Guest Reviews
- Agnes (8/5): Für 2-3 Nächte ganz ok. - Heisswasserpool im Garten. Sehr freundlicher Gastgeber.
- Vilém (10/5): - The accommodation at Dalvík Vegamot Cottages was very pleasant. Communication with the owner was great — he was very kind and helpful. We arrived later in the evening, and late check-in was not a problem after prior arrangement. When we arrived, a heated hot tub and a pre-warmed sauna were waiting for us.
The cottage itself does not have a shower, but the owner gave us access to one in the old “Farmers House,” about 10 meters away.
Overall, I can highly recommend it. One thing to keep in mind is that the accommodation is located right next to the main road, opposite the Olís gas station and close to a football field, so it can be a bit noisy at times.

- Martinus (10/5): - We stayed for four night and really enjoyed our time at Dalvik and the comfortable Cabin. We used the jacuzzi and saw northern lights from there. The host (Bjarni) is a very welcoming person and told us al kinds of interesting things about Dalvik and surroundings.

- Liz (10/5): Cozy cottage - great place for a relaxing stay - It was warm and cozy in the cottage - it had everything you needed but was not cluttered - the host was very sociable and kept us up to date with what was happening during our stay - Dalvik is a great place to spend time with things to do locally and easy to go to interesting places from
- Annemarie (8/5): -
- Clément (10/5): Perfect spot to go to Grimsey - Bjerni, the cottage, the hot tube and sauna almost private! The location near a parking hotel / playground and a road isn’t the most idilic but ok
- Ede (10/5): - Like a home-from-home; lovely welcome from the host; near the harbour; able to park next to the door; useful kitchenette
Tak sme spali hore my, rodičia, .dobrodružstvo nečaká! Horúca vaňa a sprcha s čerstvou geotermálnou vodou. Jooooj! To chcete zažiť! My chceme. Vrátime sa. A nezabudnite v reštaurácii u Bjarniho ochutnať najlepšiu rybacou polievku na svete.... mňam😋! TAKK! ....a teraz uz nebudem mat možnosť sa tam vratit, lebo bude vždy obsadené, nemal som to písať....🫣
- francesca (10/5): - La struttura è accogliente e super relax nella hot tub esterna
- Chidanand (9/5): Enjoyed the stay at Dalvik Vegamot Cottages - Nice cosy little cottages with all you require in the center of Dalvík. Value for money. Very pleasant host(Bjarni). Gave us briefing of the area and Iceland in general. Very informative. Everything within walking distance (supermarket, coffee shop, gas station, port from were the boat goes for whale watching etc Nothing in particular
Alles okay.

- judit (4/5): disappointing - The area is nice, recommended for northern excursions. We were very disappointed. The house is far too small and not comfortable for 4 people. The listing advertises accommodation for 4 guests and shows 2 bedrooms, but in reality there is only one proper bedroom, and the second "bedroom" is actually a very tiny, cramped loft space connected directly to the main bedroom. This is extremely misleading! Two people had to sleep in the loft, where there were only uncomfortable mattresses. The space was airless and difficult to ventilate.
The bathroom was unusably small. The kitchen was poorly equipped, with a dangerously worn-out frying pan. The whole house was overcrowded with old furniture, leaving no room for storage of luggage or clothes. In addition, there was a musty smell throughout the house and it was dusty, which caused our child with dust allergies to suffer throughout the nights.
I honestly do not understand the previous reviews. The listing is misleading, and the price–value ratio is very poor. We have been to Iceland several times and stayed at about 10–12 different accommodations, all of which were wonderful experiences — unfortunately, this place was the one exception.
- Linda (9/5): A very nice and cosy cottage. - The host was really helpful and friendly. The cottage was as cosy as expected. We had an electric car and there is a charging station just across the street..
