Guest Reviews
- Carol (10/5): An amazing place to stay in Gallipoli .. by the sea, filled with history, and the most charming host - The setting was beautiful and our host was such a delight to talk to. The physical space is exquisite ... a beautiful restored palazza filled with history. We had a balcony overlooking the sea. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. We were traveling by bicycle and they kindly provided an inside space. We wouldn't change a thing! It was all great.
- Glenn (10/5): Oozing wih Character - It’s a really cool apartment with water view in the old town. Lots of history and character . Good breakfast. Very glad that we stayed there. Easy parking for bicycles in the garage area. Recommended The WIFI was somewhat slow and sometimes unreliable, but most people can use their own data plans as a back-up.

- Andreas (10/5): Perfect stay with a great view and a very good breakfast - Great place to stay. Perfect location. Owners are very nice. all great

- Mark (10/5): - The balcony view. Nor being able to stay for breakfast as we had to leave before 8am.

- Maria (10/5): Fantastiskt B&B i Gallipoli - Absolut bästa boendet i Gallipoli!
- Valerie (9/5): Charming and beautiful B&B in a historical house with delightful hosts and seaviews! - Extremely friendly hosts who are communicative and with lots to tell about the history of Gallipoli, despite the language barrier. The house was charming and full of history, it's like living in a house from years ago that has been well maintained and is very comfortable. The room had a great view of the sea! The best bed and pillows I've had for the 2 weeks I was in italy. Superb breakfast (esp the fruits bowl)! Location is in a quieter alley but a stone's throw from the main shopping and eating street. Very near to the beach and the host kindly lent us a beach umbrella and beach chair! Loved our stay! Nothing!
- Kathy (10/5): I highly recommend a stay at Palazzo Barba. I felt I was staying with family. Our room had a great balcony we enjoyed - Great location. Easy to get around the old city on the island of Gallipoli. All walkable. We were here six nights and ate at a different restaurant each meal. All were very good and reasonable price. The hosts Mr & Mrs Barba were wonderful. They were so attentive, welcoming and exceeded our expectations.
The property was very neat and very interesting history. Has been in their family since 1800’s.
The breakfast was excellent with a little different twist each day. Everything was great.
- Karin (10/5): The family owned palazzo is full of charm and faded elegance. Located On the seafront of the old city, you have a stunn - The amazing view and old world charm
- Kathryn (10/5): Delightful stay in Gallipoli! - Perfectly located, wonderful hosts and great breakfast! All great
- Marcin (9/5): Beautiful, historical palazzo. - Fantastic, beautiful, old palazzo located in the heart of Gallipoli old city. Incredibly spacious room, Beautiful sea view. It is impossible to park nearby, just in a parking 300m away - very minor inconvenience.
- Wendy (9/5): An excellent stay in this lovely town. - The location and view were exceptional. The room was enormous and contained everything you could possibly need. The breakfast could have been a little more varied.
- Diane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Scott (10/5): Exceptional - great location, hosts were helpful for our needs and brilliant breakfast.
Fantastic sun rises from our bed in the mornings or from the spacious balcony.
Parking within 5-10min walk at porta parking 6euro for 2 days.
- Shurmanova (9/5): Superb - Amazing location, really cool room, so much history and very clean
- Theresa (10/5): Stayed two nights, could have stayed longer. many more.Emmanule and his wife Clara are not just excellent hosts, they a - The property is brilliantly located in the Centro Storico. It’s beautiful, my room was huge and the balcony overlooking the marina was even bigger! Stunning views and fabulous hosts, lovely breakfast, plus a historic palazzo both gorgeous and charming—what more could you want? I loved it all.
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect location, great with sunny mornings and cooler evenings.
- Nicole (7/5): Prima - Ligging top
- Alejandro (10/5): Exceptional -
- Audrey (10/5): Amazing B&B right by the old town! - Everything was perfect and more than we expected to be! 🥳 We felt rush to eat our breakfast every morning as the gentlemen was sitting in the sofa next to the dining table. And we were asked to leave the room 5 mins before check out time as we were getting ready to go! 😬
- Catharine (10/5): Exceptional - The view, location, large room, excellent breakfast, welcoming hosts.
