• Jacki Gerber (10/5): - This was a great room on the Turnagain Arm and very close to Girdwood/Alyeska. The owner was great. The bar fabulous. The room very cozy. Slept like a small child. Sunset was gorgeous. I liked everything. But if you are a light sleeper, you will hear patrons at the bar below you. I couldn't understand what they were saying but knew they were having a good time. I was too tired to join in.

• Kathryn (10/5): Comfortable cabin between Anchorage and Seward - Cute, clean, comfortable log cabin between Seward and Anchorage.
• Marianne (10/5): Cozy "Old Alaska" inn with great food and lots of character. - This is an adorable "Old Alaska," mom & pop hotel over a delightful (but not noisy) neighborhood bar. The hostess/proprietress/barmaid/cook was welcoming and friendly, and my cheeseburger dinner was the best of my entire trip. The room was modern and spotless, with plenty of hot water and heat, and the view of Turnagain Arm was amazing. The prices for the room and the meal were reasonable given everything in Alaska is expensive. You have to carry your suitcases up a short flight of steps and checkout time was very early (10AM).

• Przemek Pustelnik (9/5): Very nice cozy place - We stayed in the cabin which was very comfortable and cozy. Cabin is spacious, clean and very well equiped. Very good value option comparing to other options in the area. Convenient location to drive to Alyeska or Portage Lake and Glacier. Not that you need it very much in such a beautiful surroundings but be aware that WiFi is not working in the cabins.

• Steven (8/5): Good value for the money, I will try staying here again as I hope to repeat this trip again in 2026. - I stayed in a motel unit (above the bar and grill, 1 night) on my way down to Homer, and at one of the stand-alone cabins a week later on my way back. The motel room was very basic, small, but comfortable. The value for the price was superb. The cabin was my default on the way back as the motel rooms were sold out by the time I booked. It was also comfortable, but not the value that the motel room was. It did have a full kitchen, which was helpful although the fridge/freezer was a bit run down. I didnt have time to take advantage, but the cheeseburgers at the bar/grill smelled and looked great, they are discounted on Wednesdays or Thursdays. See above comments, you're basically staying in a small basic room above a bar and grill. Very conveneient for starting or ending the drive to or from Anchorage to Homer. The only way to the motel rooms is a fairly steep staircase, if you have mobility issues it may not be a good option.

Great room and facilities 👌 Can be a bit loud because of the road. The rooms are on the second floor and it's important if you have heavy stuff. The wifi is so bad!!

• Kelly (10/5): - The rental itself is kind of like staying at a friend’s- the bed was comfortable and neat, there were some little quirks to the space, but felt completely safe and love off-the-beaten-path places like this. The owner and the bartender were AMAZING and so friendly downstairs, the hamburger tasted fresh off a backyard grill delicious, and oh my gosh you are RIGHT on Seward Highway.

• Sharon (5/5): Strange and too expensive. - We liked the location, the bed and the food. We stayed in one of the log cabins which was cool, BUT the refrigerator and the range hood was dirty. The front door as well as the front door of the saloon was black with dirt. There is something called a magic eraser that would easily keep the doors clean. The thermostat was hidden on the wall behind the curtain and the room was cold when we arrived so it took awhile for the cabin to warm up (it was a very cold and windy day). We had to ask for an extra blanket as only a thin comforter was provided with a sheet (no blanket). We were not provided a key for the cabin and was told, "If you really want one I can see if I can find it." Since we weren't planning on leaving the room, I let it go but this was unprofessional. The dog in the bar was nice but the dog's bed was literally in the middle of the floor making it difficult to get to the counter to check in. It seemed like the bar was filled with locals who hang out there all the time rather than with tourists. I felt like I was in the twilight zone taken back to the 1960's or to the gold rush. It was a very strange experience and when I told my Alaskan friends about it they laughed and said that the reviews are probably all from the people who hang out at the bar. It's kind of unbelievable that this place got an excellent rating because I would give it a 5 and we normally stay in funky places not resorts. The price was way too high for the condition as well. I lived in a log house in Anchorage for 4 years in the 80's when the Bird House was there so it's not like I don't know anything about Alaska.

