Guest Reviews
- Simone (9/5): - Sehr schönes Anwesen, sehr freundliches und hilfsbereites Personal.
Niks
- Michelle (5/5): Not somewhere I’d be rushing back to I’m afraid. - The location is lovely and quiet and the outside of the building is very pretty. The staff at breakfast were also very accommodating and friendly and there was a good selection at breakfast and the hot food was hot and fresh. The bed. One of the most uncomfortable beds we’ve slept in for a while. Mattress was rock hard and the bed had a solid end to it which, when you’re over 6ft tall, is not great and added to the uncomfortable and restless sleep we both got. The place is very dated and needs a refurb and a lick of paint throughout. Carpets thin and threadbare and toilet bowl very stained.

- Miguel Angel (7/5): Hotel para pasar un par de dias - The size of the room. The clean of the room. The good work of the staff. There is no elevator, the staircase was very small and dangerous to go down
- Wendy (9/5): - Friendly, comfortable, helpful, lovely house and surroundings. No I'm All good
- Lourdes Sacasas (8/5): -
- Bryn (10/5): - The room at chiseldon house was lovely, very comfortable with a good size en suite bathroom, staff was lovely and breakfast was lovely
- Claus-Jürgen (8/5): -
- Bates (10/5): Lovely hotel - Lovely hotel, spotlessly clean set it an idealic location minutes from junction 15 M4.
Very friendly staff, lovely big room with a deep bath and shower. (Room 6) . Lovely breakfast included. The hotel is set in lovely grounds. Only one little niggle and that was the walls are only thin and we heard next door come in . We could hear muffled talking but thankfully not for long.
- Keith (8/5): Beautiful building, lovely welcome from Angela and good value for money - Angela at reception was so nice and welcoming. The breakfast was really good, exceptional sausages and bacon and everything else you needed.
Wonderfully placed just off M4. Bit of an update but value for money was excellent

- Frances (9/5): The best flushing loo that I have ever used even though it was a traditional top cistern . - Beautiful old house with period features in wonderful grounds . The breakfast was a buffet but individual style of eggs were available .The porridge was an excellant extra . Nothing was too much for the lady on duty . The hot water was too hot , it needed to be turned down by a few degrees .
- colin (5/5): - The room size was good, quite old and tired fittings No provision for evening meal, had to improvise as stuck in the middle of nowhere
- sian (7/5): Some disappointments - Staff welcoming and friendly. The room and ensuite was very good size
The dining /breakfast room very nicely decorated modern and spacious. The evening menu looked really interesting wished we had opportunity to try The room in parts was tired but nevertheless clean.
We were disappointed once again having booked via booking.com we had the room as described but what seemed to be in one of the worse locations. A large bay window facing the side of the main building just 5 feet or so away. We booked a few weeks in advance mid week stay so disappointed with staff room allocation..
The curtains and chairs most certainly needed replacing
- Frances (10/5): Extremely helpful front of staff who was calm in what could have been an awkward situstion . - We were en route to being picked up by coach for a holiday in Europe . 04 am pickup .....breakfast was some packed smoked salmon and lemon creme fraiche sandwiches on brown bread .....4 hours later absolutely delichious . No ground floor rooms ...no lift .
- Andy (10/5): Really enjoyed it 👍 - Location and staff. The rooms could probably do with updating.
- Andrew (10/5): Great hotel with superb staff and incredible value for money. - Great property in a really convenient location for the M4. The room was superb and incredibly good value.
- Hamilton (8/5): Clean, comfortable, gorgeous fluffy towels hot water excellent breakfast and friendly staff - History, lovely setting Nothing
- Patricia (9/5): The staff were very attentive. Dinner was excellent. We were a party of 6 & between us chose 3 different main cours - Lovely old Manor House set in spacious gardens. The bedroom was spacious & comfortable.

- Robert (9/5): Mooi gebouw in een rustige omgeving. - Mooie en authentieke omgeving. Vriendelijk personeel.

- Helen (8/5): Fabulous hotel, great staff and beautiful garden. - Location was great, the room was clean, the staff we met were really friendly and helpful. Our room overlooked an inner wall and windows with a staircase.
- Peter.
