Guest Reviews
- paul (8/5): - Easy check in, on first impression room was a good size , bed comfortable , bathroom the toilet looked like it had been broken for dome time, we did message North gate to inform them along with photos, but no response , crack in toilet seat is unhygienic !
Cobwebs in the bathroom as well
Breakfast was ok
We did inform someone about the toilet seat again when we checked out
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Listed as 5 stars but no staff there so no service. Difficult to get in. No breakfast until after I had to leave and no way to request it earlier so I didn't get any. Not as advertised. I would class this as 3 star at best. Very overpriced for what you get. Won't be staying there again.
- Marion (8/5): - Easy to book, check in and leave.
Lovely room. Large and tasteful. Comfy bed. All very clean.
Bathroom quirky and nice, good towels, sparking clean but one or two painted areas needing attention.
Breakfast was fine, staff member very pleasant.
Parking at the back was excellent but not well signposted.
Communal areas could do with update (hall/stairs, breakfast room). Stair carpet looked dirty which was unfortunate first impression.
TV remote not working (batteries?)
Location excellent.
Overall a very nice stay.
- Katrina (10/5): - The Northgate is in an excellent location which allows you to explore Bury St. Edmonds with a short walk. The rooms and the grounds are beautiful and the syaff amazing.
We did the chefs table dinner and had auch a fantastic meal!
Would highly recommend
- JUDITH (8/5): sejours Bury St Edmunds - lovely hotel situated 5 minutes walk from the center of Bury St Edmunds.Bedroom nicely decorated and the bed very comfortable. Difficult to dry hair as no plug in the bathroom and no mirror in the bedroom!! Unfortunately we were in a front bedroom which is on the main road!! very noisy from 7.am
- Amy (10/5): - Super helpful and friendly staff, amazing breakfast and comfy bed!
- Jayne (8/5): - Beautiful rooms lovely hotel
- Richard (6/5): Overall it’s decent hotel but overpriced - This is a decent small hotel close to town centre with free parking.
We paid for a superior room and for the price we paid we were a little disappointed. Decor a little tired especially in the bathroom but main issue was no hot water in the evening; shower was only tepid. Also room was very cold at night even after turning radiator.
We tried to grab something to eat in the restaurant around 17:00 but were told it was fully booked even though it was empty. Suggested that we could order snacks from the bar, these were very limited, 4 options I think.
It’s a nice small hotel but if you are changing 5 star rate then you need to do better.
I did report hot water situation at check out but the young lady seemed very inexperienced and just said she would report it.
- Curtis (4/5): - Nice area, nice site, but bed being held together by tape, for the price a night isn’t great, and unfortunately temporary traffic lights the day we stayed which meant constant noise, I am sure in a different room without the temporary traffic lights would of been a much different experience.
- Julie (8/5): - We stayed one night all good. Would have liked a larger choose in restaurant.
- Andrew (8/5): - A little disappointed with the food not very hot and breakfast was definitely hot at all
- Paul (10/5): - Enjoyable stay. Very efficient service throughout with attention to detail.
- L (6/5): Gone very downhill - Our third stay and probably our last has really gone downhill.
We were put in a very hot room with fan that barely worked may just of been brand but terrible, street facing room so very noisy with windows open to try and sleep due to hotness of the room.
ONE coffee pod in room for coffee maker ! So not even one each!
Cleanliness was not as good as previously either, floor in bathroom did not look as if been cleaned properly as hair and dead fly in toilet.
Very disappointing.
- Ian (10/5): A Perfect Stay - Everything was perfect!
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Loved the outdoor terrace and tipi
- Ian (10/5): Don’t hesitate to stay here. - Fantastic stay. Staff are terrific. Friendly, courteous, and very aware of client needs. Barman makes superb cocktails with a degree of theatre! Very professional. Food was superb - dinner and breakfast. Very convenient location in a very beautiful city. Highly recommended. We will be returning.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - We stayed just a single night in The Northgate and overall we found it to be a great place to stay. Clean, pleasant decor, food was good and the staff were excellent.
We had dinner in the restaurant and were very impressed.
Free parking on-site was an additional sweetener and greatly appreciated.
The one single criticism that you could level at our room was the fact that it was front facing - and the traffic noise was noticeable.
