Guest Reviews
- Paul (8/5): Go for the pie and be aware of busy times - Made very welcome upon our arrival, shown our room and told where things were and how things worked. The staff all were very friendly despite being very busy. The reason for coming here is to try 1 of the 52 pie varieties available, 1 for each week of the year as proudly stated. The pie is a slab vs individual round pie and tasty. Do stop eating 2 days before to fit it in - huge portions! Breakfast in the morning was brilliant. Right, a few things. Room 3 was £180 for the room and felt that was quite steep. Large garden facing (looking initially over the outside tables) room was large, spotlessly clean with firm mattresses. Fortunately I had a booking.com credit so had it for 50% and would have unlikely to have booked otherwise. Dinner was very busy and took 55 minutes from ordering to plates on the table. Other tables had wrong orders and a 48th wedding anniversary was ruined by poor service and incorrect food being served. Busy with insufficient staff presumably.
- John (9/5): -
- Christoper (10/5): - Clean tidy comfortable great food great staff parking is great
- Stafford (8/5): - The room was lovely 😍 👌 Food service took too long 1hour for food is not good and this ran into breakfast tea and coffee took ages to arrive and when it did it came with no milk
Then I heard staff say we had ran out of orange juice and clean cutlery how can this happen we stayed for 2 nights and cancelled one evening meal because the service was poor.
- Katie (7/5): Good stay - Location is lovely, very peaceful other than the odd train going over the tracks but that didn't bother me. They only thing I didn't like was the bed was not very comfortable.
- Debbie (7/5): This is a great pub with fantastic food - very large portions! A good base for Bempton Cliffs & Flamborough Head; it - It offers a non ambulatory wheelchair accessible room which was great. The bed was a double, a king size would be much better for a good night’s sleep. The best access from room to the bar is via the outside, the internal route is via a relatively short but very steep wooden ramp. The double bed. So many UK holiday properties (pubs, hotels, B&Bs, holidays homes) use double beds when, for 2 people, a king size makes a huge difference for a good night’s sleep. I filter on this a take a double bed option as a freedom of no choice option.
- Natalie (10/5): -
- Matkin (10/5): - Beautiful room with patio door overlooking the garden.

- Peter (7/5): - The food ie the pies Cold breakfast, uncomfortable bed

- linda (10/5): - Clean and comfortable
Staff brilliant
Food excellent Nothing
- Keith (8/5): Happy second visit. - Atmosphere, friendliness, location. Don"t know why we got a wheelchair access room - not requested or needed. Standard shower / ensuite would have been fine.
Air con instructions would be useful !
Wines were expensive / over priced
- David john (10/5): Perfick place to celebrate my wifes birthday 21 ,,,,,,,if only 77 - Everthing as near to perfection ,
All staff including kitchen staff went above there call to duty ,
If i were to be very picky seating for having a drink only ( dog friendly )
Great choice of draft beers available . Thats coming from a yorkshire man ( leeds and 78 years young )
Will be back later in the year Nowt
- Denise (9/5): Very comfortable stay in a lovely facility, and as a bonus - a very pleasant village, with a distill - Room and fittings, including bathroom, were first class Nothing
- Ann (7/5): -
- Christopher (10/5): - Clean comfortable peaceful really caring staff great food and plenty of it
- Wood (8/5): very comfortable.Went to Filey wonderful to the sea. - The staff were very helpful.Breakfast excellent.
- Dave (7/5): Nice place good good however, we should have had some reduction in the bill for the room. - The Food was great and so we're the Staff. We were unable to Check in until 5 pm due to refurbishment. Someone did inform us about the refurbishment however, I thought that it would relate to you not being able to use the bar area facilities. We turned up at 15.30 hours and travelled through poor weather and driving conditions and were told we had to return to check in at 5,pm. We drove around the general area until 5 pm and then we're able to get in. The room was expensive as it had a garden view. When we checked in you couldn't see the garden it was pitch black outside.
- Russ (10/5): PIE HEAVEN - Great place, great menu. The pies are to die for. Nothing.