- Vaida (9/5): Superb -
- Yundong (9/5): Superb - The host is very nice and friendly, he welcome us at the cottages even we arrive quite late, the cottage is small with basic cooker to prepare very simple food, but have no shower inside, the host is so nice and show me around his coffee shop and theater on the second floor, very old fashsion and loverly. No shower inside the cottage
- Eyrún (7/5): Good - Cozy

- Aleix (10/5): Perfect -
- Lucka (10/5): Exceptional - We visited Dalvík for Erasmus project in March 2025 and the cottages were stunning. Absolutely wonderful Bjarni who welcomed us with such an enthusiasm and positive energy. Clean and quiet place with magical view on the sea and mountains. Recommended!
- Eric (10/5): A quaint mini spa in a Dalvik garden. - The old farmhouse was quaint and delightful! I enjoyed the hot tub and a nice sauna as well. The farmhouse is quite well equipped with Bluetooth audio a full kitchen, kettle and coffee maker. My stay was very comfortable. I would book again 100%! I must also share that the communication from the owner Barnji was fantastic. He is an engaging fellow and I regret that I didn’t have more time to chat before my scheduled whale watch on departure day. I loved everything.. it was quiet, comfortable and the garden hot tub and sauna were amazing.
- Doug (9/5): Awesome Property & Owner in Dalvík - Owner, hot tub Nothing
- Berglind (10/5): Exceptional -
- Angelo (8/5): Very good - nice and kind host
- Vlada (10/5): Super warm experience! The host is very welcoming and friendly! Would stay again! - Nice, cozy and neat cottage, superb surrounding area, amazing host
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional - Wow, That was a warm welcome!
The owner is a very polite and funny gentleman who made this the first 10/10 of my journey.
We booked with own toilet only for a very good price. We could decide for a warm shower in the garden or in the hostel.
The pool was warm and he also started the sauna. I enjoyed the shower in the garden & sauna & pool. We had the luck, that the northern lights could be seen, while relaxing in on the pool
- Tinna (8/5): Very good -
- Marco (10/5): Excellent experience. - Beautiful old house well refurbished, with comfortable beds. It also offers sauna and tub. The owner is very friendly, with a lot of interests and suggestions of possible activities and places to visit. Beautiful experience.
- Isabel (9/5): Our host was so accomodating nothing was a hassle from setting up the bbq, to showing us the hostel and also his great l - The property is located in the quaint town of Dalvik. Perfect place to do the whale watching tour. Hot tub was a hit after a long day. We even got to experience the northern lights one night. Didn’t have a shower we had to drive to the hostel which was close by, wasn’t a big issue for us.
- Valgerður (9/5): Superb -
- Sigurjon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Josephine (7/5): Good - The cottage is fine, is good for a night stay if you're not looking for luxury. No shower in the cottage.
- Grelinette (10/5): Exceptional - We liked the sauna right after the outdoor hot bath. The cottage is really charming. The setting and the region are splendid.
We didn't use the kitchen because there was an excellent restaurant in Dalvík (á Gregor's) and we had lunch the next day in Akureyri (only 30 minutes from the accommodation).
- Slobodan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Luca (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gudni (7/5): Good -
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional - Very romantic old cottage with a whirlpool with thermal water. The host was very friendly and kind. The whale watching center is a 5 minute walk from the cottage.
- Berglind (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hafdís (10/5): Best survise ever 😃 - Werry cosy 😃 Wuld have liked to have shower 😃
- Peter (10/5): Authentic Iceland Hospitality at its best! - Very cozy! Bjarni and his family are the best hosts ever. They will do anything they can to make you trip the best including turning on the hot tub in a blizzard and entertaining you with stories! When the weather was challenging and everything was closed due to storm and Easter holiday, Bjarni still will make it a comfortable as possible.
- Damiano (10/5): If you are traveling to North Iceland this is the place you have to stay at. Great place and amazing host. -
- Luca (10/5): Really nice host and cottages! - Bjarni was treating us very well. Everything that wasn’t available, he brought over in no time and also helped us with everything. Really nice and easygoing hosts. Awesome hottub and Sauna. Can also highly recommend to visit their restaurant just a couple meters away. Also ask him about Jürgen Klopp ;) you will feel welcome here!
