Guest Reviews
- Andy (8/5): - Location was good for the reason of our visit. Staff friendly, we really enjoyed our evening meal. we didn't stay for breakfast as it didn't start until 10am and we needed to leave earlier.
- William (8/5): Lively, Loud and Lovely with a Wonderfully Warm Welcome. - On a long driving tour, visiting old haunts and the heroic airfields, in Lincolnshire I got tired and decided, mid afternoon, to get a bed for the night, a quick google search and the Fountain in Tuxford sprung up!
Great Value & Easy to book through booking.com, easier and even cheaper via the phone ⭐️ the welcome from Frenchie, Nanny P and the charming Ivy was rather humbling ⭐️ it was obvious that I was a mere secondary consideration as they lavished attention on FitzRoyBeagle (He got treats, a blanket and his own towel too!) SO DOG FRIENDLY! ⭐️
It was a lovely day, the place was very lively, great music, the garden was full of families having a great time, my room was above all that yet I still managed a good afternoon nap! Great Deep Bath too ⭐️
Nice dog walks nearby and I recommend the Steak From the evening menu, dining felt very familial, everyone was so friendly! ⭐️ It's now 2330 hours, the place has fallen wonderfully quiet and a great night's sleep is on the cards...
If it's a fun, lively, and welcoming family vibe you're after, with good grub, and a comfy bed this ticks all the boxes!
Free Parking!⭐️
Free WiFi ⭐️
Count the Stars. Such good value for much less than big name The Fountain is a great pub, a good restaurant, and a hotel, it combines all three in a relatively small building and though the staff make it work, each aspect suffers a little for that. it’s not the place for a romantic meal, nor a quiet getaway but the sum of the parts is greater than it should be.
It’s near the railway tracks and there is some noise from that.
- Hendrix (9/5): Friendly, helpful - The staff were so nice and friendly. Couldn't do enough for me. Really stood out, especially as a lone traveller. Good value for money It was all good
- Francisco (9/5): Staff were exceptionally welcoming and I really felt like I was at home. It was really nice experience. -
- Marcelo (10/5): - Amazing food and good bed
- Howarth (10/5): - Exceptional staff and great food. Fantastic value for money
- Leslie William (7/5): A pleasant stay - The House keeping staff. Noise at night from Landlords activities.
- Karen (6/5): - The staff were very friendly & welcoming.
The room was ok. The room was far too hot & the thermostat wouldn't lower the temperature. I was later told that the manager could access the thermostat remotely!!
I was above the pub & conservatory, so you could hear the music quite loudly & the people coming to the pub talking.
The room had a mirror that had icons lit up on it, which lit the room all night, so I had to put a towel over it to dim it and been able to sleep
- David (8/5): Enjoyable for our short stay, staff and customers friendly. - We did not have breakfast. The climb up the stairs with your luggage was rather steep.
- Anne (10/5): -
- Joseph (10/5): -
- Julia (9/5): Good, clean, comfortable room - Good room and ensuite. Small but had everything we needed and it was made nice and cosy. Sheets were lovely and soft and good pillows. It was all good! Nothing I can think of
- Suellen 1 (10/5): - As the resturant was closed , we were guided to order take out and theyd provide the plates and cutlery so it all worked out perfectly.
John smiths, open log fire and take away was brilliant
- Ruby (10/5): -
- john (10/5): -
- nigel (7/5): -
- Steph (8/5): Great for what I needed in an overnight stop - Lovely welcome, really comfy room, decent Wifi, and fabulous breakfast 😊 Bathroom in desperate need of refurbishment, and the shower was scolding hot and wouldn't go cooler.
- Eniola (8/5): - Environment and car pack Nothing
- Linda (8/5): - Good value for money, just needed somewhere to sleep as attending a local function. Staff very friendly.
- Keith (5/5): -
- Andrew (10/5): -
- Andy (8/5): Nice pub - Comfy bed plenty of pillows. Cracking shower. Nothing
- Ivan (1/5): Beware! Scam - Nothing to like at all! These guys are scammers. The hotel doesn't work. I don't know why they are still visible in booking.com.
