Guest Reviews
- Chrystine (10/5): - Friendly owners
- Brent (6/5): - Very outdated and old, no restaurant. The room was clean and the staff pleasant. Very old and outdated
- SHAWN (2/5): - No hot water very noisy. No locks on windows. Lobby smells terribly.
- Francine (8/5): - Noisy because of proximity to the highway; limited supplies ie no Kleenex, only one faceclloth; tv not working; friendly staff, comfortable bed
- SueAnne (2/5): - No restaurant as advertised, no hot water tv not working. Very dirty atmosphere. No wifi working
Beds where clean and comfortable
Very disappointed for rate charged. Will not use Expedia again as in the past never had a problem.
- Brenda (4/5): - This is a cheap motel, there is no fireplace as advertised not that it made a difference. The weirdest thing is the security- chain had been removed and just a lock on the door handle. The back door goes to the hallway between 2 rows of rooms but can only be locked/unlocked from the hallway which means I could enter any room at any time without the renters knowing. I definitely would not stay here as a single woman.
- Nancy (2/5): - I couldn’t breathe in the room. No safety locks no lights on entrance
- matthew (8/5): - Could be more updated.
- Jackie (6/5): - Too close to main road.
- Katty (6/5): - Had to clean our own garbage and had to go to main desk to request new towels. Never came to clean the room in the 5 days we were there. Also had to ask for toilet paper. Room Was clean when we arrived. Bed was super loud due to cheap metal bedframe.
- Jason (6/5): - Fridge is noisy.
- Donald (2/5): - Was not expecting much, was worse then i expected. Its gross.
- Mark (6/5): - Proximity to our event
Stained towels need to be replaced and they didn’t replenish the second day of our stay.
- Michael (6/5): - Just a few updates would go along way
- ERIC (6/5): - Bed was too hard and noisy. Nice motel but needs a new bed
- Carmencita (10/5): - The room is good and place is okay. The staff was very helpful as we came late and he was there to open the room for us and the price is good.
- Sarah (2/5): - Jacuzzi was filthy had black dirt coming out of the jets, and the air conditioner was set as low as 73 and no lower.
- Leanna (6/5): - The room is quite plain but clean and comfortable. The staff member at the motel was very helpful and stayed late in order to accommodate our late arrival. The.biggest problem was finding restaurants in the area. It’s necessary to drive to Blind River, Massey or Espanola t find a restaurant.
- Ryan (2/5): - This is the creepiest hotel room ive ever been in...theres a door into a hallway in the back of the room, with the keyed side of the handle IN the room with no chain lock...no way to lock this door from the inside of the room...the front door chain lock is just held in with drywall screws..theres not one car in the parking lot out front, the restaurant is closed, every room looks empty but when the clerk was slow coming to unlock the front door (locked at 7pm..?) "Sorry, very busy"...the jacuzzi and tiles around it are disgusting, cant tell if gray or brown tile..first i called to request a room, he took my number saying he had to check and call me back, never called back i ended up booking on expedia but.. the place is empty im not sure what he went to check.
- Craig (8/5): - Great staff and convenient location.
- bibianneb2020 (4/5): A little sketchy, in the middle of nowhere - I needed a place to stay just for a night that accepted my dog. There's really not much choice around here. I called in a reservation a few weeks in advance, to make sure they were OK with the dog, but when I arrived, the person who seems to live there did not have me on their list. Thankfully there was a room available. The room smelled of stale cigarettes even though there are no carpets, the bathroom fan only worked intermittently and the shower had hot water but not full flow.
Even though there is a "restaurant" sign attached to the building, there has been no restaurant operating for years. (So plan accordingly if you're into breakfasts!). The part that bothered me the most was security - there is just a turnbutton on the doorknob, nothing else. And there's a back door that I think leads to a hall but can't be opened from the room. Lots of highway noise but it does go down a lot at night.
- Peter (2/5): - I got bitten by a bed bugs here. The floor was sandy and dirty. There was a long black hair in the sink that is not mine. The sheets had sand and/or bed bug droppings in them and there was a cigarette burn on my sheets. I texted the after hours number and there was no reply. Keep driving and try somewhere else. The cheapest motel for a reason in the region.
- S (6/5): - Clean. No restaurant or breakfast place near by. Microwave was not working properly. Needs to be renovated.
- Yves (6/5): - Check in was fine . He took a picture of my drivers license which in retrospect was odd.
I wouldn't let that happen again.
