Guest Reviews
- Victoria (8/5): - Great location near the falls!!!
- Darci (10/5): - Good breakfast & great views
- Christi (10/5): - Just a place to stay and convenient to Skógafoss and the Fimm Trail. Clean, comfy beds and pillows. Great view of falls and aurora from windows. Breakfast was acceptable, simple breakfast food and limited offerings. Coffee was available 24/7. Outside needs some cleaning up but we were pleasantly surprised how nice the inside was. I’d stay here again. Can walk to the falls and the restaurant.
- June (8/5): - The hotel is self check-in, so it’s very convenient if you dont have a set schedule. There really isn’t much service but I think there is a reception just down the street at a different hotel. I gave it 5 stars for the location, as it is only a short walk away from Skógafoss, kvernufoss and the Skógar museum, so you save parking fees if you plan to go to these places. Facilities are great provided it’s in a rural area, and the hot tub is a nice bonus.
- Karen (10/5): - Great location for hiking and waterfalls. The breakfast was lovely and lots of options. The self-service check-in was flawless. Great area and great hotel.
- zhongkui (6/5): - The breakfast buffet was not as good as those in other hotels in Iceland, with limited choices.
- Yanhong (10/5): Excellent place and service - Great location and wonderful services.
- Timothy (8/5): - Ok
- cheri (6/5): - I would rate the property a 2.5. The exterior is very run down. Pulling some weeds and just a fresh coat of paint on the entry way sign would help. The interior is clean but old and worn. The room is small and bathroom even smaller.
We stayed last nt at a brand new resort / spa for the same price near the glacier with amazing views. This has been a disappointment for sure.
Least favorite of 4 hotels during our 2 wk stay.
- Ross (8/5): - Older building but in good condition and very clean. Wonderful coffee maker and breakfast. We did not receive a text or email with our check in information so I had to drive to the hotel next door and check in. Great location. We would stay here again just for the coffee maker. Hot tub was clean. Sauna must be seasonal or out of order but it made a nice place to dry off out of the rain.
- Charles (10/5): - Location was great. No full time staff. Basic accommodations. Very pricy.
- Sylvie (6/5): - The outside is deceiving. Once inside, it is a weird set-up but our room was ok. Breakfast starts at 8 which was too late for us. Walking distance from the nearby waterfall.
- Lalit (4/5): - Definitely not a good value for the money!’
This hotel doesn’t have a receptionist. The confirmation email about hotel reservations and facilities electronic code never arrived.
- Robert (10/5): - Nice hotel
- Aleem (8/5): - Reason for a short stay, good breakfast and coffee machine.
Water is heavy with sulphur, very strong scent...lingers in your hair after you shower.
- Nathalie (10/5): - Our room was in a small building that reminded me of a Spanish villa. The room was on the second floor and had a view of the mountains. The bathroom was comfortable (shower was a bit small for my over 6 foot husband). Breakfast was very well stocked (prunes were a bit stale). The nearby Hotel Skógá restaurant was convenient. Access to the waterfall and related hikes was easy. A bonus is that we could walk to the Skogar Museum and the nearby forest planted by former students. My only suggestion is to provide guests with a number to call the restaurant ahead of time for reservations. We never had trouble getting a table but I would have reserved a table closer to a window if I had been given an opportunity to easily reserve one.
- Alexandre (10/5): - The breakfast is outstanding. Free coffee and tea 24 hours is nice. And complementary chocolates are an unexpected surprise. The location is hard to beat. Just 8 minutes walk to the Skagafoss, and a short drive to several other natural wonders.
- Michael (6/5): - Easy in
- Verified traveler (4/5): No Hot water and Not Quiet - After long day of hiking, I expected a hot shower. Never got hot water after running it over 10mins and gave up. Took 6mins to get Luke warm in sink. Hotel is not quiet as tile flooring on hallways where roller bags are dragged in at all hours will have you up and in morning, coffee machine and Bfast will echo through same small hall. This isn't worth the cost -its more like a B&B. Only thing has going for it is walkable to falls.
