Guest Reviews
- Graham (8/5): I liked this place, but as the guidebook said, it would not be for everyone. - A great sea view. Best backpacker option in Accra. Plumbing
- Morenike (10/5): I’m glad I chose this place. It was exactly what I needed. I’m likely to visit again whenever I need a “me” time ❤️ - The location was perfect for me after a long trip, the environment, the sea view, trees … it’s so calming and the staff very welcoming.
- Britt (2/5): In the midst of temporary housing - The location is in an area where I couldn’t feel safe. It felt like in the midst of a slum in the midst of temporary housing.
It also seems to be a meeting point for people who want to find their inner selves through intake of substances.
- Benjamin (1/5): -
- Ahomlanto (8/5): We spent a really good time like at home. - The kitchen is optimal and the welcoming is really kind
- Benjamin (10/5): -
- Augustina Adamaka Igwegbe (1/5): Not my kind of place - When I got there, I had to cancel my reservation because it was not what I expected. It is a place for ratsta smoking weed and heavy sound of music, ratsta music. So I want somewhere else around down asylum. Not my kind of place
- Sadick (7/5): -
- Thomas (8/5): - Amazing views right by the sea. Nice chill breakfast area (with kittens!!!) and another separate bit where they host parties and stuff, good for socialising. Big enough room with comfortable bed, you get your own key so can arrive and leave whenever. Breakfast included is bread and tea/coffee with optional paid extras. They will probably charge you a bit more than booking.com said - I ended up paying 250 cedi ($23 €20 £17) a night which is still very cheap but not what was advertised. Breakfast is nice but took a long time (30-45 minutes) to arrive, so factor that in if you have plans
- YAW (7/5): - I like how cold and organised the premises look like, simple and sweet.
It is also above sea level and you can have a better sea view.
The staff are good in manners and very welcoming.
They also have enough trees and huts to provide enough shades.
The also have culture playground. I don't like the fact that, all the trashes were kept near the building openly.
Maybe they should get a big trash container so that when it is full, the Zoomlions can come for the trash.
- Nana Paul (1/5): Absolutely horrible. Please was unclear with toothpaste spit all over the bathroom sink there is no - Location Absolutely horrible. Please was unclear with toothpaste spit all over the bathroom sink there is no wifi and the room is very small and dirty.
- Dr. Opeyemi (7/5): - Fantastic Location Booking.com conflicting payment information
- Gifted (10/5): - WOLF ME EMPIRE love it
- Dr. Opeyemi (8/5): Nice Location - Location Conflicting Information from Booking.com on Payment and others
- Mark (1/5): Poor experience - Apart from the sea near the place. Nothing was good for me. I think you have to take this off your platform. It is a stink area with poor facilities. Poor environment with suspicious characters in and around the premises. Poor environment. In fact I regretted booking this place. And it looked like their food was quite expensive too.. They behaved like a first class facility but it's far below poor. I was told by a taxi driver at the airport but I never believed until I got there..I should have gone to sleep in my family house.

- Francis (3/5): -
- Ofori (5/5): - The staff are exceptional and the place too fit the money that they're taking. There should be more improvements in the rooms and both the toilet and bathroom also needs improvements because the last time I went there, the water was not working

- Entwi (8/5): Very good -
- Rowland (1/5): Very dirty and untidy place - There is nothing to like about in this place. It was so dirty and so uncomfortable The place is totally messed up. People smoking Indian hemp in the open, very dirty bathrooms and room. The environment is so untidy and dirty. I do not recommend this place at all.
- Derrick (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vincent (4/5): Disappointing - Sea view and feel comfortable Our shower was not coming
- Michael (7/5): Low-cost place to stay and enjoy Accra - Environment is super friendly; Facilities are okay for the price, place is also secure: forgot to lock my room with my pc when I went out. I love the coastal line, helped me sleep well (before coming here I have had insomnia for weeks) but they could deal with plastic pollution on their front
- Mukaila (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mpasiri (2/5): Horrible stay. - The only thing that made me stay was the ocean view There is no running water at the facility. You have to ask the staff for water and they take time to fetch the bathing water. The toilet would be messed up and at times with 💩. It just needs a proper house manager who has a high command. One other thing is that if they notice you're foreigner they try so hard to extort the pricing. They said the rate for the dollar cedi was 16.5 which isn't even there in the black market. I then requested to pay using my dollars to the person I was booking from. It also seems like a Marijuana smoking hub. The day I tried to sit by the bar it was all Marijuana the bedding and mattress are so dirty I thought i would go home with bed lice. A lor needs to be done at the place.
- Jocelyn (10/5): Exceptional - Peaceful atmosphere. The food was great also 🙂👍 NA
- Ishaak (1/5): Bad - I booked for a family, and the live videos I saw were horrible the family runaway immediately because is never never safe also even at their so called car park it was written you park at your own risk.. The Ghana tourist board should take them out. it is just shameful and horrible.
