Guest Reviews
- Charles (10/5): - Had a wonderful two night
- LJ (10/5): Sooo comfy!! - Amazing room and the most comfortable bed!!!
- Gareth (10/5): All good but the eggs - Brilliant good location hotel staff friendly - don’t do poached eggs in week
- Floyd (10/5): Heritage Festival event - We enjoyed the restaurant and the accommodation. The breakfast was also very good. This was a perfect hotel for our festival event at Sandringham at a reasonable price.
- Jo (10/5): Hidden Gem. - We had a one night stay at this lovely hotel. Spotlessly clean. Room was lovely (Although very very hot) friendly service.
I would definitely stay here again and recommend.
Thank you 😊
- Mervyn (10/5): Great comfortable night away. - Excellent attic room with very comfortable bed. Food and service excellent.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Great hotel in a good location - Lovely hotel. Nice room and helpful staff. Great dog-friendly restaurant with good food. Really great location for exploring Norfolk by car
- Kuangyi (6/5): - We stayed for 3 nights, Friday to Monday, we paid over £100 per night. I feel a little generous giving it an average.
- Room: The room we stayed on the first floor was large, but the furnishing was lacking and looked dated. There was a huge area of water mark (about 50 x 50 cm) on the corner just above the bed. Not pleasant to look at, and we wonder why they can't just paint it over... There was no luggage rack so we have to put it on the floor and bend over to get things in/out of it. Cleanness was okay, but nothing made me feel it was well looked after.
- Bathroom: Pretty basic. There were only 2 hooks at the back of the toilet door, nowhere to place change clothes, nor a place for face wash or own shampoo in the shower unit.
- Breakfast: It is NOT a B&B so we had to pay £7.5 for a continental breakfast, or ~£10.50 for cooked (weekends only). As there was very little option around, paying for breakfast was a choice out of no choice... To be fair, the food wasn't bad.
- Meals: Same as above, because there was little option around, we ended up having 2 dinners there. Again, food was okay (we had burgers and Sunday roasts).
- Noise: They had a beer garden just under our window. There was no limit to the hours and 2 parties were still chatting after 11pm on one night.
Overall, we felt the place had better facilities in the pub downstairs than the rooms. It is probably better positioned as a pub with rooms, not a 3-star hotel.
A word to the owner? Some TLC pls.
- Janine (8/5): Would recommend - Staff friendly and very efficient. Rooms in grounds not soundproof.
- Kieran (10/5): - Great members of staff, clean and comfortable rooms, very good food.
- REG (10/5): - FOOD IS REALLY GOOD AS WAS THE PRICE
BIT EXPENSIVE FOR DRINKS
STAFF WERE VGOOD
WOULD STAY AGAIN
- Paul (10/5): - Location wise this will not be for everyone as it is a little secluded, but for those whom are looking for a base to use that isn't Town / City centre it is ideal, beautiful setting with friendly and welcoming staff; this was my second stay in as many months and although not my usual choice of hotel (usually boutique / luxury hotels) I found myself submerged in the "quiet charm" of the hotel and staff; I would also add that the beds (mattress topper / linen) is worth of any 5* hotel that I have stayed in; so comfortable with a wonderfully sized bed.
Yes, there are a few elements that could do with updating but this is reflected in the price and my usually very picky self found this all part of the charm / stay.
- Gail (10/5): - Our second stay here, clean well decorated bedroom of a good size (Room9). Quiet as on the upper floor.
Good pub menu with generous portions. It was nice weather so sat outside with a drink before going in to eat.
- SHAWN (10/5): - Amazing chef
- Martin (6/5): Average - Average, noisy room
- Carl (8/5): - Excellent food the service was prompt and friendly .
Room was excellent size and furnishings .
Will return here
- Joanne (10/5): - Lovely room. Staff friendly and efficient.
- Dawn (10/5): Kings Hotel Holt Road Dereham just beautiful - From the moment we arrived we were made very welcome by all the staff
The Hotel is beautiful with original features etc
It has a bowling green at the rear & ample parking
We had rooms that were across from the main hotel which suited us 4 ladies as none of us are under 60 yrs ,( oldest being 82 yrs ) so not having a flight of stairs to climb was fantastic
We had our own entrance to our rooms so having another door you could lock was very reassuring ( room no.11&12 )
The beds were very comfy & the rooms were well heated & roomy
The showers were extra large with lovely soft towels
The welcome tea tray was well stocked & they also left biscuits which was an extra little touch
They had thought of everything you could possibly need
We had continental breakfast the next morning with ham, cheese’s , boiled eggs, toast, cereals, muffins, fresh fruit & yoghurt (weekday is continental £7.50 weekends all the above plus a cooked breakfast choice £10.50 )
We did not have an evening meal or use the bar as we were on the Polar express experience at 6pm
Lovely Hotel we shall be returning in the future as we go to North Norfolk frequently
We spent the next morning shopping in Dereham town centre which we had never visited before very charming & some lovely individual shops
10/10 from all of us
- Stephen (10/5): - The staff were super friendly and helpful. Our room, large, comfortable and warm. Loads of hot water. We stayed 3 nights mid week eating in on 2. The bar was friendly with the locals easy to talk with, whilst the barman kept us all amused with his ‘young person’s’ views on life and good humouredly took all the ribbing directed his way.
