Guest Reviews
- Richi (10/5): Best guide and host in koh mook - This place has a special charming. Being in nature in a camping. But the most important thing is how the owner takes care of you, making sure you visit all the iconic places, sunsets.. he helps you to find the cheapest tickets to go on trips and takes you everywhere when needed. He gives his whatsapp contact and stays in touch with you whenever you need it. Thanks for everything Yai. I really appreciate all your help and friendship during this trip

- Josef (10/5): Mr. Yai is the best - Mr. Yai je úžasný a milý člověk. Jeho přítomnost nám celý pobyt zpříjemnila! Při našem příjezdu nás vyzvedl u lodi a večer nás svezl na západ slunce:-) Druhý den ráno zprostředkoval půjčení kajaku a odvezl nás k němu zdarma, je to frajer.
Spali jsme ve stanu, kde je větrák. Za tu cenu zcela adekvátní vybavení a komfort, skvělý zážitek.

- wathinee (10/5): -
- Giorgia (6/5): - Il proprietario é molto gentile e disponibile.
- Lenny (10/5): - Great place in Koh Mook. Nice location in a cashew nut tree field, definitely a bit rustic which I personally like. Yai will organise independent snorkelling, kayaking and trips every day to sunset beach which is lovely (I don’t think anywhere else on the island does this) Mosquito nets should be replaced as they have quite a few holes.
- Wen Chin (10/5): -
- Globetrotter118 (10/5): Spacious and comfy tents - Just 350 m from the ferry. For a tent camp site it's excellent. A handful of large tents are scattered around in a huge garden, under the shade of big Cashew Nut trees. You won't have your neighbors on your doorstep here. Even 2 giants with king-size wheely bags will easily fit inside the tents, and a western person can stand upright inside. There's also a canopy outside the tents and 2 chairs. The mattresses and pillows were very comfortable. The tents have a lot of ventilation so it gets nice and breezy. It's run by a very friendly elderly guy. I only booked 2 nights because that was as long as my power banks would last. I was worried about having to leave my things to charge in a common area, but then the tents turn out to have lights, a FAN, and 2 spare outlets for you to charge your things. I wish I had booked more nights. Common bathrooms were spacious and as clean as a camp site can be. That's the nature of all this nature.
Several cheap eateries nearby and a mini market just a few meters down the street. It was nothing I didn't like.

- Bethany (10/5): Kind, generous owner in a cashew orchard - Been travelling for 6 months and this was the nicest and most generous owner of a place we’ve ever stayed at.
He provides a free taxi service to and from the sunset beach everyday, he has so much information on tours and activities across the island, fresh mangos from his trees, and he will show you how to prepare and roast cashew nuts!!
We met lots of other lovely guests. The tents are very spacious and do not get too hot at night! The location is great, lots of delicious restaurants and cafes very close by.
- Is Me.
- Jessica (10/5): Incredible host - You will not find a better host than Yai!! Thank you so much for everything. He goes above and beyond to make your stay the best it can be, always there with an offer to take you to the beach for sunset, always there to help you book any transport or day trips, and with good recommendations. I have never before had a host so helpful and friendly. Thank you again It’s a campsite, so I found it difficult to keep clean. The stray dogs are also very intense but this is the case for most of the island!
- Anthony Keir (8/5): Wonderful host, nothing was too much trouble - Wonderful host who was so helpful and friendly ,collected us and our luggage from the pier and dropped us off when we left. As well as provided us with a huge amount of free mangoes and showed us how to roast cashew nuts. He also drove us across to a lovely beach on the other side of the island so we could view the sunset. The mattresses in the tent were the blow up type and were not very comfortable
- sylvie (10/5): - The host is super kind and helpful . He did his best to show us places and organise activities for us. We really appreciated . The tent was big, bed confortables, fan ! Shared bathroom is simple and clean. We will never forget Yai and cashew nut bungalows in Khoo Mook ♥️
- Miroslav (10/5): -
- Angelica (10/5): - Yai is such a kind soul who puts a lot of love into his business and customers! Cashew Nut itself is in a great location and provides a very natural, local experience. Thanks again Yai!!
