Comfortable, friendly place in south Bath location — good value
Liked · We wanted a south Bath location. Simple, swift, friendly check in. Really comfortable bed, all super clean. Quiet. Lounge with tv. Great hosts. For the uninitiated (and those tired from driving!), finding a car parking spot/parking zones can be a tad confusing at first. Actually, Devonshire House has reserved space in a car park nearby at £5 per day, and you can usually find free parking too, close by, though free parking is at a premium in the area. It all worked out for us. All good
- Karen (10/5): Beautiful stay in Bath - Excellent breakfast, beautiful bedroom comfy bed Parking is limited
- Sargent (9/5): Lovely spot in a very convenient location - Lovely clean rooms with everything you need.
An excellent continental breakfast, thank you!
Very conveniently located for buses into the city, no need for a car. Nothing, it was all great.
- Philip (10/5): -
- David (9/5): Great location, great place to stay. Quiet and comfortable. - Lovely place, super easy to stay here.
Great room, bed, shower, friendly host.
I hoped on a scooter back from the centre of bath.
- Janet (9/5): - Close to a pub for food. Area information very good. Bit far out of town but buses are available.
- Camilla (9/5): Quiet and comfortable - Good location with walking distance to town. There were also frequent local buses. Very quiet and comfortable room. Friendly and helpful owners.
- peter (9/5): -
- Guy (8/5): -
- Jenny (9/5): Really great place to stay. - Clean. Quiet. Comfortable bed. Informative and friendly host. Convenient to bus stop. We booked a second night😁 Tiniest but cutest ever bathroom.
- Service (10/5): Perfect - Everything, it was spotlessly clean, good location, great host, parking easy...perfect 👍 😀 Nothing
- Tania (9/5): Lovely staff, nice and well connected accommodation! - Very well connected with the centre of Bath (6 mins by bus or 20 min walk). Very friendly owners and very easy access to come and go as you wish. We organised an earlier check in and everything was perfect. Breakfast can be organised and is delivered to your room for a little extra. Plenty of mirrors, tea/coffee, storage and a handy hairdryer. Had a great time! The room was spacious enough for a short stay but the bathroom feels a bit on the smaller side (we booked the twin room). More information on breakfast options or items we could swap out would've been nice (for example, plant milk alternatives. A menu of sorts to choose between whats available would've been nice).
- Carin (10/5): Highly recommended - Lovely place. Had a very spacious room with a comfortable bed. Bathroom perfect. Very quiet at night. Breakfast was really nice with fresh fruit, egg and much more, delivered to the room. The hosts were so friendly and welcoming. This place is a little outside the city area and you can easily reach it by bus. There is a store just nearby. Wifi works well. I highly recommend Devonshire House. Nothing!
- fiona (10/5): Lovely place close to Bath centre but away from tourist hordes in Bath town - Lovely room, great bathroom, heated towel rail, friendly and helpful hosts, excellent breakfast available, located a bit out of town which is good (too many people in town) and can walk to town although quite steep or bus for 2.50 pounds single trip, great pub & restaurant Bear Inn nearby (7 mins easy walk-luckily as the pub adjacent to B&B is starting renovations) as well as cafe, Tesco Express, vintage shop. Nothing - was easiest to get here from train station by cab for 6 to 7 pounds and work out buses later
- Karen (9/5): - Host Chris was incredibly helpful and welcoming. A few surfaces dusty but overall clean and not something that would worry me.
- Bimala (8/5): Very friendly staff and nice property - NA Overall all good
- qi (10/5): - It's literally the most comfortable bed mattress I have ever slept on!!!!
The landlord lady is super nice .

- Alison (9/5): Very clean & nicely appointed, reflecting the overall ambience of Bath. - Didn't require breakfast but feel sure it would reflect the property's high standards. N/A
- Jillian (10/5): An ideal base to re-visit old haunts! - The hostess was warm, welcoming and helpful with relevant and useful information. The location was ideal for getting into Bath Cirty easily but also close to the countryside around Bath. This was one of my first holidays on my own and the owner made my confidence grow for future trips. Everywhere was beautifully clean and comfortable with all facilities required so nothing to improve upon!
- Rhiannon (10/5): - Very friendly and accommodating staff. Perfectly located for going into town and lots of pointers of places to eat and drink.
- Julie (10/5): Excellent - Nice and clean. The owners helpful and frienfly. Would stay again. I would of liked a room away from the front door but apart from that all good.
- PlatypusDuck (9/5): -

- Stephen (10/5): -
- Anne (8/5): -
- Eddie (9/5): -
- Michel (7/5): - L'espace restreint, pas de support à valise, pas de table pour manger assis sur le lit.
