Guest Reviews
- L (10/5): -
- Amanda (6/5): - Lovely older couple running the place and you really get an authentic experience as it is their home that they share out with visitors. We had some translating issues, but the man was always happy to help and make an effort for us.
It was very helpful that they sent picture instructions on how to find the guesthouse before checking in as we would not of found it without the instructions!
We chose the backpacker room with a shared bathroom as saving money is important to us. The room was very cozy and included some nice little snacks for us. There was hot water and soap in the shared bathroom and tea/coffee available in the common area. -Everything seemed clean enough in the room and communal areas, however, our room must have had some issues with mould as we noticed our pillows had mould inside them and we could not risk using them and breathing in the mould which was a shame because everything else was cozy.
-The walls are very thin but luckily the other backpackers were very respectful :)
- Charles (10/5): -
- Elsie (2/5): Cheap but not worth it - The hotel was in a great location and had a beautiful view The whole place smelt of mould. The towels and bedding were old and stained, one pillow even had mould on it. The shared bathroom was very dirty, bin overflowing and empty shower gel bottle. It's an apartment which has been subdivided so it's not a real wall which means that you can hear everything from the shared bathroom and living room.
- Marek (7/5): A homely stay - A very homely stay in an out of the way location. Check in was easy and so was finding the place. The property has a video and photo instruction how to get there and is well worth a look. It is a bit of a trek though with lots of steps. While we stayed there, we found an alternative route avoiding Old Street as it is VERY busy and slow going with a pack. The place was nice and quiet with plenty of walks and hikes near by and, of course, good access to Jiufen Old Street. The place could do with a bit of a clean and updating.
- Geena (10/5): - This is a proper homestay that actually has residents (not all “Homestays” in taiwan do) and is in a quiet beautiful neighborhood in Juifen. Short walk to the tourist area but so much more chill and lovely. Nothing! The room is basic but it’s also affordable.
- Nguyễn (10/5): -
- Ariane (9/5): Würde wiederkommen - Gute Lage, wenn man nicht direkt im Trubel sein will, aber auch nicht so weit laufen will. Direkt nebenan ist ein Teehaus.
Sehr nette Inhaber.

- Jade (8/5): Very good -
- Maria (10/5): 100% Recommended - Lovely, Lovely Owners, very kind and helpful.
Nice little room with good view.
Hot shower and clean throughout.
Free tea / coffee / water.
Ideal location.
- Ka (6/5): The view was nice - The view was nice
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Barak (10/5): Exceptional - Very lovely facility. This is my second time spending the night in this facility and if I'm ever back a third time I will stay then too.
- Kryštof (7/5): Good - Cozy, clean room, in a great location and with a lovely host, for a great price.
The room is very small, and while private, you can hear everything in the hall or in the other rooms, as there's only a slide door which doesn't protect from any noises.
The WiFi is veeery unreliable.
- Ruby (3/5): Poor - This accommodation is located higher up the hill within Jiufen and tucked to the side so it is quieter and less touristy which is really nice to get to see that side of Jiufen.
The couple who run the place are nice and although they don’t speak any English, they are warm and make communication work. I assume that it is due to politeness and the fact it’s a kind older couple running the place, that perhaps many issues have not been raised in the reviews much.
We found this accommodation to be really unclean. The bedding we know was clean as he was making it when we arrived. However I honestly don’t believe that any other aspect of the room or bathroom have been properly cleaned in a long while. Even on the walls in the bedroom there was dirt and on the floor particularly under the bed, it was obvious it’s not been touched in a while.
The shared bathroom was so unclean it felt horrible just stepping foot in there. Dust has turned hard and there is an obvious layer of dirt and dead skin on the tiled walls.
I appreciate that it is on the cheaper side and therefore you should expect lower standards particularly as it is several rooms sharing one bathroom, however even in most hostels with shared dorms you still notice that the shared bathrooms are paid close attention to and cleaned regularly given the shared nature of them.
- Empimano (10/5): Exceptional -
- Serena (8/5): Very good - Nice location to explore Jiufen It was a bit cold and very humid due to the rain, the heated blanket saved me
- Elizabeth (8/5): Very good -
- Barak (10/5): Exceptional -
- Zakria (10/5): The best budget-friendly stay in Jiufen - The uncle is very helpful, he waited us to check in beyond the given time, and lent us his umbrella when it was in heavy rain. Bed is cozy, free flow tea is great!
- Dave (7/5): Good -
- Jennifer (7/5): Good -
- Megan (8/5): Very good -
- Varunya (9/5): Superb -
- Shaked (8/5): Very good - A local family place, close to Jiufen Old Street. Good place to spend a short night for little money.
The facilities are very(!) simple but it is well documented while booking and the property sent sufficient information beforehand, so it was exactly what I expected.
- Ludmila (8/5): Room was small but cozy, beds with heated mattresses. Equipment according to price. Quiet lokality. - Room was small but cozy, beds with heated mattresses. Equipment according to price. Quiet lokality. Heated matraces, sillence
- Jordie (10/5): Exceptional - So lovely and nice. Even though we were a little bit late the owner stayed up to wait for us :). Beautiful view and very clean rooms. Easy access directly to the room we stayed in without having to go through the other rooms.
