Guest Reviews
- Michael (10/5): Cellar - Absolutely stunning property,doesn’t get quirky as this,amazing
- Susan (10/5): - Awesome hosts and great accommodations!
- Jessica (10/5): - We had a short visit but everything was lovely. Nick was very welcoming. It was a great stay.
- jeffrey (8/5): - An unique experience staying in the cellars for only one night. It was very dark and very quiet. We were attending a gig in the Bristol Beacon, we drove in and back, it was an easy drive in and out of Bristol which took about 10-15 mins each way, although the host advised us that previous visitors caught a bus in and used an uber to get back. Because of the steps down to the cellars I would not advise anyone with mobility issues to stay here
- Ray (10/5): - Excellent place to stay,I would highly recommend!
- Stuart (10/5): Amazing place to stay - Amazing place to stay
- Peter (10/5): - The perfect place to stay when it is 30 degrees outside - Nice and cool - unique, easy to find - friendly hosts
- Verified traveler (8/5): Cosy and charming - Pros:
the owner is very accommodating, we arrived pretty late yet he is still happily wait for us and show us around the property. The property itself is very charming with old exposed brick and country furniture but with a twist of modern appliances making my stay as comfortable and homey. The kitchen is complete with everything I need for cooking especially love the tiny compact dishwasher. We wander around the backyard/garden and enjoy morning coffee on the tree house.
Cons:
The bed is a bit uncomfortable to sleep on; bit springy and wobbly. The property is not thoroughly clean, we found hairs on the cabinet surface in the toilet and coffee grinds on kitchen counter. The slippers given has worn off (the floor is very cold!)
- Verified traveler (2/5): Very bad experience - The room and cellar was very damp and musty. Bathroom filthy. Spiders everywhere.
Not good.
- John (10/5): Historic and peaceful. - Wonderful historic property. We had a great few days here. Well equipped with everything you need. Lovely walks from the front door and very peaceful. Parking a plus and Nick is a very good host.
- Glenn (10/5): Fantastic - Very quirky yet totally practical. I had the cellar apartment which had everything required including superfast wifi. Definitely would stay again.
- Mark (10/5): A rare find - The cellar may not be for everyone but I loved it. Spacious, quiet, well equipped with additional kitchen extras, comfortable, good wifi, own parking space and a friendly and knowledgeable host Nick. It was cool when I arrived but soon warmed up. The area is good for hiking and the Clifton Suspension Bridge is just a 30 mins walk. Also has a good pub nearby along with a bus stop to get into Bristol.
- Gareth (4/5): - Sadly following a great check in from the host I found that the room smelt musty and damp. I couldn’t get warm despite three heaters on. In the morning my fresh clothes smelt musky and I’ve had to wash everything on my return home. Not ideal for a winter stay, maybe it’s ok in the summer.
- Jarred (10/5): - Quiet,, unique and had it's own parking space. Need I want more
- Claire (10/5): - Great little hideaway. Somewhere very quirky to stay. Even though a cellar it was warm and cosy. Nick was very helpful and accommodating.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful - Lovely hosts and a wonderful place to stay. I have already recommended to friends and will continue to do so.
- Gaynor (10/5): - We loved the quirky nature of the building, very unique. Everything we needed for our stay.
- Simon (10/5): - Whole stay was simply wonderful. Thankyou.
- Jayne (8/5): - Lovely place, if your looking for something different then a stay here is just for you.
Everything there what you wanted, except for a baking tray. Might not seem a problem, but when you cook because ,because of been gluten intolerance its a need.
But thats all, a lovely night stay.
Thank you Nick.
- Cleon (10/5): - It’s not often you get to stay in a building which dates to 1400. Lovely bolt hole for a weekend. Walkable to Clifton downs. Lovely host. Recommend.
- Ingid (10/5): - I stayed here multiple times and each time has been fantastic. The cellar apartment has everything you need for a comfortable and cosy stay including cooking and washing facilities. Nick, the host, was fantastic and very welcoming. It's a beautiful location and I'd recommend it to anyone staying in the area!
