Guest Reviews
- Timothy 72 (10/5): Road trip - Amazing location, mark the landlord was really helpfull, told us about trails and waliks near by, amazing stay comfortable
- Kimberley (7/5): Mark did his best to ensure stay was pleasant just baffled why we didn't get Twin room we booked ? - Breakfast was excellent and the host did his best to make our stay a pleasant one upon arrival at Lantern pike hotel .....despite my long ago booking being made clearly for a twin room ....i was advised that the twin room was not available .....and my option was to be accomadated in a double room with an air bed ...or a call could be made to an alternative hotel in glossop for possible accomadation . As it was 5.30pm ....and my friend and i had travelled from Orkney by ferry departing at 11,45 pm the previous night and had driven down for 7 hours to get to Langton pike ...we were exhausted tired and felt the least stressful option was to go for the double room and air bed ? Not great
- Francis (9/5): Friendly pub and a nice location - Friendly and great breakfast. None
- Prof. Nigel (9/5): - Very friendly and helpful host even though working under great personal pressure - and that was most kind.
- Allison (10/5): Absolutely perfect, we were made very welcome the rooms are clean and beautiful, the food was exquisite I would highly r - Beautiful old inn with traditional characteristics and a modern updated detailing Nothing

- Jill (9/5): Friendly, pleasant stay. - The landlord was extremely helpful, the food was good and the room comfortable. There was a good walk nearby behind the Inn and good views.
- Sara (10/5): Warm welcome,, comfortable, great breakfast. Everything we needed. - Perfect location for walking. Steve behind the bar was a great host making sure we had everything we needed.
Mark, the owner, couldn’t have done more for us. Very generous, and cooked us a great breakfast and then sent us off with sandwiches for our hike.
Rooms were clean and comfortable.
Five stars all round.
- Stephen (9/5): An excellent stay in a lovely Inn, very friendly staff and an ideal base from which to do some hikes - Our room was clean and tidy with an exceptional amount of sockets. We had a very nice meal on the Sunday night and the breakfast on the Monday and Tuesday morning was very good, freshly cooked with local ingredients - the bacon was particularly good. We hadn't realised that the Lantern Pike was closed on Monday but Mark recommended a local restaurant and even booked a table for us. Overall a very pleasant stay! There was nothing about the stay that we could have complained about.
- Antoinette (10/5): Wonderful, wonderful. - Absolutely recommendable. Nothing.
- Michelle (10/5): - The staff were friendly and the owner was lovely and very welcoming.
The food was brilliant and tasty
The room was comfortable and clean
- Becky (9/5): Lovely Inn, great food and wonderful owners - The owners were very friendly and helpful Getting to room and having no loo roll or WiFi password in room (both was fixed quickly and easily)
- Atkin (10/5): Fabulous - It was all excellent, Mark and Gary were very welcoming, couldn't do enough , both excellent cooks, the food was delicious, good portions very good prices and local produce, breakfast was amazing really set you up for the day. There is also a vegetarian breakfast. Mark was an excellent host always made sure he came and chatted. The room was clean and had everything needed. We looked out into the main road, not an issue for us as we live on a main road There was no noise from the pub once we were upstairs.
An enjoyable weekend. Thank you so much Mark and Gary we will be back.
- Gary (9/5): Great spot in the heart of the peaks - Awesome breakfast, lovely helpful staff, stunning location! Only stayed to crash one night but would have been happy with another night or two - no problem. Great base for walks - plenty you can do even without a car handy If I'm being extra picky - the mattress was a little tired, and the noise from the road in the morning (but not much the owners can do about that! But really it was great value for the price...
- Matthew (8/5): - Location is fantastic
Breakfast was very good
Staff were helpful and friendly
All this for a very affordable price Understandable but still disappointing when on a busy spring day that 3/4 of the menu was sold out.
- julie (9/5): -
- Joanne (10/5): Cosy comfortable and clean - Clean and comfortable
Excellent homemade food and friendly staff
Very good value
Thanks again Mark and Gary we will be back very soon Nothing
- Isabel (10/5): -
- Buckley (9/5): Lovely B&B in a great location - The host was so warm and welcoming, it's a b&b set in a traditional old peak district pub with lots of history and stories connected to it, the room was comfortable with great views, the breakfast was lovely and evening meals in the pub were rwally good. The pub itself is a short distance from the beautiful village of Hayfield and close to kinder scout for walking, the big attractions of the Peak District are only a shorts drive away.
