Guest Reviews
- Cindy (6/5): Just okay - Good stop over for us, but no restaurants nearby. The beds could use an update, they have pretty bad body divots.
- Harry (10/5): Very pleasant staff, good atmosphere in pleasant surroundings, would definitely consider returning if in this area again - Good location, spacious, clean, good parking. Although there was limited vegetarian food available they were very helpful with suggestions of nearby restaurants and provided plates and cutlery for our takeaway. Tea and coffee available in the room. And dog friendly One chair in room was a bit uncomfortable.
- Senga (10/5): Great quiet location definitely visit in future - Nice quiet location at an event just needed somewhere to sleep 😌great little bar with locals didn’t have food so can’t comment on this great nights sleep comfy beds N/A
- Lucas (10/5): - Such a fun / unique experience staying at a guest house connected to the tavern. We wish we were visiting when things were busier and we could have spent more time in the tavern.
- Monica (9/5): -
- Natalie (9/5): Great stay, no complaints - Great place, friendly staff. Easily accessible. All we needed for our stay! Nothing
- Jennifer (10/5): Lovely pub accommodations - would definitely recommend - Macbeth Arms was a great little inn! The staff were so lovely and accommodating! I accidentally booked for the wrong night (which I realized the day AFTER we were supposed to arrive!) and they were able to shift our reservations and gave me a discount on the additional night.
The rooms were very comfortable and light. Plenty of space and comfortable beds.
The food and drinks at the pub were good and the community was very welcome. Each time we went to the pub, local folks struck up conversation and were very kind. Nothing. It was great!
- Bob (9/5): Just good - No breakfast available
- Eleanor (9/5): Very friendly, clean, comfortable, lovely stay - None on premises but lovely nearby farmhouse/country shop as recommended.
Allowed to bring in fish and chips to bar, very friendly staff and locals. Na
- Verity (10/5): - Good value for money, easy self check in, quiet, cosy room. Pet friendly is a bonus
- Caroline (10/5): Great accommodation, got an early check-in, room very clean and comfortable. Staff very friendly too. - Spacious room, lovely and clean, quiet location, staff very friendly.
- Alison (10/5): - I stayed on a room only basis. Hotel is currently only manned in the evening. No resident staff but they are contactable 24/7.This suited me.When staff were present they couldnt do enough to make my stay great.
Room appeared to be recentky refurbished-to a high standard. Well equipped including a pod coffee machine.
It was roomy, clean and warm. Bed was comfy.A fridge was provided as I stayed for a few days.
Very pet friendly. I had no complaints. I was attending an event and was only looking for a place to sleep. Location is in a small village with no restaurants etc I was there in winter but would be a great base for exploring Deeside when everything is open in the tourist season.
- Ruth (8/5): - Very nice room, and able to store my bike inside Poor bar food choice
- Ursula (10/5): -
- Callum (10/5): -
- Mary A (10/5): Large quiet room overlooking the quaint village of Lumphanan in Aberdeenshire. - I was on a research driving tour of the Aberdeen countryside. The MacBeth Arms was the perfect resting place in the perfect location for my travels. I took some lovely walks around the village of Lumphanan, enjoyed sitting in the downstairs pub with the locals for a G & T, and slept very well in my spacious room. All good. No comment here.
- janice (8/5): - I was upgraded.
Although my room was above the bar, there wasn't any noise disturbance.
- Brown (7/5): -
- Graham (8/5): Very comfortable - Room was very clean and spacious bed was good The shower pressure could have been higher move smoking area away from under bedroom windows
- Christine (10/5): - Stayed 1 night while travelling south from the NC500. Perfect for our stay. Large clean comfortable rooms. Good priced food and drink. Friendly locals and staff. Feel like the photos do not do this place justice. We had a great stay.
- Alice (9/5): -
- Chitra C (10/5): Absolute Gem in the perfect middle of everything! - The staff running this place is a couple and they take care of it like their own. Love the bar serving Guinness. Location is perfect. Everything you need is just 10mins by car. The room was the biggest one among all and we were so lucky to have stayed in it! We requested for a kettle and fridge and they provided us with a full coffee station. Absolutely nothing that we didn't like. We wished it wasn't so booked up so we could have stayed another night. We didn't want to leave!
- Margaret (10/5): -
- Jayne (9/5): - Clean and comfortable room
Good value for money Breakfast box or opportunity. Restaurant near or food applicable
- Waldrop (9/5): -
- Susan (9/5): -
- Antoine (6/5): -
- ewan (8/5): Rooms above local bar which is only open at weekends but busy then. Noise was tolerable on night I stayed . -
- Alfons (7/5): -
- Jacqueline (9/5): It was a fun stay, glad we stumbled across it. - The town is where Macbeth was killed, interesting!
