Carol (10/5): Excellent hospitality and location for Observatory in Hailsham. - Breakfast was excellent. A selection of cereals, juice, fresh fruits including grapefruit was available. Freshly cooked to order Full English or haddock with poached or scrambled eggs to accompany. Delicious. The owners were very hospitable, nothing was too much trouble. Thank you. All was superb.

Brian (9/5): - We had an evening meal arranged at very short notice which was excellent. You do need to book meals ahead as the chef/owner uses only fresh ingredients and it shows. Definitely well above standard hotel catering. Very professional husband and wife team running this small hotel. Could not fault the experience.

Owned by a lovely couple who were so friendly and I had one of the tastiest Full English breakfasts ever ! The eggs were perfect and the tomato’s & the sausage were the tastiest 🥰

M Pauline (8/5): Great for a short stay when exploring the area. - This was a lovely little hotel. Welcoming host, nice room if a little small. Breakfast good. Free parking. Although hotel is on a busy road, it wasn't noisy. I wish we had known that there were rooms with a bath, which I prefer. Will remember to request next time I book anywhere. Showers are not for me, especially in the colder months! A couple of miles outside Hailsham, easy journey into centre. A frequent gripe with many hotels these days is there aren't enough chairs in the room. Although there would not have been enough room for a second chair in this room.
David (9/5): Thank you Philip and Nicky for being such attentive hosts and for a very comfortable stay. - Although small it was an extremely well appointed bedroom, with facilities that one would only expect in a much higher rated hotel. Breakfasts were fantastic and were served with minimal delay. Nothing, as fully satisfied with our stay.

Michiel (5/5): - De eigenaar is een hele goeie kok maar misschien ook niet zo heel moeilijk als je dag van te voren moet doorgeven wat je zal eten en er maar 3 tafels, in totaal 5 man, moeten eten. Eten heel lekker en de vrouw is ook heel vriendelijk maar de “kostschoolstijl” van de kok/eigenaar met z’n belletje dat je steeds moet gebruiken voor je ergens binnenstapt en z’n waarschuwingen niet in de keuken te komen anders kom je z’n honden tegen zijn niet echt gastvriendelijk…. De op de minuut te volgen timing van het avondeten was ook wel speciaal…. Als je er de “charme” van het gebouw bijneemt en je ni zie vorige .
Jill (10/5): - This property is unique, it is a very old property with all mod cons and some contemporary styling. Loved the facilities and I am a lover of lots of milk in my strong tea, I always have to ask for extra milk … not here, extras for all your tea and coffee making was on the landing. The room itself and the beds were comfortable, we travelled as a family of three with me and my husband in a double and our little one on a put me up. We had a tv and lots of storage space for clothes etc. A little balcony off of our room to make the most of the light evening, The place is situated on a main busy road and the balcony did over look this but after 10pm the traffic died down considerably. The owners/hosts were very lovely and attentive, Breakfast was a 10/10 and some. The hosts specifically catered for a 5 year old on top of the extensive breakfast options they offered. We had no issues during our stay apart from the room got very warm (even with the blind down durning the day as suggested) and a fan provided in the room. Would stay here again.

Barbara (10/5): Es war eine großartige Anlaufstelle für unsere Radtour. - Wir sind mit dem Fahrrad von Dieppe - Newhaven - Hailsham gefahren und deshalb erst abends angekommen. Wir konnten das Abendessen von unterwegs bestellen und wurden deshalb mit einem großartigen Menue empfangen. Der Abend in einem Raum mit so viel Atmosphäre hat uns sehr gefallen. Am nächsten Morgen erwartete uns ein fantastischen Frühstück. Alles top!!! Es hätte alles nicht besser sein können.

Luc321 (9/5): Aangenaam verblijf - Vriendelijk onthaald. Ontbijt was top met ruime selectie van vers fruit. Het was warm op de kamers maar het was ook wel een heel warme dag geweest. Ventilator in de kamer stond reeds aan bij aankomst om toch voor enige koelte te zorgen.

We were given train/bus schedules when needed with advice on what to see on our travels. The food here was excellent. We enjoyed both the breakfast and an evening meal. Superb. Philip and Nicky go out of their way to ensure you enjoy your stay. They showed genuine interest in our travel plans and offered advice to make our travels easier - very much appreciated. Not much - the location is a bit out of the way but the bus is right out the door and the hosts ensure you know how to use the bus to get where you are going.

The room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was excellent with an amazing choice of fresh fruit and freshly cooked full English breakfast. Friendly host too. Karin L (8/5): - Das Frühstück (Müsli, frische Beeren, Toast, warme Speisen, etc.) und das Abendessen (wir hatten Tiger Prawns Pfanne und Boeff Stroganoff) waren super lecker und mit viel Liebe zubereitet. Die Gastgeber sind sehr nett und zuvorkommend. Das Abendessen muss man zwar 2 Tage vorher bestellen, aber es lohnt sich auf jeden Fall. Das Restaurant ist auch sehr gemütlicher Raum. Die nahegelegene Straße war etwas laut.

Amanda (9/5): Friendly, welcoming accommodation with good food. - The Olde Forge proved a godsend during a tricky time for me when visiting a relative in the area who was unwell. I stayed there twice and was made to feel completely at home and well looked after. You really appreciate that especially as a solo traveller. I loved my room, the bed was very comfy and there was a kettle and plenty of options for drinks/snacks and sweets. Phil and Nicky were particularly helpful when I had a flat tire and made sure everything was sorted quickly and efficiently so my return trip was not delayed. I really appreciated their advice. The breakfasts are lovely, lots of choice even down to gluten-free options and the same with the dinners. It has a really friendly atmosphere and I would definitely recommend it.

Marion (10/5): Loved it here - Really welcoming friendly hosts. Food was beautifully cooked, lots of choice for breakfast and lots of it. We were lucky enough to be able to have dinner there on our first night. The food was absolutely delicious - just wow! This is nothing that anyone can do anything about, It is just awareness that this is an historical property which was part of my reason for booking here. Great kerb appeal. Be prepared for the different floor levels though they are all suitably marked.