- Liam (10/5): I had a great stay at the cashew nut bungalow. The highlight the great host who goes above and beyond. This also alllows -
RAS
- Harry (10/5): Peaceful, camping experience - Peaceful, owner is so friendly and gives free taxi to beach at 5 and offers information on whattsapp.
Merci beaucoup
- Nemanja (10/5): - Excellent location! Very peaceful, you can hear the birds all the time. It is tucked away from the main road, surrounded by greenery and plenty of space.
The owner is one of the best hosts we have met in Thailand. He lives on-site and puts his whole heart into the place.
His approach is wonderful,he offers help with everything and, if you’re open to it, he can truly become a friend on your journey. The place is very simple and rustic.
Our bungalow was quite humid and stuffy without air conditioning.
Some maintenance is definitely needed: the mosquito nets are damaged, the roof needs fixing, and we were concerned about rats running above us.
The property would also benefit from a bit of a cleanup, as there is some rubbish and clutter in the garden areas.
- Filippo (10/5): -
- Bruno (10/5): Yai is the best host on the island! Super recommend - Perfect Location and Yai is a super host Me gusto todo
- Ghizlane (10/5): - Unique stay! Stunned by the hospitality! Perfect location! Will come here again
- JOSEPH (10/5): - Yai Yai, the Hakka Thai
He takes you in his taxi
and it makes you fly
We very much enjoyed our stay in Cashew Nut
It's simple and environmentally better than most places you'll stay in Thailand. Free water full ups and Yai will take you to and from Charlie beach for free which was great. Also met a great bunch of people in the place. Proper old backpackers place set in a cashew tree orchard where we saw (and heard) woodpeckers.
30 mins walk to the beach and great restaurants 50m away. Thanks Yai
- Joshua (10/5): STAY HERE!!!! - STAY HERE!!!
I can't say anything about the other stays on koh muk but after staying here I don't think I ever will! I will always return here! Both the bungalows and the tents are great I stayed in both! Very simple but has everything you need! But as im sure you've seen in other reviews what really makes this place is Yae the owner! He is amazing and will make anyone's stay a dream! He will take you to see the sunset any night you wish to go, book tours to emerald cave for you, show and tell you about different trails and viewpoints on the island you can explore! He also loves nature so much and is so knowledgeable about everything nature! He cares for his land like its his child, from the trees to the plants to the animals he loves them all and he has great plans for this place in the future! We became good friends and he helped me a lot whilst on the island!
Word of advice for the island istelf! Bring cash! There is one cashpoint on the island and it isnt always working!
Thankyou yae for an amazing experience here i can't wait to return! 😁
Rien
- Smith (9/5): - Nice location in middle of the island, nice hut amongst the trees. Mr Yai, the host, was lovely and very helpful. Stray dogs were hanging about the place.
- Katie (10/5): Off -Season Stay - The host makes this place, he is welcoming, generous, knowledgeable and introduced me to the island by taking me to the sunset beach for the evening. He gave me recommendations for my stay and helped me arrange my tour.
The accommodation itself is basic but functional, it's very well priced and a great way to experience the island authentically.
The island itself is lovely, a really authentically Thai style of life not (yet) overrun by corporations and resorts.
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nathan (10/5): Booked for a night, stayed for 4 nights. - I booked a tent for a single night and ended up staying for 4 nights. The location is right in the centre of the island, close to everything. Staying in the tent was great, and I felt very immersed in my surroundings. It rained heavily and no rain got in. The tent was clean and I also didn’t have any problems with insects.
The best part of the stay was the host, Yai. He picked me up and dropped me off at the pier and showed me and the other guests around the island.
Each day he drove us around the island and took us on hikes and viewpoints, also very informative throughout the free tour, also stopping us at great bars and restaurants.
Yai was a lovely person to be around and he genuinely loved showing us around. This was a great experience and I highly recommend the place! Nothing
- Csilla (10/5): Amazing!!!! - I stayed in one of the tents and absolutely loved the entire trip. I’m travelling solo but never once felt alone. Yai, the host, is incredible, super friendly and always happy to help. We watched the sunset together every evening, which was such a wholesome part of the experience. We also did a jungle hike to a viewpoint and checked out some beaches.