- Wale (10/5): -
- Robert (10/5): Perfect in every way - Great location, great food, friendly owner, spotlessly clean Nothing. Would definitely return
- EMILY (10/5): Lovely stay - Good location and lovely staff! Food great too! Beds so comfy :) N/a
- Daniel (10/5): Great little find, only 15 mins from Hayfield. Clean room with great facilities. Friendly host and a great breakfast. - Clean, friendly and great breakfast
- Leanne (9/5): - We had a wonderful stay at this charming bed and breakfast during our hike from Stockport to Edale. The location was perfect, an ideal midpoint for our journey, offering a cozy and welcoming atmosphere after a long day of hiking.
The staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating. When we needed to leave early the next morning, they went above and beyond by preparing a delicious breakfast for us and even packing a second sandwich and snacks for our hike. It was a thoughtful touch that made our trip even more enjoyable.
We also had dinner at the B&B, and the food was delicious, just what we needed to recharge. The fireplace added to the warmth and comfort, making it a perfect place to relax after a day outdoors.
Overall, we highly recommend this bed and breakfast for anyone looking for a comfortable, welcoming, and well-located stop during their travels. The only minor downside was that our twin room and ensuite felt a little tired, but we were informed that it was the last room to be refurbished. Future guests will likely enjoy a freshly updated space!
- Andrew (10/5): Great from start to finish, Mark the owner made us laugh and nothing was to much bother - The breakfast was outstanding plenty of everything, the evening meal was cooked to perfection and large portions Nothing really everything was spot on.
- David (10/5): Absolutely marvellous - Really friendly staff
Comfy room
Fantastic views Nothing

- Jane (10/5): -
- Ruby (10/5): -
- Sue (10/5): Really enjoyed the experience of genuine hospitality. - Cosy and comfortable No long mirror in the bedroom
- Christopher (10/5): Wonderful stay. Far exceeded expectations - Excellent host breakfast anazing. Went in as visitors left as friends. Will definatly use the lantern pike as a stop off when and after travelling to manchester airport Still a work in progress but Mark is doing a fantastic job of renovating the place
- Beverley (8/5): -
- Scott (10/5): ‘Arrive as a guest, leave as a friend’ - Mark - Mark was an amazing host. The room was great, the location perfect and the food….brilliant! (Breakfast is next level). Nothing.
- julia (9/5): Fantastic, I have stayed here several times and the staff, food, and comfort are superb :) - Location, friendly staff, lovely pub atmosphere and fantastic breakfast I couldn't turn the heating off in the room - but that is due to the nature of the old building, at least I could open the window and get sufficient coolth during night :)
- Benjamin (10/5): Comfy, cosy, delicious food, splendid hosts. - Comfy and cosy pub, not too far from the centre. Staff absolutely lovely and really made the stay 5*. Dinner was great - recommend the Steak & Ale Pie. Breakfast even better - full English with plenty of beverages. Served by a happy and chatty team. Couldn’t wish for a better stay in the peaks. Na
- Gugnacka-Cook (10/5): -
- Heather (10/5): Ideal spot for visiting all the pretty peak villages. Bus stop right outside. - Mark and Gary were the perfect hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfasts were tasty and plentiful. Room was warm, bed very comfortable. Spacious bathroom with bath and a shower was a bonus. Everywhere was very clean and we were made to feel very welcome. NOTHING
- Andrew (9/5): Lovely welcoming weekend stay - Old world charming pub, great friendly staff, cracking breakfast The en-suite bathroom was old and felt in need of refurbishment.
- Daniel (10/5): -
- Anne (10/5): Wonderful stay with friendly Lantern Pike Inn, where everything exceeded expectations! - This was one of the best stays ever! Lantern Pike Inn exceeded all expectations relative to the hospitality, friendliness, location and much more! And the FOOD; just the food is worth a visit. Dinners were served in delicate way, made by Mark and Gary, local ingredients, beautifully presented and tasting wonderful! We got local tips and were really taken care of by the hosts Mark and Gary. We will be back!!
- Steve (10/5): Steve Rogerson - Absolutely every thing, management and staff made you feel as if you were home.
Nothing was to much trouble for them.
We were attending a funeral when Mark heard he offered to iron our clothing if required, where else would you get that.
The home prepared and cooked food was brilliant and again nothing was to much trouble fo them.
A lovely laid back happy atmosphere.