- Chinthaka Sampath Ranasinghe (10/5): - Excellent
- Rhonda (4/5): Continued an extra hour down the Highway - There is absolutely no reason the desk clerk should be taking pictures of guests ID’s. Checked in but didn’t stay. Room faced the highway and traffic was not quiet. Was unable to secure door at back side of room as it was locked from other side (no idea who/what door accessed). Overall, did not feel very secure with the check in.
- Trina (2/5): - emergency door was locked...moth balls in the bathroom sink which are so stronh and can make one very sick.i would never stay again...nasty.
- Francis (10/5): - All good
- Trevor (8/5): - Good affordable large room, clean, convenient parking. TV and fridge work well.
Noisy being right beside the Trans Canada highway, but that's not the hotel's fault.
Mattress was lumpy and not very comfortable.
- Andrew (10/5): - I showed up got my room and the hot tub had no cold water going through it I mentioned it to the front desk host he got me a new room and rectified it immediately it was a little cold because it was a room not ready for me but he rectified that immediately by giving me a heater and anything I needed throughout my stay which was pretty well a week long he was more than gracious to help me with anything I needed his name is Kuldeep such a nice polite and helpful young man just keep in mind Spanish is a one horse town and I think horse died a while ago everything closes by 9:00 and as I say everything is the corner store and the restaurant down the road but if you do want a killer Burger check out the restaurant down the road it's called North Channel pizza and grill try their burger a company it with some cheddar cheese balls you will not be disappointed but all in all Spanish River Inn will accommodate you for what it is and as I said Kuldeep is the name of the young man that runs it and he will go above and beyond to make sure your stay is accommodating for that I give it a full five stars for what it is
- Breah (2/5): - Room was not clean especially the bathroom. Other occupants that were staying there made us not feel safe. Staff was not overly helpful when addressing these concerns.
- Michelle (6/5): - If you don’t mind the 70’s decor and just need a place to rest your head, this place is fine. Bathroom in need of updates due to the spalling and mildew laden caulking and yellowed 70s tiles. Parking lot not plowed. Only myself and another room occupied and I was placed right next door despite there being many other rooms apparently vacant.
- ????? Navjot (10/5): - Its a really resonable place. Manager is a nice guy, he opened door for us even at 11pm as we were travelling from far away. Highly recommended especially for people travelling long distance. Prices are affordable plus refundable one night before. Thanks for bug free experience which I was really worried about after reading bad reviews at first. Will return soon.
- Henny (8/5): - Lovely owners, very accommodating, comfortable room, all great!
- Zachary (6/5): - Little hole in the wall spot - good for a night when passing through northern Ontario. Would not book a trip around the location. There isn’t much to eat and very few amenities.
Just a bed to sleep in on route to bigger and better things
- Dan (4/5): - Heat didn’t work. No chain locks on doors tv remote didn’t work. Plugs need replacing.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - This motel was the worst one in our entire trip across Canada. We arrived and were hit with a musty chemical door reminiscent of an old basement. The carpet was stained and awful, the bathroom was not something I would clean myself in, the air conditioner was not something I would want to breath the air from. The smoke detector was encased with brown discolouration of some sort and had a dead wasp completely stuck to it, the chain lock latch was broken off the door frame as if the door was broken through. There was a door that you could not lock on the opposite side of the room that led to an unknown area. The door to outside didn’t have a proper lock at all, no deadbolt, no chain, just the lock on a doorknob much like that of a home bathroom. My husband and I couldn’t imagine sleeping in the room and felt immediately dirty when there. We took our baby and pet and left 30 minutes after arriving to our next town destination because there was no chance we were going to stay.
I would not recommend anyone stay here.
- Aaron Van (2/5): - I booked because reviews said although rundown, at least it was clean and the owners are trying. That is simply not true. Its deplorable. Disgusting and a complete slum. Dirty beyond belief. Literal spider webs across the door we had to break to get in. Toe nail clippings on the filthy, stained and cigarette burnt carpet. Black mold in the bathroom. Just absolutly awful. Not to mention the pitpull next doot looking in our window and the mini dirt bikes that the workers seem to use to get around. It truly is the worst, most derelict motel we ha e ever stayed in. Never ever again.
- Candace (6/5): - I was looking for a quick and convenient spot to spend the night while traveling. It had a clean bed, super easy parking and the staff was really nice. The bed while firmer than I would like, was possibly the most comfy I had on my trip.
My understanding from other reviews is that this place is under new management and they are working on it.
My room had some spiders living on the door. When the door first opened a few of them went into the room and settled in around the door. While I appreciate that spiders are a natural form of pest control, I didn't quite appreciate having them as roommates for the evening. The larger web on the outside door I had to duck under a bit to get in/out of the room. There was a huge spider on it, I've got a bit of a fear of spiders so there was no way I was going to be touching it. I was okay-ish with the spiders so as long as they kept to their side of the room. Some of them did, some I couldn't account for their location in the morning.
