Guest Reviews
- Lynne (6/5): Good enough for the one night we needed - The location suited us and the dining room was nicely appointed with good service and pub food The bar was very disappointing, no real ales (or crisps!) and pool cues without tips!
One of the bedrooms was internal with people passing along the corridor able to see into the room. This meant the curtains had to be closed for privacy and there was no natural light.
Shower was tricky to use

- Campbell (8/5): Old maybe but a grand inn - A lovely old inn with delightful staff. The restaurant looked after our party of 12 with good humour despite latecomers. Food was excellent and the room was spacious comfortable and very clean. Lack of Staff issues meant no breakfast service but that's Brexit and the London governments hostile immigration policy. No worries for us as there are plenty local cafés available.

- Moira (9/5): This was a very successful family weekend trip for a family get together nearby. - We ate in the restaurant at the Old Cross Inn, the food was lovely and the service very good. Unfortunately it is a very popular local restaurant and a Saturday night, so it was busy and we could not book for friends to eat with us. Another time we will know to book in advance. At this time of year there is no breakfast served , but as we were close to town that too was no real problem. It is something to check if you have to rush off the next day and have not time to eat elsewhere. For our trip this time the Old Cross In was near perfect We were a little disappointed that we could not eat with friends, but as it was an unplanned opportunity we were not surprised that a Saturday night proved difficult to accommodate at short notice. The staff could not have tried harder to make it work for us, but numbers were too difficult. Not doing breakfasts during the out of season is something to bear in mind, but did not bother us at all this trip.

- Duncan (9/5): Bed and Board in Hawes - Comfortable bed and pillows and nice room. Town centre location and it goes quiet in the evening. Good breakfast next door included.
- Ana (1/5): Irresponsables - Nada No pude conocerlo. Las indicaciones para llegar no eran claras. Después de conducir 1500 km es Escocia me dicen "que soy incapaz de seguir simples instrucciones. Malísimo el cuidado al cliente. Eviten este hotel. Hay otros mejores en la zona
- William (9/5): - The staff were amazing very helpful food was amazing friendly atmosphere

- Kirsty (1/5): Would not recommend very disappointed - The staff were very friendly When we first arrived the staff didn’t know we were booked in for a stay. No check in. Shown to our room which was absolutely freezing. Lightning very poor. Shower not go for purpose. Requested a room with double bed, got two singles pushed together. The duvet was very thin. Sent email to property requesting breakfast, no email returned. Got up in the morning to nobody about, unable to check out and unable to get breakfast. Left key in room door and left. Won’t return, wouldn’t recommend
- Lisa (8/5): Very comfortable stay - Friendly , very comfy beds Check in was a little odd , room booked didn’t seem to be the one ready but was soon changed from a twin to a double while we were out .
- John (4/5): -
- Gail (10/5): Cosy overnight stay - Nice cosy feel The big hill
- Kristīne (8/5): Happy - Good, king bed very comfy , last minute booking Bit too chilly, hard to warm room up , we were after skiing all day.

- Catriona (8/5): Delighted to have stumbled over this wee gem, comfy, lovely staff and superior food. - The staff were welcoming, friendly, helpful, top rate; shows a good culture being fostered in the hotel. The room was spotless, warm, with a comfy bed. The food was unexpectedly good, standard fare cooked exceptionally well and presented beautifully. For supper I had a gluten-free double burger with cheese and salad and an asian-style slaw (which was delightful!) with a mixed salad in place of chips and the whole thing was delicious. Breakfast was similarly lovely, eggs Benedict with a bit of a twist, beautifully cooked, beautifully presented. The room could do with a few adjustments, not expensive or difficult, but would make a difference. A hook, perhaps, on the back of the door, to hang a jacket/coat; one of those fold up webbing stools, for your case or bag, while you sort things out - I dislike putting dirty cases or bags on my bed and the alternative was the floor, a bit of a fuffle. Maybe a shelf in the bathroom and the tea trolley wobbled, which wasn't ideal