Our room was great, lovely outlook & clean More of a selection of food would have been great but there was only one staff member to serve & very limited selection, the guy did really well though.
- Albert (7/5): Very pleasant, and it suited us for our 1 night stay. - I knew there was no food as explained on the website, but we had arranged to eat elsewhere. We had to leave at 07.30, so could not have stayed for breakfast if it had been on offer. Room was large with 2 different window aspects.
Manager/owner was very pleasant on arrival. Would have been nice to get BBC or ITV. but Netflix was on offer. Bathroom door would not close - out of alignment ?
- Nikos (9/5): - Sehr freundlicher Wirt, authentischer Pub direkt im Gebäude
- George (8/5): Quiet location, but satisfactory for our outdoor activities. - All facilities were clean, tidy and comfortable.
Quiet location in a small countryside town.
Helpful staff.
Bar open in the evenings.
TV and wifi in the room.
Local walking, cycling and other outdoor activities. Only limited bar meals on offer in the evening and no breakfast, but local shop nearby.
- Younga (10/5): Cozy place - I arrived late and just needed a place to sleep. It was clean, a bit outdated, but comfortable enough for a good night’s rest. Need an instruction on how to use the coffee make😁
- Ian (9/5): Seamless, looked after and great conversation. - I was on the Royal Dee Golf Week. Furthest course was 40 minutes away, closest, 10. They don't do food at Macbeth, but plenty of options close by. Hosts are wonderful. Spend a couple of hours in the bar and meet some great locals, some that will surprise you. If you have time, explore the local area history, very interesting. Want a Golf challenge, Lamphannan golf course, a test.
- Kathleen Evans (10/5): Nice - No food .maybe b&b would have been better nil
- Anne-Sophie (9/5): -
- Stephen (8/5): A great place to stay that is near to Royal Deeside, but without crowds and high prices. - The review is based on the fact that this is a small hotel that is not staffed all the time. This is the reason that meals and breakfast are not available, but you know that when you book and the Post Office next door can fill most of the gaps.
What you get is a nice hotel in a small and quiet village which is not a significant detour, but gets you away from the much busier (in the summer) towns and villages nearby. Not only that, but it has some cool and interesting archaeology on the doorstep.
- Patrice (9/5): - Trés bien, propre et au calme.
- Tomas (10/5): - Hotel is fresh and comfortable. Everything is clean. Helpful guy in a bar. It would be nice to have restaurant for dinner on site.
- julie (9/5): -
- martin (9/5): -
- Tor Petter (8/5): Koselig og fint overnattingssted i Lumphanan. - GOd beliggenhet, rent og fint. Hyggelig personale.
- Quique83 (8/5): -
- Kerr (9/5): - Excellent value for money Nothing
- Lene (7/5): - Et lille hyggeligt, lidt slidt hotel,- men med usædvanlig god rengøring og venlig betjening.
- Jan (7/5): - Quiet place. Small room.
- Barbara (9/5): - Personnel accueillant et chaleureux. Chambre très spacieuse et propre.
- Cornelia (9/5): -
- Cara (9/5): -
- Dyrk (6/5): -
- Potter-Carroll (10/5): -
- Elizabeth (9/5): Unexpected wee gem! - Unexpected wee gem! The room was bright, airy, and clean. All essentials catered for and very friendly hosts. We took our own cereal and picnic bowls, but there are places within 15/20 mins (Alford, Torphins, Banchory). Basic evening bar meals (pizza etc), but again, there are places within 20 minutes to eat.
We couldn't figure out the TV but that's OK because we weren't here for that! The bathroom door needs a wee lift up to fit the frame, but the bath and shower work great and plenty of towels. Bed was comfy, and we slept well, the area quiet. Extra pillows were provided on my request, and there was a kettle and dolce gusto in our room! As we travel with our late teen in tow, finding places of good value for two rooms is tricky ... and we are quite picky people. However, we would stay here again and recommend it! Would pay extra for continental breakfast option. Even if it was breakfast bags!
