- Josie (Giuseppina) (9/5): relaxing stay - I had a fantastic 3-night stay as a solo traveller and felt genuinely welcomed and safe throughout. My room was tucked away at the back on the third floor, so it was incredibly quiet, perfect for a great night’s sleep. The highlight was the window facing the shore; falling asleep to the sound of the waves was simply magical. The service was outstanding, with a special mention to Akish, who went above and beyond and was both professional and genuinely friendly. The room was spacious, newly refurbished, and spotless. I’d happily return and highly recommend it! If I had to suggest one small improvement, it would be a wider selection of teas (especially herbal) in the room. There was plenty downstairs and I was able to bring chamomile up from reception, but having it already in the room would have been a lovely added touch.

- harrybT9106NN (10/5): Faultless stay in a lovely hotel - highly recommended - Our walking group of 37 members booked the Kingswood Hotel for 3 nights in March 26. The hotel was spotless and obviously recently redecorated throughout. The rooms were lovely as were the public areas. We had a diner B&B package and had an excellent 3-course meal every night. Nice choices on the menu and all beautifully cooked. The staff were friendly and helpful with Steve doing his best to make sure we enjoyed our stay. Mirshad & Rajeen were managing behind the scenes ensuring a smooth service. Finally my thanks for Catherine and Liz on reception who were particually helpful in setting up the whole experience for such a large group. I'm sure most of us will be back to the Kingswood.

- Sophie (10/5): The perfect first holiday for us, beyond expectations. - There was plenty of choice and flexibility for breakfast. The staff, particularly Rajeen, were so incredibly accommodating, allowing me to decorate the room for my partners birthday, getting him a gift and putting balloons in the breakfast room, giving us cake and extra towels if we asked and answering any questions, even bringing us a fan late at night before the staff finished to make sure we were cool enough. Honestly any questions or requests I had were consistently met with kindness, a desire to please and a clear great level of detail and care. The room was absolutely perfect, wonderful view and loved the sound of the sea, the shower was so hot and lovely, the room was nice and clean and when asked, we got extra biscuits on room cleaning. It’s in the small details. Honestly such a magical first holiday for us I couldn’t be happier ! The double duvet were two single duvets zipped up the middle which at times was a little scratchy but outside of that, everything was just amazing.

We went for my husbands birthday and our first wedding anniversary and we were given a free upgrade when we arrived. The room was lovely, really comfy bed, nice soap in the bathroom. The balcony was perfect to sit and take in the view. Breakfast was delicious, all good quality food, and the staff were also very friendly and hospitable at breakfast. We didn’t have to book a time slot which we liked as we wanted to see how we felt in the morning. We would have loved to have been able to stay longer!! Would have been a nice touch to have a fridge in the bedroom for fresh milk for the hot drinks!

- brian762024 (10/5): Christmas meal a success at The Kingswood - 15 members of our local pétanque club had their Christmas meal at The Kingswood this evening. Our table was nicely decorated and the food was hot and tasty. In particular, the service provided by Mirshad and his colleagues was excellent. Everyone agreed it was a delightful evening.

In everyway from the moment you came through the door to going to.your room which was lovely. The staff were brilliant and made you feel at home with nothing too much trouble catering your never need always with a smile. The food was superb and evening a wonderful experience. Friends had a balcony and larger room for the same price. Poached eggs way overcooked. The waiter did change them but couldn’t eat at the same time as friend.

Excellent breakfast and dinner choices and the drinks were reasonably priced but I was rather surprised to pay £4 for a small glass of peanuts!! Next time I’ll bring my own!!
- John (6/5): Pleasant hotel, but overpriced and if you like good food, don’t eat there. - The location and the decor Although the breakfast was fine, the dining experience was poor. On our first evening I wasn’t feeling very well so just ordered soup while my husband ordered the fish pie. No sooner had our order reached the kitchen and the food was on its way to our table so it had obviously been pre-prepared and this showed in its taste which was lacklustre.Very disappointing for our hotel for which we had paid over £200 a night. We would not stay here again.

- Simon (2/5): Sidmouth's expensive doss house.. biggest ripoff going. - Not a lot...stated it was dog friendly but had to stand my ground getting access into the dinning room as my dog is an assistance dog. felt very uncomfortable. Poor train from the company to staff. Breakfast did not provide as stated...very cheap ingrediencies' and poor average. The room was not to the standard as expected, dust and dried skin in radiators, grimy bathroom . Staff were not trained in accepting assistance dogs.

