Guest Reviews
- CATHERINE (10/5): Thoroughly enjoyable short stay in a superb location with top class food - Superb food Bed a bit soft
- Alina (10/5): -
- Claire (10/5): Outstandingly perfect! - This place was exceptional, lovely location, gorgeous room, spotlessly clean ,lovely staff ,outstanding food !
We spent a night here had three course dinner, breakfast and returned to have afternoon tea in the pod by the river for our 2 friends birthdays. There was a little bit of anxiety on the staff part about us having enough room in the pod but it was fine we had lots of space and could easily of fitted 6 for afternoon tea.it was just what I wanted a more private quiet space to enjoyš¤©The meal was outstanding on every level! one of the best meals Iāve ever had and although the hotel is a high end place itās not snobby and actually very down to earth and ,chilled and has such a relaxing atmosphere. The staff in the restaurant were amazing! Nothing was too much trouble and they were super friendly.I/We will be back soon ā¦canāt wait! ā¦keep up the good work your all amazing! Nothing!*****:)))
- John (9/5): Another lovely visit. This is one of our favourites. - Lovely property in a perfect position in a charming town Slightly small ( but very comfortable ) rooms for the price
- alessandra (9/5): -
- Elaine (10/5): Spectacular- highly recommend and more!!! - Beautiful period property. Lovely location. Staff were very attentive. It was like stepping back in time.
The views and grounds were spectacular. I wouldnāt hesitate to recommend. Worth every penny! Nothing.
- Andrew (9/5): -
- Fox (8/5): We enjoyed our stay once we had a proper sized room - Our first room and bathroom were extremely small ( room 23 ) and do we were moved to room 22. Let us know the height of the ceilings and low beams
- Lin (10/5): -
- Roger (10/5): - Our whole experience was just lovely. It is certainly a wonderful place to visit, very quirky in the best possible way. We loved our experience so much, nothing could have been done better. It is something outstanding and out of the ordinary.
Ann and Roger
- John (10/5): - Beautiful location & gardens. Very comfortable bed!
- Guest (9/5): -
- Michelle (10/5): Lovely grounds with secured carpark.Staff very helpful and we had a fantastic evening meal. - Excellent None
- Tracey (9/5): - Everything Nothing
- Jacqueline (10/5): Fantastic Find in Dorset! - This historic building dates back to the 16th century but has been well maintained and mixes traditional furnishings with modern touches. It is beautiful and comfortable. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious and the staff was incredible. We booked the most basic room but were upgraded on arrival to the superior room. In November, the hotel was very quiet and not busy at all as it's the off season. The location is also right next to the river and the town. On the hotel's website, you can only book for a 2 night minimum, but Booking.com allows you to book 1 night, which was perfect for our quick weekend getaway. Super small thing but because it's an old building, the doors are low, so you have to be careful if you're tall. Also, there wasn't any temperature control in the room that we could find (but that wasn't an issue during our stay).
- Graham (10/5): Quality and relaxation - Quality in every respect. A feeling of relaxation and history. The staff were excellent and the location great for visiting The Jurassic Coast Nothing
- Rose (10/5): Delightful - Beautiful location, and the house unspoilt by its conversion Slightly slow service at dinner due to full restaurant but staff were very nice about it and it was worth the wait
- Catherine (6/5): The hotel is set up for the elderly customer and has no atmosphere. The staff were all great but it feels like an over st - The property was beautiful and well designed. I did not notice that our room contained a Queen bed, so smaller than a double, when I booked it. The room was very small as well although well furnished. I donāt believe the price point is right for this type of room. It spoilt the break as neither of us had a good nightās sleep for two nights.
- Phil (9/5): -
- Alison (10/5): Beautiful hotel and grounds - Beautiful hotel scenery. Fantastic food lovely staff Having to leave
- Romain (10/5): - Everything.
The amazing room, the peaceful and nice place, the awesome garden, the lovely staff, the meals (the cheese board!!). Everything was perfect.
