Guest Reviews
- Laina Yvonne yvonne (6/5): - Ingen airkondisjon, kjempevarmt på rommene, selv lufting via gangkorridor hjalp lite. Vanskelig å sove.
God frokost!
Grande servizio. Camera spaziosa e confortevole, bagno comodo e pulito.
- Hans-Thomas (10/5): - Super netter Gastgeber!
- Knut (10/5): Fornøyd. - Trivelig hotel, der alt fungerte. God frokost.
- didier (8/5): Étape correcte - Hôtel correct très propre, service impeccable
- Freddy (8/5): - lekker diner in het restaurant
- Gerard (10/5): - Rooms were very quiet, TV included Netflix.
- Man Wai (10/5): - Nice staff, especially Mariana, which is her last 2 days to work here.
Breakfast buffet is good
- Svein (10/5): Fint & nøkternt - Hyggelig betjening, enkel frokost.
Manglet heis dessverrie.
- Klas-Göran (8/5): - Ok men inget mera. Saknades duschkräm. Ingen vidare frukost
- Knut (10/5): Godt hotel.
- Herschel (10/5): Nice place surrounded by great nature. - Great value in a nice little town. Clean, comfortable rooms. Great access to two national parks: Jostedalsbreen and Jotunheimen. The hotel is the only "action" in town, that is restaurant and "bar" (really the front desk, which in addition to alcohol also served as the local ice cream parlor).
- MELANIE (8/5): - Nice modern spacious room and good dining options.
- Tor Harald (10/5): Ypperlig - Veldig bra beliggenhet, sentralt i Gaupne. Kort gangavstand til kjøpesenter og badeanlegg. Veldig hyggelig betjening.
- Luis (4/5): - Very nice location.
Spacious rooms, one with renovated bathroom and another out of service. Varied breakfast.
However, the cleanliness failed, dirty carpet and sofa.
- Carina (8/5): - Einfache nette Unterkunft
- inge (10/5): - Greit opphold. God frokost. God middag. Hyggelig betjening. Generelt god service.
- Anna Clara (8/5): Great overnight stay. - Very nice hotel with friendly staff but no extras. Tried 3 different meals and all were good and presented very nice.
The only thing is that there is no outlet for a hairdryer close to a mirror… Easy for the hotel to do something about.
- Brenda (10/5): - Friendly staff, great dinner and super clean room.
- Neil03091947 (10/5): The perfect stop on our visit to Skjolden. - Needing to do some working Skjolden, we found this very well suited hotel in Gaupne, about 30 minutes away. Arriving about 17:00 we were able to settle in in time to have a great evening meal.
The room - Junior suite, facing north, wit a large balcony overlooking the stream.
Breakfast had also a perfect selection, and all the staff were very professional, even Hans Olav was very helpful with information.
We will be back.
- Ola (10/5): - Clean, friendly staff and good breakfast. Good value for the money.
- Arild (8/5): Helt greit alternativ - Helt greit ut fr forventningene.
- Sverre Delin (10/5): - Meget hyggelig betjening.
- Kjersti (6/5): - Slitt.
- Rolf (8/5): Godt utgangspunkt for spektakulær natur.
- traveltheworld012 (6/5): Very basic hotel room for an upper scale price. - We drove 6.5 hours from Trondheim to get here. Getting here was a thrill and a half. High mountain pass, switchback narrow roads, often wide enough for only one car. It was raining and as we started to descend there was fog so thick we could not see the road ahead more than 15 feet. So needless to say we were glad to arrive and rest. I had searched online for a hotel in this area, but the ones I wanted were fully booked. We settled for this one with a higher price tag. It is very pretty scenery here and it seems this town may have been settled by Italians... more about that later.
