Guest Reviews
- Nigel (10/5): Had a wonderful time - Everything was great
- DS64 (10/5): Wonderful place to stay - Wonderful place to stay. Old world charm, peaceful, beautifully clean, and tidy. Fireplace was great on the cold nights and gave a wonderful atmosphere. Continental breakfast was good, plenty of condiments. Bed was very comfortable. Definitely be back. Recommend highly. Only two negatives....Wifi is not very good and not able to turn TV up for some reason. Luckily, we had a Bluetooth speaker which we hooked up.
- Udo (9/5): - We really enjoyed our stay to the ‘museum’. It’s a wonderful experience, not just for railway enthusiasts. We had no complaints.
- Anita (9/5): A lovely stay in a really special property. - It was a lovely property with old style furniture to match the place. It was awesome to go to the museum next door and look around the train station. It also had a great hot shower. We appreciated having some breakfast left for us. I would recommend staying at this special property. Great for train and history enthusiasts! I really liked the property, but if it was me I would get rid of the old black chair as you walk in as it doesn't give a great first impression as it is in such poor condition. However, that was the only thing we weren't keen on. Overall, it was a really great property and would stay there again!
- Jennifer (10/5): - Everything 😄
- Kylie (9/5): - A quiet location outside of the town centre. The accommodation was comfortable with all the amenities you would require for a pleasant stay. The bed was harder than I would have liked but still managed to sleep well.
- Rachel (8/5): - Had a lovely stay.
- Graeme (9/5): Unique and special place. Highly recommend - Unique. Beautifully renovations
Lovely pot belly heater. Electric blankets would be nice
- John (7/5): Good thank you other than the above mentioned problems - Breakfast was good and the bed , bathroom, kitchen and washing machine and dryer was very handy. TV remote was very bad and I couldn't turn of the subtitles or connect a usb with movies I had with me. The internet was non existant and we were not able to connect at all. Otherwise very good
- Eddie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Akselsen (8/5): Burra stay - Historic, quiet relaxing. We had people looking in windows trying too see the museum when it was closed, maybe some more signs to separate private from public. The construction of the roof was a bummer because the platform was all closed off, we felt like we only got half the experience.
- Christopher (7/5): ‘Different’ - Unique accommodation for an old train buff. We were ‘surprised’ that we weren’t told about the restoration work being undertaken at the time of our stay. Being early starters, it didn’t impact our comfort.
- Sally (10/5): Excellent unique stay - Great character and olde world charm
Comfortable bed,shower and good kitchen
- Trudy (8/5): Relaxing comfortable stay - We love heritage properties, this one was done up well The slate in front of the fireplace in the kitchen is a trip hazard
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional - The details, the port, the breakfast items, fresh milk and bread.
Thanks to everyone involved, this is my fourth stay and I'm sure I'll be back again Everything was faultless
- Harrison (8/5): Very good -
- Norman (9/5): Comfortable and quiet. Not far at all from the town. - It was quiet and secluded. Nice old station. Great to help keep the funds going back to the running of the station. Need some lighting above the kitchen bench. Some kitchen utensils and kitchen items. Internet needs an extra modem run to that part of the house. Frustrating. Poor internet had to navigate the thick walls of the station and it struggled. Could do with a security light out the rear where the door to accommodation is. Very dark being so secluded.
- Sue (9/5): Superb -
- Sharon (10/5): Lovely stay in a historic building. - Clear instructions given in a timely matter regarding key pickup
Kitchen well equipped with thoughtful extras such as milk, bread and juice. Nothing
- Andrea (9/5): A unique, cosy and comfotable stay. -
- Frank (9/5): Character accomodation in railway setting. Great access to superb hiking and interesting history. - Character accommodation with quality interior mixing style, history and comfort. Supplied breakfast was a nice touch with quality juice/milk. Nice to have firewood provided as we lit a fire on both days which was really great! I enquired about bedding and towels (not responded) and guessed from the photos that this was provided (which it was). I did not realise that there was a visitor centre in the same building (not sure if that was mentioned). It took us some time to find the place (maybe our fault).