- Aaron (10/5): - All of it very friendly staff very helpful delicious black and blue burger and super comfy bed The toilet was placed in maybe the wrong place for myself being a bigger person however I couldn't really fault it I enjoyed my stay and got very good value for my money and really nice staff food and great location for me not too busy
- George (2/5): I will never stay or recommend anyone to stay at this establishment. - NO breakfast provided Information on website that there would be no chef on duty on Mondays. Very annoying after a 16 hour working day and 200 km of travel to arrive to the bad news about no food being available.
- Gina (7/5): Opinion - Staff where Very friendly. Bed was very comfortable The Breakfast was excellent Very good value for money Needed a new seal around bath And room needed a vacume. No long mirror or light not good to do make up. But that's just my view. Any one on the small side wouldn't be able to see mirror in bedroom. No chain on plug made it very hard to get out.
- Janet (5/5): Not worth staying - Location and parking ok. To start with only barmaid to welcome us with no knowledge of breakfast or dinner. Went through pub up big flight of stairs with unsafe bannister. Our room was little bigger than a show box. Couldn’t move arms between shower and toilet wall. Told dinner would be served up to 8pm. Went down at 6 to a very noisy bar. Dining area not much quieter. Sat down at 7.10 had to ask barman to come take our order he wasn’t very happy felt like we put him out. Ordered 2 cold starters and got them 50mins later. Main meal lamb cutlets were tough and stringy. Wasn’t asked if we wanted dessert. Was told breakfast was at 10am came down at 9.55 and owner was mopping floor and hoovering kitchen was empty no suggestion of breakfast. Ended up leaving and going to local cafe. Overhaul we felt like we was intruding.
- tracy (9/5): Lovely place to stay - Staff were helpful and friendly and was comfortable. Was all fine
- Nigel (10/5): -
- Anjie (1/5): Dreadful, disappointing, not happy. - The housekeeper was lovely and friendly. Very poor quality hotel. Old and run down. More of a truckstop hotel. The rooms were tiny and with absolutely no character. We had a twin room. The beds were children's single beds, not adult single beds, so I couldn't turn over without falling out. My feet were a foot off the bed at the bottom and I'm only 5ft.9.
The walls had plaster filled holes in them, and stained. Unfinished decorating. An attempt at a wall mural was not even straight. The TV was the smallest tv I've ever seen and there was no remote control. The entrance to the hotel part of the pub looked like the tradesman entrance. On entering you walk passed the kitchen which smelt damp and awful. Such a poor quality hotel and I am annoyed I had to pay £80 for one night. Maybe £35 a night for truckers would be better. This was supposed to be a treat stopover, it wS anything but. There was an attached restaurant, which was closed on the night we stayed, so had to drive again to find food. Not happy. I really would only recommend this hotel to truckers. The housekeeper was lovely though, and friendly. Do not stop at this hotel if you want anything but very basic and bog standard.
- John (8/5): - It was cheap for last minute selection Arrived fairly late for one night leaving early however music went on until midnight in the pub downstairs.
- Olowu (8/5): display instructions on gadget use. no phone to re - N/A Room size
- Graham (9/5): The staff went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. They even drove us to and collected us from the wedding ve - Very helpful staff Medium sized room
- Anne (7/5): I stayed one night room facilities excellent good shower room biscuits with kettle/ coffee / tea - I did not have breakfast but I had dinner which was excellent well served fantastic value with gin cocktail Heavy duvet on a hot night difficult to sleep
- Angel (10/5): Had a lovely stay, lovely location, cute little pub - Great location (1 minute from the A1). Staff have all been really friendly and welcoming. Hotel is slightly tucked away from the main road. We rang up for late check in and was accommodated straight away, we were warned of a party but ended before 11. We were also warned about the noise of the trains but they’re very far and few between on an evening you don’t notice. The room was slightly warm and could have done with a fan
- Dipsytilly1324 (10/5): Lovely place to stay - We had a wonderful experience here. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, the food was delicious, and everything felt like great value for money. We stayed overnight and also arranged a buffet for a wake, both were handled with care and attention to detail.