It seemed to me this is an older 2 story motel, that recently has had a big 1 story addition put on for a restaurant and bigger lobby area. The rooms may have been updated recently as well. Our room (#104) was very basic, one chair, small desk and two single beds across the room from each other. We are a couple (don't they have double beds?) so we completely rearranged the room so the beds could be pushed together. The room is quite small so it wasn't easy. There was a flat screen TV on the wall. One plus is that the big windows looked out at the mountains, a creek running right past our window. There were sheep grazing on the other side of the creek. So that made a pleasant view in spite of its other shortcomings. Intriguing thing about the room is that in between the window is a vertical screened vent you can ope for ventilation without opening a window. We also had dinner here in the restaurant. It seems the place is run by college students and all the servers are high school girls that really haven't been trained for their job. Difficulty getting waited on here, they seemed to be ignoring us. There are only 6 or 7 menu items and half are simple pasta dishes, over priced and smaller portions. Along one wall in the restaurant is a display case with antique accordions, several from Italy. This I enjoyed looking at. Breakfast here is sparse, which was okay for us, but for the price of a room they should be able to put out a better breakfast spread. I am being a bit generous with giving this a 3 dot rating, but the pleasantries mentioned helped get it there, otherwise a 2.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Not what we expected - Didn’t know what to expect. We wound up in a cabin in their campground- there is also a hotel but it looks more hostel like. Cabin had awful bed - one of us wound up sleeping in the hard couch as the double bed was very small and mattress squishy. Above the double was a single bunk but had no ladder to get up. You have to clean it before leaving or be charged extra but there was no broom, mop or trash bin. But, there was a dishwasher! Quite odd. Cabin 1 was attached to Cabin 2- thankfully our neighbors were quiet. However it was a noisy location as it was right by entrance and camp restroom/shower.continuous foot , car and Rv traffic during daylight. Breakfast could be purchased at the hotel but compared to other hotel breakfasts it looked skimpy, picked over and not worth it. Gaupne is a cute quiet town but this lodging leaves a lot to be desired. Found a nice path to walk along the river up to the waterfall.
- NLaursen (4/5): Basic and overpriced - The hotel is rather a motel style. The rooms are small and basic, but clean. The bathroom has somehow nothing to hang your towels on?! The breakfast is very basic and with only a very small selection. The price of room seems very overpriced compared to better hotels at lower prices. And they will charge you 50 NOK if you want a thermos with hot water!
- 698rebeccaj (6/5): A bit overpriced - We only stayed for a night and had a room. Very basic room with only two beds, a table and a chair.
Breakfast was very simple as well.
And they asked for 50 NOK for a hot water fill for our one small thermos!
This was one of the priciest hotels on our trip so we had expected more for our money.
Nice and friendly staff but the stay was not worth the money.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - be aware that they book rooms from a campground as cabins at the hotel. then no linens are provided unless you pay 10 US per person which was in the fine print and i missed. finally you HAVE TO CLEAN THE CABIN YOURSELF!
No mention of that on expedia. rooms and cabins are all non smoking but ours smelled horribly of smoke. expedia in the end refunded us part of the fee.
- Oded (8/5): Nice cabin for a family vacation - Great self service cabins. Nice view. Spacious. Equipped kitchen.
You should bring your own linen, but it was odd that there was no soap/hand soap at all.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Nice cabin in beautiful location, very clean. However, the small refrigerator had NO FREEZER! This led to our frozen food thawing and also prevented us from making ice. Ad said kitchen was “fully equipped”. Sadly, it wasn’t!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Excellent service - Basic rooms, but very friendly and helpful staff. Nice home cooked food. Beautiful location
- TerjeVik (8/5): Nice clean cabin in a great area - We stayed in a one bedroom cabin on the upper row. Cabin was clean, furniture in good appearance and beds were good. We brought our own traveller bed for the toddler since the description stated they did not have any extra beds. No problem since the description was so clear and pictures showed that bedrooms had sufficient space. - The cutlery was a bit sparse. Only 3 forks, knifes etc. enough for 3 people, but would need to be washed after every meal. A dishwasher is present. A microwave would have been excellent, but we managed fine with the classic oven. There is a fridge but no freezer.
The price was ok for two nights. It is a couple of hundred meters from the hotel/reception. Internet however was not stable on one of our phones, but acceptable on another and on the pc.
For a family with a little kid we could wish they were a bit more equipped for that. Since we came here off season it is possible that they do have more stuff in the summer. - Our kid was happy to run around splasing in ponds in the rain.
We would consider staying here again.
- I9236FIchristinew (10/5): Superior Double Room - We stayed in a superior double room which had a mini kitchenette and a small living room area. The room was excellent. The free breakfast was basic but nothing to complain about. We ate dinner at the hotel restaurant both nights because it is a very small town. Everything we had for dinner was very good. This was a great place to stay to visit Nigardsbreen Glacier.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Hotel staff recommended a route under construction. It was impossible to get there and took like 4 hours...