- Alan (10/5): Lively place to stay in the heart of Gallipoli. - It was a beautiful B&B very well taken care of and very well attended. I loved the history of the place and the possibility to stay in the heart of Gallipoli. Emanuelle, our host, made everything possible for our comfort and care.
- Magdalena (10/5): I felt really privileged that I could stay there and meet the family Barba who runs the place. - The place is simply magnificent! Spacious room with beautiful sea view, very comfortable bathroom, and dining room that is also available to the guests where very good breakfasts are being served (not only sweet ones, which is not that common in Italy). This place is absolutely unique because of its history: it's been since more than 100 years in the hands of the same family, family Barba. The owners live there and take care of their guests with all the kindness. It was an expectational and unforgettable experience, I felt really privileged that I could stay there and meet the family.
- Debbie (9/5): Fabulous Palazo, fabulous host and great breakfast - A great room in a family run Palazzo.
Emmanuel is a great host (he didn’t speak English, we don’t speak Italian but it was no issue). Location is just perfect, you can sit in the rocker with the doors open looking over the fishing port. Breakfast was by far the best we have had, Emmanuel was very attentive. Easy walk to Restuarants and shops, loved it. The bathroom in our room was small. The shower is tiny, this was workable, but I would suggest asking for a room with the larger bathroom when booking. I think the room we had may be the only one with a tiny bathroom.
- Rumen (10/5): Excellent place in the old town - Excellent place to spend a few days in Gallipoli. It is a real 19 century palazzo with beautiful huge rooms. Magnificent seaview. Emmanuelle and his wife are super helpful. They prepare breakfast every morning. Also they helped us find a mechanic, when we needed one. The place feels like home. The location is excellent. Nothing
- Jane (10/5): Relaxing, comfortable stay in a perfect location. - Architecturally beautiful. Large room. Large balcony with sea view. Large comfortable bed. Centrally located. Excellent breakfast. Thank you Clara and Emanuele for our stay. Nothing
- Konstantinos (10/5): Will be coming back every year - We stayed at Palazzo Barbara for 4 nights in the room with the sea view and I can't recommend it enough but I will try to summirise.
The location: right in the heart of historic center along the walls overseeing the small fishing harbor. Everything you need is walking distance including amazing restaurants and bars. There is no private parking but we found a free spot at the harbor parking easy enough.
The house: a beautiful renovated 19th century palazio. The house of Barba is full of history and the family are spanning generations involved in Galipoli and Puglia science, art and social history of the region. Emanuele Barba who first build this palazio was a physician, researcher and scientist as well as founder of the local Emanuel Barba museum that you can visit. Eugene Barba a famous director, poet, screenwriter and founder or Odin Teatro. Our amazing host Mario and Carla will be more than happy to show you the many books, photos and documents displayed in the house tying the long history of the Barba famiky to the city.
The room: We stayed at the sea view room, a beautiful spacious and clean room which used to be the entertainment room back in the days. Huge clean bathroom, mini fridge and AC included. Our host even included some cold wine and snacks free of charge which was more than welcomed on a hot day :)
The view: Here's where words can't describe enough the tranquility that this huge balcony window to the harbor offered. From the moment we went in we sat down in the two rocking chairs and opened a book. Fresh sea air with unobstructed view to the small fishing harbor and blue waters. I couldn't wait to go back to the room everyday for some reading and maybe a nap on that beautiful balcony. Nothing less than soul-healing.
Will be definitely returning back next year. Grazie Mille Mario!
- Chloe (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely accommodation, in an absolutely fantastic location. Room was huge and breakfast was fantastic There is no included parking. We found parking at the port car park really difficult (Sept 2024)
- David (9/5): A place to stay of character and charm - Great location, very friendly hosts and beautiful building full of character, breakfast was a real treat with a great selection
- Elia (6/5): Disappointing host attitude, but a beautiful location. - The location and the view were the best! Unfortunately, our experience with the hosts were not as nice as everyone else's. The hosts are actually living in the apartment, and even if they used only the common areas, as they were always there, the general feeling is that the privacy is really diminished. It's not a deal breaker, and we should probably expect it for this type of accommodation, but I think future guests should be aware of this aspect.