Continental breakfast only, except weekends when it’s cooked, but there’s a fabulous old post office a 5 minute walk away with cheerful staff and a good choice of breakfast dishes.
Thankyou.
- Sandra (10/5): - Good food, quick and staff pleasant.
Rooms old but well looked after and warm.
Breakfast lovely so much choice.
- Debbie (10/5): Relaxed Comfortable Stay - Comfortable hotel with good food and good selection of beers on tap.
Relaxed atmosphere
- Richard (10/5): - Easy free parking, amazing food, friendly staff, the breakfast was very good, bed was very comfortable. Will book again!
- Peter (10/5): - lovely stay
- Michael (10/5): - An old coaching in with that character. Annex room superb. Food both dinner and breakfast lovely and all staff friendly and efficient. Book direct and breakfast is free.
- John (10/5): Wow, what a gem of a find. - We stayed on 9th Sept 2024. The room was as advertised with a spacious king size bed, everything was clean and neat. The late afternoon started with a few cask ales, all in good condition. My wife enjoyed her G&Ts.
What made it special was a combination of the interactions from the staff; engaging, helpful, courteous and at times a respectful witty banter.
The 'cherry on the cake' was the food, absolutely marvellous. The homemade pate was spot on it had a smooth and creamy texture with a wonderful flavour and the steaks were cooked to perfection (rare). Of course we had to have dessert to help soak up the wine, a nice reserva Rioja, it all rounded off a very pleasant evening before we succumbed to the comfort of a lovely king size bed with cosy bed linen.
We opted for a continental breakfast, which offered plenty of choice to set us up for the day ahead.
- Lorraine (10/5): - Excellent dinner. Spacious room.Friendly service.
Stairs quite steep, not sure if there’s a lift?
Breakfast was average.
- Holly (8/5): - An off the cuff decision to stay here but we really enjoyed it. Friendly staff, tasty food, nice beer garden and a nice clean and comfortable room
- Nick (6/5): Value for money. - We were well looked after by friendly personnel. Property is a little tired in places butdies not detract from a pleasant stay.
- stephanie (10/5): Fantastic stay - We had a fantastic stay. Big comfortable bed. Outstanding breakfast with really helpful staff. Only downside was a very used ashtray on the ground in the communal entryway we shared with our neighbours. Clearly hadn’t been emptied in a while. Although this is better than cigarette butts on the floor. Just not pleasant to see.
- Peter (8/5): - Friendly and clean
- Ernie (10/5): - Great property and staff with food wonderful
- Mark (8/5): - Nothing ok for reasons I chose it.
- Nigel (8/5): - Friendly staff. The room was large and well furnished with a very large comfortable bed. The bathroom was clean. Being an old property, there were some cobwebs. Teh wifi was not good for us. The hotel is at a road junction with some traffic noise. Friday night was live music downstairs until 11.45 and then activity until 2.00am - ask about it in advance if you are a light sleeper.
- Paul (6/5): - Comfortable bed, could probablly do with more staff
- Tom (10/5): - Absolutely beautiful property that resides in the quiet and tranquil area of North Elmham.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by the front of house staff member who was very pleasant, polite and helpful.
We went up to our room, which upon opening the door, we were amazed at just how big the room was. Super king-sized bed and all the furniture made from solid wood. The bathroom was exceptionally spacious also.
The bed was comfy, there were plenty of facilities (ironing board, iron, soap, body wash, tea & coffee, kettle, mirrors, hair dryer, fan etc), really quiet location, pleasant staff, clean, great food, all at a fantastic price. A well deserved 5 stars all round from me.
- Norman (10/5): - Lovely food in the restaurant. Excellent staff
- Richard (8/5): - Great staff
- Paul (10/5): - We were a group of 4 cyclists touring Norfolk and this is a truly excellent place to stay. The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was very good - not pub food by any standards! - and the beer was also top notch. Highly recommended.
- Dawn (10/5): - Working Team attended and were very pleased with the accomodation
- Nigel (10/5): Ideal for business or pleasure - Excelent stay, I arrived after 9pm staff made me a wonderful sandwich as they had stopped serving food.
