Guest Reviews
- Dejan (10/5): - Good mattress, clean sheets, and enough privacy for a hostel dorm. The dorm is big divide it in sections, all of them are mix with hot water in the shower, they provide you all the basic stuff. Beds are sturdy and comfortable, with convenient power outlet. Cctv on the commun areas and outside the bathroom/shower section.
The hostess provides you all the information.
The two small dogs are friendly. They bark while you are outside, but are very calm once you enter.
- Magellan (1/5): A single night in that false hostel was too much. - To leave after the first night, even If I have booked for a week It's not a hostel but just a corridor with 16 beds and a single chair. Maria arrived at the same time as me and it reeked of the urine of her 2 dogs who barked constantly. A camera is trained on the men's bathroom and the last bunk bed. I told her that it was illegal to film a bathroom. Maria replied that she was filming the sink. There is no shared kitchen because it is only her very cluttered personal kitchen, she made a little space for me in her refrigerator. After 8 p.m., the kitchen is closed, at which time there is only one chair and a children's picnic table for the occupants of the 16 beds. There is no common space or sofa. At night, I turn off my cell phone so as not to disturb others, even if I was alone. Maria sent me a message at 11:32 p.m. to turn off the bathroom light, she texted me at 11:42 p.m. that she had come to close it. This lighting was used to guide me at night. If I wanted to take a beer, I had to sit in his old truck parked in front of the hostel, I didn't do. Handling the steel front door is dangerous for the fingers because the 2 heavy sections fold. I had booked for a week and checked out after the first night. I found much better for the same price. Do not book at this place because it is not a hostel, nor a recommendable place.

- Alexander (4/5): This is not a welcoming hostel. You've got better options. - Location was acceptable.
- Lingbin (10/5): - Maria is Bilingual,attentive and hospitable.
- Jacob (9/5): I was the only person at the hostel and had a peaceful and quiet experience at the lodging. - Very nice staff and a great location in town. It was easy to get to the beach and the owner gave great suggestions for restaurants and even tours in the area. I would stay here again.
- Marie (8/5): -
- Emil Cornelis (10/5): Maria is helpful, you’ll make friends with the dogs - This hostel Aabilo’ob is just perfectly located close to central , chedraui market , fridas bar resteraunt with great michoaladas and rewarded with ceviche, nachos, jicama calienne sticks, , , the host is very accommodating,, suggestive!! It is fantastic
- Steph (7/5): Basic Hostel stay - Owner María was pleasant and friendly.
Great location, clean bathroom and beds. Decent value for price. Only hostel in town. No common area, no kitchen or fridge access after 8pm. AC only after dark.
- Walter (9/5): My first time in Progreso, and a hostel, I found the place clean well kept. Marie was very friendly And helpful - Location, there are a few local restaurants and was a 10 min walk to the beach. I thought the price value was outstanding
- Steven (6/5): Good location and close to Malecon and market - Good price and close to Malecón and Aki market Lack of washroom and slow water
- Sylviane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lindsay (8/5): Comfortable and saw lots of things in Progreso. - The breakfast facilities are good. Maria the hostel manager was very helpful with great suggestions of activities to see. Reserva ecological el Corchito with cenotes and Dunas Chuburna west coast of Progreso. N/a
- Nils (10/5): Exceptional - Nice Hosts, very clean, close to the beach After the booking the owner will send you some "restrictions". These are understandable to avoid a special kind of customers I think, butbif you ready them First everything Sounds very hard
- Kayla (10/5): Very clean and quiet hostel in walking distance of the beach in Progreso, as well as close to grocery stores and anythin - Very clean, quiet, comfortable
- Vojtab (8/5): Very good - The staff - lady is a good person and gives you many informations. In general good place for a good price! I recommend. No shared room in the sense of "living room". The kitchen opens at like 7:30 am and closes at +/- 8 pm.
- Lowell (7/5): Good -
- Zsazsa (3/5): Poor -
- Natalia (8/5): Very good - The owner of the hostel is a fantastic person with a wealth of knowledge about the region who is always willing to share. The hostel has a very charming atmosphere and is close to the beach
- Danilo (6/5): Overall ok but a few annoying little things - The owner was friendly
She had good recommendation for what you can do.
It was all very clean There is absolutely nobody at the reception until 2PM. I thought I could drop of my stuff and check in later like in literally every other hostel I've ever stayed in, but, no.
The 3 dorm are all connected. There's frames where doors used to be busy just no door. Also there is a is an open square in the wall pretty far up between all the dorms. So if there is just one person snoring, that could be enough.
Also the day I left I made sure my stuff is packed up and out of the room before the check out time. But that also doesn't matter cause if you want to stay longer just on that day ( cause for example your bus is leaving in the afternoon) or if you just want to leave your luggage there, your deposit is gone. And if you want to stay longer than 4 PM the same day there is an extra charge again.
Also there where lot of little and extra rules when you get the tour/ do the check in.
So nothing was actually bad..it where just a lot of little things that added up to being pretty annoying.
