- Anto (3/5): Poor - The lodge is close to town. about 5 minutes to the town I recently stayed at Riverside Lodge Paihia and unfortunately, it wasn't a pleasant experience. I had booked a one-bedroom apartment, but upon arrival, I was informed that the apartment was unavailable, and there was no prior notice or communication about this change. Additionally, the Wi-Fi was very poor and didn’t reach the rooms, making it difficult to stay connected. The staff was often not at the reception, and we had to ring the bell multiple times to get their attention. On some occasions, they didn't respond when we needed assistance. Overall, I am quite dissatisfied with my stay and wouldn't recommend this place for families.

- Samuel (4/5): Disappointing - Photos misleading. Extremely run down/tired.. My room was lounge, bedroom and bathroom. The bathroom was actually rather nice, having been renovated at some point, however there was a continuous dripping noise from the wall by the cistern tap. Tried turning it off, made no difference. Was so loud, even with the bathroom door shut, I had to sleep in the single bed in the lounge. The noisy fridge was a preferred option.. So... a small kitchenette. Microwave, bar fridge and jug. One plate and a microwave style covered bowl. Absolutely nothing else! No toaster, no mugs, crockery or cutlery. No milk, no tea or coffee. No tea towel. There was a sponge/scour pad and some dish wash liquid.. Thankfully I had brought my camping equipment, so I had all the things I needed.. I know it's budget accommodation, however I believe these basic things should be supplied. I don't believe I've ever stayed anywhere they haven't been.. I also suspect it's used as emergency housing, although I can't prove that.. Be very aware people! Good luck! Haha Ps ant infestation on kitchen bench...

You couldn't lean back against the headboard to catch up on messages/emails etc. Was very uncomfortable. Couldn't Lounge around on the chairs, they were the fold down ones Have a great👍👌community area though; kitchen: you provide your own food of course, comfortable lounge area and dining zone that leads out onto a huge deck that overlooked the river. Lots of seating for people to chill out on Great place to hang out and relax Overall a great place to come back too Didn't really have much interaction with staff We usually got back very late

We chose this place because it offered air conditioning and we were not disappointed. The towels were a bit like sandpaper though. Great for exfoliation! Our host was lively and helpful and welcoming.

The room was ok. In fact it had really useful features like hooks and magnetic shower closures. Some common areas were just dirty. We didn't need to use it but the laundry was out of action. The kitchen had almost no equipment, which was a challenge to self-cater in!

It is expensive a little too far from shops and restaurants to walk. Entrance to the site was difficult to find being almost concealed by bushes, and there is a steep but short potholed slope to negotiate when entering and leaving the site. There are no facilities for making hot drinks in the rooms. There's a clean modern communal kitchen available for the use of guests.

- Verified traveler (4/5): Bleh - I stay in many Motels, around 10 per month on Avg. Maybe im spoilt but this one was simply just Bleh considering the cost. Share kitchen which was ok, i ate out instead, but no kettle or jug in room to make a cuppa, no chairs to sit on, bed was ok comfy but moved when sitting as its on wheels, No matter what i did could not get any channels on the tv, so read a book!! Shower was GREAT, good pressure, clean and roomy. I did have a rack to put my suitcase on, Tick, just a rail for clothes which is fine, just overnight so no biggie. The whole complex is run down sorry to say, needs TLC. The grounds are ivergrown, weeds along the paths and driveways, parking area etc I think my room has those Garage style carpet tiles?? I would stay again if thats all there was left, but sadly would go to another town first given the chance.

Unfortunately the upkeep just hasn't been keep in check. Everything is dated and many things are non functioning or broken. The Washing machine was broken during our stay. Like I said, not terrible but not great either. Such a great prospect if it was brought back to life again. I hope the owners are able to get it back to a great standard again someday.

- Andy (4/5): A grubby motel that really needs a lot of attention to bring it up to a reasonable standard - Friendly family owned motel. Bathroom was very small but good shower. Location by the river and close to the falls is good Communal facilities were filthy, especially the kitchen extractors and lighting. Floors and furniture need a deep clean. Dishwasher is out of order and clearly has been for some time. Shared fridge is dirty. Carpets in corridors were also very grubby. Door to external communal area had no handle on the outside so if the door closed you couldn't get back in! Double room was very cramped and although a fridge was squeezed into one corner there was no kettle or tea/coffee in the room. Bathroom window didnt close properly. Walls are very thin and you can hear other guests during the night.

Pull out couch as well as 2 beds upstairs. Shared kitchen had everything available for own cooking. Nice main lounge area for relaxing/ dining. Scenic river views and close walk to Haruru Falls. Standard condition for a 3 star motel with some cosmetic water marking but facilities were still clean. A couple of extra sheets would've been nice as my teens didn't want to share the queen bed. Extra blankets & pillows were available for the pullout couch though.

- Brenten (8/5): Clean, tidy and nice. - Quiet area just out of town Response time from managers. Waited about 15 minutes before someone greeted us. Saying that was a lovely lady.

- Georgia (6/5): Pleasant - We literally just came to slp for a night.. So was reasonable for that purpose. The dining area was decent size, reasonably clean and tidy as we bought in some fish n chips and needed a place to eat. Nice touch was the toothbrush and toothpaste provided The room was extremely small compared to other places we have stayed in the area for less amount of $. The bed was a bit bouncy and moved around with any movement given.

- Kim (3/5): Be prepared for a backpacker experience. - The room was air conditioned which was probably the best thing about our stay. The beds were comfortable. We had access to the car park via a door from our room. We booked for 2 nights at this property, at the last minute and was one of the last places available in Paihia. We paid over double what we had paid elsewhere. We were greeted by a friendly women who showed us to our room. The place was very tired and needs a good upgrade, it is more like a very rustic backpackers than a motel. The bathroom was tiny and shower curtain was also tiny and didn’t close properly. On our first night we had a bar fridge with some mini-milks, but no kettle or tea and coffee. And weirdly on the second day a kettle with tea and coffee appeared along with a second pillow each. We had read the reviews about the thin walls, which is totally true, and we weren’t surprised to find ear plugs supplied, luckily we didn’t need to use them. The main noise we heard was the owner’s kids running around in their lodging above our room. The communal kitchen was spacious but we were disgusted to find the fridge stinky from food left by guests which had gone mouldy and sour milk overflowing in the bottom tray, very much in need of a clean out by the owners.. Needless to say we only used the bar fridge in the bedroom.