- Max (6/5): Quirky, wonderful host and a good location - Really liked the host he's a great chap. Location was good for what I wanted but needed some improvements for me to mark it higher. Orangery was stellar and great for reading/typing up notes.
- Lindsay (10/5): A delightful step back in time - What a unique experience!
A converted cellar that's about 650 years old is bound to be different, and the gracious hosts have worked wonders. Our stay was short but we had a grand time.
Just a small caveat, the steep stone steps may be tricky for older guests with heavy bags. Fortunately, the Host is very helpful.
- Ann (10/5): - Lovely place to stay, quiet and easy to find. They were very friendly. Love the history of the place
- Simon (10/5): Excellent accommodation in an interesting place! - Really interesting place! The converted cellar of a Victorian priory. Everything necessary for a comfortable stay was provided. There was even dress coffee & milk! Thanks Nick
- Laura (10/5): Perfect place for stop over - Quirky stay. Lovely host. Beautiful building
- brendan (10/5): - Amazing stay
A really quirky place with everything we needed
- Rosa (10/5): Wished I could have stayed longer - Really unique and wonderful place to stay. I was sad to only be staying one night. The cellar was naturally very cool - perfect for hot summer days. There was additional heating available if needed. The hosts were great and provided lots of information.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I think it would be helpful to have rugs down in both the bedroom & hallway to bathroom as there are rough uneven stone flags which are uncomfortable on bare feet. There is obviously a problem with humidity in the property which they are trying to tackle but it left the bedding feeling damp.
- Judith (10/5): - What a wonderful quirky abode and situated amongst a wonderful property!
Lovely garden to enjoy our gin too!
Well stocked kitchen but if you didn’t wish to cook a great pub is 50yds away!
Had a lovely welcome from the hosts and nothing was too much trouble.
Bonus…property is just outside the congestion charge so used our bikes for getting around..easy!
Will be a definite go to if we are up this way again 😊
- Chris (10/5): - Lovely apartment- everything I needed was provided. Host very friendly.
- Joanne (10/5): Fantastic property - This is a fantastic property. Nick is a superb host, he kindly arranged to meet me on arrival, directing me to the property and providing me with helpful information. The property was nice and warm, had everything you could need and in a great location. I will definitely be returning.
- terry (10/5): Abbots Leigh. Cellars - If you like history, somewhere a little different with great character, a personal welcome by the owner? This place is great.
- Caroline (10/5): - A fantastic find close to the beautiful area of Clifton. All essential amenities provided plus a bonus starter pack, excellent information booklet and spotlessly clean. Great communication and personal meet and greet from owner Nick. Will definitely stay again!
- Lee (10/5): Historic and stunning. - A quirky, visually stunning and historic apartment. I can’t recommend this location more highly.
- Luis (10/5): - Beautiful property in a lovely area
- Deb (4/5): - Do not stay here in the winter
I booked two nights but could only stay one
Very uncomfortable night the damp was unbearable and i now have a chest infection
Nice host -nice area but to damp for winter !
- Sean (10/5): - The Priory Cellars was a quirky, historic pleasant stay. Lovely host , nice and easy access from motorway and surrounding areas. Ideal for the wedding we attended at Leigh Court.
- Brian (10/5): - Nice friendly hosts, high standards. BG
- Elizabeth (10/5): - Lovely and unique property with so much character! The host was very kind, accommodating and knowledgeable, and provided wonderful information about the history of the property itself and the local area. The unit is very well set up and has everything you need, including laundry and a great little kitchen. Very clean, tastefully decorated and well presented. I would recommend this unit to anyone looking for something a little different, and you really can’t beat the peace and quiet of a restful sleep in a stone cellar!
- Sam (10/5): would recommend, excellent stay - Absolutely fantastic, a beautiful property, I arrived on a very hot day so the cool cellar was a delight.
The facility's were amazing, spotlessly clean, the host was very welcoming and the kitchen was well stocked with all the handy things you don't want to have to buy or bring (like salt, butter, milk in the fridge.