- Jos (1/5): Forgettable would not recommend or stay again! - Nothing, no staff at property when we arrived, even in the restaurant or bar ! Had to go away and return later, no information saying what to do when there were no staff there! keys were in a box on a fence outside!
The staff were friendly! The rooms were so cold, no one explained how the heating worked!
Based on the cost of the room, breakfast should be included in the cost of the room! One of our party locked their key in the room by accident, we were attending a wedding and had to leave him behind, while staff had to Google how to break in to the room! The door was opened but the lock had to be replaced !
Why not have spare keys on site!
- Leonard (7/5): This was a good stay and I can recommend it - We had a good evening meal in the Innl on the Sunday but due to staffing issues (which we knew about in advance) the Inn couldn't offer us breakfast on Monday morning so we went to Wetherspoons for a good breakfast. . We were pleased with the accommodation. Good sized bedroom with comfy beds and a good bathroom . shower very good. Parking presented us with no problems.. There was nothing which disappointed. It would have been nice to have had breakfast in situ but not a big issue as we were close to town centre which had a Wetherspoons.
- Alfred (8/5): -
- Michael (6/5): -
- Tracey (8/5): - It was value for money paid It was beside a busy road and windows are only single pane glass so felt like trucks were coming into your room
- Adrienne (5/5): -
- William (10/5): - Staff were fantastic food was terrific we stayed an extra night five star
- PAWEL (8/5): -
- Isabel (10/5): -
- Kees (6/5): A lot to improve - Room was OK, heating being perfect and a good bathroom. Atmosphere in the restaurant was non existing. Hard walls and floor were reflecting the noise of only 6 people having dinner so we could hardly talk. The girl who served out the dinner never heard of a bitter beer and the taps were not working. The music in the bar had a very distinctive and hard bass. Sorry for an old pub with so much potential.
- Lynn (9/5): - Comfortable cozy feel with excellent friendly staff.
- Penzo (10/5): - The owners & staff were all friendly and helpful.
- Phil (9/5): Lovely stay - Comfy bed, spotlessly clean, friendly staff. Especially Zander and Eli.
- Carol (8/5): - The food was generous and well prepared! The bed was comfortble. The bath was new and sparkley clean.
- Volker (8/5): -
- Julie (8/5): - The atmosphere and helpfulness of the staff. Stairs but as old building these were part of it
- Les (7/5): -
- Anita (9/5): Hyfsat boende.
- Matteo (8/5): Very good stay for an "inn", good restaurant and pub just downstairs. - I liked the main bedroom, looked very cozy and welcoming. Lots of space, good decor. Nice complimentary tea/coffee in the bedroom. Bed was comfortable. Good to have a restaurant and pub just downstairs! In the restaurant, the "special" dessert oreo chocolate cake was absolutely divine and huge! The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The bathroom was ok, but could see it was renovated cheaply. Electric shower has low water pressure as usual, no door on the shower. Little space for toiletry. Also no table in the bedroom, despite lots of space available. The bed lined was a bit worn and had some marks. In the restaurant, the "chicken" main was tasty but the portion a bit small.
- robin (8/5): Welcoming, good hearty dinner - Very friendly service
- Alexander (5/5): Below average! - Room was ok but with very poor lighting
Bed was comfortable and shower ok Both restaurant and bar closed on Monday and Tuesday! Hotel unable and unwilling to provide a receipt! For that alone I could not recommend this property and would not wish to return!
- Roseann (10/5): - The staff were friendly and helpful. Everything was great
- txon (7/5): - Bar y restaurante cerrados lunes y martes.
Calentador de ducha peligroso, de repente el agua hierve.
- Isabel (9/5): Had a lovely stay and we ate in the restaurant at night. Food was lovely and again attentive staff. Would definately sta - We were just booked for one night and found it so welcoming. Manager and staff were very helpful.
- Terry (8/5): - Excellent breakfast, large room but needs some updating. Parking and near to the town and bonus. Evening food was fab as well Overpowering air freshener in the bathroom
- Carole (10/5): Great place to stay. Lovely staff and fab food! - Breakfast was fab. Only thing was no one explained to us that we could have had toast, marmalade, cereal etc. only realised this when we heard another customer ask for it. However what we chose from breakfast menu was lovely Would have been handy to have a couple of wee hooks on bathroom door. Apart from that everything was good!
- ANGELA (9/5): Great overnight stay. - Nice comfy beds. Small fridge in the room was handy. Staff nice and helpful. Nice big modern walk in shower. Lovely big walk in shower but no bar to hold onto or shower mat to stand on. Slippy.
- eric (8/5): -
- Darren (10/5): - We decided to stop over here before heading to Edinburgh Airport thereby breaking our traveling time up...
Lovely family owned Inn , great staff and nice to be able to eat there as well...I highly recommend the steak pie 🥧!
Bed ultra comfy, everything you need...tea making facilities and even biscuits! Shampoo, conditioner and bath gel supplied which is always much appreciated.
Nice to find an ensuite room designed properly, not just for show! Very large mirror, with socket beside it , plus kettle plugged in and ready to go!😊
Very nice picturesque drive to the airport...
Cheers for the chat Aaron, you're a huge asset to the place!👍
- Elma (7/5): Mix up with room booking. Booked 2 doubles but only1 twin . Manager realised error and apologised. Received dinner on th - Staff very friendly, food good and good location

