Guest Reviews
- Andrew (10/5): Modern lodge in a peaceful setting. - This quiet & peaceful site has just three lodges on the edge of Newton Stewart. The lodge was modern, spotless and held a great view across nearby fields. Central heating kept the lodge cozy and warm. Ample parking and a warm and friendly welcome from the owner. Very good value.
A great base to explore Galloway. We visited Kirroughtree, Mossyard, Wigtown, Mull of Galloway Lighthouse, Logan Botanical Gardens and had a wonderful weekend We were very happy.
- Marcin (10/5): -
- Warner (10/5): Another great break at Barnkirk. - We've stayed with Ian on a number of occasions and all excellent, this time we had the slightly larger caravan, and found it suited us well, the little extra shower space in particular was m9st welcome. Considering the weather we've had this winter, it was pleasant to have a couple of sunny days yo enjoy the surroundings. All In all a very enjoyable few days. Nothing under human control!! Very strong winds came in on our last day, but we couldn't complain to the person or being responsible🤣🤣
- Zoe (10/5): Brilliant, loved it and didn't want to leave. Very cosy, comfortable bed too. Definitely be back! - We loved this small, private dog friendly site, with lovely views of the surrounding green hills and fields from our caravan decking, and regular visits from neighbouring cows with their calves each day. A very calming, peaceful location; friendly welcoming host with the right balance of being helpful while leaving us to enjoy our stay hassle free. A well kitted out caravan with everything we needed for our self-catering break away; good position for travelling to Dumfries, New Galloway, the Machars and beyond. The wooden steps leading up to the decking to access the caravan could do with being adjusted slightly to add a couple more steps to make them less of a height between each step and less of a steep climb up, especially for the biker dodgy knee brigade! Just need an extra oven rack and the bathroom sink plug o ring could do with replacing; but these are minor things and did not impact on our enjoyable stay.
- Mark (10/5): Perfect - Beutifull area nice quiet small site run by lovely hosts Nothing
- Margaret (9/5): -
- Warner (9/5): Another enjoyable break at Barnkirk. - Having stayed here on a number of occasions, I really like the accessibility and nearness to the town and countryside in minutes. Facilities are good, Ian , the host obviously reads the reviews! As I had previously mentioned the possible addition of a non slip bath mat in the shower room.He actually popped in within minutes of us arriving and presented us with a mat, and a smile. All good!! Just one more item for you Ian, the outside light which lights the deck area and steps doesn't seem to be working? tried all the switches without success, could be a bulb has blown? Something to keep you busy during an idle moment!! Haaa haaa. Thanks see you again in the near future. Noted above just a lack of light in tge deck / Steps area.
- Graham (7/5): Location is very quiet. Unfortunately their is a bad smell in the caravan, needs a deep clean - Nice quiet location The smell in the caravan
- Pauline (10/5): - Convenient for touring the area y There was nothing to dislike
- Amanda (10/5): -
- Rebecca (9/5): Had a lovely, restful if soggy stay! - It was extremely comfortable good bed
Black out curtains 👌
Well equipped
Lovely location
- shah jamal (9/5): lovely getaway ideal location host was spot on - Location was perfect
Nice and peaceful get away
host was great
- Aqrab (5/5): Nice little caravan - We rented two caravans, so these comments apply to them.
The facilities provided were good, the kitchen was well-equipped, the toilet and shower worked well, the heating was effective, and the location was nice: very remote yet still easily accessible. The cleaning was poor — there were still a lot of cobwebs inside the caravans, and the outdoor seating area was covered in them. I had expected this to be cleaned before guests arrived.
One of the caravans also had an unpleasant stench, which is definitely not something you want on a holiday.
- Oetse Haagsma (9/5): -
- Mick (9/5): - A relaxing and well equipped mobile home. An excellent position for exploring the west side of the Galloway Hills and coast.