- coolc957 (8/5): Quick visit - Small cozy hotel for short basic stay in very calm village..my room was good for 2 and the view was great..it included breakfast but I didn’t try it.. very clean room and the staff was nice but the walls is thin.. calm area in general..If I pass through this village again I will surly stay here again
- Musicofnote58 (6/5): Overpriced for what we got - This little spot looked unprepossesing at first but was lrasantmy surprising inside. However, the room was very sparsely furnished, with zero trimmings, like a hostel, and the walls thin. My snoring neighbour was clearly audible through the wall, next door! Spartan. But spotless, with comfy beds.
Dining room was cold for dinner, the choice poor and atmosphere bereft. But one can ask for a small salad instead of the ubiquitous potatoes with one's meal.
Ok breakfast, nothing special (included).
- danbO6627MC (4/5): Not really a hotel but looks like hostel - The positive things: clean and the staff is friendly. negative: located far from everything, very basuc breakfast with very little variety of products, no elevator therefore you have to carry your luggage up through the stairs. Noise in the rooms even on the high floor. Minimum confort. Not recommended
- Hila (6/5): - The internet Wifi was not good at all. We needed it for work and it was a problem.
- Akivz (10/5): Very nice and cozy hotel - Great hotel.
We've spent two nights there, it was absolutely lovely.
Cozy rooms, very helpful staff.
The location is also very convenient if you want to explore the area - plenty of stuff to see and do within a half hour drive radius.
Good breakfast, and in the evening there's a very good dinner as well (including great and not expensive pizza) with some local beers (loved the IPA).
And the best part - there are few large blackcurrant and redcurrant
bushes by the porch!
- ethnet (8/5): Cosy and confortable place - Me and my friend stayed for a night in Gaupne and even if it was October, out of the tourist season, we had a great experience. The suites were luminous and comfortable, and very clean as well! The staff was fearly friendly and it's close to some shops and facilities.
- atlanticophelia (4/5): Friendly but poor place to stay - The season is very short in Norway. Maybe this is the reason accommodation is not so well developed. This place with it's somewhat coincidental furniture and office-like rooms is well situated, but completely lacking atmosphere and beauty.
It's okay to stay here, it's clean and the breakfast is good, but at prices like this (1600 NOK for a family room for 3) the generel level ought to be higher.
- AndreaM209 (8/5): Great cabin with wonderful views - Very functional cabin (number 27). Comfortable beds, plenty of space. Friendly staff. Needed a few items for the cabin (very minor) and they addressed right away.
Sat on the patio and watched the sun set over the mountains, could see the glacier in the distance.
Quiet, good nights sleep. Good wifi in the cabin.
- 647PaulP647 (10/5): Great common areas, nice rooms - Large, inviting common area. Very nice garden area. Enjoyed dinner after a long day on the glacier. Simple menu, but the chicken and salmon are both good options. Nice selection of beer and a few wines. Rooms and bathrooms are clean and large, and appear to have had a recent refresh
- 406harriets (8/5): convenient place to stay close to the Nigaardsbreen glacier - The hotel is a nice place to stay, with a great lounge and restaurant area to hang around. We shared a family room with two teenagers, which was a bit crowded. The breakfast was excellent. I found the hotel a little expensive for what it offers.
- Vas_p-G (10/5): Excellent service, very nice & cosy rooms - We spent two days at this wonderful place! We had a room for four at the ground flour, with enough space for all of us, very clean , nice decoration and excellent view to the village. We even had a small fridge for our water or drinks and snacks to be chilled. Bed and sofa were very comfortable and we had a very good sleep. The bathroom was quite big , with modern decoration and absolutely clean. Breakfast was also very good and we even Had our dinner there both nights. Pizza was tasteful and we tried some of them as they have a good variety. We even ate a very good salmon dish. All our choices were value for money. If you want a good place to stay so as to be near the glacier for a visit , or just you are traveling around Norvege then this is your hotel!
- kristianem2015 (8/5): Weekendstay - Stayed here friday to sunday. We got a refurbished room which was clean and nice, good size. Location is great, especially since we had family staying at the camping just a minute walk from the hotel. Breakfast was ok. We had dinner/lunch twice. Nice to be able to eat outside in the garden. Would however only recommend the pizza, as the other dishes we tried were not satisfactory. Staff were nice and welcoming.