We stayed 2 nights and it has been our favorite place in our 2 week long honeymoon in England. We should have stayed longer.
- robert (9/5): Very enjoyable - Great staff and wonderful buildings interiors and gardens and restaurant
- TINA (8/5): - The hotel and setting are simply stunning. A mixture of old-world charm with superb modern additions such as the restaurant.
Our room which we had previously stayed in, had been given a recent makeover with new soft furnishings and bathroom.
Our room like the hotel and grounds were immaculate. So a definite 5 stars to the team behind the scenes.
Again our meals, particularly breakfast were spot on. All freshly prepared. We are now on our third visit here as we've truly had memorable visits before. However, even though many aspects of this beautiful hotel are spot on, there were a few let downs this time.
Our room make over was great, but a big no for us was the now opaque glass door for the ensuite. Practical maybe but private no, and the light emitted from the mirror was not great for a light sleeper. Plus, if using at night, the ensuite lights light the whole room. Just not for us.
Drinks in the bar early one evening were also a bit of a letdown. The bar tender though lovely, had little knowledge on mixing drinks. Ours served no different to the local pub in the wrong glasses and mixers totally poured in. No finesse. Sounds picky, and the drinks would be perfectly fine in the pub, but when you're a five star hotel with five star prices it's these things that make the difference.
But the big no was the discretionary service addition on our bill at check out. We've stayed in hotels of a similar calibre but have never come across this before.
It just felt cheeky and when paying the current rates for your stay, surely that's already included. Yes, it's discretionary but it was an embarrassing conversation. So for us, not five star anymore.
- J (10/5): Nice convenient place to stay especially as it was Pirate Wareham Wednesday - Room was small but comfortable. Could have done with a larger set of drawers. Breakfast was excellent Lack of drawers to put jumpers etc away...lived out of suitcase...but it was only for 1 night !!
- Christopher (10/5): -
- Valerie (10/5): -
- Wade (10/5): -
- Nigel (10/5): The staff went out of their way to make our stay special and nothing was too much trouble. - Full of character and lovely gardens to explore in super position on the river. The restaurant was a highlight with exceptional food and decor. Nothing
- Sarah Anne (3/5): Disappointing - I checked in at 5 pm and advised I had to leave at 7 am the next morning . The hotel could not even provide a coffee before 7.30 ( did offer a small of Rice Krispies or weetabix No usb docket in the room - before going to my room I stopped at reception to check whether there would be and no one came ( waited 5 mins after timing the bell ).
- John (10/5): Fantastic location, superb staff, cannot be faulted. - The staff were superb and most helpful, particularly for someone like me with limited mobility.
I should have made contact before my one night stay, to determine my room size and bed size, preferring twin beds. Entirely my fault that my room was small and so was the bed for my needs. Having spoken about this to staff on leaving, I now know that when I return, which I truly intend to do, exactly what I should be booking. See comment above.
- Bradley (10/5): Will be going back - Location, atmosphere, staff, breakfast, grounds Rooms are small but they are very quirky and perfectly comfortable
- Zheng (10/5): Exceptional - Every staff is very nice and helpful. Everything is wonderful. Beautiful garden and delicious breakfast. If the twin bed can be bigger, it will be perfect.
- Mandeep (9/5): We had a relaxing stay at this lovely hotel. The food, staff and location were all great. - Food and location was amazing
- Rachel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Terry (10/5): Exceptional - Location
- Anna (8/5): Very good -
- Stone (9/5): The hotel was really quirky and we enjoyed our stay. - The hotel was charming - very 'olde worlde'. Our room was small but had everything we needed, We especially liked the window seat that overlooked a very cute garden. We didn't eat at the hotel. In the words of the famous Del Trotter ' breakfast is for wimps' and the restaurant had a set menu which was too limited for me ( I am a very fussy eater and am also diary/gluten intolerant). There wasn't anything we didn't like apart from the fact that the shower floor was very slippy. We had to lay a towel down to give some traction before using it.