- Elizabeth (10/5): Best place in the North! - One of our favorite stops! We stayed in the old farmhouse, which has heated floors making it extremely comfy in winter. The hot tub and sauna were wonderful in the cold as well. Bjarni was incredibly nice and very friendly, he made our stay very pleasant and even helped make sure we were informed that our whale watching tour had changed to a different departure location. He showed us around the old movie theater when we went by his cafe. We felt super welcome and had a really enjoyable stay in a very nicely appointed cottage!
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional -

He showed me where things are located in the area. Beautiful town!! Very comfortable lodging and best location for people who wants to travel to Grímsey and the Geothermal area. Nothing, it was perfect!!
- Bjarni (10/5): Cozy cottage in Dalvik - Cozy cottage. Friendly staff. Amazing hot tub and sauna in the garden to experience northern lights if you are lucky.
- Ólafsdóttir (2/5): Very poor -
- Anneliese (10/5): It was great! The host ist very friendly, helpfully and humorous! Thanks a lot -
- Ivan (10/5): Very nice experience - Very nice small wooden cabin perfect for experiencing Dalvik, great location, clean room, great and friendly host Toilet a bit small but it was clean, correct and working. After all, its a cabin and not large hotel
- Stephen (10/5): Close to Grimsey island ferry - Located about one km from ferry boat to Grimsy island. Nice individual cabin with lots of kitchen facilities.
- Dmitry (10/5): We very much enjoyed our stay. - Very nice, cozy and private cottage. Comfortable bed, good kitchenette, private bathroom. Outdoor shower was a bit surprising and novel, but both of us definitely enjoyed it. Views are fabulous, so is the hot tub. Owners are very helpful and informative. Everything was fine.
- Irina (9/5): Superb - Very nice location! Peaceful and quiet, clean, sauna and hot tub was just amazing addition to that! The host is very nice and welcoming ☺️ The cottage was very tiny, super small toilet and no shower inside, just outside near the hot tub. For is (group of 3) it was fine 100%, but we stayed only for 1 night. Maybe if we’d need more days - that would be a problem 😁
- Astrid (10/5): Wonderful time out! - Bjarni is a lovely and welcoming host. The place is very cosy and sweet and the hot tub and the sauna in the garden are fantastic.
We got some food to go at his restaurant - the Kaffihus (best fishsoup ever!) - and ate it on our porch!
Perfect stay - we will be back for sure!
- Hjálmar (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jillian (10/5): Perfect stay! - This was the perfect stay! My husband and I stayed for 2 nights during our honeymoon in one of the cottages and it was our favorite place by far during our whole 3 week trip. The room is adorable and cozy and had everything we needed to make ourselves breakfast in the morning. The bed was super comfortable and a double (not 2 twins which we’ve mostly experienced traveling on a budget in Iceland… pretty funny on your honeymoon!). The hot tub outside next to the outdoor shower and barrel sauna was SUCH a treat, perfectly hot and so welcome after a freezing cold/wet day ferrying out to Grímsey island. And the value for the room is amazing, and not just by Iceland standards!
More than anything though the host Bjarni is just about the nicest human we’ve ever met. He was so accommodating and generous from the second we booked the room months before our trip until when we arrived in Dalvík. It felt like he was catering to us personally which we know can’t be true because he also manages a 40 bed hostel down the road AND runs the little cafe in town! He showed us around his cafe the morning we left and it’s super charming with tons of history, we wish we could have stayed and enjoyed some of his famous fish soup. We loved listening to his stories about the characters he’s had at the cafe (True Detective filmed their 4th season there!). And it sounds like the “eat free fish” festival in August is quite the event!
Also want to give a shout out to Dalvík in general, super charming little seaside town and a great break from the hustle and bustle of the ring road. It’s well worth the detour, check out the beer bath (Drink beer while bathing in beer?! Hell yeah) and be sure to make it out to Grímsey to see just an unbelievable amount of birds and a really interesting tiny island community.