- Rick (2/5): - The cabinet above the tiny sink was in the way and can be hazardous to bump someone’s head. And it is hard to use the sink to brush teeth/wash face. It is highly recommended to move the cabinet to the right to make space. It is ok to install the mirror by itself above the sink. This property is basically a simple motel with small room. It seems clean but the drainage emits smell when taking shower. The continental breakfast was adequate with some variety. The seating faux leather was pealing though. The sister hotel nearby looks better and someone was in the service desk and he was very friendly. They may help you if you need something even for this location. I was told they added this dated property when it was for sale. Both hotels are close to one big waterfall. Another one is nearby. This beautiful waterfall is closer to the museum on the side of the cafe.
- Sasha (8/5): - This hotel was a great spot to stay when travelling through Iceland’s south coast. At the base of Skógafoss, the hotel has small but functional rooms, and an amazing complimentary breakfast. The hot tub had great views of the surrounding area, while still being private. Parking was conveniently located right outside the hotel. A note to any travellers, there is no fridge here.
- Alexis (8/5): - Nice, clean hotel driving distance to sightseeing opportunities. Included breakfast was great and a real money saver, as a breakfast like that would be about $30 USD in Iceland at a restaurant. Wish the room had a mini fridge, as we traveled with snacks and drinks due to the cost of eating out in Iceland so that was a let down as other hotels we stayed at provided this amenity. Beds were a little stiff, particularly the twin bed in the room. This is a contactless hotel, you're provided a code to get into the building and your room so no staff onsite for assistance. The breakfast attendant was nice and had the breakfast buffet set up punctually. Very close to the waterfall, beautiful mountain views from our room, and the hot tub was nice.
- Dillon (10/5): - Such a great place to stay! Easy check in, great location and very clean rooms. Nice little breakfast with a coffee machine and a short easy walk to one of the most beautiful waterfalls ever. We will be back!
- Cynthia (10/5): Great stay - Great stay very near a waterfall. Beautiful scenery! Everything was clean and comfortable. Nice breakfast. Delicious homemade cake
- Ash (2/5): - My wife found black sand in her bed.
- Ash (10/5): - Ease of checkin - excellent breakfast. Coffee machine was a major plus!!!
- Rogwarrior (8/5): - The staff was friendly. We arrived late (but before midnight). I dislike self-service hotels I've never gotten my room without an issue and this was no different. My information was sent to my friend's email but they did not include the code to my door. The phone number we called was not answered. Thankfully a second phone number (located in my friend's room) was found and we were able to get the missing code.
The staff was attentive and breakfast was included.
- Dwayne (8/5): - No food available close bye
- Martyn (8/5): Rain - Woke up to the sun for the first time
- Samantha (10/5): - Rooms were clean and breakfast was delicious. Staff were friendly and nice. Would come back again in the near future.
- Lauren (10/5): - Amazing spot, so cute and chic. Awesome amenities, shared space and great views from the hot tub!
- Haruna (10/5): - Hotel Skoga was very comfortable. It's also walking distance to the Skogafoss, a beautiful waterfall. Breakfast was great.
- Christine (10/5): - The self check in was very easy. Everything was very clean and neat. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast was the best we had during our stay in Iceland. Everything was hot and delicious. We loved that they had a self-serve coffee machine with lots of options for different hot drinks. The exterior of the hotel could use a refresh. I would advise not to “judge a book by its cover.” We definitely were not impressed by the front of the hotel but were very pleased with our stay overall. It’s a very convenient location for seeing the waterfalls and doing other glacier activities. We had a lovely dinner in the restaurant at their sister hotel, Hotel Skogafoss.
- GYUNGSOOK (10/5): - Bedding system, bathrobes and shower water pressure is very strong good.
- Sean (8/5): - Dry sauna inoperative...
Hot tub area has no lighting...cannot see when walking to and from area...
- Shelley (10/5): - Excellent property, nice location, very good breakfast, super easy check in and check out.
The bathrooom had a sliding door which had no locks, minor issue but was ok.
Overall great hotel would love to stay there again.
- Luke (10/5): My favourite hotel so far - Breakfast was lovely , even though self check in hotel ; staff that we did see were lovely beds were comfy and cosy and a good location.
- John (10/5): - very convenient
- Gwendolyn (10/5): - The staff are amazing. They are very accommodating, pleasant & helpful. The food was excellent & abundant. Highly recommend!