The owner was exceptionally friendly and accommodating, and the housekeeper in the morning went above and beyond. Even making us drinks, which was a lovely touch.
The bedrooms were spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable.
Overall, everything was just right. We truly appreciated the hospitality and wouldn’t hesitate to return or recommend it to others.
- Laura (9/5): Superb - Freshly decorated, very clean room with a comfortable bed.
- Angela (8/5): Very good -
- Mark (10/5): Great hotel very helpful staff definitely stay again - Nice hotel very friendly staff
- James (7/5): Good - No annoying problems, but to be fair, I spent my evening working so what would I know...
The shower, while "simple" did not present the dreaded unstable temperature issue, or the "takes forever to get hot water" issue.
A big desk meant the ideal conditions for working late to solve problems before my site visit the next day.
Among the coffee options was a "cappuccino" option. ( Sure, not a real one, but I enjoyed it :)
On arrival I saw a tonne of cyclists. If you like bike riding, this appears to be something of a biking mecca. I'm easy going so I don't think any of this is an issue, however, others may want to consider this.
Depending on your room, you may overlook a train line. Having lived next to a train station before, I know its very easy to tune this out.
It's an old building, so my rooms was fairly "mundane", but it was clean, and everything worked.
I had no access to WiFi, although i didn't really need it, and my mobile signal was plenty good.
- Sophie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (8/5): Great price, fabulous service, great food. - Excellent food. Fabulous service from the staff. Free parking. Comfortable bed. No remotely for tv.
- Debbie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Moray (8/5): Very good - Friendly staff. Good sized bedroom (room4). Comfortable bed. The room would benefit from some redecoration (like painting the ceiling) and from better lighting.
If you are staying here and want to eat an evening meal, make sure you confirm what time they stop serving. I asked on arrival and was told 8pm, but when I went to order at 7:30, I was told the chef had stopped for the night. Consequently I had to go out to eat.
- Hansen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michele (8/5): Very accommodating, friendly, clean and quiet. - Lovely staff. Clean. Very welcoming. Undergoing renovations. A bit pricey for this time during renovations.
- Campbell (8/5): Great stay! - The room was clean, comfortable and warm Nothing
- Kay (7/5): We were in Tuxford for a funeral, so location was very good. Basic accommodation, but clean, definitely in need of an up - Location N/A
- James (6/5): Pleasant -
- Stuart (3/5): Poor - Under construction but there was black mould on the ceiling, the bed was horrible Mould in the room
- James (1/5): The worst ever spent in hotel around newark - Check in was ok . I got virtually no sleep. The hotel had music on till 10pm that was very very loud. So loud that even with the volume on the telly turned right up you could not here it. This continied to 11pm and the bar was supposed to close at 11.30pm. This did not happen instead on went the mudic player lpuder than the band
At 11.45 i went down and was furious and asked them to turn it off. Instead tbey turned it down however i had to endure more loud singing which was sure was direct at me for complaining. After midnight i finally lost it and started to stamp loudly on the floor after putting my shoes back on. It stopped soon after but i so annoyed i coud not sleep. At 4.30 am i got up made cup of tea and got ready to leave as i had to into the queue at newark showground for a 6am opening.
Next day i contacted hotel and requested to speak to the manager to the manager but was not available. I did at this point explain that i was about to give this hotel the worst rating i would ever give and why. The manager would ring me later. No call was received or missed.
- Scarlett (4/5): Wouldn't reccomend - Not much Very small room, very uncomfortable bed . And was bit by something in the room ...possible bed bugs?
- Lynda (2/5): Dreadful - The girl who checked us in was very nice Most things!!!!
We were ‘checked in’ and shown to our room, it was pretty obvious room hadn’t been cleaned and bed had been slept in!!
