- Elizabeth (9/5): Great Boutique hotel with everything going for it! - The bed was really comfortable! Our room was charming. The staff were super helpful and kind. Location was great-- very near a number of top restaurants, the central train station, and walking to the harbor. Nothing
- Cordula (9/5): -
- Pauline (Paula) (10/5): Great location and amenities with super efficient, helpful staff! - Friendly staff, great service, excellent room and close to everything Nothing
- Kellie (10/5): Amazing hotel will definitely be back. - Great location and service. Nice and quiet. All the little things included made it an amazing stay.
- Darcy (9/5): Beautiful rooms and a lovely building with rooftop area, right in Surry Hills - Beautiful rooms in a rustic yet modernly renovated building.
- Craig (10/5): -
- Ina (10/5): Indulging in beautiful design care for detail and lovely staff - Design and location
- Jerry (10/5): Hidden gems in Surry Hills - Fantastic location, walking distance to central train station and located in the nice area in Albion street
- Hans Kelderman (10/5): Amazing location with top rooms - Perfect hotel with super room and bed and very good location niets
- Kokkalas (10/5): Very homely and exactly what I needed. The staff were professional, friendly, and very helpful. - I absolutely loved the cute terrace, the honesty bar with a selection of snacks and drinks, the unique layout and the way the heritage of the building has been maintained with the added modern comforts. I would have liked some variety for breakfast. The pastries were lovely, but things like cereal and toast would be a good add on!

- nycgirl3000 (8/5): It's the little things... - Fantastic location. Friendly and helpful staff. Very clean. Comfortable bed. Would consider staying here again. However, there were some little things that keep me from giving this a 5: Most importantly--if you stay here, I advise asking for a side room. This is what we had, and we could still hear street noise. I wore earplugs to sleep and it was not a problem, but I can't imagine how it would be if we actually faced the street. There was also a loud banging in our room that we couldn't identify until halfway through our stay, when my husband discovered that it was both of our windows rattling every time the wind blew! He stuffed some toilet paper in each one (I don't know the details), and the problem was solved.
As my last comment may have suggested, this is an old building--nicely renovated, but still: The lift was out of service the entire time we were there. (The staff of course took care of moving our luggage.) The water pressure was not good.
Lastly, although the room was comfortable and lovely, there was literally nowhere to unpack your things beyond a little bit of hanging space.
Again, the hotel is in a truly fabulous location, and we did have a price range that we needed to stay within--so we knew we wouldn't get perfection. All in all we were happy with it.

- Susan (9/5): Very comfortable beds which left us feeling refreshed after our stay. - A very quirky place to stay. Nothing

- Rebecca (10/5): - The complimentary pastries were delicious! Loved the artworks. The coffee machine didn’t seem to make a full cup of coffee.
- Annie (9/5): A wonderful stay for a special occasion - Wonderful stay for a special occasion. Beautifully appointed, friendly staff and close to everywhere we wanted to be. We got caught in the lift.
- Matthew (10/5): -

- Cassandra (6/5): Would not pay for it again - Great interior ; shower was great with rain shower Walk from parking could only be done in daylight ; far from great to only have one lift especially when it breaks down; no water provided at beside; bed was quite firm; AC was loud and a clear view into lower rooms was evident.
- Debi (8/5): Fabulous, great staff and very comfortable. - Great location. We upgraded when we got there as the standard room was a little small for 4 nights with no view, the new room was fabulous. The breakfast was a little disappointing, only pastries available and fruit. I mentioned this and they bought in some yoghurts which was perfect. I can’t eat gluten so it was a bit restrictive to start however they went above and beyond to cover my needs. Very much appreciated.

Average size rooms Soft pillows
A little expensive
A little noisy as it's near residential apartments
- joanna (10/5): Loved it - Ambience had such homely vibes loved the fitout and staff were exceptional
- Alexandria (10/5): - The decor is stunning, the bed was so comfortable, the room comforts like robes, T2 tea, and rainmaker shower head were excellent, complimentary breakfast was a nice surprise, and the available self-service accoutrements were a bonus.