But the most unpleasant experience was when, at breakfast (which is served until 10 am), we asked for a cup of coffee at 9:40 and were told that "the coffee machine is already turned off". This happened as, the previous morning, we were told we came too late for breakfast- even if we woke up, and finished breakfast well before 10 am. We were served breakfast, but made aware that we should wake up earlier the next day- a not so nice observation for a holiday stay, even if we respected the breakfast hours.
- Cezara (10/5): Lovely balcony view - We loved this old house and its location in the historical center: just a few minutes away from the main attractions, restaurants, shops, bars and the beautiful Purita beach. The room offers a lovely view and it is big enough even for a larger family! The cleanliness is really well done daily and the breakfast offers tasty choices, both sweet and salty + the coffee meets its Italian expectations! The train station is around 15 mins away.
- Deirdre (10/5): Exceptional - We had a fantastic stay in this wonderful, unique b&b. Everything about it was wonderful, the hosts, the breakfast, the location, the beautiful spotlessly clean room and the balcony with the fabulous views. We can't wait to return! Nothing
- Michele (10/5): Palazzo Barba is a fantastic place to stay. - Excellent location and spectacular view. Rooms are large and very comfortable. Hosts Emanuele and Clara were wonderful. Nothing.
- Cameron (10/5): Beautiful sea view. Nice old town character. Friendly, nice host. - The location is ideal. It is in the old town about a 10 minutes walk from the Port parking lot where you can park for free. Our room had a great view of the fishing port from the balcony. The breakfasts were amazing. There were bowls of mixed fruit and nuts, cheese and prosciutto, yogurt, bruschetta toasts and more. No complaints.
- Björn (9/5): Recommend! - Location, balcony, room, breakfast and the hosts. The cleaning staff arrived earlier than expected, before check-out time.
- Chavdar (10/5): Exceptional - Very good location, kind owners, beautiful historic house, fabulous view from the terrace, we had wonderful time there.
- Colin (10/5): An amazing find in Gallipoli !! - What an amazing find - a B&B like no other. From our arrival, the owner and his family were warm, welcoming and attentive. Our room was spacious with a balcony overlooking the sea and nearby castle. Very quiet at night. Bed was extremely comfortable. But the highlight was the breakfast - probably the best we've had in Italy!
Free all day car parking very close by.
This is definitely the place to stay if you're travelling to Gallipoli - you won't be disappointed!
A big thank you to our host Mario and his lovely family! Nothing - everything was perfect!
- Angela (9/5): Wonderful hosts, beautiful room and outlook. - The location was central to everything you need and you felt like you were amongst it. The view from the balcony from our room was magic and you could not be in a better location. You can watch the fishing vessels from the balcony coming and going and the local fishermen preparing nets. The host/owners are beautiful, generous and accommodating. There is long history regarding the property and the proprietors. We were lucky to find this BnB and the experience that came with it. I liked everything, as I appreciated its originality and the hosts.
- Claire (9/5): Superb - The elderly couple that accommodated us was very friendly. We had a very warm welcome. Every interaction felt very personal and sincere. The breakfast was very hearty and filling. The view was great as well.
- Verra (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rudi (10/5): Great hosts and fun to stay in a palazzo - Lovely, large rooms with amazingly high ceilings. Beautiful views of the sea, which is just a few steps away. Fresh breakfast each morning, with a wide variety of options. This was a lovely stay, with kind hosts who had very good restaurant recommendations. And here we had great beds that gave us the best sleep we had our whole time in Italy.
Good to know - plenty of parking in the port parking lot just below the old town. You just need to pay from 6pm to midnight (50 cents an hour).
- Maggiecarlin (10/5): We loved our stay and would recommend it to all - My mum and I stayed at Palazzo Barba and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We were made feel so welcome and at home. It’s such a beautiful property with amazing hosts that go above and beyond. Breakfast was incredible, all ammenities were clean, we cannot fault our stay.
We would recommend it to all our friends and of course stay again if we were to return.