Thank you, will be back soon. Perfect
- Ian Shore (8/5): Unpretentious, welcoming pub! - Cracking little pub. Really nice atmosphere with the couple that run it setting the tone. They couldn't do enough for us during our stay. Great breakfast to set us up for a lovely Peaks walk.
- David (8/5): Friendly and homely with a 6 star breakfast. Helpful and considerate staff - Best breakfast on a long time !! Bathroom configuration
- David (8/5): Would definitely return - Cosy, good location friendly welcoming staff and good value Parking and bed/pillows could be more comfortable
- Alan (8/5): - Location was great, all the staff were very friendly and obliging.
- Lucy (10/5): -
- alan (10/5): A great stay in a really nice inn, with a great host, great food and drinks, and friendly locals - The pubs is warm and welcoming and the rooms were comfortable and clean.
The breakfast was delicious and plentiful, we didn’t have a lunch or evening meal there, but saw some of the food and it looked fantastic.
The host, Kevin, is really nice man with a great sense of humour and couldn’t do to make our stay as enjoyable as possible.
I can’t recommend this place highly enough for a short stay in the high peaks.
- Daniel (9/5): -
- Barnett (9/5): -
- Michaela (10/5): Great pub and great location - highly recommend - Traditional pub in an excellent location for walking and an easy off road 15 minute walk into hayfield. The pub itself is friendly and cosy, with log fires and the most amazing food. Best beef we’ve had in a long long time. Staff also really attentive and couldn’t do more for you. Our room was spacious and clean with stunning views. 10/10 for the breakfast. They asked exactly what we wanted and it was cooked to perfection, with options of extras if you wanted two of anything. We’ll most definitely be returning to explore more of the area.
- Roy (9/5): Lovely people -
- Anthony (10/5): Brilliant stay, brilliant people! - Mark was fantastic host & chef! Delicious food! Fantastic views!
- Cathryn (9/5): - Good atmosphere in the pub which is in a lovely position and great views. Mark was very friendly and welcoming. Really enjoyed our stay, great Sunday roast, and breakfast was excellent. Comfortable clean room.
- John (10/5): Exceptional. - I would just like to thank Mark & Gary and all the staff for such a warm and friendly welcome and making our stay exceptional.
We stayed in the superior double room with a stunning view over the garden and lantern pike in the background, there was ample tea and coffee making facilities, two comfortable chairs, the room had all you needed with added attention to detail. The bed was warm and comfortable with luxury cotton sheets. The en-suite bathroom had lots of space with a large bathtub and shower.
Our breakfast was superior with lots on offer and they were only too pleased to accommodate our dietary requirements. As with all the food served here, it is cooked and prepared with warmth and passion. The main menu had lots of fresh home cooked food on offer. I recommend the homemade cheese and onion pie and the feta salad and cod in beer batter was a delight. The pub itself presents a warm, cosy and friendly atmosphere, good ales and great bar staff and the open fire was a treat.
The location is perfect for exploring the peak district with all the main places in close proximity. If you are looking for
somewhere with a great Derbyshire warm friendly welcome with an amazing host and excellent staff and food, then this is the place for you.
We can't recommend it enough and can't wait to return later this year. The only downside was that my partner became unwell and we had to slightly cut short our visit but a huge thanks to Mark, Gary and all the staff for their genuine concern and attentiveness. You will be pleased to hear that she is recovering well!
- Katie (10/5): -
- Gerry (10/5): - Stunning views, fantastic room and excellent breakfast
- Deborah (10/5): Wonderful and chilled - Breakfast was exceptional, room was beautiful, would recommend to friends and family. N/A
- Amrit (10/5): - Warm & welcoming owners.
- Dieter (10/5): Perfect base for Kinder Scout. A warm welcome, great food, and exceptional value - We had a wonderful stay at the Lantern Pike Inn, which we chose for its ideal location near the start of the Kinder Scout route we were hiking the following day. It’s a lovely village pub with a great atmosphere and friendly locals. The dinner menu offered excellent choice and the food was outstanding.
We were upgraded to a larger room, which was warm, comfortable, and very welcoming. The owner Mike, couldn’t have been more hospitable and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was a freshly cooked full English using local ingredients, and as a thoughtful extra they even sent us off on our hike with fresh fruit and filled our coffee flask.
It was also incredible value for money for the two of us. If you’re hiking in the western Peak District, look no further than the Lantern Pike Inn, you won’t be disappointed.