10/10 all around, we will absolutely be back!
- Jukka (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful host. Cozy cabin.
- Gabriel (9/5): Definitely yes for originality. - Lovely hot tub and quite comfy cabin, owner is super friendly and helped a lot. It s true that the fish soup at his cafe was superb, also the staff at the cafe We had our shower outside which was ok, maybe others won t like it, the cabin has a toilet but not a shower which is available nearby we were told.
- Thorsteinn (10/5): Outstanding - Great host, location and the condition and type of property. Very need town. Everything was great
- Pawel (10/5): Excellent, but expensive. - Really everything. Very nice place. Pay attention while booking: some cottages don't have a shower. The shower is outside, shared, with no privacy, really just a hose with hot water attached to a tree. For me that was fine. But I imagine some people may expect a fully equipped bathroom at this price.
- Joi76 (9/5): Will definitely stay there again - Small, cozy, everything we needed was there.
Good value for the money.
Clean cottage and hot tub was always available to us even if shared with the other cabins.
The host was very friendly and accommodating.
Pets are allowed, so I was able to bring my 🐦 there 😁 Some white noise coming from the water running into the hot tub, but it didn't bother us. It did block the small amount of traffic noises, so in a way it's a positive thing. I believe the other two cottages don't have that noise.
Ofcourse it would have been nice to have a private shower by the cabin, but the alternatives were good enough.
- Rannveig (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fabian (7/5): Lovely host and cozy cottage with hot tub, sauna, and outdoor shower. - Host was very friendly and welcoming. the little cottages are quite cozy and are warm even if it’s cold outside. Hot tub and sauna are definitely a big plus ( particularly because the host allowed us to use it all day/night) as well as a well equipped kitchen (very good pan). everything was clean. no shower except outdoors next to the hot tub (it was -3 to -6 degrees during our stay). The host told us we could also use the showers in the hostel down the road though (we went to the hot tub and the swimming pool in Hofsos on one of our days there so we did not need it). If you’re staying longer in winter this reduces the comfort a bit I reckon.
There is only light from the main lamp in the room, no additional lamps next to the bed or so.
cold air comes in through the toilet, so try to keep the door shut.
the cottages are next to the main road and a petrol station which is not super noisy but maybe not what you might expect (although it is clear from the map). not a big issue (no one to blame here) for a few nights though.
in our cottage (the one next to the main road) you can here the water recycling system in the hot tub quite a bit which runs all night. we could still sleep without issues but might be an issue for some people. When we asked the host, he was very friendly and turned it off in the evening, so just ask if it’s too noisy.
- Auður (9/5): Superb -
- Daníel (8/5): Very good -
- B.m.s.1 (9/5): Superb - Host super friendly. Great location. Comfy beds. The sauna and hot tub were available at all times and were in high quality. Access to showers limited. Limited space in the cottage with 3 beds, super small bathroom.
- Dawn (10/5): perfect location.to ski the local slopes and visit the beer spa! - the thermal underfloor heating made it very cosy
- Van (10/5): Exceptional - The hospitalitty of the owner. He is a real viking. .
- Lenka (10/5): Special place to stay :) - Staying at Vegamot Cottage was unforgettable experience. The owner - Bjorni is such a nic guy, who gave us more than accomodation - many recommendations, map with attractions, road tips made by him and so on. In case of cottage... there is nothing what we consider as a bad experience.
Next the cottage is also hot tube, sauna, nature shower with geothermal water with constant 40degrees. Everything is including.
Dalvik is such a beautiful harbor city, where I would like to move and stay there for rest of my life :-D Everything was perfect! :)

The owner Byarni (spelling ?) was very friendly and worked exceptionally hard at keeping his guests happy and informed us on the local attractions. They also own/manage a local restaurant that serves the best fish soup in Iceland. Nothing
