Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The property was clean and tidy and the owners were awesome. Nothing was too hard. Would recommend anyone stopping through to spend at least a night. Look forward to coming back
- Elaine (10/5): Excellent B&B - Wonderful stay at the Gamekeeper. Nothing was too much trouble and everything was fabstastic
- Valerie (10/5): Fantastic hosts. - The couple that ran the Gamekeeper were fantastic, very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Great breakfast, kept us going all day. Very clean room. Wi Fi not that good but we were right out in the country and the riverside setting was lovely. Would definitely return if in the area again.
- Debbie (10/5): Made to feel very welcome - We only stayed the one night, and it was during the week when the kitchen wasn't open. Not an issue as we stopped for a meal on the way there. We were due to leave very early the next morning, and the owners went to every length to supply us with breakfast before leaving. Great atmosphere, and had a very pleasant evening in the bar with the owners. We could also take our two dogs in. Would definitely stay there again.
- LEIGH (10/5): Very welcoming - As much as they could not do food due to kitchen issues. I had a really pleasant stay and great night sleep. The locals and staff were very friendly and I will stay hear again.
- Angie (4/5): Wrong time to stay. - We had a one night stay. Hoping for a quiet country pub that served an evening meal. However we were disappointed from the start.
Staff did not know we were booked in when arrived, then shown to the wrong room, we had booked a superior room.
There was a wedding party taking place so we were told no food was available in the evening. Asked could we have breakfast for an extra £7 pp on Sunday morning, told yes but only between 8 to 8.30 so passed on an early start.
Ate in the Blue Raddler in Dorchester instead, can recommend.
Returned to accommodation, we were locked out off the pub, and our room keys wouldn’t open the door member of the wedding party let us in.
Thankfully the party music stopped before 11pm. Room was fairly clean, though there was dusty air vent next to toilet, noisy bathroom fan and mattress passed it’s best. Not a four star room and not exceptional.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Mid week stop over - Very friendly service and location was great.
- David (8/5): Budget accommodation - Basic accommodation, tv, shower, toilet. Was comfortable, and very friendly.
- Moira and Des (8/5): Friendly and welcoming - We had a very comfortable stay at the Gamekeeper. The owner Kim was very friendly and we enjoyed a lovely evening of lively banter with him and some others from the local community. We couldn’t have felt more welcome.
- Shaun (8/5): The Gamekeeper, Charminster - Welcoming staff, accommodation adequate and clean.
Good food in pub.
- Laura (10/5): Lovely room in lovely location - Lovely room in a lovely setting. Visited family in Dorchester which was only a short drive away. The room and restaurant was nicely done and backed on to beautiful garden and stream. Hope to stay again soon
- Natalie (8/5): A really lovely place with fab staff .So welcoming - Lovely pub/hotel with very friendly staff. Had a nice meal and breakfast was excellent !! The room was unfortunately far too hot and noise from the road made it difficult to sleep but obviously not the hotels fault with the exceptionally hot weather. A great stay overall . Very good customer service adding a put up bed for our daughter at a mins notice as we didn’t know this was an option and had arranged for her to stay with friends. Made her day being able to stay with us. Thank you
- Alkesh (10/5): Relaxed few days - Great little place in amazing setting
- Greer (8/5): A warm welcome at the Gamekeeper - Kim was helpful, friendly, warm and welcoming. He did everything he could to ensure we were comfortable which was amazing when a sudden family bereavement meant his wife had to fly overseas on the day we arrived. Everything was clean and tidy and it's clear they continue to make improvements as they build their business. It's a very beautiful area and incredibly quiet and peaceful - good for the soul! :-) There is a lovely little river at the bottom of their garden/paddock and it was very therapeutic to sit down by the river and watch the water go by. It's probably best to have your own car if staying at the Gamekeeper especially if you want to explore further afield or go to the beach. Kim recommended a great taxi company who were prompt and reasonably priced. If you do have your own car, the Gamekeeper has a big car park so there's plenty of space to park. A big thanks to Kim for looking after us so well and George, the parrot, was most entertaining!
- philip (10/5): Great place to stay - Very friendly staff. Nice room with garden view. No evening meal on Monday or Tuesday but the staff will order a take away for you to eat in the restaurant.