- Ian (10/5): Just what we wanted - Lovely hotel in a great location.Staff were friendly & professional. Breakfasts were great & we enjoyed a few drinks in the bar. Will definitely be returning 👍
- Danielle (10/5): Feels special! - Lovely experience! Staff on point and very accommodating. Hotel and room well kept. Can't wait to return for food and cocktails!
- E (8/5): Nice little hotel - Well positioned on the edge of the town centre with free parking at the rear. Nice decor, good sized rooms and very clean.
- Chris (10/5): - Fantastic hotel. Excellent service and amazing food!
- Monika (6/5): - The hotel is a very old building with no air conditioning. Unfortunately the room I got was facing the high street that was really noisy making it unpleasant as I had to open the windows do to the heat.
The stuff very kindly offered that I could switch rooms but the only other available one was right right above the kitchen and the kitchen fan was just as bad. Personally, not a great value for money. Looks are not everything after all.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff were excellent, very attentive and looked after us very well. The room was comfortable and nicely decorated.
Only downside was the stairs as we both have creaky knees. Would go back again but book a room on a lower floor.
- Judy (10/5): - Nice venue, good service and totally relaxing.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Food was excellent. Was especially impressed with the vegan black pudding dish on the dinner menu.
Our rooms were right at the top of several flights of deep stairs so older visitors might want to ask on which floor their rooms will be.
- Richard (10/5): Amazing hotel - A fantastic Hotel, amazing food and a very chic cocktail bar
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful room. Exceptional bathroom. Very comfortable bed. The restaurant food was amazing!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved the room and the beautiful facilities. Only suggestion would be to have a more comfortable bed (too soft).
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely rooms. Great cocktails.
- Sam (10/5): Fantastic Gem of a Hotel - Great location just a 2 minute walk from the town centre of Bury St Edmunds. Hotel is spotless with very attentive and polite staff, great boutique rooms and quiet and spacious gardens out the back to have a drink or snack.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I love that the staff gave us danishes and left it by our door knowing we had to check out early in the morning and missing breakfast hour.
- Paul (10/5): All good. - Nice town...good park, cathedral and shopping. All easily accessible from hotel.
Room spacious and comfortable and really enjoyed both dinner and breakfast.
- Anna (8/5): Lovely relaxing stay. - Lovely room, even with restaurant and bar downstairs very quiet. View of next door house not so great. Lovely attentive staff. Breakfast delicious but needed to ask for milk & butter.
Charged me twice even when I mentioned I paid online. When I called to sort it out they couldn’t have been more helpful.
Saying all that we would definitely stay again.
- Rick (8/5): Overnight stay - We have stayed here before but not sampled the dinner which, was amazing! Because of a late booking we had the top floor which I would not recommend to anyone with no mobility problems.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved staff, didn't like small std double bed with foot board in family room, make it a king size without foot board!
- Helen (10/5): Great find! - Very comfortable and well-appointed room at the Northgate. Close enough to Bury centre to walk in.
- jasdeep (10/5): Nice, cosy, friendly hotel - Staff are always friendly and helpful.Service was great, as its doesn't have a large amount of rooms t feels more of a home away from home.
- Leana (8/5): Lovely stay in this gorgeous hotel! - A lovely stay in this boutique hotel. Very close to town centre- less than a 10 min walk. We ate in the town for our evening meal but did have a drink in the bar area which was lovely.
The room we had was on the top floor. Fine for us but would have been an issue for the less able. The room and bathroom were finished to a high standard. Only a few minor points like only 2coffee pods provided which meant we didn’t have any for the morning. The hot water was also a little bit temperamental but again these were very small points.
The breakfast was delicious and first rate.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice close to town everything within easy reach great town friendly
- Verified traveler (10/5): Excellent - Lovely hotel, a real luxuary. Excellent food and service
- SCP (10/5): - Lovely, small hotel, with friendly and professional staff. Very relaxed environment. Easy walk to town.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Town center hotel. Comfortable and recently renova - Lovely cocktail bar , friendly service.
Room was clean and well appointed. Duvet cover was ripped and caught my toe all night!!!
- Michael (8/5): - Lovely hotel, great service, spotless room.
- GARY (10/5): Not cheap but good value:You get what you pay for. - Lovely spacious room ensuite. Very clean, comfy bed.
Overlooked a main road but traffic noise not too bad. Good noise insulation from other rooms.
Great bar/ restaurant area & top service.