- Melvin (8/5): Embracing British Heritage - The staff in lantern pike was very friendly and easy to talk to. They explained the history of the pub and location to us. I thought the room was adequately sized and comfortable. Everything was in working condition. The Wi-Fi signal wasn't the best in the location. Other than that everything was really good
- Richard (10/5): We had a great stay, could not wish for anything more. - We were after a B&B that was in close distance to a wedding that we were attending. The location was excellent. The owners of the establishment were excellent and made you feel very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. We did have a problem with the door lock, but this was quickly addressed by them. We wanted something to eat but they had finished serving meals, but they made us a fantastic BLT on Ciabatta with salad . The breakfast the next morning was excellent, all cooked fresh to order, no curled up or dry bacon which was great. Sadly we were only there for the one night but the friendliness of the 2 owners was outstanding and you were made to feel like a friend.
Any body visiting this B&B, it is not a 5 star hotel. It is an old country inn with bedrooms and loads of character. The cleanliness and food was better than some of the 4 and 5 star hotels we have stayed in . The welcome and service was 5star plus. There is some refurbishment going on but this did not affect our stay in any way. You got good value for your money. We will most defiantly being going back. If I had to give any negative then possibly the carparking is not the best as you are on a main road, but this would not stop me from visiting again. As long as you realise this is a very old building and does not have all the mod cons, then your stay will be enjoyable.
- Sue (8/5): Made to feel welcome and very accommodating. - The breakfast was delicious.
- George (10/5): - Very welcoming, cosy little place. The food amazing and nice cosy rooms.
Thank you to Mark and his partner for a fantastic stay. We will be back !!!! X I can't fault a thing !!!
- Ekaterina (10/5): Very cozy and clean stay! - Very warm clean room with comfortable beds and big heater which is important because we stayed there after a long hike in the snow. The location is good for main hikes as it’s 15-20 mins drive from start for Kinder Scout and Mam Tor, the breakfast was superb! Thank you! Nothing
- jithinraj00007 (4/5): -
- Dean (7/5): -
- Dean (8/5): - Lovely cosy pub.
Amazing walks everywhere.
Great breakfast.
Owner was warm and welcoming Not much, but if i was being picky the room and bathrooms were a bit tight for space. But it was clean and well presented and served there purpose.
- STEVE (9/5): Lantern pike, little hayfield - Owners and staff were very friendly and welcoming, my partner wasn't well on our trip and they went above and beyond to make sure that she was comfortable, even making a hot toddy and bringing it to the room.
cosy room, good food, breakfast was great, nice location and friendly atmosphere Booking.com says that you can check in from 13:00 but the owners have changed and despite them trying to get this updated, it hasn't. We turned up just after 1pm but couldn't check in, however the staff got our room ready as soon as they could.
- Gerard (10/5): - Very friendly staff, great location.
- Mark (10/5): - Very clean. Great food , great atmosphere and a great host. MARK.
- Sev (9/5): - Stunning views and friendly host.
- Adrian (6/5): Adequate. - Reception staff and porters. Freshly made coffee. Breakfast finishing dead on 9:59 with no warning. Coffee from the machine at breakfast was truly horrible. Many hotels have these machines. Usually the drinks from them are nearly tolerable, but not here. The dinner was fairly ordinary. The bar had no atmosphere at all but maybe this was down to very low occupancy in mid December.
- David (8/5): -
- Katy (10/5): A romantic couple stay - We really liked the the pub, overnight stay and location. The staff we're very helpful and friendly, (wonderful) and accommodating for our needs, as my partner is vegetarian. The views we're amazing, and we loved the coal fires. The history of the pub was interesting. Our room was lovely too, very comfortable and cozy. The only thing we would of liked to have seen is a more modern bathroom, but as the couple are improving it, it was clean and functional.
- Davina (9/5): A traditional pub in a beautiful location with super friendly staff and great food. - Exactly what you want and expect from an old country pub b&b. Staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating, including putting on breakfast for us even though we came down late! Nothing
- Mark (8/5): Great Country Inn with friendly staff and great food - excellent food for Breakfast with great service
- Susan (10/5): The authentic Peak District pub experience; warm and welcoming with great food and friendly hosts. - This was a classic old Peak District pub with accommodation and lots of character. The owners were really friendly and helpful and the breakfast was spot on. (The beer was pretty good too!)
- Sam (9/5): Lovely inn with very friendly staff, with great food. - Very friendly staff. Lovely evening meal and breakfast. More parking.