There were some stains on the floor and the room smelled of WD30 which I assume was from some repairs that had been done. There was a second locked door leading to what I am assuming is a hall for staff. Having no key or deadbolt to block that door, I did end up moving a chair to block the door for added security. There wasn't a deadbolt on the main door which had been removed. Putting back deadbolts would add to the feeling of safety, especially for solo guests.
- Karen (2/5): - We did not stay at this property because the building was shut down for repairs. Notice to Comply notice on window re: structural repairs and also mold removal. Owner not onsite and refused to give refund.
- Dharmesh (4/5): - Old property and need lot of refurbishing. Main door, air conditioner, exhaust in bathroom needs to be improved.
- Lisa (4/5): - They asked for a cash deposit because someone had stolen their towels the night before.
- Carol (2/5): - We didn’t feel safe to stay here. One window was papered up. There were no vehicles around later in the day (6:30 pm or so) when we arrived & we supposedly got the last room. We were unable to get our money back. We did get a small points credit with Expedia.
- Krishna (2/5): - Felt unsafe. The beds looked used. Walls were stained. We couldn't stay the night.
- Stuart (4/5): - The room had 1 ceiling light and 1 in the bathroom. There were no other lights. There were no chairs or a bedside table or desk.
Spanish has no dine in restaurants only pizza takeout and a snack bar. There were none within a reasonable drive of the hotel. The hotels restaurant is closed. Most stores and businesses were closed. The hotel is right on the Trans Canada highway with lots of noisy truck traffic.
- Chyvaun (8/5): - It is under New Management and they are just starting off and are a work in progress. The owner was very kind and hospitable. It was quiet and we had a good night's sleep. Our reservations we're not available and the host upgraded our stay which was very accommodating.
- W2142JDlisag (6/5): Our stay at Spanish River Inn - The room was clean and spacious. The staff were very friendly. The motel is old, but renovations are being done. Bed is very comfortable. The room has a fridge and microwave. The shower was great. We were at the back so it was very quiet. Air conditioner works great. A coffee maker would be a great addition as there is nothing around Spanish River 😔
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Nice motel if you’re looking for a stop on the circle tour. However nothing is near it for restaurants.
- Chantale (8/5): - Staff was very nice. In needs of updates that are slowly being done. Staff was informative was great location for us.
Will be back.
- Aakash Prakash (8/5): - Excellent motel, quite clean and comfortable for a group of 4.
Only suggestion would be to have some hangers in the bathroom as there was nothing to hang inside the bathroom.
- Justin (6/5): - convenient
- Adrian (6/5): - No deadbolt lock on door. No chair to sit on. Noisy.
- asher (10/5): - Very quick and easy check-in, a little bit of nose traffic but other than that was quiet. Everything was clean, mini fridge had a freezer part which was perfect!
- Alois (8/5): - NEW OWNERS are doing renovations. Great people very nice and accommodating. About 100$ a night stay and PET FRIENDLY. Trail at back up hill for dogs to walk.
- Beth (6/5): - It was a typical motel for the area. The rooms on the front side of the motel hear a lot of truck road traffic but the back side are quiet. The host was very nice and there was a very good pizza place within walking distance.
- justinmQ6692BY (8/5): 4/5, Would recommend if you need somewhere to stay - New Staff and Management, putting effort into this motel again!, Chantal and Ross are great friendly people, very kind and polite, nice to see Chantal trying to bring this place back to life, clean and comfortable rooms , little dated but updating it 1 room at a time, good hot water, comfy bed, good wifi and cable TV, Chantal and Ross are onto any problems 24/7 if needed
- Dave (6/5): - suited needs for hwy hotel, would stay there again if price is reasonable
- Steven (10/5): Spanish stay was comfortable - We enjoyed our stay the motel needs some upgrades which i think is great idea considering its on the hwy. This motel has huge potential.
- Steven (4/5): - Not much
- zbigniew (8/5): - no coffee maker and microwave not connected to power
- leo (8/5): - When we are looking for a hotel we look at price and cleanliness. This hotel fit both of these.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - It was a place to lay our heads. Beds were old, soft and very uncomfortable. Bathroom floor was dirty with dust and dirt piled in the corner behind the door.
- Simone (2/5): - It was very different from the pictures, the room was old and dirty. There were mattresses left at the reception. The place made us feel unsafe, there was just an old key to lock the room's door. Do not stay there! Definitely a place to avoid!