- Linda (9/5): Superb -
- Neil (9/5): Superb -
- Martin (10/5): Very peaceful and furnished beautiful and has lovely linen - The property is unique and a fantastic renovation has been completed. The kitchen is extremely well equipped and the provisions were just perfect especially the decanter of port.
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional - Comfort space and history
- Eileen (8/5): Comfortable and quirky - Comfortable cottage, half of the old railway station. Very cold when we arrived so reverse cycle aircons in living room and bedroom were welcome, plus a fire all ready to be lit. Kitchenette facilities ok, great bathroom. Farther from town than expected, Burra is very spread out. Supermarket white bread was a let down, but the orange juice was very good. Biggest issue mentioned frequently in the guest book was no ABC or SBS on tv. Wifi worked in kitchen and bedroom but not living room.
- Sandra (8/5): A most enjoyable stay. - Everything provided was lovely. We didn’t use the white bread (we had our own sourdough) so I put it in the freezer. The fireplace was easy to use and most enjoyable. The firewood and the wood box supplies made it very easy to make subsequent fires.
The coffee machine was appreciated as was the nice crockery and cups. The bed was very comfy and the linen lovely.
All in all we really enjoyed our time at the B&B.
Thanks
Sandy B
- Sherrill (9/5): Superb - Grea Location liked that the old railway tracks are still there ..liked that the "old" character of the place inside was generally kept.. very pleasing place Not a complaint but Need to have coffee grounds for coffee machine...
Great machine but needs grounds not packages
- Roland (10/5): Bloody lovely - Great heritage, comfortable, accommodation, interesting location Trouble with Wi-Fi connection. Trouble with TV connection. All of this followed storm damage, so we understand a problem.
- Bruce (8/5): A unique but wonderful experience staying in the old railway station. - Beautifully renovated accommodation in the old railway station. Facilities were very good with a full kitchen, lovely bathroom and comfy bed. Cereal, bread and spreads were provided for a simple breakfast. The property is air conditioned and also has a wood burning fireplace. Located a short drive from the main town, it is an easy walk to the Bon Accord Hotel for a drink and dinner. There were many birds around and it was fantastic to sit outside in the early morning and late afternoon watching them. The stars at night were amazing. A unique experience. Nothing
- Glenda (10/5): What a Gem! - We stayed two nights in a beatifully restored apartment that had been converted from a number of rooms within the Railway Station Building. Separate Kitchen, Lounge and bderoom with ensuite bathroom. Comfortably furnished with period touches including history of the old Railway Station. Soaked up the atmosphere of days now gone when the railway passed this way. Fridge well stocked with fresh milk, butter, orange juice, breakfast cereals and fresh bread.
Lots of little touches including a snifter of port for a cold winter's evening beside the wood fire. Didn't need it in March but the two A/C units kept us cool. We passed this way probably ten years ago before the Station restoration had commenced and was blown away by the care and attention to detail that the Friends of the Burra Railway Station have lavished on her since. Will definitely stay here again... loved it!
- Lynne (10/5): A short respite in abeautiful building and setting - Beautifully renovated old station with part converted as a bed and breakfast- serve yourself style. Loads of bread, jams etc ,cereals and milk left for us to eat when we wished. Very quiet inside the b and b. comfortable furniture and bed and excellent bathroom. QUirky. Sitting on the platform all alone watching the sun go down was great . Leaving !
Did not realise the rest of the station would be open to the public between 11 and 1 during the day - luckily it was shut until we left but we had a number of people walking around looking at the station and into the windows as it is on the heritage trail or coming past us when we were sitting outside.
Heavy net curtains which have been hung for privacy added to the inside gloom which might be better with one way film on the window instead.
Wifi was tricky to access and very poor in the living room. The web page kept blanking out the area to enter password and tick accept box so we had to fish in the dark !!
Nothing you can do about it but the constant droning noise from nearby meant we did not venture to sit out side much. Farm machinery or quarry working ?