- Thembani (7/5): Good -
- Elaine (5/5): Ok - Owner made us welcome food was great A little noisy
- Michelle (9/5): Brilliant staff and a little gem in the country, could be even better!!! - The staff went out of their way for us, they made us feel very welcome, the food was fabulous. If it hadn’t of been for the bedrooms it would have scored a 10 but room was clean and tidy… the locals were also very welcoming. The bedrooms need an upgrade.
- Portrey (9/5): Got what you paid for, if I could rate the food alone from the restaurant it would be 5 stars, really enjoyed it! - For the price room was ok Room could do with a touch up of paint but apart from that no complaints
- Lisa (7/5): Don't miss eating here food is fab, room was okay for the price. - The Fountain was easy to find and offered enough free parking for our 2 cars. Location was close enough to Lincoln to make visiting the city easy, but the surrounding countryside was lovely, Tuxford looked charming but we didn't have the time to explore. Staff were brilliant, very friendly and welcoming. The pub downstairs in lovely, and you really should eat there as the food was fab. The room was snug but clean and comfortable enough, bathroom was up to date. Paint missing from wall due to damp in the bedroom, space bit cramped but still good value for overall experience. Suited what we needed a safe and clean placed to crash before heading home.
- Debbie (8/5): Very good -
- Donna (8/5): Very good - Friendly helpful staff. Other guests showering for hours.
- Cathy (7/5): Very pleasant staff, hotel is in a nice area. We returned for a drink with friends - Accepted late bookings.. clean and comfortable, own bathroom. Pub below with food service available in the restaurant No breakfast
- Chris (1/5): Bad - Didn't stay they lost out booking
- Vince (7/5): Good -
- Julian (10/5): Good room in a friendly, well-run pub - Our room was clean and comfortable. Everything was in good working order.
The owner and staff were friendly and very helpful.
We could hear a little music in our room from the pub, but this did not go on too late and was not disturbing.
We ate our evening meal in the pub restaurant. The food was very good.
- Melody (4/5): I think everything just needs an upgrade if you want to charge £75 - My welcome was lovely, the guy was great and very friendly. I just felt the room wasn’t worth £75! My bath didn’t work (wouldn’t fill) the blind in the bathroom wouldn’t go fully down so everyone could see from outside. It was very noisy until around midnight downstairs and I felt really unwell so just needed to sleep. Unfortunately I didn’t sleep at all! (From being unwell, not the bed) the bed was comfy & clean.
- Mcskimming (3/5): Poor - Staff friendly and helpful. Room half decorated. Felt like a hostel. Blind in bathroom wouldn't cover entire window so felt very exposed while showering!!! Not good at all.
- Anthony (6/5): Could be more bike friendly given its location on a national bike trail. - It was an overnight in a pub during a bike ride on a national cycle route. A new owner is working to improve it. I enjoyed the beer. No food available during my visit in the evening or morning. Bedroom is immediately above the pub so noisy until closing time. No indoor or secure bike storage. Generally felt not value for money at the moment.
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Tubman (7/5): Good -
- Labouhat (8/5): Very good -
- Neil (3/5): Only in an emergency. - Not much…location was suitable but not much else Noise from the bar, no breakfast, pokey room, dirty shower, soggy and lumpy bed, bad smell of stale fat throughout the upper floor where the bedrooms were, grotty entrance to the rooms through the kitchen.
It was a pub with rooms, not a hotel.
- Peter (8/5): Friendly and convenient place for a short stay. - Convenient location for us to stay for a wedding in nearby village - just off A1 so easy to find. The staff were very friendly and were happy to give us a lift to the wedding and pick us up later in the evening, which was much appreciated! The room was clean and comfortable, and there was a free coffee machine for guests. The new owners acknowledged the property needed some refurbishment as some areas were looking a little tired.
- Demi (10/5): Exceptional - Everyone was incredibly kind and helpful. Nothing.
