Guest Reviews
- Rachelle D. Runnels (10/5): Beautiful and cozy, lots of fun - Beautiful, staff is SO kind, and everything you need is in one arena. Not having room service in a hotel that has its own restaurant is just a bad business model.
Please bring back individual bathroom toiletries.
- Amber (10/5): - We enjoyed the bar on level 3 and the games bar. The front desk staff seemed new, or unsure about info
- Will (5/5): -
- Melissa (10/5): Loved the cabin fill of the room and the view. Restaurant and bar was good. - Loved the location. Beautiful view. Nothing
- Sherburn (10/5): -
- Katherine (8/5): - The location was amazing and the hotel room was very nice as well. I wish they provided body lotion in the hotel rooms. I didn't bring any thinking the room would be provided with some. I also didn't like that there wasnt a free breakfast provided in the morning.
- Gigi (10/5): Love place for an overnight! - Nice location overall.
2 am, noise somewhere from another room, I texted help to the night concierge and he "looked into it right away" and I don't know what he did but it got quiet soon after---Yay!.
Morning tea and coffee in the Lounge. Morning staff were very friendly, helpful, cheerful.
- Calvin (8/5): - Location, walk, friendly staff It was dark inside, everywhere.
- Clinton (10/5): - Lovely
- Suzanne (10/5): - Wonder if there’s a staffing issue for restaurant servers? They were great tho.
- John (10/5): - Had a wonderful time! Unique setting, pet friendly, great food!
- Phil (9/5): -
- Chris (9/5): A gem! - What a surprise! Very cool vibe right along the river. Good green space for dog walking. Rooms were unique. The hotel had many surprises, including secret rooms. Food was okay, not fabulous.
- Gloria (10/5): We'll be back! - We liked our room but will choose a riverside room next times. Sure enjoyed relaxing on the riverside decks at lunch and dinner. Such nice staff! Easy parking.

- Rebecca (8/5): - Very unique place. Nice views, good food, nice meeting facility, beds were comfortable
- Maryann (8/5): Great location, interesting and intriguing hotel, pleasant staff and delicious food! We will return. - Loved location and restaurants. Loved the outdoor balcony. Lighting in room and bathroom was too dim. Bathroom could use more shelf space.
- Trina (10/5): - Fun adventurous rooms. Heard the train all might. So, if you want peace and quiet. Not for you! Food was okay. Room was clean and had a beautiful bottle of wine wait for us when we checked in. Just wish it wasn’t so close to the train tracks.
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional -
- Guge (10/5): Great get away - We did not had breakfast.
- Jennifer (9/5): Cozy and inviting treasure of Kalama - I enjoyed the unique decor and furnishings at the property. The staff were great, and the gardens on the grounds are lovely. Rooftop dining with a view of the Columbia river was a treat. The lighting in the guest room bathroom could be better.

The area close by is expanding for things to do too. Extra bonus for us was they had EV charging stations right in the parking lot. We will be going back.

- Lorena (10/5): - Beautiful place to stay. Gorgeous gardens. Fun river traffic various boats. Great art store next store.. Really great walking trail for people and dogs.
- Julia (10/5): - A well-thought historically themed property. Did smell the bar wells when entering each bar area. May want to do a steam cleaning. Otherwise we had a great experience. Food was better than expected. The staff were professional and polite even to a few difficult or intoxicated guests.
- Henry (10/5): A great day at the beach. - 50 yr birthday celebration. Had a wonderful time. Staff, service, food & amenities were top notch. Nice property on the beach of a cool, Historic Harbor. The Mai Thai wild Alaskan Cod was amazing.👏
- Jenifer (9/5): Fun. We could have stayed longer to enjoy amenities - Cool hotel. loved the themed and local history. if you stay, look for the secret rooms. The balcony with super comfy chairs and even throw blankets as it was a little chilly. Clean. In the perfect location for us to visit friends and fish. No refrigerator!!! UGH! This was the only hotel in 6 days we stayed in that didn't have a refrigerator. Was so surprised. My partner wanted in the room coffee but they did nicely make it very early so we could have a cup before our fishing trip.