- Carl (10/5): Lovely location, friendly host and well equipped! - Apartment is a cellar but this is clear and no issues for me, although some may not like the fact is was a little dark and slight cellar smell. I thought the location and presentation of the apartment was excellent. Everything you would need and very comfortable. easy to find and in a wonderful Village with pub and great cafe. Close to countryside and wonderful bike routes. 15mins drive to the City so a car is useful and free parking. The Orangery is wonderful!
- Mark (10/5): - Great place to stay and walkable to centre of Bristol via Clifton Suspension Bridge.
- Jack (4/5): - We booked this property for 2 nights mainly for the location and opportunity to do laundry during our vacation. Once we arrived we discovered the small apartment is a converted old cellar that was very damp, dark, cold and musty, with a lack of any fresh air. You have to go down a very steep set of stairs to get into the cellar. It was necessary to run a small portable heater that was provided constantly during our stay in June, which did a poor job of providing heat. We didn't see mold but could smell it! We normally don't do negative reviews but travelers beware.
- Peter (6/5): - This is a very quirky apartment in a quiet area with easy links to the middle of Bristol. Host is very nice. However, we found it a bit cold and it would have been reassuring to be able to lock the access door leading to the owners accomodation. Floors are all stone slabs and cold underfoot, so take your slippers !
- Suzanne (10/5): - Fabulous stay
Highly recommend
Lovely host
Cosy and unique
Plenty of space
Convenient local pub too
- Ulrike (8/5): quiet - different, a spacious cave with modern comforts, bring some slippers, the kitchen is equipped with everything you need
- Gabrielle (8/5): - Lovely stay thanks
- David (10/5): Magical cozy subterranean apartment - Clean, dry, warm, quiet place to stay with a rather pleasant and very helpful host
- NICOLA (10/5): Nic and Kev from Surrey and West Wales - Absolutely fabulous stay at the Priory Cellars. Nick the owner met us and chatted about the history of the house, surrounding area and places of interest. The George, a family friendly pub a few metres away served great food with excellent service. Bristol city is walking distance if you enjoy a half hour walk. Thoroughly recommend, you won't be disappointed.
- David (10/5): Everything you could ask for - 15th century cellar, converted into a wonderful little property. Had everything we needed for a self-catering break. Great nearby pub. Friendly hosts. Could not ask for more.
- Rhiannon (10/5): - A very unique and quirky accommodation, with beautiful scenery surrounding the property.
We had a fabulous stay this weekend, the property included everything needed (and more) for a few days getaway.
Nick met us at the property when we arrived and gave us a little tour and told us some history about the building and information on the surrounding areas. Nick and his wife were very friendly and helpful. We didn’t want to leave, already looking to stay again in the near future.
Thank you very much for having us!!
- Alison (10/5): fantastic - everything was perfect and we loved the uniqueness of the cellar
- Sarah (10/5): Unique and worthwhile - The owner was very friendly and helpful. We were running late and he was very understanding. He also gave us valuable local information.
The apartment was unique- a 14c cellar!- and had all the amenities you could want including a washer dryer, oven and hob, and dishwasher.
- Richard (10/5): A lovely unique apartment - Nick the host gave us a very warm welcome, gave us a tour of the apartment, essential safety information and talked about the best way to travel to Bristol and ideas of what to see whilst we were here. He is a very nice and friendly guy
After that, he left us to our own devices, we had his number so if there were any questions/ concerns etc we could contact him but we didn't need to.
Easy commute to Bristol, we decided to drive ( we found a car park that was just £2 for 24 hours near the train station after 5pm booking) but busses seemed easy too.
It's a lovely apartment with everything you need and more. I couldn't recommend it more.
Not mentioned on the page is that they had a Netflix account on the TV which you can use for when you're chilling (The TV is slightly smaller than I'd like but it was ok)
Thanks so much for a great stay, it's a lovely and unique place and when we come back to Bristol will certainly be back staying here
- Laura (10/5): - Perfect if you want to stay in an ancient apartment in the outskirts of Bristol. Lovely hosts. Only downside was lack of public transportation.
- Marie (10/5): - It was lovely and quiet. It had all you need and was spacious.
- Miss N (10/5): Enjoyable stay 😃 - Lovely stay, quirky clean .. everything we needed.. local to the places we needed to visit.. would be staying again 😃