- Frank (8/5): -
- Paul (8/5): - Nice Place with a big and comfortable room. We really enjoyed it
- Roberto (10/5): Excellent accommodation. Well done! - Excellent accommodation in all aspects. Peter was particularly friendly, helpful and provided info on food in the area. Great place, clean and comfortable. Nothing
- Stewart (7/5): - Good room clean and tidy. Well presented. Bar downstairs friendly and pool table available too Could have
done with an extra cover or blanket but pet friendly. Guy at bar welcoming. We'll go back if in the area
- idyllische Lage
sauber
über einem Pub Zimmer etwas klein
- Niall (8/5): Home from home - Clean, well equipped rooms with en-suite. Good location with easy connections to local amenities
- Adrian (9/5): Would stay again. Very positive. - Very clean. Very friendly - the staff fell over backwards to provide us with a toaster and microwave so as we could make our own breakfast. Very quiet (particularly for a pub).
- David Fairweather (10/5): The owners go out of their way to accommodate guests - Handy for the local pub (downstairs) Absolutely nothing
- Vassia (7/5): -
- Rhoda (9/5): - Very tidy and clean, helpful staff. No heating in the shower room, chilly
- Nico (8/5): Excellent but poor soundproofing. - Excellent and fit the purpose we needed it for. Clean and comfortable and very responsive management. Soundproofing in the room was not great. We had to listen to a conversation somewhere in the hotel until probably 06:00. This person would just not stop talking.
- Michael (10/5): -
- Paulina (2/5): - I have booked bed& breakfast on expedia web. Paid money for it to find out is no brekfast that evening, only because needed to call maintenence guy....as tv broken down. Got an email few days pripor my arrival that bar/ pub is close from monday to Thursday from day i am coming and i need to use codes to get in as is no staff.....
Better and better...
Loud( every little noise from room above not allowing to sleep)Cold, mould in the corner, hand towel hanger almost off the wall and wardrobe...without a rail and hangers...table pool to be in use after money putted in to only take money ...
- Mark (9/5): -
- michael (7/5): - Location easy to find with the sat nav, nice warm welcome in the bar Bed to wide could only just get in,
Need a side table and there wasn't 1
- Trevor (9/5): -
- Michael Leix (10/5): - Lage zum Caingorms Nationalpark Zimmer etwas klein
- david (8/5): Good value, friendly staff, historic location for Shakespeare fans! - Large room with small table and easy chairs. The pub does not offer food but on the night we stayed (Thursday) a mobile fish n chips van parked outside and sold an excellent takeaway which we were able to eat in the pub bar. There is also a small shop next door that sells convenience foods. There was no breakfast offered but we knew of this in advance. The water system and shower is a little antiquated with a very noisy electric flushing system.
- William (10/5): A perfect overnight stay - Central in the village . Very clean and well appointed. Seemed to have been recently refurbished. Nothing
- Mark (9/5): -
- Scott (9/5): -
- Martin (10/5): -
- Kirsty (10/5): -
- Dakota (10/5): Very cozy, clean and comfortable - Room was very cozy, clean, had kettle, microwave, coffee machine with pods and even toaster! Bed was comfy. Definitely recommend!

- Yanina (8/5): -
- Katharina (8/5): - . .
- Mary (10/5): I came for the games and had a wonderful day weather just perfect. - Staff very helpfull and friendly. Locals in the bar also friendly and informative and were kind to my dog Everything was excellent
- Robert (8/5): -
- Elena (7/5): -
- Gordon (10/5): Very accommodating hosts -
- Allan (8/5): -
- Rhona (8/5): Country inn - Traditional inn lodgings above a pub. Staff were friendly and let us eat our takeaway downstairs in the pub, as main meals are not served there. Spacious, clean well presented en-suite bedroom. Pretty walks nearby and a nice countryside view from our window. Pod coffee machine and microwave provided in the room. The accommodation is great value for money. There was some noise from the pub downstairs (music on until late, as it was a Saturday night) and from another group of guests who arrived back to their rooms drunk in the middle of the night.
- Angela (8/5): Plain & simple. Compact but adequate. - Easy to access with parking outside. Good base for local activities. Thin walls & banging doors, so awakened at irregular hours by other guests coming & going.
- Victoria (7/5): Good for the value. Wonderful staff. - Quiet. Picturesque. On Friday nights there is loud music until 1 AM.
- Ingrid (10/5): Warm comfortable- slept great - Warm friendly staff. Delicious food, clean warm rooms. Thank you N/A
- Janet (7/5): -
- Robert (8/5): Lovely pub set in a lovely village. - Set in a quiet village the inn is ideally situated for all the tourist attractions in the area and making the coast easily accessible. The property is in a listed building which makes some of the facilities quirky. Although there is no breakfast available the room was well equipped with a fridge, microwave, toaster and tea / coffee. Very noisy on Friday and Saturday night as it is situated above the only pub in the village but we knew that when we booked.