- Donna (10/5): Repeatable! - The outside decks, the restaurants & lounges, the comfy room & bed, the room decor, and the quietness.
- Kim (10/5): - The decor of the location was very unique, and I like that each room had a theme. The place is small and very homely. The overall atmosphere is very friendly and cozy.

- Julie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jason (10/5): Great location and service we will be back. - Food and beverages were great Cheaper room rates and more bacon and or sausage two pieces isn’t enough.
- Karen (10/5): Short, sweet. Want to return for a longer stay. - Loved the view in both the partial and full river view. Loved to be able to walk out and sit on balcony. Loved proximity to beach and walking paths. Want to come back and explore the Markets. Thermostat was not user friendly. We would have preferred to sleep at around 65 but it was 70. We couldn't figure out how to turn it down. But, we both slept well.
- Daniel (3/5): Never stay there again - No a menities, No in room coffee. No refigerator or microwave No way to control the temperature.
- Sandra (7/5): Mixed bag. Great room and views, slow service for food - The room was very comfortable with modern amenities. The food both for dinner and breakfast tasted really great. Service was overwhelmed at dinner so we spent two hours on dinner. We got Mai tais before we got water.
Service at breakfast was slow and grudging, even though they didn’t appear busy. Our eggs and hash browns were cool on the edges. I don’t know if the kitchen is understaffed or they need more waitstaff, but something needs to change.
- Cassie (10/5): - loved watching the river and its activities
- MacKenzie (10/5): Epic trip with amazing staff! - 10/10 as always!
Sarah at the front desk was absolutely incredible! We had excellent service in every one of the restaurants!
Always a special treat to stay at McMenamins!
Literally, I'm in awe of how lovely the staff is across the board. Thank you!!! Can't wait to come back!
- Terrie (9/5): We will be back. Very relaxing. - Dinner and drinks were good. Staff lit a fire for us on request very quickly.
- Fredrick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kenneth (8/5): - Being on the Columbia River and surrounded by a great park, is tough to beat. Not very quiet as it’s off I-5 and by the railroad tracks. Didn’t like at all is they don’t have a fridge or microwave in rooms. The Wi-Fi is horrible and it seems there are no cell towers near. We suffered but McMenamins is still a unique chain.
- Kimberly (9/5): Superb -
- Brian (10/5): - It was a fun place to get away for the night. The rooms were clean and great views and good food & drinks. Would love to go back.
- Kim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Glynna (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful place in a beautiful location. Rooms are very dark.
- Elizabeth (8/5): - Unique spot facing the river with ship and cruise activity.
- Phillip (8/5): Worth the price - The location is really interesting and right on the Columbia River. The service was excellent and the restaurant staff responded to a family mishap well. I would happily stay again.
- Jeffery (10/5): - Decor. Location. Coffee.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I couldn't be happier with my room! Was there just overnight for work and it was perfect. Staff was very friendly and accommodating the rooms were comfortable and good food!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice place. Good location. Beautiful view. Clean room.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was all beautiful. We enjoyed watching the brewer work. It was a joyous stay
- Dan (8/5): - Was disappointed there wasn’t coffee in the room.
Also no microwave or refrigerator.
The blankets weren’t very warm.
I have stayed at other McMinimums so this one is comparable.
I do love the service, they were friendly and helpful. Loved the woodwork and the patio.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Custom rooms. Walls are thin, heard way more than I wanted to from the neighbors
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Super fun hotel with amazing customer service. I can’t wait to go back.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I greatly enjoyed the room themes, friendly staff, and location on the Columbia River. It was great that coffee was offered at the front desk, I just wish there was a coffee pot in the room so I didn't have to wait until 5:00 am to get coffee and have to travel to the front desk to get coffee.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Location is great, on the River front. Staff was very accommodating and lots of outdoor seating with heat due to Covid
- Susan (10/5): - Loved that we were right on the River with a river walk in front. played on the sand with our dogs and had a wonderful time exploring the rooms and property. Loved the gift shop as well.