- Rebecca (8/5): - Had a really nice stay. Was very nice to have access to the hot tub. Breakfast was nice. Liked the access to warm beverage maching for tea, hot chocolate. Room was nice and had everything we neeeded. Could see Skogafoss from our hotel window. Walked there the next day.
- Alix (10/5): - Very quiet and peaceful property right next to Skogafoss waterfall and Skogafoss restaurant (try the lamb shank it was amazing)! The hotels breakfast is very good and the staff is very nice! We really enjoyed our stay here. Not a far drive from the city center it was nice to be close to Skógafoss waterfall. 10/10!
- Diane (8/5): - Contactless check in didnt work. We had to make a call to get the correct code to access the property.
Once i side the hotel was nicely presented with free tea and coffee and breakfast.
Nice place to stay and really close to the waterfall.
- Elayna (2/5): - Not only was this our worst stay around the ring road but it might have been our worst stay ever. We stayed for two nights and two days. The location is nice right by the waterfall and a 30 min drive to Vik. However, our heat was broken the first day. We turned it up and hours later we put our hand on the radiator and it was freezing. It kicked on the next day but we were freezing the whole first day. Our tv was also broken, and we contacted the hotel and they never responded. It rained all day and night so not having a working TV was a huge bummer. The seal on the shower door was broken so our whole bathroom flooded and then never dried since it was so cold in our room. The sauna is broken and looks like it has been for awhile due to all the spider webs on the inside. There is free coffee and tea. The room is very small and not optimal if you have a large suitcase. By far our worst stay in Iceland and I would never go back. I contacted Expedia for a partial refund due to all the issues.
- Adam (10/5): Perfect bed n breakfast - Excellent hotel for what we were looking for! We had flown in that morning and jumped on the road right away to see the sights of the south coast of Iceland...For our trip, the hotel was in a perfect spot near Skogafoss and just off the main highway. It's a "self-check-in" hotel which was convenient as we had no issues getting into our room after a long day of travel and exploring.
The hotel and room were clean, quiet, and cozy. We only stayed one night and had their continental breakfast before we headed out.
There is another hotel within a 5 min walk that has a bar/restaurant with a decent menu selection and open until 9pm I believe as well.
We only stayed here for 12 hours, but would stay here again on our next trip to Iceland!
- Crystal (10/5): - Beautiful rooms. Loved hot tub and coffee machine and chocolates!!
- Viridiana (10/5): - The rooms were beautiful and comfortable. Everything was clean
- Lorraine (10/5): - Great location!
- Corey (8/5): - Great location next to Skogafoss and a few other waterfalls in the area. Love the coffee machine comes in handy after chasing lights at night coming in from the cold.
- Agnes (8/5): - Hotel is very conveniently located. Staff was amazing. We had to leave before breakfast started and we received boxes to go.
We didn’t like tile floor in the room. It was cold on the feet. Sink in the bathroom was tiny and glass shelf right above made teeth brushing difficult. Overall we had a very good experience.
- Zoelena (10/5): - Loved this hotel. You are walking distance to a beautiful waterfall. Perfect location to watch the northern lights.
- Alison (10/5): - Small nice hotel with easy self check in . Clean rooms with good beds and nice shower. Short walk to the falls. Good breakfast in the morning with cold and hot options. Good quality espresso machine for coffee and chocolates and teas when you want which was appreciated after a long drive. If you can, walk to the top of the falls and keep going. We saw 7 waterfalls but there are at least 10. We ran out of time sadly. Thank you for a nice stay. Would love to return someday.
- Justin (10/5): - .
- Timothy (10/5): - Our room had a nice view of Skogafoss and the mountains. Excellent breakfast as well!
- Nicholas (10/5): - Located almost right next to the waterfall.
- John (8/5): - Beautiful views and close to many tourist destinations. However the walls are very thin and doors opening and closing in other parts of the building were very loud as were other guests voices.
- Gabrielle Angela (10/5): - Easy self check in. Room was spacious!! Had a beautiful mountain view! We got lucky to see the northern lights here! Breakfast was great!!