- Andrew (10/5): We stayed one night and the staff were obliging and the food very good -
- Lecoche (8/5): Very good -
- Aynsley (7/5): Grim exterior but room and staff very nice. - Bedroom and en-suite were nice and newly done. Staff lovely. Quiet. The look of the building - in sorry need of repair.
- White (8/5): Very good - ideal location as we were meeting family. Breakfast was top notch and staff friendly. the bedrooms require a update, but this did not effect our stay. the bed was sooo comfortable.
- Philip (5/5): Passable - Good location for what we needed for our stay. Shower was really poor pressure and had to hold the shower head as the clip was broken and also no shower curtain. No-one around in the morning to check out when we left at 8:30 despite being told someone would be there from 8am. Bar, restaurant etc closed at 10pm despite signs on the website and window saying everything was open until 11:30pm.
- Alex (7/5): Ten minutes walk from Blairgowrie centre - Outstanding breakfast. Thanks Ellie and Alex. Slow to communicate and difficult to get hold of staff. We didn’t know that the bar/restaurant would be closed on Monday when we arrived, that was a shame because the chef is good.
- Stephen (8/5): Very good - Location was OK to reach both Blair Castle and Glamis
- Brian (9/5): Superb - Very friendly. Clean and tidy with plenty of space. Super breakfast
- Samuel (8/5): Good - Food good No catering Monday or Tuesday
No room cleaning
- Quentin (9/5): Superb -
- Rupert (7/5): Good - The new owners are working hard and making clear improvements. Food was good and the best in Blairgowrie. No food or bar Monday evening so had to go to the Wetherspoons in the town... which was surprisingly good and cheap.
- Richard (9/5): Friendly. Convenient. Great stay and great value. - Staff. Excellent. Food in restaurant excellent. Breakfast excellent.
- Rob (10/5): Exceptional -
- Booking.com (9/5): Better than expected - The view of the church.
The friendly staff
The quality of the foods and the interesting menu. Parking fine if you were there in good time.
- Dora (7/5): Underwhelmed with our stay, but staff and restaurant were excellent. - Large room, comfortable bed. Excellent restaurant. On a main road. Window didn’t close. Bed linen not ironed. No chairs in room.
- Tim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anthony (5/5): The staff and owners are trying to improve the standards. - Had good shower and a comfortable bed The food was not very good and no breakfast. There was no staff on the Monday, hence the no breakfast. We were the only people in the Monday!
- Nigel (8/5): Comfortable and charming hotel with bar in the foothills of the Cairngorms - Location & cleanliness
- Evelyn (8/5): Great staff, lovely laid back vibe and the food was outstanding for such a small kitchen. Great value, clean room for a - Fabulous food, great atmosphere and nothing was too much bother Shower could have been better
- Cameron (10/5): Exceptional - Food was great, room was brilliant, staff were all very attentive & overall, we have a lovely stay. N/A
- Martin (8/5): nice stay very friendly owners - lovely friendly welcome large clean well equipped room parking was not great,
- Jonathan (8/5): Very good -
- Trish (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were very helpful and breakfast was excellent.
- Donnelly (8/5): Very good - Well appointed room, comfortable beds, very friendly staff, excellent breakfast Although quick to warm up the room was absolutely freezing on arrival!
- Margaret (8/5): Well worth stopping for the food alone. - Warm welcome and shown to room which was comfortable and clean. Premises have recently been taken over and new owners have made a great job of downstairs restaurant, If they continue this through out the premises it will be lovely. A work in progress! Good shower and great towels, bed very comfortable. Food in restaurant was exceptional with very generous portions. Staff very friendly. Breakfast equally as good and they honoured our booking with previous owners by including breakfast ( this is now an additional charge but still well worth it). Bar is a little impersonal and lacking in comfort.
Bit of a misunderstanding on our return a few nights later when we were told it now operated as an Air B&B on Mon and Tues and were handed keys on our way in. We had expected to be able to eat there again after another long day travelling however Alex recommended an Indian just over the bridge which turned out to be a great find.
Was a bit surprised to find that, although obviously clean, the bed sheets and pillow cases were not ironed and a mass of creases which didn’t give a good impression.
- Jayne (7/5): Mixed views on how this us being run - Location handy with carpark at side of building. Breakfast was fabulous with great coffee and portion size at the earlier time to allow us to get the ferry home. When we arrived we were greeted by one of the owners who told us that, because it was a Monday, there were no facilities on site so no bar or restaurant. Having just travelled 250 mls by motorcycle this is not what we wanted to hear. We were offered alternative places to eat in Blairgowrie which we took advantage of and went to the Indian immediately left over the bridge which was excellent. We had no milk in our room. Two keys on those allocated. One for the bedroom but the other did not fit the front door so we had to leave it on the latch when we went up the town for our meal.
- Lorna (9/5): Superb -
- John (8/5): Would stay again - Breakfast was not included so no cereal and had to pay separately for tea, coffee and orange juice.
The cooked food was excellent and reasonable value for money. Long wait time for breakfst on the first morning.
- Alison (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely room, comfortable large bed, modern bathroom, tea and coffee making facilities There was no milk, it was fine for me as I don't take milk in my drinks but my partner would have liked some milk for his coffee, it was late when we got in so we didn't want to bother anyone