- Michael (8/5): - Louise was a great host and very helpful. Parking available quite near. 25 min walk into the main high st . £7 taxi back up hill 😀
- Ramona (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay immensely from the warm welcome to our last moments!
- Linda (10/5): Cozy , comfy room with a scenic walk to get to city Center. Good bus service! - Having a delicious breakfast served to our room was wonderful! All the extra touches like providing q-tips & cotton balls, & bathroom air freshener was appreciated. Having the parlour/living room to sit in and relax with a beverage at the end of our day was really nice! Nothing, really.
- Marta (10/5): -
- Trinity (10/5): - The staff here was amazing and the rooms were great! Next time I’m in Bath I’ll be staying here.
- Philip (10/5): Just a wonderful stopover and should have stayed longer! - Beautiful and very comfortable! Everything was clean and we had an amazing breakfast. Easy bus stop into the city or just a short walk to shops.
- Andrew (9/5): Very comfortable. - Ground floor room. Comfortable bed. The weather!
- Jen (7/5): -
- David (8/5): - Great stay. Not for anyone who struggles with walking. There are options to ride the bus and that would help anyone who doesn’t want to walk uphill for a mile or so.
- Yu (10/5): - Friendly host,very nice room.
- edipas (10/5): - La habitación era bonita, tal cual las fotos, limpia, ordenado y todo correcto. La ubicación también. Un acierto en general. Nada en especial.
- Nicolaides (10/5): Weekend away to Bath - The communication with the propritors was very good. Great location and we were given great advice on what was available.
Clean and comfortable..
- Lindsey (10/5): - Chris and Louise were so friendly and welcoming! The room was spacious for three people, clean, and comfortable. Chris was helpful in planning our trip around Bath and the area. We look forward to staying here again!
- Luke (10/5): - Good breakfast, good rooms, great hospitality! Overall great stay!
- Wendy Marie (8/5): - Walk into town is downhill. Good bus route for way back
- peter (9/5): - The room was spacious and very clean. I had a comfortable stay. I would use the property again and would recommend it.
- David (8/5): Devonshire Delights - Nice clean room. Had shower and the all important tea and coffee making facilities. Because there was no cooked breakfast you didn't have to get up early, and were left to your own devices. Only slight gripe was my pillow. It was like sleeping on a packet of peas. The bed was comfortable, I did find another pillow as i was checking out!! I'm quite particular about my pillow! And it didn't spoil my stay. I'd stay there again.
- Esther (8/5): -
- Alejandro (7/5): -
- Jason (10/5): - Property managers were very nice. Great communication throughout stay and booking.
- Geoffrey (9/5): -
- Barbara (7/5): - Netter Empfang.
- Helen (9/5): -
- Catherine (10/5): - I really enjoyed my stay at Devonshire House. The owner had great communication prior to my visit. I ordered the optional breakfast, which I highly recommend. There are not a lot of options right around the hotel, and the breakfast was a lot of food delivered right to my door! The walk into the center of Bath is a nice one and downhill. You may want a taxi coming back! A very quiet, clean, comfortable, and spacious room. The owner was very helpful and friendly. Not as central to the main attractions as other hotels, but a good price and excellent stay.
- Marco (10/5): All good in Bath - All good A little bit far from the city centre but not a big issue 20 mins walk. Feasible
- Hasnain (8/5): - The place was nice but the room was facing the main road and there was lot of noise at night.
- Adkins (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ted (9/5): Superb -
- Amanda (8/5): Very good - Comfy room, breakfast was amazing
- Julie (8/5): Great place near to Bath - Great location and the room was very clean and had everything you needed. Staff were very friendly. Lack of good pillows
- Irene (9/5): Excellent place to discover Bath - Breakfast was great value for price, very friendly and helpful host. Room was very clean and had all that was needed
- Vicky (8/5): - Great spot to walk into Bath. Bed was a bit uncomfortable but otherwise a nice stay.
- Alistair (10/5): A lovely place to stay in Bath - A super place to stay for our first trip to Bath. Liz was a very welcoming host and very helpful during our stay. Our rooms were comfortable and spotless and had great facilities.
The location was easy to get into the city centre using the local bus service.
We enjoyed the optional breakfast which was very filling and set us up for our day.
A lovely find and recommended 10/10.
- Henry (6/5): Pleasant - Lovely and welcoming staff.
- Jenny (10/5): Exceptional -
- Scott (10/5): Excellent overnight stay - Very friendly and helpful owner greeted us upon arrival and room was extreamly clean and comfortable.
We didnt have breakfast so can not comment on that, but overall the stay was excellent and just what was required.
- Drew (8/5): - Lovely area. Good parking arrangement. Friendly owners
- Marco (6/5): Pleasant - Too hot. Too small. Too much light in the morning.
