• hannah (10/5): My experience at the esplanades - The hotel is very well kept and maintained. The room we stayed in was very clean and was very adequate for me and my 2 children. The staff are very friendly and help with everything you need to help you enjoy your stay. Its situated in such a good place to get to the sea front and the centre its a win win all round. There was nothing not to like.

Hotel has seen better days public areas very dated and in need of decoration . No cold water coming out of taps so unable to make a drink.

• Jones (7/5): Good but could do with some work. - The location was excellent. Carpets in hallways were very uneven and quite dated. In our room we noticed some stains on the walls and carpets. Shower drainage wasn’t the best, left standing in water. Tap in bathroom couldn’t be used HOT as it spluttered the water out and made a mess. The room had a great sized tv but it was barely hanging onto the wall.

• David (8/5): Classic coach hotel has amazing views, friendly staff and renovated rooms. - Great location overlooking south Bay, a friendly hotel that is undergoing updating at the moment. We stayed on a Saturday night, live entertainment in the bar was good. All the staff we met were cheerful and friendly. We stayed in a deluxe room on the third floor. Not many gripes really. The window in our Seaview room was a bit high.. odd. We had to stand to see the Seaview we’d paid extra for hmmm.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, and we managed to get a space in the car park which was a bonus, although there is on-street parking nearby. It’s dated and some of the fixtures and fittings are cheap and a bit worse for wear. That is all reflected in the price though, and the place is exceptionally clean and comfortable. We also had a lovely big room with lovely views over the South Bay and the town. If you want luxury, don’t come here - it’s a hotel catering for the over-60’s coach trip client, with bingo or other entertainment on an evening. Breakfast is OK although a bit cramped and the heating was on in the dining room in August, so it was rather warm. There’s also no proper coffee - you get a flask of hot water with Nescafé sachets - but the bacon and sausages were of good quality and the service was good. It was fine for one night and is in a great location.

• muttitt (5/5): Passable for a few nights staff, the room was lovely but staff made us feel a bit uncomfortable as a - The room itself was lovely, especially the sea view from the window—absolutely stunning. The room and bathroom was clean to a good standard. Location is good if you dont mind trekking up and down a step hill, it is right by the south bay and main attractions. The balcony is right next to the bar patio, which wasn't ideal. Noise really carries through the walls; we could hear and feel every move from our neighbors and people in the corridors. If you need peace and quiet, earplugs are a must, or this might not be the best choice for you. Our check-in experience was disappointing. The staff at reception had an attitude that made us feel quite uncomfortable, as if we were being looked down on. Also, there's some confusion about parking. Booking.com says no parking is available, but the hotel’s website and other sites mention limited parking. I contacted them beforehand and was told there was limited parking and we could park on the road outside. However, when we arrived, the road had disc zone signs specifically for hotel guests. When we inquired, we were rudely told they don't offer parking. We ended up having to park a minimum of 10 minutes away.

Soft linens, thoughtful amenities, and blackout curtains guaranteed a restful night’s sleep, while the private balcony became our go-to spot for morning coffee and golden sunrise vistas. Service here is nothing short of outstanding. Every team member—from reception to housekeeping and the bar—greeted us with genuine smiles and took the time to anticipate our needs. The breakfast was tasty & served quickly. We also got parked easily, which was a great bonus! Would have loved "proper" coffee at breakfast, not sachets & hot water.

Well....the female receptionists seems quite rude.unfriendly...could not be bothered...the corridors on 3rd floor were scruffy..paintwork..ceiling falling down and electrics exposed....breakfast at 8.30 am. No later!!??? Never heard of a hotel doing one set time...! Flexibility would have been nice .as I am on holiday ! Not going to work..! Also we got blocked in car park on departure by the coach company...the girl on reception said we would have to wait 20 mins.!!! I don't thinks so !! She found the coach driver eventually and he moved to let us out....with no apology or nothing....