- Rob (6/5): - The room was clean and as we were situated at the back of the Inn it was quiet. Staff were friendly. This Inn is undergoing some much needed upgrades but the price was right and we were satisfied with our stay.
- Stephanie (2/5): - Photos online extremely deceiving as this motel is no place you'd want to stay. The restaurant is long closed with carboard in all the windows, there are poor persons going through cigarette butt cans in front of the room doorways and the place looks like it hasnt been maintained or cleaned in decades. Some online reviews warn of bedbugs and itching after staying there. It was so awful looking I didnt even stay there although I had a reservation I'd made online after being rudely deceived by very old photos
- Shaminder (2/5): - The property was fine, everything we expected it to be - a convenient stop for my partner and our dog to stop on our long trip, right on the highway.
What we didn’t expect was to be treated the way we were by staff. I called the number provided by the listing at 1pm and at 5pm the day before to let them know that we’d be arriving late (around midnight). They didn’t pick up at 1pm, but I spoke to someone at 5pm. We were told it wouldn't be a problem and we were instructed to call upon arrival and were met with hostility by the staff on site who didn’t want to check us in despite having just spoken with someone on the phone at midnight. He was argumentative and checked us in.
The person on site came by to apologize about his behaviour last night but didn’t fail to tell me how they don’t check in after 11pm and actually no one was site when I called so the message didn’t reach him. There’s only one number provided and the sign outside has it listed with “open 24/7” below. I’ve travelled all across the world and I’ve never had an issue like this.
- Kelly (2/5): - The office door was locked upon arrival with a note with number to call that went right to voicemail. Another guest came by and knocked on a room window to get the attendants attention. When he opened the door there was no greeting, just had me fill out a form and handed me one key. The room was beyond filthy, toilet looked like it had never been cleaned, used soap and hair in the tub, dirt on the floors and a blood stain on one of the beds sheet. Contemplated sleeping in my car and actually did leave around 6am. So much more wrong. Expedia should be embarrassed to list this property. The least the owners could do is clean the room. I expected old but not this disgusting. Just needed a place to sleep on route of a long drive.
- jillvandw (2/5): AWFUL-AWFUL - This place should be taken out of Trip Advisor. We had a reservation and when we got to the place I thought my husband was pulling a "gotcha". It was awful on the outside and we decided it didn't look safe. If the outside was any example of how it was taken care of I can't imagne how awful it would be on the inside. WHAT IS TRIP ADVSOR THINKING?
- Agnes (4/5): - It’s too close to the road and noisy when trucks passed by
- Kenneth (6/5): - The place is rundown and needs a good cleaning.
- Stephanie (2/5): - Left the property without staying felt that unsafe. Someone was burning things in the parking lot, mattresses were torn. I don’t like to leave negative reviews but this place is not a family friendly hotel.
- James (4/5): - We liked we could have a pet. We liked they’re in range of making it home. We didn’t like our room, it had a very strong urine smell. We liked they had an ac. No tub plug so I used a face cloth for a plug, for a bath,,,water pressure excellent.
- sujatha (4/5): - No facilities to make Tea or coffee.
No kettle
Curtain smells bad
- Tammy (2/5): - I will never stay here again. Filthy and outdated. The outside noise of highway makes it feel as though every vehicle is going to drive through the windows.
- Furkan (2/5): - I was itching all night.
- Elizabeth (2/5): - I did not check in. The property was terrible. I will pics under separate cover. Very disappointed that your company does not vet these properties to ensure they are still even viable
- Nirlep (2/5): - No security for the client and vehicles.
- Z687SAdans (2/5): BEWARE PEOPLE - Dont go there. trip advisor should remove this motel from their site. really. nobody can help you and no food and run down badly my friends.
my wife was there two weeks ago and complete crap business going on.
- Taranjot (4/5): - Lack of cleanliness
- karen (2/5): - Very run down.
- Robert (6/5): - The restaurant advertised has not existed for quite some time. Very near the main highway so quite noisy. The room does not look like the picture. Next door was two noisy dogs.
- Daniel (2/5): - It should be condemned. The restaurant isn't even open. The driveways is so bad that long weeds are growing through the pavement. And the worst part is we show up at 4pm to check-in and there's no one there to check us in. We waited an hour still no one. We tried to get reimbursed and the owner refused. We ended up never staying the night instead we drive home. Worst motel if my life. Do no go there!
- J15NJkathys (2/5): After years of travelling this is the worst motel we have ever seen. - Cant rate this place ....too low. Booked thru Expedia People in town said thats been closed for a while none of their pictures were new maybe 20 years ago.
some guy living there in a room. Manager laughed at my husband when we asked for a refund and Expedia wont help.