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Brian (10/5): I think the foregoing is enough. - Both were excellent. I enjoyed my stay. I didn't expect absolute perfection.
- Joseph (10/5): Exceptional - Peace and quiet! Timeless tranquility
- Anthony (10/5): A short, but memorable stay in an excellent hotel in delightful surroundings. - A thoroughly enjoyable stay at a location not visited for many years. The hotel is in a delightful setting and the accommodation, attentive and friendly staff and first class dining made this a short, but memorable stay. Nothing to dislike.
- Katy (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nicholas (8/5): A beautiful place to stay and relax with great food and wine. - History of the Priory and Beautiful setting. Our room was far too small. The bathroom was miniscule with absolutely no area to put toiletries.
The carpark was always full. Finding a spot sometimes took a while.
- John (10/5): as above. - the gardens were as beautiful as any hotel we had stayed in, and we have travelled a lot in europe as well as the UK.
everything was well done, staff excellent, attentive without being a nuisance - not easy to achieve. food excellent.
well done, not easy to achieve these standards. Nothing.
- Chris (6/5): The hotel has the potential to be a magical celebratory destination, we were disappointed - The Heron Suite is spacious, very well appointed and comfortable. The private access to the riverside terrace was the icing on the cake. Younger members of staff very welcoming to a gay couple and our guests at dinner. Two male guests and only female Molton and Brown Products ⦠an empty tissues box. Many of the dishes in the restaurant were disappointing ( and over salted) the fish at breakfast was āoffā. Some older staff were distinctly unwelcoming and unprofessional to a gay couple and their guests at dinner.
- Jennifer (10/5): Very relaxing! - Lovely setting. Beautiful old buildings. The gardens were delightful. Everyone was very helpful.
- Enid (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful property either lovely grounds
- Jane (8/5): Very good -
- Amanda (10/5): Achieved just what we wanted. Beautiful historic building. Peaceful setting and excellent service - Location was excellent for us. Breakfast and dinner outstanding as was our customer service. What a beautiful peaceful place to relax. I can't think of anything. Our stay was fabulous
- M (10/5): Fabulous location, wonderful staff, incredible cuisine a spell binding experience I'll be repeating - Gorgeous location and the breakfast was sumptuous! Nothing!
- Pauline (9/5): Superb -
- Robert (10/5): A beautiful experience - Our room was upgraded to a suite which was excellent The evening meal was superb followed by a delicious breakfast All the staff were friendly helpful and professional when dealing with us We must mention Carlo who made our evening meal such a memorable experience š Nothing
- Victoria (10/5): Absolutely excellent! Heavenly. - I canāt fault this visit. The room was stunning with really pretty views. The bed was very comfortable with lots of pillows and cushions to choose from. It was just the right temperature. Immaculately clean and very quiet. Without a doubt one of the best places Iāve ever stayed and Iām very discerning. Oh and breakfast was divine and the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Just heavenly. It was perfect
- Kevin (9/5): It was everything we expected and wanted it to be for a special occasion, - It was everything you would expect from a really olde-world priory. Very atmospheric. But nice modern rooms, Nothing
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Amanda (10/5): Exceptional - A beautiful building and gardens. Excellent food and service in the restaurant
- Barbara (9/5): It was all I expected - except the access as explained above. However I was delighted with my stay. - I thoroughly enjoyed the stay. I liked the ambience of the Hotel, linked to past history. The staff were helpful and pleasant. My bedroom was comfortable and attractive. There is a feeling of quiet relaxed feeling in the Hotel. As an elderly, slightly disabled person I found the access to the building difficult. Although my bedroom was on the ground floor I found it a nuisance to have to move from one building to another in pouring rain. Although umbrellas were plentiful it is difficult to manage one whilst using walking aids.
- Elizabeth (10/5): A highly enjoyable and relaxing stay. - A lovely, historic hotel very close to the center of town.
The staff were very pleasant and the full English breakfast was excellent. Would have liked a lighter dinner menu.
