Guest Reviews
- Sue (6/5): - Lovely stay but rooms need updating . Light and kettle not working .
- Sonal (10/5): - The property was great lovely views great staff. Would plan to stay longer next time
- Bridey (8/5): - Lovely room but not easy to find arriving after dark and an absolute faff having to check in at one building to then drive to another building to find room and then have to do again in the morning
- Patricia (6/5): It’s ok. - It was very difficult to find the lodge. For some reason it’s not labelled as Melbourne Lodge. If they’d have told me it is the old stables then I’d have probably found it easier. It’s also concerning how fast people were driving around in their golf carts. One guy was going so fast that he actually skidded on the driveway when he tried to turn the corner. I was walking my dog at the time so it’s very disconcerting. The bed was very comfortable. It was hard in the room though because they left the curtains open and all the heat from the sun came into the room. Fortunately, they did provide a fan. The hand tail had an undesirable hair on it, so that was a bit gross. The whole place is basically a golf course so I get the impression that their golf course is more important to them than the lodgings. The grounds are beautiful, but it’s a bit confusing as to wear you’re allowed to take your dog and what is the golf course and what is an actual footpath.
- Eve (8/5): - Reading some of the reviews ahead of our visit, we were a little concerned after we’d made our booking but we needn’t have been concerned!
The staff we met with during our stay were very helpful, welcoming and friendly. Our room, although it looked a little tired, it was very spacious, clean and comfortable - and served its purpose for exactly what we needed (just an overnight stay whilst we visited friends in the area).
Whilst some refurbishment is needed of the bedroom and bathroom, we found the cost we paid for the room reflected this, so did not feel we were overcharged for something we didn’t receive.
The bed was exceptionally comfortable and the area extremely quiet! We enjoyed our stay…just wish the weather had been better so we could walk around and enjoy the grounds!!
- Noella (10/5): - Unique and beautiful! Kind and helpful staff.
- zena (10/5): - We were welcomed by warm friendly service
The spacious ‘stately rooms were hung with original art work . A beautiful alfresco terrace for breakfast
- James (10/5): - Very nice with good environment
- Nick (10/5): - A1
- Siven (6/5): - Expected a more luxurious room. TV screen mini size. More milk for the tea could only make 2 cups. Not value for money
- Wayne (8/5): - 2 night stay, there was no restaurant facilities available after 17.30 on the first night so had to dine early.
Second night dined at the local pub.
Only 1 teabag each night!
Rooms quiet which would be expected in the middle of a golf course in winter.
Nothing to do on the complex probably due to the time of year.
- jane (6/5): - A lovely room in great location
Only issue was check in process - was told go to golf club but it was actually the restaurant so not clear
- Graham (8/5): 100% id stay again. - Absolutely lovely place to stay, the only let down was that although i booked a double bed room the bed wasn't a full size double and the quilt wasn't large enough to cover me completely, the saving grace was the additional banket on the bed. I will stay again but will ensure i communicate with them prior to my stay to ensure they accommodate my 6,4" needs. another positive was the fact i could shower without having to Squat under the shower head. which is often a problem in some of the larger chain hotels.
- MCAJ (4/5): Onder de maar - Geen warm water, lauw op zijn best.
Geen verwarming.
Gedoe met inchecken en uitchecken.
Geen plek voor koffer, geen foldable koffertafel
- Iain (6/5): Could be amazing. - Terrible way finding signage. If you arrive after 4pm you have no chance of finding your way around. Impossible to find the reception. The details sent are incorrect as the reception area has changed. The breakfast rooms lacks any atmosphere and is quite simply, depressing.
- Caroline (6/5): Needs an room overhaul! - Very limited instructions on arrival.
The deluxe room was very tired looking holes in a dirty and threadbare carpet - unable to use bath or shower as the entry is very deep and even deeper getting out.
Room very clean tho - no instructions as to wifi or times of breakfast.
Charged an extortionate £50 for a small dog - one night!
Amazing breakfast and fast service
- Odette (10/5): - Un merveilleux temps de repos et de sérénité. les repas étaient excellents. Le service discret, chaleureux, efficace. Merci beaucoup
- Katie (10/5): Beautiful setting - Beautiful grounds, beautiful room, lovely staff, great food.
- Matthew (6/5): - Night staff very helpful. room and location perfect. Let down completely by the painfully slow breakfast service
- Mark (10/5): - Great, practice comfortable overnight stay in readiness for golf the next day.
Lovely showers
- Kate (10/5): - A fantastic stay for my parents 60th wedding anniversary- the staff were so helpful and kind - highly recommend
- helen (10/5): Good place to stay esp if golfers - Large clean room , elec problem quickly resolved. Lots of breakfast choice . Helpful staff .