- Raymond (6/5): - We were one of 4 other parties, that I knew of that did not receive any check in information. We had to go to Hotel Skokafoss (300 m away) to retrieve our information. The room itself was clean and the breakfast was adequate, however the exterior is definitely not as nice as their sister hotel. Good central location though.
- Sandra (10/5): - Great view of the falls
- Julia (10/5): - The best coffee. Very close to local attractions.
- Seyed gholamreza (6/5): - Very good place
Very good food
- Stephen (8/5): - Could use a little refresh, but otherwise everything was good. Great location, room was clean and comfortable, and breakfast was tasty.
- David (10/5): - Great service and delicious breakfast. Room was spacious. Great location
- Dalia (8/5): - This property is more a semi Airbnb/hotel, then a regular hotel. There is no staff available on the premises although there is staff down the road. By email, I received the code to enter the property and my room, And those worked fine. Happily., Breakfast was provided. Coffee was always available. It is located right next to one of Iceland‘s most famous waterfalls.
- Shanmuga (10/5): Ideal for a day at South Iceland - Location is ideal, the service staff were friendly and welcoming
- Michael (10/5): - beautiful view of the waterfalls!
Breakfast was a plus & plentiful!
- Valerie (10/5): - Will go again!
- Erico (10/5): - Great hotel at a great location! At first we were concerned about the hotel having no staff on premises for check in, but everything went smoothly, we got a password for the doors prior to our arrival and were able to get in with no problems. The room was great overall and with a nice view.
The location is amazing, just by two of the best waterfalls we’ve seen on the south coast and also close to great hiking trails. It was the highlight of our trip.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Hidden gem at Skogafoss - Although the exterior of the hotel was weather worn, the interior rooms and dining area were great. The service of breakfast was phenomenal. Hand made to order from a previously submitted food request placed and ready to eat before we showed up for breakfast. Fantastic view of Skogafoss and would stay there again! The beds were comfortable and all updated bathroom and interior room.
- Jennifer (10/5): Hidden gem at Skogafoss - Although the exterior of the hotel was weather worn, the interior rooms and dining area were great. The service of breakfast was phenomenal. Hand made to order from a previously submitted food request placed and ready to eat before we showed up for breakfast. Fantastic view of Skogafoss and would stay there again! The beds were comfortable and all updated bathroom and interior room made it even more pleasant. Don’t let the worn exterior dismay you from the beauty of the inside.
- cheryl (10/5): - Great location! EXCELLENT staff. Plan on coming back again soon.
- Alex (4/5): - Stayed here on a recent trip and was pretty disappointed. Paper thin walls, water smelled like sulfur, the lock to unlock the door stopped working and almost locked us out. Ended up with a bad night's sleep from people hanging out in the common area downstairs late and smelling like sulfur because I tried to take a shower. Would recommend staying in Vik where theres more food/things to do or just anywhere else I guess. Only bright spot was the staff helping to retrieve a forgotten item.
- Carol (10/5): - Had a great time very close to waterfall and breakfast was great. Liked the drink machine so we could all choose what we liked.
- Manisha (10/5): - Quaint property and really enjoyed our stay here
- Debra (6/5): - Was just average
- Marina (8/5): - It is a self check-in hotel, no visible staff. You have everything you need for a night stay. Nothing fancy but totally acceptable. A nice restaurant is a few meters away on the way to the Falls. Breakfast was very simple basic, variety and good quality, hot and cold. Coffee/espresso machine is onsite 24/7 which was a great addition.
- Robert (6/5): - Bathroom was very small. Water in bathroom shower and sink smelled like rotten eggs. Need more counter space in room. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good.
- Don (10/5): - This was a perfect location for my four-night stay in southern Iceland. The hotel is right off Rte. 1 and is within walking distance of Skogafoss. Vik and Reynisfjara are less than 30 minutes away, through some awesomely spectacular landscapes.
A nearby venue (walkable from the hotel) is a curated, three-part museum consisting of historical artifacts; 20th-century technology—each in its own contemporary building; and an outdoor museum of several buildings that were moved here from their original 19th- and 20th-century sites. The tech museum also houses a quality (and good-value) restaurant that operates during museum hours.