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - Incredible service from all the staff.
- Isobel (9/5): A lovely stay, we will return - Everything was lovely - the hotel itself, the gardens and grounds, the view from our room and the staff. The food was very good and the breakfast excellent. A very pleasant and relaxing stay. We had a top floor /attic room and this meant that one of us couldnāt really stand up in the shower so, this room would not suit anyone very tall.
- Ian (10/5): Exceptional - The hotel has its own parking (significant in an old town like Wareham). The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and confortable. The restaurant is first rate at dinner and breakfast (quite as good as the central London hotel with a Michelin star where we have occasionally stayed over the years). The terrace overlooks well-kept gardens that run down to the river.
- Rebecca (8/5): Very good -
- Christine (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cobb (9/5): Superb - Situated in Wareham very good, lovely gardens, old exciting Priory. We liked everything.
- Jennifer (10/5): Wonderful!! - A beautifully updated historic house and gardens in a stunning setting. It's a real gem to find on our first stay in Wareham.
- Robert (8/5): Nice hotel, good location - Food both at breakfast and dinner was excellent. The bathroom in Room 5 is ridiculously small and not commensurate with the price paid
The charge of £80 for evening dinner is too high in my opinion - the food is very good but a bit overpriced.
- David (9/5): Brilliant - Everything Nothing
- Linh (8/5): It is nice relax hotel - The garden Stairs
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional - Full of character.
- Richard (8/5): We would love to stay at The Priory again but not in Room No: 1 - The setting, the gardens and the overall ambiance of the hotel. The decor was beautiful with a variety of lounges and seating areas. We enjoyed a lovely evening meal from the set menu in a well appointed, airy dining room with lovely views of the garden and River Frome. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The bedroom was much smaller than expected as was the shower room with a tiny sink and hardly any room to turn around with the door shut. There were no toiletries available at check in which we had to request. The room was stifling and only just about helped by a portable fan that was available in the room. In fairness, the weather was very warm but the ventilation and cooling lacked efficiency. It was noisy early in the morning when kitchen staff were preparing breakfast.
The wine was expensive but delicious!
- Paul (10/5): A hidden gem - Exceptional hotel, a true hidden gem.
The location, the staff and led by their manager make this a wonderful place for your stay.
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leslie (7/5): Very good food - Location beautiful gardens going down to a river Very hot in room although it was a muggy day also very small
- Gerry (10/5): It was a treat for our 50th wedding anniversary and they made us feel very special. - Fantastic location and building. All the staff were very friendly and professional. Nothing
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (10/5): Superb. What a fantastic place. - This is a stunning hotel. It has a fantastic location and in the sunny weather that applied during our stay it's hard to think of a better place to stay with a great view of the river and the superb gardens. The bathroom had an over-bath shower, rather than a walk-in one.
- Malcolm (8/5): Very relaxing, and the hotel gardens kept beautifully - Breakfast excellent and served at table so very relaxing A range of simpler evening meals
- Robert (8/5): Lovely as a treat for our 70th birthdays. - Breakfast was excellent, especially enjoyed being waited on rather than buffet. Position of hotel and the gardens were a real delight although not well signposted as so from the hotel. Food was good. Our room was on the small side and the bathroom was poor, really too small to be properly used, it was little more than a cupboard. The shower was incomprehensible with no instructions for use. No way of washing hair without getting in the shower.
- Simon (9/5): A lovely peaceful stay in a quiet location in a historic property right next to the church. - Wonderful location right next to the church. Lovely old building. A real sense of history. It was all good
- Sue (10/5): It was a lovely birthday treat and such a wonderful hotel and beautiful grounds - Amazing setting Nothing
- Sally (8/5): Oodles of character, beautiful rich decor, magnificent gardens. - Lovely hotel. Quirky, full of character - uneven flagstones, leaded windows, rich furnishings. But the rooms are furnished with mod cons (fridge, coffee maker) and the beds are so comfortable! The Priory is worth visiting for the garden alone - it is magnificent. Four and a half acres and every metre beautifully landscaped and maintained. Teeny bathroom, no bath (just shower) and no mixer tap! But everything was spotless and functioned and that's the price you pay for the experience of staying in a historic, renovated building. There are more spacious rooms (and probably, bathrooms). We booked late so options were limited.