Had to do everything as COVID definitely played into our stay. dining outside was OK, but would have preferred to dine inside. when COVID ends.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Wonderful overnight stay right off of I5. Very clean hotel. Our partial Columbia River view was better than expected. We enjoyed happy hour outside, plenty of firepits, lap blankets, and distance between guests, also the option of a heated outside tent. Our server recommended their prime rib dip special, and we ordered it from room service later. Very quick service, and delicious. The black and tan brownie with ice cream was also great. We explored the hotel floors, quirky art, found the secret rooms (shh, there’s actually three 🙌), bought our passport and got stamped, and perused the gift shop. Enjoyed the regular trains going by, but there wasn’t any problems with the noise from them or the freeway. There’s a walking path along the river, only wish we had more time to explore it. The only complaint I would have is the prices in the gift shop, would have bought wine and whiskey, plus other souvenirs, but they were all so expensive. We did pickup a few canned ciders and IPA’s. Never made it to Ahles Cabin but there is a wonderful coffee shop nearby with artwork for sale. All in all, a really fun stop. I’d stay here again and recommend it to friends. Seems as though it’s best for two people. Also, there are tvs in the room, which doesn’t seem to be for other McM’s locations.
- Jim (10/5): - Quick travel stop. Very comfortable
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great hotel with a slight smell to my room - This place stands up to its reputation. Super cool and fun even in covid times. My only complaint is my room smelled like when someone needs to wash their hair, its a specific oil smell. You only notice it when you walk in or out of the room.
- Richard (4/5): Guests Beware of Trains! - Rather disappointing. Guests should be advised about proximity of railroad yards, with noise all night long.
Rooms could use some amenities (coffee maker) and some plugs for computers, etc. What century is this?
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great place! - I loved your hotel and would definitely stay there again. My only comment would be the lighting in the room. I felt it was dark. One lightbulb was out but that wasn’t the difference.
Otherwise EXCELLENT!!
- Glen (10/5): Thumbs up Kalama! - Wonderful stay, good food, loved watching the river traffic. Room was awesome, balcony view was very nice and very relaxing. Secret rooms are afoot!
- CassieD (10/5): - Food was amazing and loved walking all the halls to view the pictures and read the history of the area.
- Sarah (10/5): LOVE McMenamins! - We always opt for McMenamens whenever we can. Love the quirky decor, accommodations, service, and food. GREAT vibe, too.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Quirky art, great food, good system for dealing with the current Covid conditions - they manage to get people in and seated in an efficient manner. Hotel room was spectacular, we stayed on the water side, it was great entertainment to watch the fishermen. Dinner was mostly appetizers, as we were watching the game. The clams were fantastic, the broth amazing. Breakfast was delicious as well, the corned beef hash was interesting as it was a soft scrambled egg versus the traditional poached. Check in and out were both easy and quick, no issues at all. It was a wonderful stay, and worth the money, which is saying something because I'm not known for splurging on hotel room costs.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The river front room was awesome! Staff very helpful!
- Rickey (8/5): RELAXING!!! - Nice & relaxing stay with my bride!
Great food at the restaurant!
- Greta (10/5): 2 day land cruise - Great trip with great weather and food.
- Lea (10/5): - Well I liked everything! The rooms were so comfortable, the food was great and the staff went above and beyond to make you feel welcome! The grounds are lovely!
- Alan (10/5): Don’t miss this place!! - AWESOME!! What an amazing place (thank god we got the river view)! Room was super cool, the view is incredible, food was awesome, grounds and beach are beautiful and everybody was so dang nice!!! 10+++ nuff said