- Christoper (10/5): - Clean tidy comfy great staff lovely food
- Tracy (8/5): Lovely stay - The room was large and spacious and the staff were very friendly Only thing we didn't rate highly was the cooked breakfast it wasn't the best
- Diane (8/5): Great hotel and will probably visit again, staff lovely and friendly - breakfast was excellent Evening meal was disappointing. Although table booked restaurant was oversubscribed and we were overlooked. we asked for water which was forgotten. Husband had gammon which was ok, however the pie I chose was not. It was overcooked and tasteless so I didn’t eat it. I was offered an alternative but chose not to and I wasn’t charged. Mostly disappointing as it was my birthday and we had ‘saved ourselves all day’ for the evening meal.
- Gary (9/5): LAST MINUTE STAY - Staff really helpful and friendly. Sofa bed was a little lumpy.
- Annie (10/5): Brilliant stay in the famous pie pub! - The rooms are beautiful, very clean and nicely decorated. The staff are wonderful and so very helpful, pies are huge and very tasty everything was perfect. there was a great atmosphere in this busy local pub, people travel miles to dine there and I can see why. Breakfast was plentiful and well cooked, great choices of cereals, yoghurts and fresh fruits, and wow, for the cooked breakfast, so many fantastic choices it was really impressive. We will be back to stay with you again soon. Nothing not to like everything was perfect!
- Fran (10/5): Excellent around, have already booked again. -
- Simon (10/5): - The room was very spacious, very clean
We overlooked the beer garden, that was nice, no noise.
The main meal was lovely, we pre ordered our main meal whilst checking in.
I would recommend this
The staff were very helpful and courteous The breakfast was nice, just a little rushed as it was busy
- Dakeyne (9/5): -
- Terry (8/5): - Room was very clean and well equiped the service was very good location was perfect for us.We went for a funeral and the Piebald Inn did the catering.
- Elaine (8/5): We made the mistake of going on a bank holiday and a weekend - We went for just one night and the food they do is very good
- Paul (10/5): - All staff very friendly and helpful. We stayed one night the room was very clean and comfortable. The food was delicious. We will stay again.
- Adrian (10/5): 10/10 - Everything Nothing
- Lucy (10/5): Brilliant will definitely stay again - We need assistance because of mobility issues and staff were exceptionally kind and accommodating We would have preferred breakfast in our room
- Sarah (10/5): - Perfect location to get into Filey. Hotel was lovely and clean. Staff very friendly. Food was outstanding. Nothing.
- Joanne (10/5): Will definitely be back as there are lots of piesivwant to try - Clean and fresh and we really liked the little touches such as a chocolate and eye mask
- Angela (10/5): Exceptional -
- Karen (8/5): A good sized room with a comfy bed very convenient for Filey. - Very good breakfast, friendly staff, very clean and quiet. Hard pillow.
- Flynn (8/5): Very good -
- Anna (10/5): We would not hesitate to stay again if we were in the area - Exceptionally friendly staff made sure all our requirements were met , excellent breakfast, large car park, very comfortable outside dining
- Chris (10/5): Great hotel in great location in beautiful North Yorkshire - It's in a great location just about 8 miles from the fabulous beach at Filey Bay. Also nearby are Bridlington and Scarborough with the fabulous seaside town of Whitby, with it's connections to Captain Cook and Dracula, only about 30 miles away. The food is tremendous. They specialise in pies and have 52 tremendous pies on the menu. There was nothing not to like
- Susan (10/5): Wonderful!! - A lovely place to stay close to Filey Scarborough Bridlington and Whitby but out in the countryside…nice and quiet!
Very welcoming staff .
The rooms are finished to a high standard…very comfortable with air conditioning..nice touches in the rooms .
Excellent food. Hard to choose from the 52 pies on offer!!
Super breakfast.
Lovely gardens and patio . Can’t fault
- Carol (9/5): Superb - Amazing staff, food exceptional , very clean in a great location for Filey Bay distillery Slightly overpriced
- Sally (6/5): Very average - Interesting, convenient, great menu Room was not serviced. Breakfast mediocre - only plain yoghurt available and poached eggs were watery.
- Beverley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Margaret (8/5): Very convenient for us - Beautiful large room with patio door onto private patio.
Spotlessly clean.