- Sandra (7/5): We arrived at 3.30pm, rooms were ready, we had a lovely warm greeting and was shown to our rooms - Breakfast was good but would have liked baked beans too Hotel rooms need a refurbishment
- Sandra (10/5): - Location excellent for our requirements. Breakfast good, dinner excellent - well cooked but portions a bit too big! Room comfortable. Having to pay £25 for 1 dog overnight seems a bit excessive. Although welcome for dogs extremely good.
- Julie (9/5): -
- Kate GL (9/5): - Lovely historic house, a peaceful oasis outside Swindon. Beautiful to wake to the sound of birds and enjoy the space. Rooms were spacious (we stayed in 5 and 6). Staff were helpful and very friendly. Plenty of parking. We arrived in time to have dinner in the dining room overlooking the garden. Pleasant breakfast in the breakfast area next to the bar. Although we didn't sample, the afternoon teas are clearly very popular and good. I'm not sure that the constant music adds to the ambience (especially at breakfast.) There was no milk to go with tea in my room (easily solved)
- Leo (10/5): -
- Ian (9/5): Superb 'genius' value for a large room in a 'country house' style property. - Excellent value for money but very quiet when I was there. Pleasant staff. I'm ambivalent about the car parking being at a little distance from the hotel.
- Björn (10/5): Beautiful accommodation with vibes. - Location, property, staff. Just beautiful and very friendly For some guests it might be an old property, not too modern. For us it was exactly what we were expecting.
- Gregory Peter (8/5): - nice big room.
the en-suite had a bath Dining room was freezing so i opted to eat out.
- Joseph (7/5): Lovely location, shame about the room - Location is beautiful and super convenient. Staff are really friendly and outgoing to help you when needed. Ample parking available and lovely grounds to walk through We booked a double room yet the bed was much smaller than our double bed at home which made it super tight and cramped when sharing with my partner. The pillows were also incredibly hard and uncomfortable.
The room we were in had the toilet about 2ft from the bed which also wasn’t nice if either one of us had to get up in the night. We found the room was very dusty which set off my partners allergies, which may have come with the age of the property but we did end up finding a handful carpet moths that concerned us. As we were only there two nights we put up with it although would not wanted to have stayed any longer in that bed/room. For the price we paid I expected more comfort and quality room.
- Nash (8/5): -
- Lynne (8/5): Relaxing one night stopover in good hotel - Large room , plenty of space. Giant bathroom with separate tub and walk in shower. Fanstastic food for dinner and breakfadt. Excellent value for money. Bed creaky and pillows quite hard. TV impossible to work. Some of the furniture worn. Two lovely large armchairs but no side table for drinks.
- Erik (8/5): Good price- quality hotel in a beautifull mansion - Nice location, spacious rooms, good parking, good foodprocessor, breakfast included. Nothing specific
- Mark (10/5): Perfect - Charming, peaceful and great location
- Paul (8/5): -
- Jonathan (8/5): -
- Thomas (7/5): Sehr schöne Unterkunft in toller Lage.
- Karen (7/5): Great value comfortable stay - Lovely staff great breakfast Stained bath and toilet
- mark (9/5): - Good room, all the little extras you want. excellent food, great breakfast and the staff were very friendly and extremely helpful.
- Heather (9/5): We will be back - Helpful staff, amazing food, great location & nothing was too much trouble
- Bob (8/5): Good value for money and breakfast excellent. - Pleasant and spacious property with good sized room and public areas. Staff very friendly and polite and guidance on arrival very helpful. Breakfast was good and quality of individual items in Full English is very good. I have another booking for a month's time! Room was almost ready for a refresh, but very functional as it is now.
- colin (10/5): -
- Julian (9/5): Great place, Swindon’s best kept secret - Excellent food, we ate in the restaurant in the evening and couldn’t fault anything … highly recommended Bit drafty, but to be expected in a period property
- Trisha (9/5): Delightful staff in a very pleasant environment. - Variety of choices. Excellent attentive service. Tasty food.
- moira (8/5): Very comfortable and a change from the usual chain. - Very good, freshly prepared breakfast. Hotel set in lovely garden. Bed a bit small. Would have preferred a walk-in shower.
- shelley (8/5): - Big rooms, evening food was very good. A few things needed updating and would have liked more breakfast options
- David (9/5): Great couple of days - Great location for walking the ridgeway. Staff were very friendly and food was great Not a lot not to like. Its old style so not modern
- Khadijah (9/5): -
- Nicola (10/5): Comfortable and enjoyable - The location to my sons house is super convenient, the staff are exceptional, friendly and happy to help with any need you may have I couldn't find fault , if I had to I would have liked to have seen a green tea option in the room !