- Tour695616 (6/5): Great Staff, But Our Stay Didn’t Live Up to the Michelin Recommendation - We stayed at the Crystalbrook Albion because it was recommended on Michelin Guide, but it did not meet our expectations.
The hotel itself was cool and the room was updated, but I would highly recommend staying far away from the “Cosy” room. It’s advertised as a room that can sleep two, but that is a stretch at best. No closet space, super limited hangers for dresses or dress shirts, and no walking space in the room. You’ll find yourself living on top of each other if you’re traveling with two.
The small room booking was likely our fault, but here’s more details on where the property itself let us down:
- Extremely humid rooms. We were traveling in March when the summer temps weren’t even at their peak, but we still found our room to be humid. We had the cool air cranked down to 20 Celsius at night and would still wake up to a humid room and wet clothes.
- Drain flies were everywhere. We had them in our room and saw them all over the lobby with complimentary breakfast.
- The walls are paper thin. The hotel advertises that the rooms are quiet, but the noise from the hallway and from the room next to us was very loud compared to others properties we’ve stayed at. This kept us up at night and woke us up early in the morning.
- The spout on the sink in our room didn’t fit the sink, so we had trouble keeping water in the sink. The spout was too large for the small sink that it was attached to.
- The lights on the safe in our room wouldn’t stop blinking. The orange lights on the safe kept us up at night.
The staff were amazing and attentive - they are one of the highlights of this property. They did a great job of making us feel right at home and helping us with anything that came up. I would say it was a Michelin-grade staff for sure!
We split our time between multiple hotels and found that the price of this hotel wasn’t justified based on the above review. Hope this helps for your next trip to Surry Hills!
- Sharon (10/5): I want to keep this a secret! - Everything! The room, the comfort, the location, the staff. Had to rate among one of my best hotel stays in Australia. Loved having decent tea, most hotels prioritise coffee and forget us tea drinkers.
Don’t be put off when you arrive and see you’re in an Alley… the location is actually great. Lots of restaurants close and some really fabulous ones too.
I chose the hotel because it was 5 minutes from where I was working, but I have to come back. Love it.
Special thanks to Haumet who was there when I arrived. Nothing. It was pretty much perfect. I had one small issue, spoke to them in the morning and it was sorted.

- SaS149 (8/5): - Tolle Lage in Surry Hills
- stanley (9/5): - Fresher pastries
- Lauren (9/5): Charming Property in a great central Sydney neighbourhood location - The location is amazing. Beautiful neighbourhood with lovely restaurants and cafes nearby. Easy walk to train station. Walkable or public transport to CBD Better offerings for snacks and drinks from the butler's pantry/snack bar in the evening.
- Emily (10/5): -
- Cecilia (9/5): -
- Anne (10/5): Comfortable and lush - Loved that the staff were super friendly and helpful, loved that I got offered a tour on arrival and received many good local recommendations for dinner. Room was very comfortable and lovely. The entrance for checking in was a little confusing, but I figured it out eventually.
- Alan (10/5): -
- willroons (6/5): Charming but wouldn’t return - Great location and hotel has lots of charm. We had a suite which was very spacious and beautifully decorated. However the suite had two televisions both of which were not working for our three night stay. There is lots to do in Surry Hills but we were looking for some downtime and would’ve liked to watch some movies and TV. Staff were apologetic but ultimately no solution was offered which was disappointing.
- Sarah (7/5): Comfy bed in quaint hotel in great location - slightly lacking in vibe - Great location.
Appreciated the provision of coffee and pastries.
Stay marred by exceptionally noisy guests in an adjacent bedroom (and lack of soundproofing) - I had to go knock at their door at 3 am to get them to be quiet after putting up with the noise for literally hours- and had a plane to catch the next day. Seemingly night staff were also aware of the noise issue created by these guests.
- David (9/5): Exceptional property…well thought out, friendly, comfortable and in a fantastic location surrounded by or very close to - Exceptional property…well thought out, friendly, comfortable and in a fantastic location surrounded by or very close to amazing food/drink options. Nothing

- Joe (4/5): Location very good but make sure you check room size before booking - The cozy room is very small for 2 persons with large cases. We had stayed in several hotels on our trip and this room was very cramped. Our fault by not reading description properly.
- BayouBear (10/5): A quiet place to base your Sydney experience. - What a treasure and an incredible staff, nestled in a quiet neighborhood this exceptional boutique hotel is close to public transport, amazing restaurants and all the Sydney attractions.
If you’re as fortunate as we were, Chelsey will be there to welcome you, she knows the city and all the best ways to experience it.
Our room was quiet, comfortable and clean. Housekeeping is incredible and worked to accommodate our schedule and the morning pastries were always delicious.
- scot (10/5): Very nice. Location good very quiet - Quiet. Nice people good bed Room small.
- DeLacy (10/5): -
- Roman A. (9/5): stylisches, kleines, charmantes Hotel mit kleinen Zimmern.
- Lisa (7/5): -
- Brownkiwi99 (10/5): The place to stay near crown - This place is absolutely lovely, have stayed here before but have moved up in rooms. Go for level 4, best light and views, lower you look at adjacent buildings. Fantastic roof terrace to enjoy makes this place special and really close to crown street, bills etc. reuben hills is across the road. Big thanks to Vibhu on reception, will come back again and again
- Luke (6/5): Visually pleasing hotel off a hidden lane - It’s visually pleasing but a little hard to get into as access is off a hidden lane and then the lift was out so we had to climb 6 sets of steep stairs with our bags to get access to our room. Lift was out - very not fun climbing 3 sets of stairs to our floor
- Sarah (8/5): Loved it! Would stay again - Amazing location, and clean rooms with tons of charm Rooms were smaller and crack under door let in a good amount of light so was harder to sleep
- Nick (10/5): Friendly, relaxed, and perfectly located for both city centre and beach. - Location. Considerate and helpful staff. Nothing.
- Nicole (7/5): Great location. Hotel has no gym, pool or restaurant. Cool place to stay but simple - Location Staff. Very strict. Turned up 1hr early on a Sunday. Made me wait until exactly 3pm to enter room. Saw people arrive on the Monday and get straight into room at midday. Knocked on door at 11.05 - 5mins after check out. Got put in the underground slightly mouldy smelling room. Hmmmm