Very helpful receptionist I hadn't realised that most of the .menu was a choice of 52 different pies or other fairly substantial mains but it was a hot evening I would have liked a salad choice too
- Paul (8/5): Very good -
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Steve (10/5): Exceptional -
- Geoff (8/5): Very good -
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (9/5): Superb -
- Carmel (5/5): Passable -
- Paul (9/5): Nice stay nice chap behind the bar who booked us in but found room a bit to close public area - Room was small but tastefully decorated all what you needed ! Outside table right Outside your window in the garden area too close for privacy
- Kathryn (8/5): Very good -
- Geoff (10/5): Very good overall standard of accommodation, food and beer. - Breakfast was very good. I would suggest that full fat yoghurt could be made available. The bed was ab excellent size but a bit on the hard side.
- Emma (6/5): Nice place but room for improvement. - Clean room and bathroom. Nice little extras such as eye mask, ear plugs, chocolates, water etc. The air-conditioning was not good. Lowest was 17 degrees which is not cool. This is warm and didn't cool us down. Double bed was tiny!! Not enough room for 2 adults at all. Definitely a slim line double. Had a meal here and staff could do to be quicker with bringing drinks. Beer was flat and in the wrong glass (probably what made it flat). My husband had to go complain and so did the table next to us. If you pay £5 odd for a pint, it needs to be lively. Some other guests need to brush up on their hygiene. Sat next to a woman at breakfast who kept sniffing CONSTANTLY and failed to blow her nose. Very off putting when trying to eat our full English.
- Steve (9/5): Great night, good food, well run establishment. - Friendly and good service N/a
- Dot (9/5): Pie to die for - Lovely and clean, staff very welcoming. Breakfast wasn't as nice as expected. We'd had fabulous food the night before so were disappointed with the cooked breakfast the following morning.
- Charlotte (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vicki (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vicki (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christine (9/5): an excellent place to stay with a warm welcome, fabulous pies and lovely service - The warm welcome. My room was very comfortable, modern and spotless. Tea and coffee facilities in the room. Hairdryer, iron and ironing board also supplied. The french windows opened to a private terrace which overlooked a lovely garden. In the room is a copy of the drinks and pie menu which gives you chance to study the choices as there is so much to choose. As the pie is very generous, you are offered the choice to have half reserved to take home
I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again The very lumpy hard bed mattress. And very solid pillows!!
- Theresa (9/5): Superb - My room was amazing.
Staff were amazing.
Facilities were amazing. Dinner was finished when I got there. Maybe if it can be extended a bit.
- Joanne (8/5): Friendly pub, very clean. Pie heaven - Very Friendly staff, very clean, fabulous pies. All sleep related. The room was cold (it was January) and heater unit was very noisy for a light sleeper like me.
There is a green light in the room (on a smoke alarm or similar) which was very bright. Eye masks and ear plugs are provided but for me they just make sleeping more difficult.
The bed was a bit hard for our liking too.
- Dawn (10/5): Exceptional - Everything! From walking through the door . We were pleasently greeted on arrival. Room was spotless. Bed very comfy. Pies were amazing even brought 2 home and a poochy pie. To finish our stay we had a full English breakfast. Was the best I have ever had. So yes definitely 10/10. Nothing to be honest.
- Eloize (10/5): Pies! - Amazing. Saw this on four in a bed and was desperate to visit. Lovely rooms, very quiet. Good facilities. Restaurant INCREDIBLE and worth the journey for the 52 pies.
- Sophie (9/5): Fantastic family night away - A warm, welcoming inn with great quality food and beer. Clean, modern room and friendly staff. We felt at home straight away. The breakfast was excellent. Would highly recommend.
- Lindsay (10/5): Exceptional -
- Irene (10/5): Very friendly staff, excellent food, super - Great breakfasts Nothing we didn’t like, 👍🏼
- Colin (7/5): OK. - Excellent pie experience! But one night is enough!!
Very pleasant staff at breakfast made a good start to the day. Room and bed rather small. Noise from restaurant area.
- Lucille (10/5): A fantastic place for a break away from home - Everything was way above my expectations. They thought of everything you could want... Eyeshades, water (sparkling and still), big fluffy towels, umbrella. Breakfast has a great selection and the best part...
The pies in the restaurant are amazing! Dog friendly with a pooch pie too 😍 Having to leave!
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Barbara (7/5): Good -
- Amanda (10/5): Fantastic . Well worth the money . Brilliant staff. - Couldn’t fault anything, clean , food superb , staff friendly from the moment we walked in till we left . In fact they couldn’t do enough to help and always with a smile . Nice touches in rooms eye masks , chocolates. The umbrella in the draw to borrow a nice touch . Would
Definitely recommend it to family and friends.