Dont stay there ever and think twice about expedia............Aug.3/22
BEWARE!!!!!!!!!
- Thomas (4/5): - Place looked like it had been abandoned for years and felt unsafe. No services whatsoever.
- David (2/5): -
- Mark (6/5): - The motel provided a night accomadation.
- danamS7414KD (8/5): Pleasant stay - Service was friendly. Arrived late. Clean sheets and towels. That’s all was needed. Bed was a little sqeeky, but was ok to sleep on. Other than that it was an ok night. Possible chairs outside the rooms?
- LIFENG (2/5): - Bed bugs! Keep away!!
- AMFMooseCreek_On (2/5): Never Again - When we arrived, the office door was locked. There was no one here for check in - had to call motel phone number. The manager, I think, although very nice, wasn’t in town but told me our room door was unlocked. The key was on the dresser. Had no wifi since needed password and I didn’t feel like calling him again. Property looks like an abandoned property - rundown, grass not cut yet this year. Pictures on website are misleading - restaurant not in operation for some time, no picnic tables or chairs or anything like on website. Room and bathroom clean, beds appeared clean but carpet not vacuumed in a long time (little black plastic bands everywhere) and mini fridge not working or if it was, we could not tell. 2 porcelain coffee cup but no coffee pot then realized there was no usual little plastic glasses anywhere in the room. We had a non-smoking room but it smelled like someone had smoked something in there. We booked thru Expedia and now we know why - this place is dying. When I booked, it said one room left - Ha! Lesson learned - never book thru Expedia again. Since no restaurant on property, bought dinner at very expensive food truck next door - Nibblers Fish and Chips. Food was very good but prices reminded me when we buy food at a football game stadium - 2 cheeseburgers and a small fry $31.05. Ridiculous.
- Sandra (4/5): - There was air conditioning and a fantastic Fish ‘n’ Chips shop next door. The hotel restaurant has been shut for some time. The room smelled strongly of stale smoke.
- Kim (6/5): No Honeymoon Suite - Dated facility , past its prime but for a quick one night stop did the trick . Would I spend my honeymoon there , absolutely not but did the trick . If you are at all fussy keep driving , check in was good .
- Darren (2/5): - There wasn't anything to like about the property.
- Sacha (2/5): Avoid if you can, use as last resort only. - The place is about 10 years past a renovation. I was charged nearly 50$ for my dog, when they say pets are allowed, but don't list a cleaning fee. I would of had no issue if the place was actually clean. There was food stuck to things in the room. This place is a sham and should not be permitted to stay open. The photos on the hotels site are way too old and need to be updated.
- Anna (6/5): - It is ok place for a night. Disliked that the pet fee is not included in general booking and is the highest that I saw at $45 per pet per night.
- Aqua_Uomo (2/5): 1-star is too many - Please read this if you ever consider going.
I arrived late evening on June 17, tired after riding over 700 km and dropped. In the morning I stepped in the shower and the horror started. There was log hair on the tub, on the shower wall, in the sink, there was drier urine and pubic hair under the toile seat, on the toiled rim. Disgusting. I went and brought the guy at the reception, he said sorry, I don't know what maid did. I tell what she did, NOTHING! I was afraid to touch anything after that. Thar room was not cleaned. The guys appearance was not a flint better than the room. He was "representing" the place perfectly.
Nothing was right. I asked for a non-smoking but the room stenched of tobacco or weed. Large burns of the carped and furniture, the bed was just made in a rush with stained cover sheets...lots of pictures attached
No wonder I was the only person in the motel. There was another car when I woke up, that's it.
Do yourself a favor and do not stay there. It is overpriced anyway for a road side motel and filthy! I had no choice as there was no other places in the area. Plan accordingly.
- Robert (2/5): - Terrible property. Wouldn’t let anyone stay there.
- James (2/5): - I don't normally give bad reviews for places but this was not as advertised.
The entire property is very poorly kept.
The beds are mounted on makeshift wood platforms. there was no coffee or tea or even the ability to make any in the rooms. The restaurant is closed.
There was no WIFI in the room and when I spoke with the manager he said "I could just stand outside close to the office and I might get it"
The entire motel is not as advertised and displayed on their web site.
We were very disappointed.
- Raymond (6/5): - Room is ok and clean for a stay, but restraunt is closed, WiFi doesn't reach the room, limited hot water. Fine for a nights sleep, but not much else.
- Karen (4/5): - Covid has hit the Spanish area hard. There are no places to eat and the Inn is in terrible shape. The photos are a misrepresentation. Terribly disappointed.
- Romilbhai (2/5): - It’s ok , nothing much to say
