The Hill is in a fantastic location, there’s a bus stop right at the doorstep with direct access to Windermere and Staveley, making it very convenient to get around.
The Wi-Fi was reliable, and the breakfast was excellent. But what truly made the experience unforgettable were the breathtaking views and the beautifully kept garden, it felt like a peaceful retreat.

- Dr.priya (10/5): The most comfortable and tranquil B & B stay - The Hill is, without a doubt, the best B&B I have ever stayed at in the UK. Every detail, from the decor in the common areas to the rooms (special mention to the softest bed and pillows), bathroom, and amenities, was meticulously thought out—full credit to Jo and Jerry, the kindest and warmest hosts. I cherished my time sitting by the window seat in the Iris Room, enjoying the serene view of the meadow with horses—perfect for unwinding with a book.
The garden at the front is a tranquil spot, ideal for relaxing and taking in the fresh air. The location is also fantastic, with a bus stop just outside and Windermere Station within walking distance for those who want to soak in the surrounding beauty. Jo’s homemade hot breakfasts quickly became a highlight of my mornings, and I already miss them!
I will definitely be returning, as both The Hill and the Lake District are perfect for a nature retreat. Nothing.

- Kayls (10/5): Fabulous :) - The property and gardens are beautiful.
The transport links are fabulous allowing us to leave the car and travel by bus to various places. Short drive into Windermere which was perfect for evening meals.
The room we had was cosy, clean and the amenities were great. The turn into the property was quite tight and we easily missed it on our first night but once we got used to this, this was okay :). Parking sometimes was tricky with very tight space to park.

- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rodney (10/5): Homely B&B which certainly comes highly rated by me.Go on,treat yourselves. - Choice of breakfast vast. All freshly cooked by Jo-Anne,who was a charming host. The location was perfect for getting around the lakes.10 mins from Windermere and again for Ambleside. The A591 is conveniently on your doorstep,so great getting A to B.There is a great pub,the Watermill just a 5 min walk which serves great food and on site brewed beer.Perfect! I’m struggling to find what could have been better.
- Steven (4/5): Good old house but failed massively for good hygiene. - The property was nice. It has an automatic key fob. Rooms have smart TV so you can watch Netflix and Youtube. But I wouldn’t recommend it to younger travelers and hygiene freaks. Trust me it’s not really for young travelers, only for the older ones - which probably the ones who rated this as 4 star (it isn’t) The Garden looks beautiful but the the smell of cat feces is very strong you can’t stay for long. Upon arrival, the bathroom mirrors were so dusty it looked like it wasn’t clean. If you walk barefoot in your room you would get cat fur sticking on your foot. The TV controls were so dirty and dusty which was so disappointing I had to clean it. The room has not been fully cleaned beforehand. It says here 4 star rating but i guess people who rated are the old ones or couldn’t be bother with smell and hygiene. Again this B&B is not for young ones and hygiene freaks.
- Audrey (10/5): Beautifll - Wonderful well cooked and hot.nothing too much troublefor them. N A
- Wim (10/5): Fantastic stay - Everything was superb. Jo-Ann and Gerry were so kind and helpful. We feeled just like at home. We had a nice and interesting talk with Gerry and Jo-Ann prepared delecious English breakfasts. This was the best B&B we ever had. If we come back to the beautiful Lake District, we certainly will choose this B&B.
Thank you very much for your hospitality.
- Moira (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely guest house clean and comfortable great breakfast and lovely hosts No complaints
- Callum (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paulina (10/5): Lovely and authentic B&B - Great hosts of this lovely B&B in South Lakes. Everything was thought about down to the smallest details and you can tell the owners are genuine and love interacting with people. You can order breakfast in your room or come down to the dining room, or even order a takeaway breakfast! It was delicious and we were spoilt for choice. The location is perfect for hiking and visiting towns around the Lakes. Nothing to complain about - maybe a little hard to find the entrance gate at first but having said that, we arrived in the middle of the night.
