- Helen (10/5): Absolute gem of a stay - This place is an absolute diamond - it feels really special and excellent value for money. There's a live pianist over dinner, and lavender spray for your pillows. All the staff were ever so welcoming and friendly. We showed up on bikes, after a very tough day on dartmoor and were warmly welcomed into dinner, excellent food, excellent wine, super comfy beds. I will be back over and over again!
- Anthony (9/5): Charm and comfort on Dartmoor. - The hotel is beautifully located at the foot of HayTor and sits in extensive grounds. Its staff is good. The Breakfast excellent. The garden pleasant. It is comfortable, very clean and whilst recently refurbished exhibits an old world charm helped by its attentive staff. A wider choice of Evening meals. There were few Vegetarian options and one of those was not available. Vegan alternatives are not the same as Vegetarian meals.

Three staff in bar but 10min wait before acknowledged . Again waited with other guest to be shown to breakfast table for too long. - Cinta (10/5): A great comfortable hotel with lovely staff - A lovely hotel in a unique location. The Staff were all so friendly and helpful a real asset to the hotel. All areas were beautifully looked after and very comfortable
- Emma (10/5): Wierd fire alarm sounded at 10.30am and door knocking despite putting a we are asleep sign on our door - We like this as on a Thursday we had booked the Bridal suite with bath by windows on top floor where there was no lift with dogs for a surcharge paid direct to property on checking out. We liked the breakfast/lunch. We also enjoyed walking round the grounds and straight onto the moor for a long dog walking/hiking trip. A cleaner knocked on the door and then a fire alarm went off at 10.30am. We had put a do not disturb we are asleep sign on the door and had told reception this was our plan in advance. Check out was at 11am. After a dawn hike and early breakfast we packed up & went back to bed from 9am til 11am so the alarm and knocking came as an unwelcome surprise. Also staff complained our car alarm kept going off but it turned out to be somebody elseâs car.
- SARAH (10/5): A geat mini break at The Moorland Hotel, Haytor. - The hotel is in an excellent location for visiting Dartmoor and the staff are superb in their service to you. Nothing appears too much and have a friendly, cheery manner. The hotel is very welcoming and I particularly liked the layout as well as the decor/furnishings. We choose not to have breakfast, as we tend to prefer early lunches but enjoyed food from the conservatory & bar menu, on two evenings, which we both thought were well presented and delicious. There is some variety but check the menus as some may find them limited. From our experience in dining at The Moorland Hotel, the staff are very attentive and have no doubt they would accomodate a vegatarian/vegan palate. The garden from the conservatory is stunning and the azaleas were in full bloom when we stayed. Plenty of seating outside for al fresco dining (or just drinks!) too. A great walk from the doorstep to Haytor Tors for getting the blood pumping. BED GEEKS-PLEASE ONLY READ IF YOU ARE FUSSY ABOUT YOUR BED/PILLOWS! We always have issues with beds, wherever we stay, as we both find a softer bed, although comfortable to start, plays havoc with our backs. We are also very picky about our pillows, so found the room pillows difficult to get used to but we didn't bother to bring ours with us this time (that's how weird we are about them!) so picked up a couple while out and about. To be absolutely fair to the hotel, as this is such a minor thing in the the grand scheme of our delightful stay, we didn't mention this, as it's a personal preference and we experience this in every hotel we visit.

The staff are all very friendly and attentive, and I was very well looked after on my birthday. The room was huge (deluxe double) with nice clean bathroom and excellent tea and coffee making facilities. There was a lovely place to sit near the window in the room, a Dyson hairdryer and the bed was comfy. The breakfast was a worthwhile add-on with a decent buffet and great menu. Also the location is ideal for walking and quiet! Thank you so much, one of the best hotel stays Iâve ever had, weâll be back for sure! Only slight downside was location of room meant we could hear voices from downstairs until about midnight and then early next day. I wear earplugs so mainly my husband who struggled with that.
- Samantha W. (10/5): Peaceful retreat with comfort, nature & great food - We had a wonderful stay and truly enjoyed every moment. The hotel is clearly being continuously renovated, and it shows in all the right places. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, making it easy to relax and get a great nightâs sleep. The only feature that still hints at the buildingâs older character are the room doors, which donât fully block hallway noise. That said, it was very quiet during our stay. You might notice other doors closing if youâre paying attention, but it didnât disturb us or affect our sleep at all. The bathroom was spacious, and the room itself was very well equipped with everything you might needâfrom a coffee machine and kettle to a Dyson hairdryer. A really nice touch. The location is simply beautiful, set within a national park, which makes it perfect for evening walks or just enjoying nature. Alternatively, you can unwind in the hotelâs own pub or restaurant. The food and drinks there were excellent. Breakfast was a great mix of continental buffet and freshly prepared hot options from a menu. Everything was spot on. We would happily returnâhighly recommended!