- Philip (5/5): Okay for my purposes - Location No teaspoon with the kettle cups and coffee etc. had to unplug the tv to plug the kettle in. Would have liked a flannel
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melanie (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (2/5): Big rip off not worth the money. - Food excerlent staff very polite and helpful. It was not a hotel but a noicey pub. It's next to a main railway so very noisey. Room was very small and grubby. Bathroom was very clean but the doors on the shower cubicle didnt open wide enough my partner couldn't get in as she is a big lady. 1 coat hanger and only 18 inches down the sides of double bed. Coffee machine down stairs didn't work and was told we could get as much coffee from it as we wanted, not happy. Damp on the outside wall. Mirror light in bedroom didn't work and mirror was dirty. £68 for the room was a rip off.
- Pamela (8/5): We did enjoy our stay and would go back there as brilliant location for us. I think they are doing improvements as the h - The staff were very friendly and helpful and looked after us during our stay. The food was excellent and the location is good They didn’t do any room service on the second day. Tea and coffee not filled up and bins not emptied. we were asked if wanted any on the third day this was done but we were only left one cup and the bins we’re still not emptied
- Alison (6/5): The staff were so lovely, making up for the room shortfall's. - Staff were very friendly, pleasant and helpful. Thank you The room was very basic and shabby. The bed was very uncomfortable.
- Samantha (7/5): Good -
- Paige (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely room, really friendly staff. We enjoyed our stay /
- John (1/5): Dirty and depressing - Nothing. It felt really grubby. The duvet was grey. It felt unclean. At 10 p.m., after I had finished a business call, I left and booked a premierinn room in Worksop. There was no way I was sleeping in that bed.
- Rich (6/5): No Food on Mons & Tues = Very Annoying when not Advertised. - The room was of a decent size and clean, and the wifi and tv were okay. There were no pictures or anything on the wall so it felt a little bleak.
The bath was of a decent size too. My biggest gripe, and this isn't the first place to do this. It was advertised as serving food, BUT...... as I found out to my detriment, NOT on Mondays or Tuesdays, very annoying. So, I had to call out for pizza, which I ate in my room with no plates etc. Was told it was advertised as such, but when I double-checked...... it definitely wasn't!!!
It was a bizarre arrival, when I got into the pub, they weren't expecting me, the room hadn't been cleaned, and the cleaner had been sacked. Combined with the no food on Mondays rule, I felt like walking out there and then. But I guess that couldn't be helped. It was just a little unprofessional having to listen to lots of bad mouthing of members of staff, how annoyed the barman was with it all, then I heard it all over again from the owner when they arrived.
- Wood (5/5): Passable -
- Dr. (9/5): An outstanding A1(M) rural pub in the Lincolshire area - Though this rural pub is going through a refurbishment, the staff including the Management were efficient and very supportive in making our stay memorable. A slight mixup regarding an out of scheduled breakfast request was admirably responded to by the manager. The continuing attention to refurbishment will only further enhance The Fountain as a delightful rural pub experience and stopover in the Lincolnshire area. The only problem that we experienced was the lack of clear signage to direct one to this delightful stopover.
- Douglas (4/5): Disappointing - Restaurant was closed and no breakfast available next morning. This was not referred to in Booking.com advert.
We had requested Decaf Coffee & Earl Grey tea. This was acknowledged by reply from hotel via Booking.com. Hotel denied this and could not supply what we had asked for.
Signs of dampness on wall next to window and electric socket hanging out of wall.
Adjacent to main east coast railway line with very frequent fast trains passing.
- Marilyn (5/5): Adequate for price charged. - Location was fine as we were going to an event nearby. Room needed some renovation - large patch of plaster showing. Wash basin in shower room wasn't working - the plug wouldn't stop the water from emptying.
- Susan (9/5): Superb -
- John (5/5): Very disappointing - Didn't know until we arrived that they didn't do breakfast. Sumwhat disappointed. There was no hot water at all. Even next morning.
The tables in restaurant were very sticky, the paper serviett stuck to it, and everything else.
- Rod (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (7/5): Good -
- Darren (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (8/5): Very good - Just off the motorway, booked at short notice clean and comfy great staff Unfortunately no food on a Monday's or Tuesday's
- Brynn (5/5): Passable - The staff where lovely It's very noisy from the pub music and trains shooting past all the time. The curtains where paper thin and the bed was very comfortable