- Mark (9/5): - The location was brilliant, with lovely views and seeing the cows every morning was a bonus. So peaceful Personally, for me(bad knees) the step to the holiday home was a bit steep
- Ruairidh (10/5): - not the easiest place to find but vant fault it for the peace and quiet just what I needed
- Ewa (8/5): Highly recommend, I will go back there again!!! - Peace, quiet and relaxation in a place surrounded by beautiful Scottish nature. Midges
- Elaine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Janice (8/5): Very good - Great location The midges
- Nichola (8/5): Tranquil country location conveniently near Newton Stewart - Helpful welcoming host. Comfortable, warm property. Spacious kitchen/living area. Good kitchen facilities. Great shower. Some difficulty finding the property
- Warner (8/5): Great facilities, in a lovely spot and excellent value. - Having stayed here a number of times before, over the last few years we knew what to expect and our regular return, would I believe show our appreciation for Barnkirk as a base for us. One small item that might be worth considering is a shower mat on the floor outside the cubicle? The floor being laminate can become a little slippery when wet even a rubber suckered type bath mat might serve well, and be virtually maintenance free.
The other odd situation was that the occupants of a neighbouring caravan, had the TV or Radio on pretty loudly all night each night !! I'm not sure why but as they had a couple of dogs, we wondered whether this was a distraction technique, as I am aware that some dogs don't settle too well in unfamiliar surroundings and many different ploys are used to overcome this!! We've never encountered this issue previously, so have put it down as a one off!!
- Gregsant (10/5): Wind Farm Works - Very comfortable caravan.
Large Fridge Freezer
Powerful Shower
Handy Location for on-going wind farm works. Air vents in bedroom could do with a clean.
- Sloane-stanley (9/5): A really lovely stay and when I am next in Dumfriesshire I will definitely book again. - A clean comfortable park home which was warm, clean, had a nice power shower and lovely views over open countryside. Also nice and quiet. There were only 3 park homes on site and it felt relaxed and informal. in a lovely location with easy access to some terrific parts of Dumfriesshire. Good supermarkets 5 mins away by car in Newton Stewart Not a massive issue but you need to bring your own bath towel, these are not provided.
- Lynn (8/5): Peaceful and relaxing - We loved the peace of the caravan.
- Horry (10/5): Exceptional - Loved the location, very quiet and no light pollution so you can see all the stars. Also, a big bonus, you can wake up to farm animals grazing right outside your window. Would definitely recommend it to my friends and family.
- Ruby (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anthony (10/5): A short walk into town, but if your prepared to drive a little everything is on your door step for days out - Had everything you needed, central heating double glazing, parking, excellent shower.
- Sutcliffe (10/5): Exceptional - it was lovely sat out side at night watching the stars. than we when again and taking are telescopic love it.
- Beverley (8/5): Very good - Great peaceful location. It was very warm, the bed was comfortable, and the shower was excellent.
The couple who owned and ran it were friendly and helpful during our stay The caravan was a bit tired and could do with a bit of a refurbishment. It smelt musty when we first arrived, and some of the cooking utensils and pans are past their best.
- Larmour (10/5): Brilliant long weekend in the country - Spotless caravan with everything you would need. Surrounding area idyllic. We would definitely return. No issues at all.
- Suzanne (9/5): Superb - Excellent location, very peaceful and well equipped caravan
Fantastic value for money
Will deffo book again!
- Mamie (5/5): Disappointing, wanted somewhere we could leave car and just walk with our dog - Being away for a break Disappointed to be told we couldn’t let our fog play in the field as farmer had said previous visitors had left poo behind. We had to take the dog in the car to somewhere he could be walked. If we had known this we wouldn’t have booked this particular host. Defeated the purpose of taking the fog . Also the caravan was very “tired” looking and inside could have used a good freshen up
- Kevin (10/5): Excellent accommodation and location -
- Domenico (10/5): Great host and place, and amazing value for money - These caravans are awesome, great view of the stars by night and it’s a very convenient location if you have got a car It could have been a bit more clean (quite a few spiders, but nothing concerning!)
- Dave (7/5): Not a lot going on in the area , we used it as a base and had to travel reasonable distances to visit locations, Glasgow - Clean , Tidy , just what we needed.