- Mrs Louise Ann (10/5): Lovely comfortable stay - We had a lovely stay hotel was in a good location and room very clean with everything we needed especially the extra fan!
Louise and Chris were very friendly and helpful and sent plenty of information before our stay and lots of tips for seeing all the sights.
- Danae (9/5): Superb -
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great solo place! - Very well contained place with all the amenities you might need. Split level/loft style with bed and toilet up a small winding staircase and shower between the living room and kitchen. Lovely hosts who live across from the cottage/apartment and easy access to the city down the hill. I took the bus up. :)
- Craig (10/5): - The owners were wonderful and very efficient. They were very friendly also
- Karen (9/5): Loved Bath, would stay at Devonshire House again - Lovely hosts, in room facilities were fine, large bathroom. We were able to keep our bicycles in a locked area and off site parking at a nearby bowling club was offered. Parking in Bath is not common so this was a bonus. For £5 a day, we could leave the car where it was and enjoy walking or the local bus service to get around. The owners have set up a very helpful website which provided heaps of useful information about Bath, places to go, where to eat etc including discounted access to Thermae Spa which we took advantage of. The breakfast service, it was served in the room which was not ideal as there was only one chair so one of us had to sit on the bed. Would much prefer a dedicated breakfast room. The breakfast was very filling, cereal, croissants or rolls, yoghurt, fresh fruit and a hard boiled egg but there was not a choice.
- Kennedy (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely room with everything required. Owners were friendly and helpful.
- Frances (8/5): Very good -
- Anthony (8/5): Very good -
- Julie (10/5): A lovely weekend break in Bath - A warm welcome from lovely hosts. A comfortable room with great facilities and an ideal location for Bath city centre. We would definitely recommend.
- Ciara (9/5): Superb - Fresh coffee and cafetière, guest lounge and fridge
- Leonardus (10/5): - We arrived late and Louise gracefully called us and texted the detail how could we retrieved the keys and check-in. Plenty of free parking around the hotel. Louise is very kind and the property was lovely!!
- Steve (10/5): Exceptional -
- Steve (9/5): Superb - Our host was lovely, the room was great, good location A bit expensive
- susan (10/5): - This is a lovely little hotel where the owners have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable. It was clean, my room was spacious, and the owners were generous with their time explaining how to get the most out of a short stay in Bath. The hotel is a bit of a hike outside of town, but it was good to be in a quieter part of town. There were a number of restaurants near the hotel. Would stay here again.
- Paula (10/5): Best B&B in Bath - Great location, incredibly knowledgeable hosts with lots of recommendations and amazing continental breakfasts. We had no complaints.
- Jacqulyne (10/5): - The reviews are true! Lovely stay and the owner goes above and beyond. 10/10 will return!
- Iris (10/5): Perfect for a stay in Bath - real value for money. - Everything you needed was there. Good location - a swift walk downhill into town - but then you can catch the bus back! Just perfect and Louise knew all about the area and let us know a lot if ins and outs. It was perfect for our needs.
- wendy k (10/5): - Our room was very spacious-complete with a seating area, a makeup table, a curio for clothes, and a large bathroom. We also appreciated the in room coffee and tea, which was a great added bonus.
You're just steps away from a grocery store, making it easy to grab anything you need. It's about 20-30 minute walk to the Baths main bus station but you can take the bus for $2-$3 per person just down the street. Ten to fifteen minutes to the panoramic views of Bath. In the opposite direction, a short 15-20 minute walk uphill takes you to the Red Lion Pub, which is reasonably priced and a variety. Closer to town, you'll also find Bear Inn and a Fish and Chips shop, both with great value and variety.
We didn't try the continental breakfast due to allergies, but it is available at an additional cost. Next door is the Devonshire Arms Pub, which serves beer, wine, liquor, and crisps (but no meals).
Devonshire's owner personally introduced himself, offered great local recommendations, and even waited with us for our Uber on the day of departure. He also left us excellent directions to the best panoramic views
- Alison (10/5): - We had a lovely stay. The hosts were great with lots of information. Easy to walk downtown and then return home on your choice of bus. Delicious breakfast!!
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bryan (10/5): - Very Accessible to all areas of Bath. The host Chris was very accommodating, and a great resource for the sites in the Area. The Continental Breakfast was great.
- Amiee (10/5): Comfy cottage with lots of thoughtful little touches - We stayed in the cottage. I'm obsessed with the bed/bedding was literally the best bed I've ever slept in. Would've liked a downstairs toilet but that's the only slight negative
- Stephen (9/5): Superb - Location was handy for access to central Bath by foot
- Fiona (10/5): - A great stay at a lovely guest house. Louise and Chris are very friendly. Very comfortable room with an outstanding breakfast.