• Claire (1/5): ABSOLUTELY STINKS - THE LOCATION, BUT THAT'S ABOUT IT We were aware of a musty damp smell as we first walked up the stairs and down the corridor to our room. When we opened the door to our room...ROOM 242...we were hit with an awful smell. Probably the reason the window had been left open prior to our arrival. We sprayed around the room with my body spray hoping to mask the smell but it just kept lingering. We believe the smell was coming from the bathroom and in particular, the filthy dirty net curtains which most likely have never seen the inside of a washing machine....ever! We paid for a Double Sea View Room with "fabulous views over the Scarborough coastline" but what the hotel fails to mention is that the view is mainly of a large shipping container, a skip and the bins! Apart from this, the room was dark, the furniture very dated and very much in need of some redecoration. The double bed was actually 2 single beds pushed together with a double sheet fitted across. This made an uncomfortable bulky line down the center of the bed where the 2 mattresses met...oh...and the mattresses were as hard as bell metal! We woke at 6am after a restless night...and we checked out by 7am. Do yourselves a favour and avoid this place. Your money is best spent elsewhere!

• Sarah (6/5): Potential to be great - The location was great and we had a beautiful sea view from our room. The beer garden also overlooked the bay and was lovely to sit out in. The price was good but we got what we paid for! The hotel is undergoing refurbishment and our room definitely needed it. The decor was extremely dated with cracked window panes. There wasn't a hairdryer or iron in the room as stated, although these are available at reception. We were woken by a false fire alarm at 7.20am so didn't get the relaxing lie in we were hoping for.

The hotel was big and the Christmas decorations felt nice. Room heaters not working. We had to wait 1 Hr to get low power detachable room heaters. The electronic ports in room were not working so couldn't charge any device. Staff took another 1 Hr to find a replacement room. Insincere staff. Bad service. Bathroom was too cold.

• Trevor (5/5): - The location The barman really did not want to be there. The breakfast member of staff again just didn't seem happy everything seemed too much trouble Simple things like wiping the bar and restaurant menus down so they are not sticking together
• Paul (5/5): The old girl to restoration! - Great location, friendly staff and impressive exterior. The interior is what lets it down. 1980’s cheap old decoration, carpets from the same generation. Although clean, the hotel needs a makeover so so badly - big restoration project! Location

• Harley (8/5): Great value hotel for family holidays - Great hotel for couples & families. Evening entertainment & bingo on most nights, coffee lounge & games room too if you prefer a bit less noise. Gorgeous terrace to sit out on in the warmer weather & all the staff were really friendly. location close to the shops and beach if you don’t mind steep walking (not a criticism of the hotel though most of Scarborough is like this) Lovely views of the harbour if you choose a room with sea view. Food was great & very reasonably priced & the rooms were comfortable & cosy too. free, on site parking without any issues, I would definitely recommend this hotel The water wasn’t very hot for baths& showers on the first night but was fine 2nd night. We understood this was due to old fashioned heating system that could be improved on

• Dale (8/5): Good hotel in a great location with lovely sea views - Location of hotel with great views and staff very friendly and helpful. Cooked English breakfast was lovely. Room was a little dated.. would also benefit from a small fridge and a hairdryer
• Julie (5/5): Nice side view of the beach was the best part - I didn't have breakfast as not included in price The bedroom wallpaper was peeling off and evidence of painted over mould.
• Stephen (8/5): - Room was small but adequate, but the amazing views from both windows certainly made up for it. Room was not dirty but lots of old cobwebs hanging from ceiling and fluffy dust on lights. Beds were a bit uncomfortable due to thin mattresses (maybe time to replace with better quality). Bathroom was clean but a little cramped. But ........ Despite the somewhat negative comments, we will definitely return to this hotel as we really enjoyed our stay. The stay was made all the better for the attentiveness of the staff who were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend.
• David (5/5): Not very dog friendly. - Lovely views from our sea view room which we were just able to see through the filthy window. Breakfast service efficient. Lovely pint of Worthington beer. The room furniture was old and marked. Curtains in our room hanging off the curtain track. Bathroom inefficient shower operated from the taps resulted in fluctuating water temperature. Unable to take our dog with us for breakfast as no provision made for dogs to stay with owners , my wife and I had to breakfast separately , we have travelled all over the UK and this is the first hotel that has not catered for guests with a dog, other hotels have always had a separate dining area for guests with dogs so why can't the Esplanade hotel.
• Verified traveler (6/5): - The staff were friendly and helpful but the bathroom was in a very bad condition. The towels and bedding was all clean but the hotel has definitely seen better days.

• Sandra (6/5): - Check-in was fine. We were booked on a B&B basis via Expedia . This was confirmed on check-in but was later challenged by the second receptionist . Expedia had not confirmed the breakfast option. All was ok in the end. The hotel was well located and such an easy walk to the seafront or into the main town. A basic room with all that we needed for our two night stay. I would stay again for the location.
