• Sarah (8/5): Queens head Durham - Had a very enjoyable stay,, you check in at the bar in the pub. Very quick and friendly room was very clean. Stayed in room 1. Bathroom looked like it had a refurb. Only downside was no remote for the tv, but landlady said it was on order, no problem as can turn over with the buttons. Whilst having a drink in the bar we spoke to the landlady and she said she had only been there 12 weeks so was trying to get the pub back up and going after being closed for a while.

The door to the room had clearly been forced open at some point and the key and door numbers don’t match ie I was in room 7 but keys had a fob on for room 17. The shared bathroom was dated and dirty so other than having to use the toilet I waited till I was home to shower. Yuck !
• Kathleen (6/5): - Room was a good size. Close to a Sainsburys Local and a bus stop. About 30 mins walk to train station. Pub downstairs was a wee bit noisy. Doesnt serve breakfast but you can go to Wetherspoons in the town. Nice enough for a short stay.Outside needs renovating.

• Jeniffer (8/5): Stay in Queens Head, Gilesgate - This was a fine hotel to stay in for a couple days, and the people working there were friendly and helpful. Shared bathroom was clean enough for the most part, as was the little kitchen used. Towels, coffee, tea, and TV were in the room, which was nice, and the bed was comfortable. It's not a fancy hotel, but works for solo traveller looking for inexpensive accommodation. 20 min walk to city centre and buses run right by the hotel.

• Bishawraj (4/5): Dirty and requires renovation. - Property felt filthy and unclean with the exception of the bed which was decently comfy and sheets clean. I had a shared bathroom stay and it was dirty in there with hair in the shower and dirty shower curtains etc. I didnt feel good staying there other than just sleep the night.

• Raglan (8/5): - The room was very pleasant as were the staff. The only issue was the music in the bar below is on until 11.30pm, which would be a problem if you needed an early night.
• Helen (2/5): Avoid at all costs! - Book 2 nights in a superior room!! So bad we had to abandon and book elsewhere. The music from the bar was SO LOUD and didn't cease until 25 past midnight. Then the goodbyes and tidying up noise began for another 30 minutes. Didn't sleep a wink! Nobody available the following morning to discuss and no answer to calls or emails. Broken glass in car park, broken windows and the beer garden was 2 dirty broken and rotten wooden bench tables. DO Not Book to stay here!!!
• Nadia (4/5): - I’m not sure what this was like as I didn’t stay. When I arrived the pub was busy and being a woman on my own I felt intimidated to go in. When I asked if I could have my money back I didn’t hear anything back so I assume I will not see that again.

• Verified traveler (2/5): No sleep and lots of swearing until very late - No welcome and bar staff didn't respond when we arrived. They just stayed in the other side of the bar. A 'local' had to tell us to check-in around the back of the bar, but there was no signage for this. Rooms of same classification/cost have different specifications which aren't stated. No chance of a good sleep/rest. On handover of keys, we were warned that there may be noise until 11.30, when the pub shuts, but this went on until after 00.30 with raised voices arguing and swearing up until this time. We definitely don't expect anything too fancy, but we won't be returning.

• David (4/5): - I stayed for just two nights at the Queens Head. The room i stayed in was decent & i was happy with until i checked the mattress which was soiled, dirty & stained sadly. The kitchen facilities available for guests to use was pleasing. The Queens Head bar is great although as a hotel i would not recommend or stay there again. This is not only because of the dirty bed mattress It is down to the noise from bar downstairs & busy road noise outside. Furthermore The Queens Head is an overpriced Hotel & simply not good value for my money afterall.

• CARL (8/5): Comfortable but noisy - This was an overnight stay whilst I was in the area for work. It was quiz nighy in the pub below and the sound on the PA system must have been deafening for the contestants as it was very loud for me, especially in the music round.