He can also help with booking transport when you’re leaving, and even organise a boat trip to the Emerald Cave or a snorkelling tour. Just ask, he’ll always do his best to help out!
The location is perfect, right in the centre but with a remote, peaceful feel that I really loved. Each night, we’d head out for dinner as a group, which made it even more special.
Thank you Yai! 😊✨ Honestly, I have zero complaints. I’ll 100% be coming back on my next trip to Thailand.
- Moods62 (6/5): Koh Mook Huts - Sleeping in a room that does not require air con and only a fan is perfect. The trees and shade from the trees most welcoming. Still a lotto be done and unfortunately only one person maintaining the property. Steep steps to accom if staying in a room, not a tent. Toilets a d showers about 30 metre away and after shower you must tend with walking through dirt again back to the room or tent. Everything is basic at its best. Thailand islands are bloody expensive compared to regional Thailand and it's disappointing to see what they
Provide fir your money.
- Romina (10/5): Loved it!! - I enjoyed the stay so much! I stayed in a tent and even though its right in the city center, its super quiet at night. Still feels like sleeping in the jungle with all the nature sounds around :) Yai was the best host and i was taken care of so well! Will definitely come back! Thank you so much for everything!
- Sara (10/5): The nicest place on this beautiful island - I absolutely loved staying in Yai’s tent under the cashew trees! Even with rain one night, it was very comfortable and I even had a fan, light and outlets to charge my phone in the tent! But the best thing has to be Yai’s hospitality and his two volunteers! He took me everywhere for free and even helped me with the perfect time to kayak so I don’t have too many waves or too many other tourists there. And I really fell in love with Koh Muk! It felt like staying with family. Since it’s a tent it won’t be as clean as some other rooms but I feel like that should be clear when you book a tent :)
- Samuele (8/5): Very good -
- Lea (4/5): Disappointing - The owner is really nice, he helped us a lot to rent scooters, book ferry and took us to see the sunset ! It’s very minimal comfort, not super clean, there are a lot of dogs hanging around too. The place would need a bit more of attention.
If you’re looking to rest and chill it might not be the best place to stay.
- Siripun (7/5): Good experience sleeping in a tent underneath the cashew nut trees. - The location is very close to the centre easy to get some food and walk to the beach. The owner is very helpful and friendly. It is a bit dark at night. We are sleeping underneath the cashew nut trees, and at night cashew nuts fall down our tent which makes me Frightened. The tent is very old.
- Benjamin (7/5): Did the job - It was okay. Tent was spacious and at the end of the day, you’re staying in a tent. It was only for 1 night so we didn’t mind and it is nice to be in a big garden with nature. Stray dogs congregate at the entrance of the site, which made coming in and out of our tent a bit sketchy at night, but I think most of them are friendly and just curious.
- Carolina (10/5): Best owner - The owner was the best part of my stay. The best host I’ve had, very helpful and will make your stay as comfortable as possible. He will take you anywhere you’d like to go and is always available to help. Genuinely wants his guests to be happy.
- Expeditionsolo (8/5): Very good -
- Lawrence (10/5): Exceptional - I loved this place. The owner makes it what it is, he is very accommodating and helpful. If I return to Koh Mook I would stay here again without any hesitation. Even if it is booked out on the website, he has other accomodation opens, he can also book tour, mopeds and travel ticket from Koh mook for affordable prices.