Hotel staff are friendly, helpful, and always obliging. Breakfasts are served in a spacious dining room with views of adjacent farmland and mountains. My single room had a large bathroom. Amenities include an outdoor hot tub and a sauna. I would definitely stay here again.
- Susan (10/5): - Beautiful location, clean, comfortable room.
- Nancy (10/5): - Unassuming from the outside but great inside. Easy self check in. Highly recommend this place.
- April (10/5): - Excellent location- Next to waterfalls. Restaurant on property. Be sure to tell people that you offer free breakfast and hot tub at this hotel, as we did not know until we checked in.
- Carol (10/5): - Nice location and nice room and staff.
- chris (8/5): - It was a nice, quiet and clean room. Only complaint was the entire bathroom floor was soaked from the shower water. The shower didnt drain fast enough and it came out under the shower door.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Step up from a hostel, but not priced appropriately.
- Larissa (10/5): - Great location and super close to Skogafoss. Worth staying here for a great rest rather than the busy campground just down the road. The self check-in was easy and convenient. The room was nice and the black out curtains worked great (visited in July). The breakfast spread in the morning was a nice variety. Nice stay.
- Weidong (10/5): - The best location for Skogafoss in walking distance and great breakfast with wonderful staffs.
- Lynda (8/5): - It’s a great location right by Skógafoss. Breakfast was wonderful.
- Eric (8/5): - Great location, friendly staff
- Lin (10/5): - Like it!
- Daniel (10/5): Good quality by the Skogafoss Falls - The hotel is located right near the Skogafoss falls, and there is a restaurant nearby. The hotel is a self check-in establishment, and it sends the guest the room number assigned to it and a password code to enter the hotel and the room. There is a self-service high end coffee machine in the lobby and the complementary breakfast is excellent. There is also a geothermal spa attached to the hotel. The room is clean and the bed comfortable.
- NAVNEET (10/5): - Self-check in. So definitely check your email before reaching the hotel. Overall clean room. Very close to waterfall (a short walk). Very satisfied and overall great experience.
- Jennifer (8/5): - Self check in hotel and was very nice staff and great free breakfast
- Dol Bahadur (10/5): - Very good hospitality. Organized and nice breakfast.
- Lorenzo (10/5): - so close to Skoga waterfall. Check in so easy
The way they prepared the breakfast, made you feel special.
- Amy (10/5): - Hotel Skógafoss may be lacking in elegance, but this was our favorite stay! The breakfast was made to order and was so delicious! Comfy beds and hot water
- Olivia (8/5): - A cute little hotel in an incredible setting and easily accessible from the ring road. There were often no staff around but when we did encounter them, they were extremely friendly and helpful.
- Brian (6/5): - Overall was a perfectly fine hotel. I was disappointed that both the Sauna and Hot Tub were out of service. It was the only reason we chose the hotel over others
- Dawn (4/5): - We recently stayed at Hotel Skogar from Sept 12-14, 2022 and were sorely disappointed in the condition of the hotel and the amenities. Just a word of caution, they advertise a hot tub, sauna, and restaurant but when we were there none of these were open. We had to walk to Skogarfoss Hotel for dinner both nights. Additionally, the shower in our room had mold and was making us sick. The hot water smells terribly of sulfur. The breakfast was descent, room was clean. Easy walk to the waterfall.
- Rebecca (6/5): - The room was clean enough and spacious, although the water in the bathrooms had a strong smell. The check-in process was easy, although not clear as we were told somebody would be there, when in fact they had just left a key out on the counter and our room unlocked.
The amenities advertised were not available. The hot tub was empty and filthy, and the sauna was under construction.
The food was not particularly good, but available.
This was not very good value for the expensive price paid for the room.
- Michele (8/5): - Small hotel in great location for hiking near skogafoss waterfall. Some rooms are pretty small, others are a bit better sized. Quiet area, and friendly staff, but it seems they’re just getting staffing levels back up to where they were. Restaurant was closed (staffing issues apparently), but the did offer a nice breakfast.
- anita (6/5): - Comfortable beds, nice window view, good breakfast. What I didn’t like is that the room wasn’t tidied up/cleaned, the windows were difficult to open and close, the shower curtain kept falling off the rail, the TV and the wifi didn’t always work well.