- nicola (10/5): - Lovely bar very friendly staff and lovely big bed
- Louise (6/5): Comfortable room but no cooked breakfast available - It was a lovely comfortable room with a very helpful host, however the breakfast was very disappointing as it was only Continental, and there was a lot of work being done in and outside the hotel when we arrived and dust was in the air inside reception. This stay was missing a cooked breakfast!!
- Tim (8/5): Had better stays here … - Stayed here a few times over the past few years but this time had a different feel to it the room 14 when I walked in had a very musty smell that was coming from the bathroom and had To have the bathroom light on to run the extractor fan to help clear the smell also soundproofing between us and the next room wasn’t the best. Lots of locals in the bar and I felt like a bit of an intruder. The Continental breakfast they offered for £7.50 didn’t seem worth it. No hot Breakfast during the week
- Gail (10/5): Enjoryable stay - Lovelly room, clean and comfortable. it was a nice evening so that we were inable to sit outside the pub with a drink. Good food at a decent price.
- Dawn (10/5): - Absolutely lovely place to stay and the food was excellent & all staff were amazing
Would definitely recommend & will stay here again 🙂
- Lorraine (10/5): - We had room 7 it was alovely room clean big and spacious. The staff we very attentive and helpful 5 stars all the way
- Paul (10/5): Spot On 👍 - Fantastic! Lovely greeting when I first walked in to the Hotel, then the fantastic Guinness, steak and mushroom pie, then the wonderful, very clean room, and soooo comfy bed, it was all just fantastic. Thank you. If I’m in the area again for work I’ll definitely be going back. Thank you.
- Sue (10/5): - It was a very nice hotel
- Gareth (10/5): A great warm place to stay - My second time staying here . Very nice rooms and food is amazing . Staff super friendly
- Antony (10/5): Good stay. - We stayed for one night, check in was ok and we were given an appointment time of 08:45 for breakfast, the room was large, clean and comfortable with all you need, on the landing irons and boards were available. The decor in the bar was very dark and dimly lit, the service was good, the food was fabulous, we had a very comfortable sleep, waking to lovely hot shower, arriving at breakfast we were told we were late and should have been there at 08:15, this happened to other guests too, the breakfast was very good, the decor in the dining room was also very dark. I would return again, the food is fantastic and value for money.
- Graham (10/5): Great weekend - Real gem of a Hotel Really Really great food
- Tokunbo (8/5): - The Property is good. The receptionist was quite helpful and lovely. The property is clean and neat.
- David John (10/5): - Friendly staff, clean well provisioned room and excellent food. Would stay again without hesitation.
- Richard (8/5): - Spent two nights at the Kings Head and enjoyed most things. Room could do with more coat pegs/hangers (in the absence of a wardrobe). Really quiet location. Ate there one evening. Liz and Ross work their socks off with the bar and restaurant, which was rather dimly lit for my taste but food very tasty. Plenty of parking.
- Jason (10/5): - Great manager great food great beer would definitely return
- Clive (8/5): Weekend break. - Large rooms, comfy beds. Good bar and dining areas, staff friendly and helpful. Arrived 'late' on a Friday, and found a table to dine on a busy night.
- Ceri (10/5): - Good value for money, with great food and lovely rooms! 25 minutes from the coast.
- Karen (10/5): Fantastic! - We had a fantastic stay! All staff were friendly and helpful. We had a really good breakfast and an evening meal in the restaurant which was outstanding. The room was large and very comfortable. We were overlooking the beer garden which was very nice and tidy. Lots of benches and a play area. We would love to stay here again and recommend it to family and friends.
- Simon (10/5): Nice weekend getaway - Lovely clean large bedroom with en-suite shower. The bed was so comfortable, just the thing after a day of walking.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The dinner, and breakfast in the morning, were both excellent.
The location was perfect to reach most of the coastline within half an hour.
- Kofi (10/5): - The room I got was very clean and spacious; I asked for a room for 3 (double bed and a single bed). The bathroom was clean. I will book and stay in the same room again.
- Lisa (10/5): - Lovely stay! Really nice room, quiet and 30mins drive from all the local sites! Food is absolutely delicious too! Highly reccomended!
- Stuart (10/5): One night stay - Comfortable and well-decorated bedroom, excellent breakfast
- Anke (6/5): - Nice modern ambient, but the bathroom needs a deep clean. Was quite filthy I am afraid.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Our trip to Norfolk - There was only an attic room advertised on hotels.com but when we arrived several rooms were available all at ground floor which made it easier for our cases. On the morning following our arrival the mains water tasted very salty. However after a couple of showers and toilet flushing it seemed to clear the problem
- James (8/5): - Overnight stay in this hotel while attending the Thurston Christmas Spectacular. Hotel is 20 minutes away and ideal for our purpose. Very clean, comfortable and a good breakfast.