- Peter (9/5): Great one night stay. Great staff, great food and very comfortable. - Staff very good. Turned a double bed into two singles as I booked the wrong type of room by mistake. It was a tad expensive.
- Robert (7/5): Good - good breakfast catered for gluten free could here noise from bar in room .customers in bar could see into room when door was open not very good for privacy .bed small and lumpy. room 2
- Rachel (6/5): Pleasant - Room was nice. Sink and shower slightly broken,
- Lesley (8/5): Very good -
- Waddington (10/5): lovely short stay - lovely one night stay, very clean and modern, the lady at breakfast was lovely could not get a table to sit at when arrived in the pub
- Ian (9/5): Superb -
- Stephen (9/5): Superb -
- Roy (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly, helpful and welcoming staff, relaxing atmosphere, excellent food, amazing selection of pies🥧 .excellent facilities, great location. Very clean and well maintained. Lack of USB availability unless you had a plug.
- Maureen (9/5): Very comfortable and lovely pies! - Comfortable friendly, modern Away from centre of village, green light in bedroom
- Paul (10/5): Excellent - Everything. Fantastic room. Spotlessly clean. Lots of nice little extra - sleep mask and ear plugs, blankets for sitting out on the terrace and lovely robes.
The pies were excellent and very filling as was the breakfast offering.
All the staff were professional, friendly and very helpful.
Couldn't fault any part of our stay Nothing. I really couldn't criticise anything
- Jayne (10/5): Exceptional - Clean, comfortable, amazing staff
- James (9/5): Comfortable and convenient. - Location was very convenient when arriving by car. Within comfortable driving distance of Bempton Cliffs and Flamborough Head. Breakfast was excellent with great choice. Gluten free catered for.
- Jill (6/5): Ok stay but not as good as expected. - Evening meal was good. Staff friendly and accommodating. Room very small for £160.
Breakfast : bacon overcooked. Sausage not nice. Our breakfast came and was different from our order. It was amended but getting bits of your meal when you have nearly eaten the majority is not ideal.
- Gina (9/5): Excellent One Night Stay In The Piebald Inn - Lovely staff who couldn’t do enough for you. Very friendly and a lovely atmosphere. Lovely bedroom and ensuite bathroom which were spotlessly clean and very well appointed. Chocolate on your pillow! Bottled water, coffee, tea and biscuits. We ate in the restaurant at night and it was excellent food and lovely staff. Lovely breakfast, good choice and extras of fresh fruit, yoghurt and cereals. Very big car park. Would definitely return again. Nothing, we really enjoyed it.
- Killner (9/5): Superb - We had a evening meal in the restaurant it was very good also the breakfast I had the salmon scrambled eggs my husband had the full English The light in the ceiling it was very bright
- Jo (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bryan (9/5): Great pub great food and drink with excellent rooms - Pies
Good beer A bit remote
- Sorsby (10/5): Excellent. The facilities exceeded our expectations and we will definitely go there again. - All meals were excellent. Good, fresh ingredients and extensive menu (includes 50 varieties of pie!), well cooked and tasty. They specialise in very large portions of pies, with some veggy alternatives. Served fairly quickly by pleasant & helpful staff. Loads of choice at breakfast time, again well cooked and really hot and tasty. Can't fault them at all.
Rooms were exceptionally clean and attractive. Appreciated the wetroom facilities and space in the bedroom to charge my powerchair battery. 2 steps between bedrooms and Bar, but there was an alternative route (via outdoors) and staff said a ramp was available if I preferred the indoor route but I didn't use the ramp.
The Bar was attractive, clean and had loads of 'jokey' things to look at or read. Great choice of beers and other drinks.
All staff were polite, friendly, really professional and very helpful.
For future customers... just note that there isn't a fridge or a phone in the bedroom, although there is a kettle, mugs and loads of tea bags & coffee etc. There is also free wi-fi. Nothing really. Perhaps a second armchair in the bedroom? Perhaps another towel rail or some hooks in the wetroom as the heated towel rail was too small for 2 jumbo towels and two bath towels and a hand towel that they provided. Perhaps adjusting the tension on the bedroom door-closer as it was really stiff and hard for a wheelchair-user to push/pull it open.
- Joy (9/5): Superb -