• Gareth (2/5): - AVOID!!! What a shame, having stayed previously we wanted to give return business to this pub. Arrived and welcomed given key to room. That was the only thing good about our experience. The bedroom we were in was a family room which had seen better days, the mattress on the double bed was broken. We requested a non smoking room but might as well have not bothered because the amount of smoke in the corridor that then came into the room was constant. Bathroom was OK but very tired. The kitchenette should be condemned. Two fridges to use but not cleaned, when we stayed their was old mouldy food in both and they were just generally dirty. Music from the bar was loud as they have changed into a sports bar which they do not list on online booking platforms. I don't expect glamour for the cost we paid but I do expect a response from the owner. Sadly they have IGNORED all my emails as well as all the calls from the booking site to discuss our stay. Such a shame
• Verified traveler (4/5): Comfortable but very cold accomodation. - At check i asked would they be turning the heating on in the room during my stay. Yes the receptionist replied. Unfortunately this was not the case. The room was very cold and to the best of my knowledge the radiator was never turned on in the room having felt it a large number of times. Ended up having to sleep fully clothed and still wasn't warm enough. Room and shared bathroom facilities were very good overall.
• Martin (10/5): Great value stay at the very-friendly Queen's Head - Very friendly bar staff who showed a genuine interest in those visiting the Queen's Head, including recommending local places to dine - good to chat with ... All were first class, although I really only got to know Leah (the "face of the place" early to mid-week). Good selection of beers and spirits ... Inch's cider on tap. The 'Sports Bar' is well laid out - plenty tables/seats; televisions showing sporting events; pool table; dart board, etc. The outdoor beer garden is a great resource. The bedrooms with the shared bathroom are very basic - but excellent value for money. I had a great stay at the Queen's Head and hope to return soon.

However, as a business traveller, I wasn't expecting music to start at 20:30 and to go all the way to midnight. My room was directly above where the music was being played so I had no chance of even attempting to go asleep. I would definitely not use this hotel again. I will be going back to hotels.com and demanding a refund.
• Heather (6/5): Relentlous music - The room was pleasant but being in a pub meant that the music droned on until 11.30 and the door was continually slamming and vibrating the room.
• Rolf (10/5): Motorcycle overnight - Had done 400+miles from top of Scotland. Hotel was easy to find and had plenty of parking. Was given a fairly safe parking for the bike, but had to unload completely. Provided a full comunal kitchen and I had frozen goods that I could keep frozen overnight. Bathroom was comunal and clean. There was great entertainment available on site, i did not make use of it as I was tired and soar from my ride and went to bed early. Had a good nights sleep. For the price I was happy with my stay. Thank You
• Saff (8/5): Nice clean place, close to city, good value - Check in was nice and easy and staff were helpful. The room was clean and we were provided with everything we could have needed towels/toiletries/tea/coffee. It was close by to the city (though be prepared for very steep hills if walking) and there was parking onsite. Some of the patrons of the pub were loud until around 1am, but given it was the weekend we can’t really complain. Overall a good stay and well worth it for the price.
• Steven (8/5): - Little unfortunate that the back door was below our room window, so heard the patrons until the late hours. But other than that, nice wee room, warm and comfortable.
• C (6/5): Urgent Need of Updating - The room did the job we needed it to. Somewhere centralish to get us into the city. Although on a busy road, over a pub, there was little noise. The beds were OK, the bed linen fresh and clean. Clean towels were provided, as was individual soap and bath gel. The TV worked. There were coat hangers in the wardrobe. You had your own key to get in after the pub was closed. Free parking for about 6 cars is at the side of the pub. The recommended breakfast cafe is closed at the weekend! There is a garage across the road selling limited breakfast supplies. Everything was very dated and is in urgent need of updating. The carpet had slid towards one side of the room and looked like it needed a particularly good clean! Cups were not cleaned for the second day, Milk and coffee were not replenished - but at least this was provided. All drawers needed cleaning out, the skirting boards needed wiping. The heating worked intermittently. I'm not sure the shared bathroom was cleaned either, as the toilet paper had run out by the first evening, and none was provided until late the second evening.
• Phil (8/5): Basic, budget rooms above a pub, but not bad. - These are rooms above a pub, so don't set your expectations too high, but it's also budget friendly. First room I was put in was a good size, although a bit tatty and in need of renovation. The en-suite was tiny, with a shower and a toilet, and then a washbasin outside in the room itself. En-suite light switch was broken, so light didn't work, and light above the basin had no bulb. I was moved to another room; smaller room, but bigger, modern bathroom, so much better. No mirror in the bedroom though, so drying my hair was a challenge. (They don't provide a hairdryer, so bring your own.) Being above a pub, there was loud music from downstairs, and people kept going through self-closing connecting doors which shook the whole building each time they slammed shut. However, come closing time (11:30 pm on Friday, midnight on Saturday), all noise immediately stopped (they didn't even wait for the song to finish!), and it became very quiet, so I was able to get a good night's sleep.
• Julie (2/5): Worst place I've ever stayed - The pictures on the site do not even remotely resemble the room we were given. I booked this place because of the photos on your app. We had to share a bathroom which was filthy and full of black hairs. I had booked an en suite. When the sink was used there was a horrendous loud noise in our room. Bed was totally uncomfortable and the pillows virtually none existent. The only clean thing were the towels. No working light on the landing. Thank god for mobile phone torches. If I'd been able to find another room I'd have moved, regardless of cost. We didn't let it ruin our time there as my son was graduating but we definitely will NOT be back!