- Lee (10/5): Fantasico! - The most fabulous view of the harbour from the spacious apartment. The hosts were wonderful & breakfast was delicious. I loved waking up & seeing the fisherman tending their nets & the harbour is beautiful. You can walk easily around the whole of the old town & we found some amazing little restaurants hidden in the back streets. Gallipoli was my favourite place in Puglia & I would definitely stay at Palazzo Barba again. The bathroom was quite small but big enough for me.
- Michelle (10/5): An absolute gem in Gallipoli - We had an amazing stay at Palazzo Barba. The room we had , Scirocco, was fantastic. The views were out of this world. It was spacious and meticulously clean. Emanuele and Clara are fabulous hosts. So kind and generous , they make you feel so welcome. The breakfast was exceptional, prepared by Clara with Emanuele serving the coffees. Parking was easy just a few minutes away in the port. Gallipoli is an enchanting town with fabulous beaches in town and a shirt drive up the coast. We cannot speak highly enough of this beautiful property and the hosts.
- Christian (10/5): A fantastic location/accommodation, which will forever stay with us. - When you go through the front door, you enter into a different world - The world of the Barba family and its history. What an experience, which will stay with us forever.
Breakfast was out of this world - best Italian breakfast. Not to be missed.
Best location for exploring Gallipoli. We enjoyed our late evening walks on the bastion and watching the fishing boats take off in the early hours.....No wonder the restaurants could offer the best seafood. It's difficult to suggest what could be better as this apartment is several hundred years old, converted into a B&B. We had undoubtedly the best room. Spacious, with two tall windows/doors and a five-meter ceiling height. Very well renovated and a pleasure to stay at.
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional - A great location with very welcoming hosts. Best breakfast we had in Italy. The shared dining room has a lovely view and balcony. The bathroom is small.
- Lindsay (9/5): Warm and welcoming B&B in Gallipoli - We loved Palazza Barba for our stay in Gallipoli. The whole B&B was so charming and the property had so much interesting history and artifacts. The room was huge and very comfortable, and we also loved all the storage for our things since we were on a longer trip. The decoration was so lovely and traditional and homey. Everyone was so welcoming - we felt like we were guests staying in someone’s home rather than a B&B. The terrace in our room was great for a drink and for people watching. The breakfast was also fantastic! The location was great as well - we were close to all the sights and lots of restaurants, as well as a beautiful beach!
- Anonymous (10/5): Great B&B, great hosts in a beautiful city. - Beautiful place in Gallipoli! Emanuele and Clara made us feel at home. Breakfast was terrific!
- Jessica (10/5): Very comfortable stay in a beautiful part of Gallipoli. Would recommend! - Location was excellent and room was lovely, absolutely massive with a generous sized bathroom too. breakfast was also delicious nothing
- Colin (9/5): Superb -
- Eva (10/5): Felt like staying with family in a great location in the old town - Right for the outset the host was very prompt in responding to any queries we had and was accomodating, especially with providing gluten free alternatives (a great and varied breakfast).
We highly recommend this B & B as it’s in a great , central location in the old town, and more so, as the hosts are happy to assist in any way they can. No parking at the B & B , which is probably the case for most accomodation in the ZTL zone - but we knew that when we made the booking.
- Lara (9/5): Superb - Amazing breakfast, wonderful hosts, outstanding location
- Helen (8/5): Very good - Very comfortable and well appointed room. While hosts don't speak much English they are very friendly. Lovely breakfast. Location is perfect and there was free parking in the port area. A bit hard to find initially. Would love places like this to offer laundry services, we are travelling for 7 weeks.
- Catherine (10/5): Wonderful hotel steeped in history with stunning views. - Fabulous place to stay with wonderful and very helpful hosts. We were so glad we booked here and would definitely recommend it. Nothing
- Willmacdonald (8/5): Very good -
- Gerard (9/5): Good location - easy to find and close to parking at the port. Excellent breakfast. -
- Jennine (10/5): We loved sitting on the balcony with a cold drink and snack and feeling very relaxed. , taking in the fishermen - The room was large and with traditional tiled floors and an absolutely fantastic balcony with a great view over the port of Gallipoli. Close to a fabulous swimming beach.