- Fran (7/5): Good - - quite, not too close to the crowded old street - wifi is weak, navigation is difficult even for basic searches
- Kaelie (6/5): Pleasant -
- Old (7/5): Really very quiet.good for rest - Breakfast Not included . For booking A step is high to the property. For young should be no problem
- Deadbeatpixel (8/5): Very good -
- Németh (6/5): Pleasant - The village Size of the room
- Dominika (9/5): Perfect location for the Jiufen stay - The location is perfect, just few minutes from the main sites of the city. The family was really nice and helpful. I would recommend this place! :)
- Khulan (10/5): Exceptional - I enjoyed my stay hostes were very kind thanks
- Pascal (8/5): Good hostel for 1-2 nights - Shared bathroom with hot shower
Fridge available
Good location a little bit off the main road at the other end of town (5-10min walk)
Strong AC
Free juice and chips in the room Tiny room (feels more like a box in a container)
Only one shared bathroom for 6 rooms
Owner speaks only very little english
- Jan (7/5): Good - Simple accommodation in a good locality. There was just one bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet all together for about 6 double rooms. If all the rooms are occupied it might get busy.
- Fani (10/5): Super nice! :) - It is the home of an adorable Taiwanese couple. On the top floor is the B&B. It has a living room with sofas, TV, books, coffee and hot water. They take care to leave shoes outside the rooms and give you shoes to wear inside. The room was small but very comfortable. They gave us milk tea and chips. The bed and pillow were really comfortable and the air conditioning worked very well (which made us very happy, because it was very hot outside). There is only one bathroom to share between the four rooms. They were very kind and sent us a message letting us know before arriving :)
- Elisser (8/5): Very good -
- Joanna (10/5): Homely - Very homely, cosy and clean guesthouse run by a couple. Lovely view of the sea. Host upgraded my room to one with a view as there was no one staying in that room, so that was very nice. Towel, soap and shampoo provided and even a small snack and drink in the room. Nothing
- Richie (7/5): The owner is nice and we had a comfortable quiet place to sleep. - Very good quiet place to stay. More privacy A room has a little bit smell of molds
- Giulia (10/5): perfect for what i needed - single room for very good price. very calm environment away from the busy turisty steeets. felt at home.
- Ko (10/5): Exceptional - The house was in a nice spot—it was next to trees, and I could hear insects humming outside. That was really soothing to me. Additionally, the location was quite cozy. Perhaps it was a little distant from the old street, but it was just good since when you go up, you can also see the view of the ocean below.
- Gustavo (8/5): Nice place to stay - Calm and cozy. Good views
- Romuald (5/5): Cheaper accommodation in a tourist village - We were able to check in earlier. The owner was ok with cash payment on arrival and didn't insist on prepayment via bank transfer. We got clear instructions with the pictures how to find the place and there were some orientation signs in the streets. Very heavy smell of damp in the bedroom. Very dirty common areas-they weren't dusted for long time.
The village itself is just a tourist trap.. it's all about crowded night market these days. Is it worth visiting?! I expected a totally different thing.
- Soma (7/5): Good -
- Nicolò (10/5): Lovely homestay! -
- 力克 (9/5): Superb -
- May (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lukas (8/5): Very good -
- Michel (8/5): Very good -
- Kelvin (8/5): Very good - Facing the hill with maximum privacy. Corner unit. The air con is on and ready for us during arrival. Need to walk far from the main entrance. The path to the property require a lot of stamina to ascend the steps. Not friendly for elders / big luggages. But is good for me as we had very minimal carrier with us.
The bathroom is spacious and useable. It come with very very simple design.
- Julia (7/5): Very basic, you get what you pay for - Location is good
It was cheap
- Chalandre (8/5): Quiet and beautiful place - Charming place and very nice owners. Perfect to have a quiet break in the mountains.
- Sheauing (4/5): Will not stay at Juifen ever - Did not like it Room was very humid and did not smell good
- Gloria (5/5): Passable - Humid, very small room
- Lim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Man (6/5): Pleasant -
- Sophia (8/5): Very cozy! Simple accommodations, but very quiet, clean, and affordable. -
- Arata (9/5): As a whole, it is good cost performance. And reception old man is very kind to teach us. - The heater in the bed. It is warm during winter season It can be clean beside window area. It has some mold.
- Whoelse (9/5): Superb -
- Marlien (8/5): Very good - The accommodation is basic but it's a good budget option if you want to stay in Juifen. The owner doesn't speak much English but is very nice. The view from the place is great and there's also free coffee. Only one bathroom shared between a few rooms and no seperate sink or toilet. Rooms are very small and basic and there's not much noise insulation.