- Andrea (9/5): Great location, lovely quirky hotel. Lots of great bars and restaurants in walking distance. - Location could not have been better. The room was compact, but had everything we needed. Complimentary pastries every morning were an absolute highlight. Staff were excellent and very accommodating - especially Julian. So many great restaurants and bars within walking distance. Would have liked it if the bathroom had a door separating it from the rest of the room. Small things, like a towel hook outside the shower, would have been helpful. More storage around the bathroom basin would have also been good for toilet bags, etc. Our TV didn't work during our stay, and we couldn't get any streaming services working - it turned out to be fine for us and we had a TV detox!

- Wei Yen (7/5): Great location! Nice room. - The location is great! The room is clean and comfortable. The staff is nice and accomodating. The gate was too slow. It was raining and we got wet because of it.
- Penelope (10/5): - Amazing place to stay in the city. Location is excellent. Staff members go above and beyond. Rooftop is beautiful, we spent the afternoon in the sunshine enjoying some drinks. All the little details were great, bathrobes and the beautiful bathroom. Loved the free breakfast too, pastries and fruit were lovely!
- Bernardo (10/5): -
- Leah (10/5): Beautifully designed property, a hidden gem! - I love the history of the property--a former convent. Beautifully designed, very comfortable despite the smaller room size. Employees were very helpful and welcoming. Great restaurants and cafes nearby. A short walk to Central Station. Nothing! Would love to stay again.
- Mara (8/5): - It was a very chique city hotel. The hotel staff was very kind and supportive with every issue we had during our stay - thank you for that!
- Helen (9/5): Loved it. Love crystalbrook and their vibe! - Amazing decor, cute rooftop space to relax in, rooms are stunning and staff were awesome. Wasn’t clear that the main entry is down a dark and what looks like a dead end back lane. I arrived after dark and not knowing I was going the right way on my own was a little daunting as I head down a dark back road!
- Jason (10/5): - Excellent location. Walking distance to everything but still in a quiet and cute local neighborhood.
- Tatyana (9/5): Cosy converted convent in great location :) - I liked the decor and aesthetic of the hotel. The beds were comfortable and the room had nice decor. There is a really cute rooftop terrace area as well which is good for breakfast. While there isn't a restaurant on-site, there is a really good Italian restaurant literally next door. The location is really good as well and, having stayed at other historical hotels, I thought the condition was very good. Check-in process was simple, there was a tour upon arrival and the Honour Bar has a decent selection of snacks, drinks & beauty products. Would stay again. Overall the main thing I'd improve about the hotel is to have more savoury breakfast options as most of the pastries offered are sweet. It should be noted that the main entrance is also through a narrow laneway which some Uber drivers found challenging to access especially if there are cars also parked in the street and the gate can be a bit slow to open.

- joanne (10/5): Fathers Day weekend - Such a cute little boutique hotel very close to all of the Surry Hills shops and restaurants Just a comment on the bathroom. The toilet was tiny and the frosted glass door was around the wrong way which meant you could see in not see out. Obvs the “glass guy” put it back to front

- Nicol (8/5): Very happy to stayed in this hidden spot in Surry Hills - It was luxurious, and i am very happy that i stayed at the Crystalbrook Little Albion . I must of misread that that there was a bar at the hotel .
But I was happy during my stay
- David (10/5): -
- alex (10/5): Fab location- would stay again. - Good hub and central location for us- good local cafes and coffee.
- nga444 (10/5): Boutique elegance meets historic charm at Crystalbrook Albion - From the moment I arrived at Crystalbrook Albion in Surry Hills, I was captivated by its unique blend of historic architecture and contemporary design. Housed in a beautifully restored heritage building, the hotel retains stunning original features like exposed brick walls and Gothic arches, which create an inviting atmosphere full of character and warmth.
The rooms are thoughtfully designed, offering all the comforts of modern luxury—plush bedding, stylish décor, and excellent amenities—while respecting the building’s vintage charm. I particularly loved the rooftop garden oasis.
The location is unbeatable for exploring Surry Hills, with an abundance of fantastic cafés, restaurants, and boutiques within easy walking distance. The nearby laneways buzz with vibrant energy, yet the hotel’s private courtyard and courtyard parking provide a peaceful escape from the urban bustle.
The staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay, offering seamless check-in and attentive service.
All in all, Crystalbrook Albion offers a memorable stay that perfectly balances heritage charm with modern comfort. It’s an ideal choice for anyone looking to experience Sydney’s culture and style in a boutique setting. I can’t wait to return!