Mario Emmanuel was a charming host and created the BEST breakfast we have had in Puglia. Nothing
- Anne (8/5): Very good - the location was one of the best on the island . had a beautiful sea view
breakfast was amazing
hosts were very helpful and accommodating nothing really although no elevator . you have to park in the harbour and walk up with luggage.
could be an issue for some
- Linda (10/5): wonderful option in Gallipoli! - everything. Perfect location, fabulous view, lovely hosts, historic building. we loved it! not a thing
- Karen (9/5): Brilliant location and view. Comfortable room and lovely hosts. - Our host Emmanuel was a pleasure, made us feel most welcome and comfortable. Very good location and superb view of the port. The room was spacious, small bathroom but overall an excellent choice and we would stay again.
Thank you.
- Catherine (9/5): Fabulous sea views in this charming old Palazzo. - I had a sea view room in this gorgeous old Palazzo. It was so wonderful to sit in my huge room & watch the view, the boats & the fishermen go about their day. The Palazzo is well located & a short walk from the station.
The hosts are charming & although they don’t speak much English (or I don’t speak any Italian) they greeted me warmly & were just lovely. They serve a very generous breakfast each morning.
You won’t regret staying here. Nothing to dislike.
- Charles (10/5): Quiet clean & comfortable - Quiet Clean & comfortable. Perfect location. Breakfast was awesome!
- Anja (9/5): Superb - Great big room, little bit old fashioned (small batheroom) but clean and very comfortable, the host was very sweet and caring, extensive fresh breakfast. in the old town, near the Port where the fishermen sell their catch :). Great recommendation for dinner! The shower is a little bit small but its peanuts by the rest!
- Charles (10/5): Clean, comfortable & quiet! - Very clean comfortable & quiet! Mario was an awesome host! His family home was filled with so much love and history! The breakfast was a typical but amazing Italian breakfast (fresh pastries, fresh fruit, meat & cheese, bruschetta, yogurt! Italian coffee. Palazzo Barba overlooks the sea! Close to everything! Only .7 miles from train station. Everything was perfect!
- Graham (9/5): Amazing value and great location. - Wonderful, warm and welcoming hosts. Huge, palatial room with a fantastic view. Incredible breakfasts.
- Pawel (9/5): Superb - Excellent view from the very spacious room with morning sun, very good breakfast prepared by owner with option to eat outside on balcony (on request) one breakfast table for all guests inside (rather inconvenient)
- Ekaterina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ron (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional - Huge room, wonderful view from the terrace, excellent big breakfast, great location, lovely hosts.
- Jerry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Philip (10/5): A Palazzo as it should be - run by a lovely couple - It really is an old Palazzo with all the old charm that brings. The owners are lovely and the breakfast is fantastic. We had the room with the balcony and it is truly special. As it is in the old town with very strict traffic rules, parking is at the port but really is less than 5 minutes walk - and when we were there parking was free! As is to be expected in a very old building, the shower was very good but in THIS room, quite small (other rooms have larger showers). It did not bother us but really corpulant individuals would have found it challenging in this room.
- Mark (8/5): amazing historic property with beautiful hosts and wonderful big breakfast - Hosts very hospitable and kind. beautiful space with gorgeous view of marina Parking little challenging, but doable
- Andrzej (6/5): uncomfortable noisy room, small bathroom - location and the view from balcony Very, very small bathroom. Early morning and at night the room was noisy.
- David (10/5): Perfect stay in a lovely house - great location in a lovely house. Owners were very helpful and attentive.
- Balázs (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect hospitality. The villa is gorgeus, near by the sea. You can feel the history inside. Although we couldn't talk much with the host, without words you can tell, they are truly welcome you. The breakfast is more then enough, and very tasty. All in all highly recommended place in Gallipoli!
- Martyn (9/5): Great place, good breakfast, fab location, would definitely stay again. - location and view. spacious accommodation. Beautiful and old
decor. Emmanuel and his Wife were
excellent hosts. It would be better with a new shower
cubicle.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The property is well located in the centro storico, with views over the harbour.