- Elisa (8/5): Very good - The host was exceptionally kind and helpful, he picked us up at the pier and offered to take us see the sunset in the evening. He helped us with everything and was overall so nice and always with a smile on his face, that made us really happy. Great position and big bathroom with shower
Unfortunately we had been sick since the night before, hoped to get better but in the end we couldn’t manage not having a private bathroom for our condition, so we ended up having to change accommodation due to our personal problems. The host was very helpful also in this situation and immediately managed to get us a refund even if the problem was ours and not his, so we thank him for that! many dogs but it’s a problem in almost every accommodation on the island
- Vlad (1/5): Average camping with agressive, erratic & violent owner - It is very central from the main Koh Mook pier but there are so many better options in the same area and the island is so walkable that I would not put my life in danger and be at the mercy of a crazy owner as we were. I recommend choosing any other place!! The owner was by far the biggest problem for us. He became aggresive when called put on a problem and HE TRIED TO ATTACK MY WIFE AND TO PULL A KNIFE ON ME!!!
Other problems:
- he gives no mosquito repellent even though the place is full of mosquitos
- there is no hot water in the shower
- there is no refrigerator/no kitchen
- there is no place to lock your valuables
The full story here:
We asked him to recommend another place to stay as his was fully booked for the upcoming nights. At first he said no problem and said that he has a friend with free bungalows and even offered to drive us to see the place. In the end time passed, we did not book anything and then he said that we should not count on him. He tricked us and we were left with no accomodation on Koh Mook. This was really stressful! When we decided to talk to him to tell him that he should not offer to help if he knew that it was all a lie because he caused a lot of harm to us! He then became really aggresive all of a sudden and started shouting and yelling at us. We tried multiple times to tell him to go away and to just leave us alone but he could not stop. It gave us the impression that he had been drinking or that he was on drugs. After a while he tried to put his hands on my wife, which was a red line for me. Of course I stopped him and that was the time when we tried to find A KNIFE in his kitchen in order to attack me. Thank God he could not find one! Just imagine, whoever you are reading this, how difficult this was for me and my wife. We tried to reach out to Booking.com to cancel the booking, we called and also sent a message but in true Booking fashion they only offered words of apology and NO ACTUAL HELP even though this place was booked through them! Nothing since then, no money back no nothing!
- Yahya (10/5): Exceptional - Very good and responsive host. Help you to navigate around. Nothing really.
- Francesca (10/5): Helpful host, great location - basic accommodation - Our host was so so helpful! Drove us to charlie beach for sunset. Location is excellent It's very basic accommodation but it's all there!
- Clare (8/5): Very good - Location was great and the man in charge is lovely. He gave me a free taxi to the pier for my trip out and a last minute free taxi to meet my transfer.
He had lots of info and I booked my day trip with him. A very happy man 😊 I didn't have my own bathroom. However, shared facilities weren't a problem, were clean and I never had to wait. I'm told the bathroom will be added to the room I had this year.
- Sungbeom (1/5): Koh Muk Nightmare - the raw nature. if you want to have jugle feeling. I booked a 2 night stay, and when I went to bed on the second night, someone was sleeping.
It was very shocking. owner made double booking.
I got angry at the owner, but he didn't seem sorry.
When I asked for a refund, I got angry because I didn't like the owner's attitude. He threw the money at me and got even angrier.
The friendliness I saw in the reviews? None at all, just one scary, threatening beast at late night.
who made a mistake??
should I be more nicer to him at that moment??
he kept shouting at me with red face and anger. only thing I should do that time run away from him.
its a nightmare..
- Shraddha (8/5): Nicest owner and most affordable stay at Koh Mook! - Kashew Nut Bungalows is one of the most affordable stays on the otherwise resort-filled Ko Muk Island. It is located in a central location, at a walking distance from the Pier, Sivalai Beach and various eating options. The property is owned and managed by the wonderful Mr.Yai, who knows the best places to explore on the island and can arrange transfers and tours for you at decent rates. He also ferries guests around the island on his motorbike if he is free. I stayed in a tent in the property, which was roomy, with electicity and fan. The common bathroom was decent. The island itself is wonderful (though busy!), with various hiking, kayaking and snorkeling options available.
- Markboa (8/5): It’s very wild place perfect for relaxing and sleeping well -
- Juan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Juan (10/5): Exceptional - The owner was very welcoming and kind, he took us on a hike on our arrival and the picked us up from the beach for free. He just wants to make sure the guests are happy and enjoying Koh Muk, I think the place is very special. Keep in mind is very barebones, like a tent in the middle of an jungle, but if you don’t mind that, you will be fine. Need some work.