Also the owner is cooking I'm the same kitchen as you are if that's important for you.
I was feeling more like a roommate than a guest.
And also it didn't really feel like a hostel.

- Parminder (10/5): Áabilo’ob Hostel is an absolute gem! - Áabilo’ob Hostel is an absolute gem! Just a short stroll from the beach, this cozy and welcoming place has everything you need for a perfect stay. The hostel itself is clean, comfortable, and has a wonderful, relaxed vibe that makes you feel at home immediately. The highlight, though, is the owner – a truly fantastic person who goes above and beyond to ensure every guest has an amazing experience. Whether you’re looking for local tips, good company, or just a peaceful retreat, Áabilo’ob Hostel has it all. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area!
- Monica (1/5): Bad -
- Rastislav (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hana (1/5): Worst of the worst. - Nothing to like The owner is a very rude woman, she acted as if she was doing us a favour, bathroom are stinky and full of feces, and there is a Camara facing the bathroom, so they can see you when U get naked. Kitchen extremely dirty. Beds are full of dust. The whole dorm had a vomit smell. She was really rude and even blamed us for "eating her food", which we didn't. Worst hostel we have ever stayed at. On top of it a solar battery disappeared from our belongings.
- Noel (1/5): Disaster, avoid - Nothing The daughter of the owner of the hostel robbed from us a MacBook Pro, and an iPhone, she also physically attacked my gf. The dogs are aggressive, and she will insult you if you try to prevent them from biting you. The cleaning woman enters the room at 7:00 AM and the music full volume on, and starts moving the beds around, and doing "cleaning", "cleaning" lasts till 12:00 noon, preventing you from taking a shower or sleep, and guarantees you pay another day just to take a shower. At 11 am, the cleaning woman will begin harrassing you, that you should pay another day (since she is in your room, remember?). The person in the pictures is the aggressive thief. We file a police report for the theft and aggression. We were the only guests at the place.
- Hill (10/5): Great value hostel! AC, wifi, shared kitchen and great hospitality. You will not be disappointed. - Exceptional value! Great location close to beach, malecon, restaurants, grocery store and bus station. Very clean, free drinking water, access to the kitchen to prepare your own groceries, air conditioned, and wifi. Hospitality and support was outstanding. There is nothing that I didn’t like as you can’t expect luxury accommodations but pay hostel rates.
- Kahar (10/5): Very happy to stay here - Everything was excellent Nothing bad
- Darren (10/5): Very nice hostel and a great value. Just a short walk to the beach and restaurants. -
- Silvana (3/5): Poor -
- Colin (10/5): Great value and welcoming hosts - Has everything you need and comfy beds Not too much available for eating nearby
- Patrick (9/5): A very clean and welcoming no-nonsense hostel in a good location. - No nonsense, INCREDIBLY CLEAN and welcoming hostel with comfy beds and everything you need. Maria was really nice and very helpful - gave me lots of tips of where to go. The hostel is in a VERY good location. I had a scooter and she locked it up for me which was very useful. Loved the two lovely dogs!! Nothing
- Shawn (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dallyn (10/5): Exceptional - Highly recommend this hostel. And will not hesitate to stay here again! The owner is very kind and helpful and is continually working on improvements to the property. Fresh linen and a towel! Is the cherry on the top. This is not a party hostel, so you can get a good night sleep. Thank you so much for the hospitality!
- Anna (9/5): Super cheap, clean with a good kitchen. - I stayed 5 days. The owner spoke English well. She allowed me to catch a glimpse of Mexican life. She made sure I was comfortable. Lovely dogs! Progreso is hot!
- Raphael (9/5): Superb - I had a deep cut in my foot the first day I went to the beach, Maria helped me a lot to clean it and take care of it the next few days.
Free drinking water No common room to relax or meet other guests.
- Wanda (1/5): Bad -
- Rachel (10/5): A good , friendly reasonable priced place I can easily imagine returning to - it was very well located near the center and the beach ‘ Oxxo around the corner. The owner was very helpful and friendly, it felt familiar to stay there.
- Jan (5/5): It was expensive for the facilities provided in comparison to other places that we stayed in in the - Marie was very helpful We didn't realize there was a shared bathroom/toilet.
- Clara (9/5): Everything okay for the price - Everything was good! Perfect for the price! The rooms doesn't have doors so you are more less sleeping with all hosters, but it's okay, everyone is respectful
- Ole (10/5): Exceptional - It has a nice atmosphere. Nothing.
- Léa (9/5): Superb - thank you for all the tips
- Kevin (10/5): I enjoyed meeting Maria and her pops and the travel tips and referral contact she gave me. Thankyou so much Maria. This - I liked that this is a family run business and that they are trying hard to please without dropping standards. For a hostel, it’s super clean, the mattresses are all of good orthopedic quality, the bunk beds are well built the air conditioning is not too cold. more like central air. (I can only speak for my bed) Well. I was the only one in the dormitory this night. I could of used a little company. That didn’t arrive till the next morning.