Zimmer eher klein. Im Restaurant haben wir bei den Preisen mehr erwartet. Restaurant und Pub haben die gleiche KĂŒche, aber eine unterschiedliches Angebot mit unterschiedlichen Preisen. Lieber im Pub essen.

- Victoria (10/5): Lovely stay - We really enjoyed our short stay here, and would love to stay again. Perfect location, you can see Haytor rocks from the road and you can start hiking from the hotel. The room was spacious, with a huge bed, a radio playing classical music and a complimentary lavender spray. Communal areas had a beautiful design, with cosy sofas. Live piano in the evening. We enjoyed our dinner at The Conservatory, it is nice that they offer catch of the day from Brixham market. Breakfast was good, with different cooked options available. Great value for money. A few minor things: The shower head made strange sounds when in use, and the water pressure could be a bit stronger. There were mirror lights in the bathroom which didn't have a switch, so we couldn't turn them off. The fruits provided for breakfast were a bit disappointing, it would be nice to have better quality fruits.

There was only one disappointment, Very surprised that the hotel didn't have any EV chargers and unfortunately the one recommended a short distance away was not working.

The food was very nice. We especially loved the mocktails and surrounding landscapes! The food is quite expensive and I don't appreciate being forced to pay a compulsory tipping fee.
- Karen (8/5): Dissatisfied with service - The location is amazing This is out 3rd stay , previously we had sleep spray and fudge in our rooms this time nothing. Previously we had a normal room this time as a treat we went deluxe but this room was smaller and the finishing not so good. The last 2 times the biggest problem was service and we hoped for better but no staff to order room service we had to go down to restaurant to order then it came up in 3 stages as they missed chips and salad. Such a shame as it has the bones to be fantastic as itâs so convenient for Dartmoor and the setting and building is lovely

- Hilary (9/5): Relaxing, welcoming and thoroughly enjoyable. - Excellent idea to have brunch available, it meant we were unhurried in the morning and was sufficient for our needs without having to be down in time for breakfast! - thank you The staff throughout were pleasant, friendly and competent. We were impressed. Not a lot. Maybe a cushion on my dining chair, - some of the seats are low for short people.

- Smith (10/5): - Everything One female staff member was a little rude at breakfast service which is very unusual for this venue. We didn't like to ask for anything because when we initially did ask, it all seemed too much for her so that was disappointing.

- Polly (9/5): - The hotel and the room I stayed in was lovely and clean. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The bed was comfortable. Nice touches in the room, with tea, coffee, and a coffee maker. Dyson hairdryer!! Pillow spray left in the room as well. There was also a desk / dressing table which was perfect to work from. Lovely toiletries in the bathroom. I had an evening meal which was very good, but did not eat breakfast. I would stay again and I would recommend. All good! If I was being picky, would like a little more space in the room!!

- Tracey (7/5): Stay was good but not as good as previous stays here - Great location right next to Haytor with dog friendly rooms that open straight on to the gardens. Nice big lounge with comfy sofas. We have stayed a few times before and it was all previously excellent, this time not so much, hopefully better next time. A bit disorganised with tables left uncleared for a really long time in the lounge. Breakfast items not topped up unless staff asked even though it wasnât busy. Very limited menu available on first night.

- Polly (9/5): Perfect spot for exploring Dartmoor - Great hotel right on the edge of the moors. It's a tiny bit dated in the rooms/hallways, but this is simply the style of the property and nothing to detract from the enjoyment. The team were super helpful and looked after us well during a 90th b-day celebration lunch. Thoughtful dog treats and toy in the room - cute touch. Just one small problem with the room key not being set up correctly (twice) which meant a couple of trips to reception from our room at the far end of the hotel. Minor issue. Mixed experiences with the food at lunch - mostly very good, but question the 'Brixham Catch of the Day' being a farmed salmon fillet. Again, not a big deal for this occasion and we would happily stay there again as a couple.