- Helen (9/5): Would happily stay again. - Beautiful location & hotel. Friendly staff and good food. A little over priced for any extras e.g. £5 for 2 packets of small sized crisps and £10 for two coffees. However, that was out weighed by the overall experience.
- Cannytraveller (9/5): Unique very old hotel in a wonderful setting - Wonderful old hotel in a wonderful seeting and lovely gardens including croquet lawn and boat mooring on the river. Good breakfast and enjoyable dinner. Flexible with our requirements as we had already eaten a large lunch. EV charging overnight at a reasonable cost. Lack of heating control but mainly down to being a very old building. Could be a problem during very hot weather.
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ian (10/5): Very nice hotel -
- Julian (9/5): A little gem, I have already recommended it to friends. - We booked late and there were limited rooms available. We settled for their smallest room which was small but incredibly well designed so it didn't seem small and it had lovely views. The rest of the hotel was delightful especially the garden by the river where we sat in the sunshine with a glass of wine. The food in the restaurant was of a high quality and really
good value.
- Joseph (10/5): Always feels like coming home - The nostalgic memories History
- Andrew (9/5): Beautiful relaxing stay in a fantastic setting. - Such a beautiful picturesque hotel and setting, quintessentially English. Peaceful setting with gorgeous seating areas inside and out to enjoy.
Loved how clean the hotel was and well maintained. Especially loved the quality of the linen and towels.
Great breakfast served by professional but friendly staff. Nothing to dislike.
- Ray (8/5): Very good - Ridiculous follow-up questionnaires
- Susan (7/5): Good - Breakfast was excellent. Better access to the fridge in the room.
- John (9/5): Relaxing friendly stay in a historical setting. - A unique historical priory on the river with a lovely garden adapted into a very welcoming hotel with excellent staff.. Parking available on site. A modern free standing shower.
- Jane (10/5): Top class country house hotel the best in Dorset - Wonderful cuisine
Superb wine list
Excellent service
Amazing setting and atmosphere Nothing
- Sukhwinder (9/5): Relaxing and healing. - Beautiful, clean, well kept. Amazing bathroom shower. The gardens were just amazing, an escape. Nothing
- Paul (8/5): Good but not great - Very comfortable Noise from extractor fan in roof. Room was overheated, and not clear how we could reduce thisā¦no controls.
- Anne (8/5): Fab location and lovely historic stay - Lovely location
Heron room was beautiful
Breakfast was delicious
Service was good - staff polite, helpful and attentive without being intrusive
Restaurant had a fab setting overlooking river and gardens Signage to hotel needs to be better
Initially quite hard to find
Parking area limited esp when people just having a meal and not a resident
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Edwin (9/5): Memorable birthday in beautiful surroundingsā¦thank you - Fantastic location and the staff outstanding and gave a warm welcome making us feel welcome. Food was superb in a beautiful dining room again staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Hope to visit again soon Personally would have liked a larger room
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Colin (10/5): Lovely, characterful hotel set in superb grounds in a very attractive and convenient location. - Beautiful, small country hotel occupying an ancient Priory, set in superb gardens by the River Frome, yet within easy walking distance of the attractive town of Wareham. The gardens alone are worth travelling to visit. The hotel itself is full of character and is beautifully furnished throughout. It also has modern amenities, in particular in the form of a very nice restaurant overlooking the gardens and river. The room we occupied was very comfortable and had a modern ensuite shower room with an excellent walk-in shower. The hotel staff were, without exception, friendly and efficient. The evening meal was delicious and of very high quality, though we would have preferred somewhat greater flexibility (only set-price menu available).