Ideal to use as a base. Very secluded and quiet location, not a lot going on.
Ideal to use as a base.
- Susanne (8/5): Very good - Quite location friendly people excellent for the price Only one think the smell wasn't pleasant in the caravan and we think it was coming from the double bedroom. I think the previous people must of had a dog and it's left a bad smell behind but went to the local shops and got some spray to mask the smell but apart from that ten out of ten.
- James (9/5): Stunning cottage and great for family. - Nice spacious cottage.
Lovely views from conservatory.
Comfy beds and nice large living room.
Nice touch to provide soaps, toilet rolls, kitchen roll, etc. Few cobwebs and spiders but this is to be expected in countryside location so not a massive issue. Some taps were bit stiff.
- Valerie (8/5): Very good - Really clean comfortable and cosy, in a peaceful setting and pretty much everything we needed. Twin beds are small, but comfortable matresses.
- Cathy (10/5): Lovely. Hope to book again - The location was great and really close to the town There were a few things we weren’t expecting, like loads of local and tourist info, and a small selection of tea and coffee. There were even a couple of jigsaws and books. The caravan was clean and comfortable.
- Martin (10/5): Great caravan experience - Excellent caravan with all the facilities you meed for your break. Clean , well-equipped in a rural location with views over rolling fields. All good.
- Fionna (10/5): Perfect recharge holiday, you won't get better - It was so peaceful, location was fabulous, myself and daughter with the dogs, needed somewhere to relax and totally switch off and this delivered all.
Caravan was excellent, very clean, well fitted out and very comfortable. Hopefully coming back again 😁😁 Nothing
- Birkett (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jade (10/5): It was a lovely quiet holiday park we would stay here again. - It was a lovely caravan my kids loved it. It had all the essentials that we needed for cooking. It had plenty space for the 5 of us. Hosts were helpful when we asked questions.
- Wendy (9/5): Quiet locationgreat base for visiting the area - Quiet location - clean accommodation Mobile home clean if a bit tired
- Alison (9/5): Superb -
- Tain (9/5): Superb -
- Caron (10/5): Very enjoyable and peaceful. - Lovely quiet location only 3 caravans and a cottage on site. Ideal for visiting Dumfries & Galloway area. Close to all amenities in Newton Stewart. Highly recommend and will use again.
- Pam (10/5): A great stay - We had caravan No.3 (of 3) at the end of the row and looked out on to miles of open countryside, couldn't believe our luck! The accommodation was very clean and comfortable, the shower was powerful, the kitchen was well equipped and we very much enjoyed our stay. There was a track through farmland for walking our dogs. The weather wasn't great but it didn't spoil our break away, we did a lot of our favourite walks. Unfortunately, on our last night the occupants of No. 2 caravan turned up at midnight and sat outside talking loudly until 2am so we couldn't sleep until they went to bed. Maybe there needs to be some site rules for people who don't think of anyone but themselves?
- Shirley (8/5): Nice quiet location - Nice caravan, quiet location great for relaxing weekend. Would definitely return N/A
- William (9/5): Superb -
- Amanda (7/5): Good -
- Melissa (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martin (10/5): Beautiful location with very friendly hosts. In the words of Arnie, I'll be back. - Friendly hosts, beautiful and quiet location, lovely caravan. Nothing
- Alice (9/5): Convenient for attending Newton Stewart walking festival. - Location excellent for exploring the area.
- Alyn (10/5): Comfortable, afrdable, welcoming & pieceful. - Location was set just outside Newton Stewart.
Walkable if able and very quiet. Adequate parking for motorbike.
Static van was very clean and all the necessities required. Ian was very friendly and offered any help if required. Nothing.
- Linda (10/5): The caravan was in a good location, clean and tidy . Everything spotless. - Clean, tidy every thing you needed on hand Everything was ok
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional - Quite friendly peaceful The bed was very spingy. we r used to memory form we did have any bath towels luckily had own.