- Nikola (9/5): Great accommodation in koh mook! - The host himself is the best! Very carrying, brings you to the charlie beach when he is free. We also booked a great snorkelling tour with him to the emerald cave and koh kradan (do the tour at 7.30!!! When we left the cave sooooo many people went in, was even hard to swim).
- Milena (9/5): Superb - Great host, he picked me up from the pier and even drove me to sunset beach, he made my stay even more enjoyable.
- Beatrice (10/5): Exceptional - owner super nice and helpful. drove all around the island and gave recommendations of activities👍
- Ana (10/5): Exceptional - The owner, was very nice and offered to take us to see the sunset and picked us up at the pier
- Sashko (10/5): Exceptional - Yai is a great person and he do likes to hang out with the tourists! He took Mr and another people that just arrieved at Charlie's beach with his taxi motorcycle for free and he also drop me off at the harbour for my next destination! Yai open few bunk beds for the hostel!
Thank you very much
- Emma (7/5): Good - The host, Yai, is an incredibly friendly and helpful man. Allowed me to use the kitchen area (albeit a bit under-done, and dusty...perhaps off season?).
The tent was kind of what I was expecting, spacious, comfortable, with electricity! But the site was diffetent to what I was expecting. Much larger, but thats not nevessarily a plus for solo. Large. But little people and interaction....
Could be good for a couple or a family!
Ofcourse, the tents get a bit sandy, but Yai does his best to keep the place clean.
He was mowing the grass and fixing things, in preperation for busy season....
I believe I just caught the island in a quiet lull. Chose Koh Mook for its quiet, and that is what I got ! :)
Thank you Yai, g0odluck!! The place was somewhat untidy, and a little under maintained. Lots of mosquitos ! (But thats not the fault of Yai!)
- Harper (10/5): Yai was such a great host, took the time to show me around Koh Muk and did everything he could to ensure I had a great e - Loved the experience and being able to camp in beautiful scenery.
- Palak (10/5): Amazing Stay in the Nature - Thank you so much YAI. You were the best host! Even I just stayed for a night, he went beyond to help. Thanks for picking and dropping at the pier. Also it was off season time so kind of nothing on the island much to do, but Yai took me to watch the sunset and then to his friends bar. It was lovely and amazing to watch the sunset.
Loved the Tent stay,. I was alone for such a spacious tent, lot of space. Perfect jungle vibes, open nature and surrounded by lots of cashew tree. Wish there was a WIFI until inside the tents. As of not WIFI only at the reception.
- Ana (10/5): Really good - The owner is really nice and friendly and will help you with all. .
- Tisja (6/5): Pleasant -
- Aris (9/5): Superb - Nice rustic spot and the owner is amazing and helpful with everything:)
- Carla (8/5): It was my birthday. I wanted to sleep in a tent. I couldn’t have picked a better place or host. - YAI was the best host ever ❤️😀. I miss him. 🥲 He always went above and beyond and usually far above and beyond. I LOVED my tent. Under the trees was fabulous. It was so big. I wish him nothing but success in the future. The wifi didn’t seem to work well for my old IPhone 8. But I had data and lots of places all around had wifi.
- Ryan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jonah (9/5): Rustic camping and beach jumping on a beautiful island - Yai is a very good host and is very knowledgeable and accommodating. Very glad I stayed at his place. Overall a very enjoyable section of my journey The shower was a little inconsistent and the pressure would come and go.
- Zara (10/5): A relaxing place to stay if you need a break from the busier islands. A home away from home. - Very warm and friendly owner, the atmosphere of the place felt very open and authentic. Yai picked us up from the pier, drove us to the beach for the sunset, and roasted cashew nuts for us. He was very helpful in booking everything for us - snorkel tour, scooter, and our ferry to Koh lanta. Everything went very smoothly.
It was a very cool experience to sleep with all the animal noises around us. There were always dogs around who were very friendly! Especially one dog who would guard our tent at night. The owners nieces and nephew were very cute, it was fun to play with them.