- vinnie1944 (6/5): Not 4 Star - This a reasonable hotel in a good location on Sidmouth beach front. It is rated as 4 star but it is NOT. It's about 3 star and is expensive for what you get. Be careful of the website and other booking sites because the descriptions of the rooms can be misleading. The standard sea facing rooms can be very small and when you get your booking confirmation back it will tell you that you have a small room when you thought that you had booked a standard room. Some of them with a very limited view of the sea which you have paid extra for. The star system for rating hotels in the UK is very poor and what can be rated as 4 star can be run down and over priced

Rear facing but still a nice view over the town. The bathroom had a large cupboard over the toilet so it's hard to sit on the loo without worrying you're going to hit your shoulder when you get up or down. Unnecessary and an injury risk in a small bathroom.

NO FAN PROVIDED - SLEEP HARD TO ACHIEVE AND UNABLE TO SPEND ANY QUALITY TIME IN THE ROOM. APPALLING TO TO USED AS A GUEST ROOM AND I AM TAKING THE ISSUE UP DIRECT WITH THE HOTEL.

Very welcoming and polite and smiling staff serving the best breakfast we’ve ever had - including 5 stars! What more could you want? We’ll be back!

Previously this hotel provided top quality shower gel/ soap and hand lotion, a bottle of water in the room, an iron and a couple of books. These little things can make all the difference

- 585gordonm (10/5): Almost perfect - Stayed here for a couple of nights with our dog and apart for no parking it was perfect. I booked direct with the hotel and got a great discount on the evening meal and the dog went free. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable about events in the area. The full English breakfast was cooked to order a spot on and the Evening 3 course meals were very good and excellent value at just £20 per head. The room was spotless the bed comfortable with separate shower and bath, I also loved the smell of the soft soap supplied. Location is in the middle of the esplanade at Sidmouth so parking is at a premium and the hotel does have limited parking but this is a seaside town in Devon so excusable. Oh they even supplied a welcome pack for the dog and gave him a free sausage for breakfast, nice touch.

- William (8/5): Excellent Value - Very helpful and efficient staff. The Hotel offers excellent value. Breakfast was good, but we did not eat at lunch or dinner. Our room was adequte but small and was one of their lesser rooms. A lovely position would come again.

- Nancebythesea (8/5): Great for a short break - This was a short break to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Location is superb. We booked parking which was definitely needed but had to first of all park in the bus stop to get a room card to open the parking barrier. This didn't work so we had to buzz reception to let us in. Would have been easier to give directions to the car park to save trying to find a space on the road before getting access. We only ate breakfast here which was really good. It's great to see proper veggie and vegan breakfasts on the menu and the full English was tasty. We did eat dinner here as the veggie/vegan option was too limited but we found fab food at The Anchor and The Swan. Our room was good with a nice sea view. Only issues were the lack of air conditioning and no fan. We had to sleep with all windows open which was okay for 1 of us, but the other was woken by noise. The bathroom was a huge let down. It was tiny and really badly designed. You had to bend down under the wall cabinet to brush your teeth and there was some mould around the shower which also leaked. One of us has a bad back and this bathroom really didn't help. If it wasn't for the awful bathroom my review would be 5 stars. Staff were all lovely and friendly and the hotel is overall very clean. I would probably stay here again but not in this room, and I'm not sure we received value for money.
- WorcestershireJoe (8/5): no change at the inn - No change here since last visit other than the fact that it looks more foreign owned, with the majority of the staff being so than ever before, Little bit puzzling and incongruous one would think. This is definitely an old folks hotel seeming at some time to be an old folks home however all mixed in so there is no problem. Breakfast good, dinner is good, facilities are good, position is good, so overall very good. However the reception and the entrance is totally spoiled by a carpet that is either dirty or well worn.... PLEASE CHANGE IT ... There would be no reason at all not to go again C'est la vie

The staff are fantastic and make you feel so welcome. Breakfast is gorgeous. Evening meals are ok , We wouldn’t recommend dinner in the evening , but there are plenty of places to eat . The Anchor in the town does delicious food ! The position of the hotel is in the heart of Sidmouth with sea views right opposite. You can reserve a parking space when booking in their car park. Lovely seating in lounges and outside. We could have afternoon tea and cake included for free which was lovely . All in all a fantastic Bed and Breakfast hotel , highly recommended . We’ve done the Belmont which is all pomp and ceremony. This is family run and no one stands on parade. Very relaxing . Well done again Kingswood. We will keep coming back .

- John (10/5): comfortable rooms and exceptional service - We were very impressed with the friendliness of the staff and the comfort in the rooms. Both the bedroom and the public rooms were very clean and well maintained. The breakfast and evening meals were superb and we did enjoy having a freshly cooked breakfast brought to our table rather than a buffet style self service where the food had been hanging around. The overall impression was of happy staff creating a pleasant atmosphere