- Francis (10/5): - The room was large and warm, bathroom was specious. Very comfortable bed and we had a good nights sleep, we had an event to go to and did not get back in time to try out the bar - next time!
- Graham (8/5): Great little find - Nice comfortable extra large king size bed. Bathroom was fine other than the floorboard noises were a bit strange but expected from a building so old.
Dinner and breakfast were excellent - as was the beer and service.
- Shirley (6/5): - Convenient for a wedding nearby.
Coach House bathrooms tiny and no bathrobes or iron and light over sink worked intermittently.
Bar good s d service good.
Breakfast poor - not replenished for later breakfasts and no offers of more tea or coffee.
- Carole (8/5): - Everything was very clean and tidy and the staff were good
- John (6/5): Good start bad ending - Everthing was good up to the last night, when the meal was very disapointing and poorly presented.
My fish was small and and the batter was dry, plus the chips were pretty tasteless.
My partners meal was bland, with skinny oven chips!
Totally unlike the previous nights meal we had which was very good.
Although they took the meal price off the bill and gave us a free bottle of wine it spoilt what would have otherwise been a good stay.
- Stuart (10/5): - What’s so good about the Kings Head? Simple the staff! Everyone was happy to help attentive without overpowering, friendly and helpful.
The food was excellent at a reasonable price. The room very clean and the bed was comfy with a good nights sleep. We stayed for 2 nights and would be very happy to go back again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice stay in the King’s Head. Good breakfast too.
- Pd (10/5): - The Manager at this Hotel made sure that everything was sorted out for us. Squeeked us in when we had not booked to eat without any fuss and made sure that his team looked after us as Hotel guests.
- Ian (10/5): - Always enjoy staying here, the rooms are very special.
- Michael (10/5): 80th Birthday visit - My Wife and I had a very pleasant stay while attending my sister inlaws 80th birthday party nearby. We stayed in a very clean and well equipped newly converted lodge for two nights.
- Yogi (10/5): - Good friendly staff, accommodated our requests for special items for breakfast. Quick service on room cleaning and replenishment of conveniences. Adequate free parking.
No A/c but desk fan supplied so wasn’t a problem as it wasn’t too hot.
- Jane (10/5): A great stay - Great service. Super comfy beds and amazing food. Coped well with an onion allergy diner and a gluten free diner without making a big deal of things.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect getaway - An excellent 2 night stay. Hotel was perfect. Clean spacious room. Excellent service & friendly staff. Beautifully kept garden & delicious food. Will definitely be going back soon.
- CLIFFORD (10/5): - This hotel was nice and clean with friendly staff. I will call again if in the area.
- Lorraine (10/5): Highly recommend this hotel! - We had required a slightly earlier check in due to attending a wedding in the area. Received the warmest welcome on arrival. Staff friendly, 1 room was ready for us so we could change into our wedding attire. As we left staff wished us a happy day. Rooms were clean and very spacious. Comfortable beds. Breakfast was exceptional and very need. Rob was brilliant!!
- Michael (10/5): - Rob and the team could not do enough for us. The room was so modern and comfortable. the food was excellent. Made a great base for our short trip to Norfolk.
- Phoebe (6/5): - We arrived to an ice cold room so we couldn't sleep for hours until we had warmed up. We weren't even provided toilet roll it was a used empty roll next to the toilet. There were no emergency staff contact details and friends of ours had been locked out of their room, it took us two hours and a lot of taxi money to get it sorted with no help from the staff. Check out was extremely early. Given the price we paid for this I was not happy to have had about 5 hours sleep in a freezing room.
- Paul (10/5): An absolute gem of a hotel - Amazing hotel with food that will leave you blown away by its quality
- Carol (10/5): Great hotel. - Lovely clean hotel, with friendly and helpful staff. Large, spacious room with very comfortable bed. Great breakfast, at an extra charge. Excellent value for money. Would recommend and stay again.
- RIC (8/5): - Nice
- Angela (10/5): - Staff were very friendly. Nice welcoming atmosphere in the bar and food was good. Room was lovely and clean with a very comfy bed - would definitely stay again!
- Martin (10/5): Just a great place! - I don’t leave views.
But this place is excellent, especially if you have a dog.
You are roomed in the converted stables. Very good quality.
Food (Breakfast and Dinner) is first rate.
The young lady serving in morning was a treat.
If you stay there get up to Holkham Nature Reserve. The beach is spectacular.
- Russell (10/5): Business trip - Great hotel, nice people