- alrica (10/5): - A great little pub with really lovely staff, a comfortable room and really good food There was nothing we didn't like
- Clarke (9/5): - Easy to find, plenty of parking, great staff, couldn't do enough for us , so accommodating, good fun & I loved the lemon & ginger tea you gave me so much I've filled a cupboard with boxes of the tea bags, are you on commission 😀 We both struggled with the shower & gave up thinking it was faulty. At breakfast (lovely full English) we mentioned it & learned it is a usual complaint as it is a tricky combination of switches & cords to pull & push in a particular combination, we felt an idiots guide, perhaps with pictures, would have been helpful. We were offered time to go back & shower, but we were keen to get back home.
I was misled by Booking .com as to the location & and its proximity to the venue of the gig we were going to. Booking.com gave the time distance as 25 to 35 minutes drive. It was an hour away with no stopping & cost me £100 in taxi fares!!! Not happy. 🤬
- Tim (10/5): A warm friendly welcome at a classic Peak District pub - Friendly welcoming staff, attention to meeting our needs, great beer and good food, good atmosphere in the Bar area, rooms nice and clean. It was all perfect
- Tim (10/5): -
- sarah (10/5): Mark the landlord and the local community were very friendly and welcoming. A very relaxing break. - Lovely warm and inviting pub with guest rooms. Very good food particularly the breakfast. Nothing
- Patricia (9/5): Cosy stopover near Kinderscout - *Easy to find.
* Parking available.
* breakfast included
* evening meals served (Home made pies!)
* The landlord, Mark, was welcoming, helpful and offered us the choice of an upgrade.
* Our room had a comfortable four poster bed and a bathroom with loads of surface space to put out our stuff. (How many hotel bathrooms, especially new, minimalist and opulent ones, give you just the top of the loo cistern, behind the taps or the floor for your toiletry/ cosmetic bag?) Nothing
- christopher (10/5): Really friendly and very accommodating. Great atmosphere and really good food at a decence price. -
- Anne (10/5): Great short stay in a welcoming pub with well appointed rooms. - Good location, clean and comfortable room, attentive and efficient staff. Great breakfasts and evening meals. Lovely hot water for a bath or shower. Owners very welcoming. Nothing springs to mind.
- Debra (8/5): - Friendly and welcoming, lovely food and drinks, good value for money in lovely surroundings The shower wasn't great but the bathroom is being done.
- David (8/5): Friendly pub with friendly locals and staff. - Great location. Friendly welcome. Good breakfast Nothing
- Whitehouse (10/5): Outstanding ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Mark is a gorgeous person oozing with personality. The staff were very friendly. Beautiful establishment with an open fire and great beers. The room was really nice, clean and comfortable. The breakfast was probably the best full English I've ever had. Local fresh produce cooked and presented perfectly. Highly recommend ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Nothing to dislike
- Samantha (9/5): Super cosy, well located, everyone was really friendly! - Super cosy, well located, staff were really friendly! The shower was a little temperamental
- Debbie (9/5): The whole stay was very good. I would definitely stay there again but would take my own pillow - The staff were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the food was excellent The only thing I would have liked to have been different was the pillows, they were very flat without any support
- O'Donnell (10/5): Excellent place to stay. - This is a lovely place to stay. It is very charming and relaxing and the staff, particularly Mark, were extremely welcoming. The meals are exceptionally good. I would happily stay again if I was in the area. There was nothing not to like - all was very good.
- Marie (8/5): Staff and owner very friendly and welcoming. - Breakfast well made and presented , looked fresh Parking not bad , but if full very tight
- Rachel (10/5): -
- Emma marsh (8/5): Lovely view, friendly staff - Staff were amazing, accommodating and nothing was too much. The bed was super comfy, the amenities were good, the location was just what we needed and the view was beautiful The toilet in the room was so close to the wall and shower door that there wasnt much room to manoeuvre. Also the noise was a little too much for my daughter as we had an early morning climb and the noise went on until late.! Although I was advised it was a one off reunion. Also was a Friday night so maybe thats just expected in an inn?
- Mary (10/5): Lovely pub, great hosts - Mike and Gary were brilliant hosts and the pub was cosy and welcoming ,obviously well loved by local people . Food portions were generous for both breakfast and dinner . We were at a wedding in the area so only ate there one night ,but would have been more than happy to eat there again. There was honestly nothing to dislike about our stay at the Lantern Pike Inn .
