apartment the bedrooms are behind eachother, but in case you are with two couples; your bathroom is connected to your room, so no problems with nightly toilet breaks. And with 10 steps outside, you are in the living room without waking up anyone else. Everything is perfect, and the pictures dont lie at all. There are comments on the road in some reviews. Indeed, the road to the premise is quite impressive the first time, but after one drive, you will see that it is really nothing to worry about. And the hidden spot, even though just a minute away from the main road, makes it totally quiet and serene. There are enough well sized parking places for all apartments. Perhaps, if it is possible, a bit more leveling out the driveway at the bottom would make the parking even more convenient, especially on your first day adapting to Madeira roads and rental car.

- David (9/5): Contemporary Apartment with a stunning view - Stunning views, very well equipped, contemporary apartment. Steffi was really friendly and helpful. The approach to the property is by a very steep track which is poorly maintained. One taxi driver was reluctant to attempt it and dropped us off at the top of the track. The path leading to the apartment is unfenced and has a drop of several metres- we would have felt a lot happier if the rail at the start of the path was extended. While the bathroom has a fantastic shower and also lovely fittings it has an open aspect where the toilet is surrounded by glass and is open to the top of the stairs.

- Susan (10/5): Peaceful,comfortable and spacious apartment in a sunny location - Modern, comfortable and clean, spacious apartment .Well- equipped kitchen and comfortable beds. This apartment is in a peaceful location with amazing sea and coast views in one of the sunniest areas of Madeira. Private outside areas, interesting gardens and the communal pool area is well maintained with views over the sea .There is also a stunning sunset lounge with a swing seat and comfortable chairs to watch the sun go down The accommodation is within 5 minutes drive of a large supermarket and several good quality restaurants and the host can arrange for daily delivery of fresh bread. Steffi is a very friendly and knowledgable host and replied quickly to messages before our arrival. Excellent directions from the airport too. Would highly recommend Not a criticism, but a car is really necessary to get the most out of this property.