- Gary (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lisa (8/5): Very good -
- India (8/5): Nice and peaceful and good escape - Lovely view outside
Nice and peaceful
Good tv channels
Plenty of space
Working cooking facilities
Comfy beds Not much to do in surrounding areas
- Deborah (10/5): A piece of heaven - The caravan is lovely, and the location is perfect. Very quiet, has the most beautiful views, and you're surrounded by nature. Amenities are within a mile away so easily accessible and we went to the seaside too, which was lovely. I didn't like leaving. I wish I'd have booked for longer!
- Aaron (10/5): Exceptional -
- Derek (10/5): Great stay near the Galloway Forest - Great location, very warm, and plenty of space
- Hudson (10/5): Exceptional - Very clean & cozy Water system & heating froze up in caravan
- Debra (9/5): We had a relaxing and quiet stay highly recommend -
- Margaret (4/5): Disapointing although had a couple of great days out and about. - Self catering Fire in lounge area not working. TV not working properly. No outside lighting, had to buy a torch to take dog out after dark, with steep outdoor stairway to gain access. Not prepared for winter letting although your website states open all year
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jonathan (9/5): Superb - Friendly owners, clean and tidy accommodation, couldn't ask for more.
- Steve (2/5): Could have been a lot better - Location and size of cottage. Large kitchen, 3 bedrooms ensuite toilet 2 with shower, separate bathroom.
The cows next door - they came to say hello!
Able to see Kite and Buzzard and lots of garden birds.
DVD's and Books and guides.
Selection of tea, coffee and plastic milk. No booking in instructions given by host.
Walked into cottage as front door unlocked, then went to knock on the owners door, he told me he thought he was being burgled as knew I had been in the cottage.
Live wasps and a Hornet found in the property found in bedroom on first night, over the week a further 6 wasps were despatched.
Dead wasps found in net curtain upstairs hall.
Wasps found most evenings.
Flies in bedrooms upstairs.
Appalling Wifi - 1/2 bars strength - slow to connect - not work upstairs or in dining room or kitchen
In need of a "Serious" Deep Clean.
Hot water very slow to come on in bathrooms and hot wasn't hot.
Kitchen covering uneven and lifting near fridge.
Up lights dirty with deceased insects, prominent cobwebs in lounge.
Dusty and dirty surfaces in lounge.
Crumbs down side of sofas
Over active fire detector, need to seal off the lounge from the kitchen and have the dining room patio door wide open as extractor inefficient even on full power.
Dirt-trap carpets laid on carpet moved causing trip hazards
Dirty skirting boards.
Extractor caked in grease on sides, tried to clean, but ran out of cleaning fluid.
4 holes drilled above my bed and the twin bedroom beds - could be used for spying on guests?
Nocturnal noises in twin bedroom coming from the loft hatch/roof area
Strange smell in downstairs bathroom like a butchers counter, also some sewage smells around the downstairs bathroom.
- Alan (9/5): Superb - Great location, easy access, fab caravan. The weather 🤣
- Jan (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent quiet property, but still close to local amenities. Beautiful sunset directly adjacent to property. Warm and welcoming with tea coffee and biscuits. Lovely break away. 3 caravans available for groups.
- Jeni (9/5): A perfect quiet space with everything needed for a comfy stay. - Tranquil and peaceful Leaving
- Jonathan (8/5): Very good -
- Derek (8/5): Very good -
- Hilary (8/5): An excellent base for our walking holiday in the Galloway Forest Area -
- Amber (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely little place and a great location to be able to travel to other locations
- Amanda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wendy (9/5): Superb - Caravan was clean and comfortable and well equipped. Very convenient for touring in the area. Easy access to Newtown Stewart, whilst being in the countryside. There was nothing I didn't like.
- Graeme (9/5): A very comfortable and relaxing place to stay. - A good sized caravan which looked quite new. The shower temperature was easy to control. Superb television with very good picture quality and plenty of channel choice. Kitchen had all the utensils that I needed. Lovely rural location which was handy for my walks in the Glen Trool area. The black mugs made it difficult to see how much concentrate I was putting in when making up squash to heat in the microwave. The lighting is not brilliant. When spreading maps out on the floor I got nasal congestion which is something I am prone too.