Great sized room with a huge walk in shower. No food available due to our check in time which was ok, great information leaflet in room means we got a takeaway delivered and chilled out in our room. Some noise from pub but not more then you'd expect. Definitely stay here again

• Curtis (10/5): Bargain price and cozy setup near lush Durham - I loved it here. Great and hospitable service, especially from Léa, who welcomed me to the bar. Nice little pub and a good location. The room was cozy and comfortable, although I couldn't close the bathroom window, so it was chilly in the morning. Excellent price for solo travellers though.

We upgraded to the superior room which had a lovely ensuite but the bed is uncomfortable, which they obviously know as you sleep on a duvet to minimise the feel of the spings.

Room spacious, comfortable and clean.Room wasn’t very warm despite the radiator being turned up. Shared bathroom is in need of some TLC. Free car park. 15 mins walk to city centre. Would definitely stay again.
• Ana (2/5): - AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Paid extra for a better and quieter room. I checked in and was given my room keys. When I opened the room door, to my dismay, the room was not ready or even clean (old bedding in the bed and old bags of food and empty bottles on the floor). As I had just travelled for 6 hours, I settled for a small room to store my bags before popping out. At the time this second room was offered to me I was told that this alternative room I was being offered was “exactly the same as the other one” I paid £160 for 2 nights. To add insult to injury, when I came back 3 hours later, I realised that the room I had actually paid for was cleaned and rented out to someone else. There was absolutely no offer from the staff to either give me money back or to move me in to the room I had paid for, after it had been cleaned. They simply rented it out to someone else. The first night I could not sleep as there were doors banging and very high noise levels. This was made worse due to the location of the alternative room I was staying in. During the last evening of my stay the curtain rail just fell of the ceiling, leaving the room window completely uncovered. I ended up leaving at 2 am and travelling home early with no sleep for almost 48 hours as I could not take it anymore.
• Emil (8/5): Very good for its price. - Spacious room, easy access, helpful staff. Obviously no frills and basic accommodation, but well worth it for the price. Excellent soundproofing from the bar (less so from the corridor).

• Philip (4/5): - Very basic accommodation in a generally poor condition and with a questionable level of cleanliness.

• Rachel (8/5): - Great location - easy walking distance into city centre. Room size, decor, ensuite great. Good value for money. Bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. No heating on when we got up in the morning - around 9am ---- only an issue because it was a very cold day. But ---We would definitely stay again 😊
• Catherine (4/5): Poor, unclean and expensive ! - Not great! Dirty room with very dated bathroom -four sheets of toilet roll left and bathroom stank of bleach. Noisy and dirty - definitely not worth the £85 we paid!

• Linda (10/5): The Queens Head, highly recommended. - The room was lovely and clean, the bed was very comfortable and I slept all night. The en suite was clean and the towels where nice and fluffy. The staff were very friendly and helpful. For lunch the food was beautiful, I had a burger with garlic mushrooms on, wow, which came with proper chips and salad. I didn't need to eat again all day. We will be going back there again. Oh and it's only a 10 minute walk into the City.
• Sandra (2/5): Terrible hotel. - Filthy, bathroom light wasn’t working apparently it was going to be replaced in 3 or 4 days, the place needs a major upgrade, would definitely not stay there again.
• Deborah (8/5): - Clean and tidy room at a good price. Durham city centre is walkable, though it is a long way back up the hill! We were not disturbed from the pub at all.