The Brown Bear Saloon is on-site and has some good food choices - especially liked the sweet potato fries. There are some breakfast options nearby as well. Beds were comfy and it was very quiet and clean. We really enjoyed our stay!

And I really appreciated the mini fridge and microwave oven. They also provided a coffee maker. I would definitely stay there again, most of all considering the high prices in Anchorage and good location of this accommodation.

• Stacy (8/5): - We stayed here on our first night in Alaska so that we could get a little ways out of Anchorage and prepare our stuff for the remaining trip. Unfortunately the rooms are above the saloon which was exactly what is advertised but I did not realize how inconvenient that would be. I was uncomfortable walking up and down the staircase with the gear. If we had stayed later in the trip my experience would have been different. The burgers and beer were wonderful and worth the visit. The room is small but clean and had a good hot shower. The location is perfect and very convenient for a stay just outside of Anchorage.

• Kim (10/5): Interesting Place to stay - The staff was wonderful. The bed in cabin slept really well. Loved the saloon. The bed in motel was not very good.
• Angela (10/5): - Not much to look at and the room was small but, it was clean and the bed was comfortable. The room was on the second floor above the bar, surprisingly it was not noisy at all. The bar is a unique place with a lot of bar charm. We ate chicken wings and they were good. The one staff person we saw took care of everything. She was the registration desk, barmaid and waitress. She was friendly and provided excellent service. There was a nice walking path nearby. Definitely no frills but for a one night stay it was fine.

• Cynthia (2/5): - When your picture is of a cabin and you show up to check in to find out it is not a cabin but your booking states you stay or forfeit your money you stay in the tiny room above the Biker Bar with the unsafe railings, rickety stairs, uneven floor and wires from the non existent smoke alarm dangling from the ceiling. Don’t remember what amenities were listed, but no tv, no wifi, seemingly nothing included. Would have driven the half hour to Girdwood had there been any inkling what was being provided was not what was pictured. While I may have spent as much as nine hours there, virtually no sleep was gotten.

It says there's internet, but not really. I could never get connected. We just stayed one night so IDK about the surrounding area. It would be a good port in a storm, but otherwise I would pass on this in the future
• Brittany (10/5): What a wonderful experience! - I had an absolutely wonderful stay here and the employees were some of the most welcoming and friendly people I have ever met! The room was nice and clean with a beautiful view. The saloon downstairs had some great food and was a great time meeting some local residents. I cannot emphasize how great Sara, Denise, and Bae were. They went above and beyond to help me when I ran into some issues at the end of my trip. They were so great, that by the end of my first night there, I extended my stay another few days!
• Enrico (10/5): - What’s not to like? If you love, rustic, and you love the outdoors, or a fabulous view then you’re gonna love this place! The staff is absolutely wonderful, and even with a bar downstairs it really wasn’t that loud. A nice little bike trail, get you across the road with ease so that you can stand on the edge of the ocean and breathe in the mountain view. Absolutely love this place definitely going back.

• Holly (10/5): - I came in for a doctors appointment in Anchorage and stayed here with my husband and two dogs. It was nice to be out of the city and I have the gorgeous views everywhere. I was able to get the rest and relaxation needed after the appointment. The rooms are spotless, comfortable, Spacious and beautiful views out the window. This is our go to spot whenever we come to Anchorage because it’s out of the city, quiet and everything we need is right there. Cannot say enough about this place.
• Monica (10/5): - The Brown Bear Saloon and Hotel was clean, comfortable, and cute. The staff were super friendly and we enjoyed chatting with other guests as we ate in the bar downstairs. Nice little park across the road from the hotel. This place is not fancy or luxurious, but it has everything you need for a safe and comfortable overnight stay.
• Patrick (8/5): - Our booking through Expedia did not work so we arrived without a reservation but luckily they had a vacancy. Overall, everything you’d expect from a roadside motel/bar. If you’re passing by, I’d recommend you stop in for a drink at the very least.

The stairs to the rooms are ready for replacement — I would not want to climb those stairs in the rain or ice!! The location on Seward highway is beautiful — close to some great hiking areas, birding, the boretide, beluga sightings.