- Andreas (8/5): Very good - nice view because on top of the village, free tea and water, good shared shower, comfortable room, feels like vacation at your taiwanese grandparents :) many steps with luggage
- Ju (8/5): Very good - This is a family house so you won't find the super clean-modern equipments and rooms as in a lot of hostels in Taiwan. There is a system on the matress to heat the bed, which is essential. It was calm, but there was no other guests (all rooms are in the same small corridor apart from the main house). You still have hair-dryer, water dispenser, umbrellas, etc. and some welcoming snacks. It is individual rooms, not dorms. The bathroom is a little subpar for Taiwan (for a lot of other Asian countries, it would be normal) with toilets in the same room and no separation whatsoever on the floor. You must be autonomous as the family is not speaking english and is rarely visible anyway (but the young woman welcoming you and giving you the keys is nice and try to help with Google translation). There is one bathroom-toilets for 4 rooms. It is a 5 min walk from the end of the old street, so maybe 15 min from the bus station, going up (I wouldn't advise carring a heavy suitcase).
To chat before arriving, I had to use a translator.
- Aliza (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pei (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christine (7/5): Top of the Hill of Jiufen - There are two entrances which allow you to go out without bypassing the common area. The home is very old and needs updates. Only bath towels were provided with no face towels. The snacks given were stale. Toilet did not seem clean enough.
- Chai (8/5): Very good -
- Taj (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alexhere1 (9/5): Superb -
- Kim (9/5): Good memories at Linyuan Village as the place is full of retro vibe. Room is clean and cosy, uncle and auntie are so fri - Love the awesome view of mountain and sky Lack of a sink outside the bathroom
- Hong (10/5): Your hostel gives us a warm and nostalgic feeling, reminiscent of the comfort and familiarity of visiting our grandparen - Linyuan village’s friendliness and enthusiasm have been a pleasant surprise, alleviating initial concerns about the hostel's location at the end of an old street. This unique location has allowed us to explore the area more thoroughly. Additionally, the thoughtful provision of FREE snacks in our room makes our stay feel even more reminiscent of visiting our grandparents' house—a truly welcoming and comforting experience.
Note: remember to open the desk drawer to find treasure (full of snacks)
- Ping (5/5): Passable -
- Andrew (8/5): Very good - Great location, fantastic room and AC Wasn't able to get the wifi to work and bathroom was a bit busy, but great location and price made up for this.
- Tuatini6 (10/5): Fantastic value - For the price, I couldn't have wished anything better.
- Elisser (8/5): Very good -
- Evans (9/5): Very pleasant - Nice location with a beautiful view of Jiufen from the bedroom window. Aircon worked great. Was a quick walk outside and down some stairs into old street.
- Raziel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sean (8/5): Great place - Could do with a little sound proofing - First off, its very basic so might not suit some people but for us it was really nice stay. Small cosy room with comfortable bed close to Jiufen Old Street. Hosts didnt have any English but were friendly and check in was easy even with the language barrier. Shower had warm water but was quite hard to regulate
No sound proofing, so could hear all the goings on in all the other rooms
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional - The staff was really nice and the place very cute.
- Steffany (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jan (10/5): Exceptional - The landlord was very helpful and nice person. The place was beautiful with the good vibe. I can definitely recommend!
- François (5/5): Well located but dirty and Host unfriendly. - Good location, inside the town so very easy to go inside the little towns. The host was not fridendly at all. I know that they don't speak english but really they juste took the money, shown me the room and once I was in the room closed the door without even saying good bye.
The room was dirty. I found a lot of dust and even a used condom juste under de bed. The Price IS NOT consistent with the non quality of the room
- Brenda (9/5): Nice comfortable room - Great view and privacy. Great location apart from the crowds but still close enough The room was ok
- Jia (9/5): Value for money with good view - Not the newest place on L2 but the view from this place is good! The room felt cosy and bed is comfortable. Walkable from the touristy part but has a lot of stairs. It was fine for me - I had a backpack, not wheeled luggage.
I was the only one during my stay so had the shared toilet to myself. The local elderly couple helping out knows only Chinese so take note. I was able to check in before 10am.
Had a stomachache on my last morning there but the uncle was very kind to tell me not to rush myself checking out. The aunty told me about the pharmacy nearby too. Linyuan Village required a deposit to confirm the booking, which I got my Taiwanese friend to help via bank transfer. They might allow full cash payment on the day itself, but didn't confirm this with them.
They replied my messages via Booking.com's chat portal at first, but later insisted on messaging through LINE app. A bit of a hassle to download the app and find their handle.
- Sara (9/5): Cozy homestay - Cute family-run homestay place run by a granny and her son and granddaughter I believe. The room was clean, bed was comfy, and they were very kind. The walls are not soundproof at all so I could easily hear people in their rooms. The place is also kind of difficult to find and quite uphill. So if you have heavy luggage, best to reconsider.
- Tatsuya (9/5): Superb -
- Erica (8/5): Very good - Is a nice place to stay while at Jiufen. Near to the shop lot. Nice host and nice view. The toilet just have one. Need to queue up. Either woke up earlier or just waiting 😁
- Remy (8/5): Very good -
- Zoe (6/5): the house stank of cigarettes and the rooms were damp. there was only 1 bathroom shared between four double rooms. we - the house stank of cigarettes and the rooms were damp.
there was only 1 bathroom shared between four double rooms. we were two of five guests and this was a big annoyance.