- Leonie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional - Burra Railway Station is a fun place to stay. it's comfortable and just a little bit special.
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional -
- Linden (10/5): What a great place to stay. -
- Robin (10/5): Exceeded all expectations - Great layout and furnishings, authentic for the period. Plenty of relevant reading material about Burra early life, the mines and the railway and station. Everything was spotlessly clean and two fluffy bath robes just topped off the experience. Could not fault anything really. If I had to be really picky I would suggest a couple of auto draft seals on the bottom of the doors. The existing door snakes work well when you are inside and can place them at the bottom of the doors, but when you go out dust and leaves can blow into the rooms. It was very windy for a time and this may have been a rare occurence.
- Gary (8/5): Very good -
- Martin (10/5): Wonderful. - The information on the history & restoration work done by the volunteers. Great combustion heater & plenty of wood. Well furnished in keeping with period of the station
- Fay (9/5): We had a wonderful time -
- Nigel (1/5): Complete disaster. I want my money back as I couldn't stay there - The location was historic The whole property smelt musty and unaired. We couldn't stay there and moved on to another location. I immediately informed the owner who said he would get back to me once he had consulted the historical society who run the station. I have heard nothing since
- Geoffrey (7/5): Character property - Pretty standard breakfast, nothing special information on getting entry code Above
- Phillip (9/5): Really nice place, very well refurbished old building, would definately stay there again. - Quiet and dark at night, provided breakfast was nice Not really a dislike but the lock box code was not sent to us so we had to ring on arrival and it was text to us. Internet connection was not good as we needed to access emails. Was a bit disconcerting we we arrived back there on Saturday night and the was a meeting for something happening the other side of the lounge door. Some note of warning would have been handy. Could do with more than one additional roll of toilet paper.
- Owen (10/5): Exceptional - The accommodation was in a quiet part of town.
- Christina (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional - Wow. 2 nights in a Train Station. Amazing.
The whole atmosphere, the history, the scenery.
- Ken (7/5): Good -
- Mig2 (9/5): We enjoyed the chance to stay at an historical site - the renovations of the property were really well done, with a beautifully appointed bathroom The breakfast provided was not something we would eat, though the kitchen was great.
- Gregory (10/5): Exceptional -
- Diane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (9/5): Superb -
- Peter (8/5): Very good -
- Wright (10/5): A great start to our holiday in SA - Well maintained and beautifully restored old building. Very pleased to see vegan no animal cruelty bathroom products. Ample breakfast supplies but we brought our own more interesting bread. White sliced supplied. A wonderful 2 night stay. Perhaps some recycling options for plastics, glass and paper etc. I am not familiar with what the recycling policies are for the area so there may not be a collection service.
- Elizabeth (10/5): Exceptional -
- Georgia (10/5): A lovely base from which to explore historic Burra. - Beautifully restored. We enjoyed the combustion heater in the cold weather.
- Rachael (9/5): Absolutely Fabulous, thankyou - Great location, comfortable. Sink sponges were wet from previous use, went down the street and purchased own so problem solved. Perhaps a wardrobe to hang clothes.
- Christine (9/5): Superb -
- Nola (10/5): A wonderful experience to sleep in the vintage railway station. - The materials supplied for breakfast were OK. Everything was excellent, although we moved the dining table into the lounge room as that was where the fire was burning and it was very cosy.
- Ken (9/5): Superb - Incredible restoration and historic building.
Better to do in warmer months.
A train lovers must do. It is a cold building that the heaters struggle to warm. AC units are ineffective and the hot box door leaks air, burning timber at the highest rate.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The Railway station B&B was an enjoyable relaxing place to stay.
It had everything we needed to come and go as we pleased.
Lovely and clean. Would happily recommend to anyone wanted to visit Burra.
- Vicki (8/5): - It is a railway heritage property & would be loved by those who like railway history.
- Darryl (10/5): - Charming and very comfortable.A lot of thought given to customer comfort.