- Nycole (9/5): Beautiful views, loved the cows... on a clear night we saw so many stars 🌟, all very pleasant - The hosts were wonderful.
The location was spot on for us as we were visiting family around the corner.
Beautiful and clean.
And, as a bonus, they had my favourite galaxy hot chocolate 😁 The steps going up to the accommodation were very steep.
- Keith (7/5): Acceptable stay for a short four night stop - Fully equipped Everything either felt or was grubby
- Elizabeth (3/5): Perfect location, not so perfect property. - The location was perfect. The property needs a detailed deep clean, all skirtings and ledges were covered in dust and dirt. Kitchen surfaces were either sticky or greasy. Had to wash cutlery and crockery before use. Worn carpets covered by rugs and mats which were a trip hazard.
- Cameron (9/5): Excellent - nice tranquil location not far from the town centre. -
- Grzegorz (10/5): Exceptional -
- Patrick (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely weekend with my family, lovely clean caravan in a fantastic location just outside Newton Stewart. Great base for exploring the area.
- Antony (10/5): Exceptional - Great location for touring Dumfries and Galloway area
- Serena (9/5): Everything we needed. Shame the weather didnt match. - Lovely location, hosts were very helpful when we needed some tools for the roof rack. Boiler kept losing pressure, had to keep filling it up. But wasnt that much of a hassle.
- Graham (7/5): Great part of the country, a great base to explore from - Open space living area, comfy bed Cleanliness could be improved especially the kitchen and cooking areas
- Emma (10/5): Perfect - Lovely quiet location Nothing not to like
- Spencer (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely caravan in a really nice quiet area, lots of nice walks to drive to around the Galloway Forest and easy to get to the coast.
- Vera (10/5): Great 4 night stay in Scottish countryside - Lovely location close to local town while being far enough away from it all which is what we want as we dont like busy places. Lots to do nearby if you are into the great outdoors and you don't get robbed for parking unlike a lot of the more touristy places. If you want to see proper Scotland with proper Scottish people this is the place to come. Would like to stay again a few days before heading further north. Non
- William (10/5): We all enjoyed our stay and Ian was the perfect owner (Ian being an X biker Very Friendly chap) - The location of Barnkirk Holidays is perfect for traveling to anywhere you like to visit; we fount it a perfect place to rest before traveling to all the sites you would all like to Visit; even national trust places We phoned for a chippy and found it to be the worst and disgusting chippy that you could have had, the curry sauce was just brown gravy; chips were small left overs the you would throw away; We all had to go to a restaurant for a perfect meal
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nic (9/5): Superb - Lovely place just outside of Newton Stewart. Was lovely to be surrounded by fields and cows! 😊 Difficult to see what traffic is coming as you exit Barnkirk onto the road (that has a 60 mph speed limit). Would benefit from a mirror to allow a full view of the road.
- Fiona (9/5): Peaceful, easy, relaxing. - Was self catering. Had all the the things we needed to cook. Well kept, clean, comfortable caravan.. Friendly host, told us caravan number and off we went to our accommodation. Great out door space, over looking fields with curious cows ( they may bellow through the night but only for a short time). Our out door space gave us total privacy. 40 minute walk into town (back road, probably less busy than Girvan road) and you can request bus to drop you at barnskirk on way back. Friendly people in town and beyond. Taxi also cheap if you fancy a night out and a wee drink. Wobbly table in caravan.
- Stewart (10/5): Exceptional -
- Iona (8/5): Great base for exploring west Galloway. - It was very spacious and peaceful and within driving distance of many lovely walks and beautiful countryside. While the property was dog friendly, there was nowhere nearby for a short walk morning and evening. All the fields round about had either cows or sheep.
- Claire (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was fab, caravan was lovely, location was good. Would definitely stay again Can't fault anything.