- Khoi (10/5): - Very good breakfast
- David (10/5): -
- Judy (9/5): A beautiful house in an ideal position to visit Avebury and area, but also Oxfordshire and Berkshire - A beautiful old listed building with lovely aspect on to gardens at the front and side. I had a great bedroom with two armchairs and a very spacious bathroom complete with bidet. The view from the room wasn't the best, as I was in the extension and part of the windows overlooked the original hall about 8 ft away! However, I could look out over the car park at the side of the buildings. Very quiet, great bed with lovely linen. Nice to be able to sit in my room and read after a busy day out walking. I can't really complain about anything, but this is my personal take. The shower (overhead and attached to the taps) was out dated and a fiend to get the cold and hot water mixed properly! My first breakfast was great, freshly cooked eggs, bacon, etc. The second and third days we were given a buffet. Sadly, on both days the fried eggs were half hard boiled with no runny yolks. I sent them back the first time and got pipping hot freshly cooked eggs - delicious. I would have sent them back again on my last morning but was on a tight schedule so didn't. The hotel wasn't full to bursting so frankly I can't see why they can't fry an egg to order. It's not rocket science.
- Robin (8/5): -
- Sarah (10/5): -
- Calvin (8/5): Very nice relaxing hotel. - Nice and quiet and very clean No menu in the room for room service options
- Paul (10/5): Enjoyable stay at Chiseldon - Lovely hotel. Enjoyed a one night stay. Room was excellent, had a lovely dining experience. Good stay all round, would come again.
- Sasha (10/5): Perfect get away - Such a beautiful building, the restaurant was outstanding the food portions are just incredible!!!!!! Highly recommend
- Sarah (8/5): Great value overnight stay - Spacious, comfortable, powerful shower
- Hugh (10/5): Excellent stay - Staff particularly friendly and helpfull Nothing
- Matthew (8/5): -
- Brian (6/5): Comfortable and good breakfast -
- Steve (8/5): -
- Ray (6/5): Pleasant, but make sure you ask for twin beds. - The breakfast was very good.
The pork belly main course and sticky toffee pudding were very good.
The pillows were good.
The staff were very helpful. The double bed was too small, the mattress too hard and the quilt too heavy.
The room (11) was quite dark and just looked out on a flat roof and walls.
We had a loud rumbling noise outside our window for several hours from the kitchen vent.
Nowhere nearby to have even a little walk, just lots of traffic.
- Carolyn (7/5): Not luxury but comfortable - Lovely breakfast and the house had some very pretty features
The lady that was on reception/breakfast today (tall with dark hair in ponytail) was excellent. Very friendly and worked really hard.
Ample parking Very steep stairs to room and no offer of help with luggage
Bedding (quilt) was very thin and not particularly warm.
- Howard (8/5): -
- Maxine (9/5): Very comfortable overnight stay - would definitely return - Excellent location - lovely staff. The cooked breakfast was delicious The property is lovely but the rooms could do with a little update. The wardrobes were an odd choice for such beautiful rooms - and a smart tv would be useful
- Elizabeth (9/5): We would definitely return. - Location superb- close to the transport links yet very quiet and peaceful. Very easy to find. Breakfast was exactly as described and very tasty, served quickly and by very positive and friendly staff. We arrived later but they went out of their way to make lovely sandwiches.
We should all make use of these individual and local hotels more, it is much more personal than the big chains and really important to keep these local hotels going. A couple of details in the room such as a curtain hook, but only a tiny niggle.
- Mary (8/5): Would recomnend! - We needed to stay near family in Wroughton so this hotel was a good choice! The room & on suite bathroom were both a great size and it was nice to have a sofa. The staff were friendly & very accomodating. The breakfast was good. Everywhere was clean & tidy. I didnt like the cheap thin sized toilet paper in our room.
The TV was old & the remote difficult to work. The ubend in the toilet was black & stained but everything else was spotless!
- Patrick (8/5): - Friendly staff, lovely old house and grounds
- Olga (9/5): Hidden gem outside of Swindon - Everything as we expected, as advertised! Lovely breakfast! Pleasant staff Not many toiletries provided
- Jeremy (10/5): -