- Yulia (8/5): Interesting experience! Sleeping in nature! Very quiet with natural sounds. The host took me to the other beach, so I di - Location was good. Not far from the sea and shops. A host was amazing, easy going guy who helped with everything. Area of a place is not in the best state. Shared bathroom sometimes were needed to be cleaned. No good pavement on the way to tent.
- Sara (8/5): It's an experience - I really like the host, he took us up to see the sunset and cave us some cashew nuts which is a really cool experience, camping amoust the cashew trees is something different and unquie.
. Plugs and fan in tent, and towels given. Bathroom always clean, and great location. One day would have been a cool experience, two nights was abit difficult due to it being so hot and abit to rough and ready for us. We love camping in the UK - however camping in thailand is very different. Its very hot and lots and lots of ants, , and no chairs to sit outside the tent on (so had to lie in the tent during the day when escaping the sun). The toilets were clean but basic and the campsite needs cleaning/ removing bottles, and planting more greenery.
Doesn't look like the pictures currently, as its been burning season no grass/ lots of sand/Ash on the floor which gets on all our belongings. Would be good to have water bowls outside each tent so we could clean our feet before entering the tent. As our feet got so dirty when walking to the tent even with crocs and sandles (the whole of the tent became sandy and uncomfortable)
No hot water in bathroom (however as it's so hot cold showers were nice)
The place needs abit of TLC, tent floors ripped, as I said no where to sit during the day/night. Outside of tent dirty (windows could be cleaned so you can see through), lots of rubbish dotted around the grounds. The mattresses in the tent have seen better days.
The owner/family is really cool and that makes the experience!
It doesn't cost alot so I can't be expecting alot, we love camping however this was abit to rough and ready for us, and we would probably preferred a room not a tent so we could enjoy the island, as its so hot in April.
- Gloria (10/5): Exceptional - Yai who runs the place is absolutely divine! I came to the island solo and left feeling like one of the locals, welcome and in love with the island and the whole place! I stayed in a tent it was spacious, comfortable and clean, and incredible value for money. Yai took me around on his bike taxi whenever I needed to get somewhere. He even came and helped me and some friends on our mission to clean a beach! By far the best place I have stayed on my travels so far in terms of being involved with the locals and meeting new people. Love! Nothing!
- Cadorette-plourde (10/5): Relaxing cashew hut - Our host was wonderful and created a unique experience for us. He took us to see the sunset and would suggest us many activities! Sleeping amongst the cashew tree was very nice, we booked a hut and it felt very private which was nice. We ended up booking 3 more nights
- Simon (10/5): Lovely stay at a heartwarming family - Host very helpful, available and welcoming. They helped us a lot to get around the island.
The tents are very confortable, spacious, with real bed mats, no mosquitos and a silent fan.
- -giosue (10/5): Exceptional - The Cashew Nut Bungalows are a lovely place to stay amongst a grove of mature cashew trees. We stayed in a tent and in a bungalow and liked them both. The beds are comfortable too. There is both hot and cold water and a kitchen at the front near the road and a nice little shop with some really rad clothes. The best part about the Cashew Nut Bungalow is Mr. Yai, the owner. He went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable and he’s an all-around great person. He even drove a group of us (like 400 lbs of humans!) in his motorbike sidecar out to Charlie Beach to catch the sunset. We originally planned to stay four days and ended up extending to two weeks! Highly recommended for the chill, budget travelers.
- Kasper (10/5): Exceptional - Yai, the host, was amazing and made our stay very pleasant. He even took us around on his scooter multiple times. He was always ready to have a talk, give information and he was always smiling and welcoming. The tents are comfortable
- Stefan (9/5): Excelent Host! - Yai is the best Host ever! He knows everyone on the Island! He Drives you around and organises Trips. He Shows you how to make cashews and much more. Be aware that your Feet will be black because of the ashes.
- Sari (5/5): Passable - The location. Good price. Nice staff. A bit dirty. A lot of noice in the tent from the wildlife in the garden. Bats, birds, wild dogs, spiders, cockroaches etc.