- James (6/5): It should be 5 stars but just isn’t (yet).. - This place is set in the most beautiful surroundings and the staff are wonderful, it was really clean and comfortable. The place has so much potential however am not sure I would go back at the moment. Our room decor really felt tired with a few things missing and certainly wouldn’t put it into the ‘luxury’ category, however the price bracket certainly is!
- Callum (6/5): - Misleading information on dining amenities. Lists with 2 restaurants open for all 3 meals. There was no indication that their main restaurant was closed and the other restaurant closed at 5 pm. I had to email to find this out. I would not have booked if I knew I could not eat or drink past 5 pm. The recommendation was a pub nearby. It is a very overly priced 1-night stay for a place with no dinner options or room service.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was a lovely place to stay.
- Greig (10/5): - Furnishing a little dated but comfortable and luxurious rooms. The grounds are superb. Golf course is excellent. Restaurant on site. Staff helpful. Convenient location.
- Sapna (10/5): - Lovely property and very beautiful. Amenities are a bit old and need to be updated. Service is very good and very pleasant and helpful staff. Plumbing and electrical seems to have issues.
- Robin (8/5): Welwyb - Noisy in next room
- kalpesh (10/5): - Amazing stay and amazing views so comfortable
- Ian (6/5): Amazing location and very comfortable but… - Amazing location, very quiet and rural close to the lake. The property whilst comfortable and clean desperately needs a refurb. Threadbare carpets and fittings are from the 80’s, there are no USB points and no air conditioning. Fortunately the weather was cool but a hot summers day would be a different story. I would stay here again but a full modern refit would make it an amazing place to stay. Finally, for those with an electric car there is a charge point close to the rooms.
- Yvonne (8/5): - Beautiful grounds. Room decor was tired with stained headboard. Lovely breakfast, although service was slow.
- Robert (10/5): Exceeded Expectations - The Melbourne Lodge delivers 1st Class Service in an Old World setting. A Golfers paradise which neither of us were but still relaxing and great service in an idyllic, off the beaten track Manor House. I thought the value was incredible for the luxurious room and botanical wonderland and would come back even though I’d have to fly across the pond to get here.
- Paul (8/5): Exceptional - Had a one night stay here on a business trip, in a lovely rural setting on a golf course, everything was good, staff, service, food, room comfort. a little expensive but very nice.
- Bethan Aur (10/5): - The bedroom was large, clean and comfortable. The lodge is a separate building from the clubhouse where tasty breakfast and evening meal were served. Thankfully, the weather was kind and the walk between both buildings pleasant. The staff were particularly friendly and welcoming.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Melbourne Lodge is situated in a wonderfully picturesque location within the larger Brocket Hall estate.
- harry (10/5): - Very quiet and clean, beautiful surroundings
- Peter (10/5): Amazing grounds and golf - Amazing grounds and buildings, some of the sign posts Werner that clear so walked around a bit trying to locate the correct reception, but overall very pleasant
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful grounds, architecture and food. Good service, room and although expensive it’s a nice treat.
An earlier reviewer gave a terrible review which is completely not warranted.
Hopefully it will not put off people from staying at the facility.
I can only imagine the reviewer was having a bad day.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful location, great room, lovely staff - will definitely return
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Amazing property in a unique context with wonder nature and facilities
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Property with unique character in a beautiful setting
- Verified traveler (8/5): Pleasant Stay - Following my booking i was sent directions to the estate, unfortunately my satnav took me to the back gate, however this wasn't a problem and the reception staff directed me through the estate.
Check in was very quick and friendly.
The lodge is a short walk back to the golf club which is where dinner and breakfast are served, there wasn't any parking at the reception area.
The food was really good, especially the breakfast!
The rooms are well equipped but are dated. Unfortunately the night i stayed was bad weather and the drainpipe outside my window was leaking which made noise in a quiet environment. However my overall stay was pleasant and i would stay again
- Jacob (2/5): DO NOT STAY HERE!! - Rooms were in a disgusting condition and were severely outdated, death by Peach was the only way to describe it. All you could smell was stale air and all you could hear were the flies that you could not get rid of. You must collect your key from the nearby Golf Course Clubhouse and walk up the hill to the lodge. Be prepared to carry your own luggage for a good 5 minute walk as there are no parking facilities outside the building and no offer by the staff to carry your luggage. The actual lodge is completely void of any staff or signage - I found my room by simply trying the locks until the key turned. For somewhere that is meant to be the converted stables of a stately home you would have expected better.
To top it all off this privilege cost a total sum of £200 a night! I can only state again "DO NOT STAY HERE". A local Travelodge would provide a better service.
- Sital (10/5): - Very nice
- Jennie (10/5): 5 stars - Melbourne Lodge was fantastic, we stayed for one night and couldn’t fault it in any way. The grounds are beautiful, the room was lovely and the service was outstanding. Will definitely come back next time we’re in Hatfield!