- Solomon (7/5): Good -
- Amegavi (4/5): Disappointing -
- Clemens (10/5): Lovely Place - The rising phoenix or Akuma Village (how the locals call it) is a simple and lovely Place to stay. The Beach is just 1 Min away. The Staff is verry kind and the food is fresh & excellent. It is a place where you can feel a lot of Love amongst the people. We had the luck to participate at a Reggae Soundsystem Dance with local artists to proof their talents. What a Vibration and high Energy!
- Andreas (4/5): Basic place near the beach, the main draw is the low room rate - Location near the beach and tourist sites, low room rate, helpful staff. Note: Review submitted on behalf of friend for whom the booking was made and who stayed at the lodge. Not exactly clean, basic facilities, other hotel guests seemed to smoke substances different from regular tobacco.
- Toni (10/5): - We had a wonderful time. Staff were all very polite and accommodating.
- Mohammed (1/5): This place should not be called hotel or on list of booking.com. - It was totally rubbish and it's dead smoker place.on 16th January morning got in the city taxi driver couldn't find the place then I try to ring but there wasn't picking the phone i end up in another hotel piad from my pocket and haveay taxi bill next morning Phoenix phone me i get to see place with my siut case when I told them I booked with booking. Com they wasn't aware of it but any was i did not like place the show me couple rooms but no where near to be called hotel or any star.i think place should not be on your list next if I book threw booking.com I am going to be very very careful. I lost whole of my money and the trubel I went threw the money I lost on taxis and looking for alternatives hotel and extra costs in strange country I never been i was very concerned about my safety. That place no where near to stay . Only sea front .
- Michael (1/5): Not to the amount paid - Dirty The room
- Abdellatif (8/5): Very good - Good location
Beautiful view No wifi
- RAVEN (10/5): - I always stay here when in Ghana, great spot for hippie travellers. Ocean views and veggie food.
- Derrick (10/5): The ocean is all you need!! Wonderful Experience - I Just Love This Place..It’s always a wonderful experience.. I Love everything
- RAVEN (10/5): - I have stayed here 4 times and will return to ideal place by the sea, perfect for hippie travellers with great veggie foods
- Alpha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alpha (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michel (6/5): Pleasant - The construction is nice, with a view over the ocean...but theres been little mantanaince. The staff looked uniterested, and simple questions like " can i have tea" could pose a challenge. The price charged is far too high for the accomodation.
- Chiara (1/5): Nightmare - Definitely not the condition of the room No water no Wi-Fi people smoking weed by my window cockroaches socket not working
- Tina (5/5): Passable - Rooms are great, we're satisfied with equipment and comfort of the beds. Also, it was nice waking up and falling asleep with the sound of an ocean. We booked rooms with shared bathroom and the problem was not having a water and we needed to ask staff to bring bucket of it for showing or using washroom every time.
- Kokou (1/5): Bad -
- Noble (7/5): Good -
- Josef (10/5): - Preis/Leistung passt, direkt am Meer ist toll
- Derrick (10/5): This stay was definitely one for the books - The hotel is set up right on the beach…and it’s soooooo relaxing..This place is definitely a budget friendly hidden gem in Accra and one must experience it to understand I loved everything about it
- Benjamin (1/5): Bad -
- Jason (8/5): - It’s good to have a budget hotel in such a wonderful location right on the coast. Very relaxing hotel with well priced food and drinks and nice atmosphere. A real Ghana experience. Wonderful people.
- Viola (10/5): - I loved the sound of the waves and the view of the ocean from ymy room.
The staff was kind, helpful, friendly and the service was excellent.
The accommodation is basic. The people who live outside of the Rising Phoenix compound are very poor but friendly!
- Carol (8/5): Great Veranda with view of sea and sea breeze - A bit run down and disorganized. Hard to find. Friendly staff. Great veranda with view of sea. Very acceptable for the price. Check in rather disorganized and I had to wait for room
- Nii (5/5): some little renovations will be good - Nice by the sea All well
- Cevat (1/5): Bad - Reseption girl stihl my mony All is bad
- Jeremiah (6/5): Pleasant -
- Anaëlle (6/5): Cheap and acceptable - We booked the cheapest room possible, and we were expecting just what is there. A bed to sleep on. Not very clean and comfortable, but acceptable for the price.
- Donna (7/5): Good - I like the location being surrounded by the ocean this was my main reason for staying Standing fan in room was not working only the ceiling fan worked the bathroom area could of been cleaner bucket was left with left over water from whomever used it last and the water cup was disgustingly slimy which showed it had not been washed for a long time I had to cut a water bottle open and use it instead I also had to buy Dettol to wash out the bucket and wash area before use. My main enjoyment was the scenery the ocean the tranquility of the surrounding nature is what I came for but the rooms can do better Osikan rooms are better for the money has Air conditioning and bigger beds at only 200 cedi I paid 300 cedi to stay because i booked online it's cheaper if you just go directly and pay but still more expensive than Osikan . Rising Phoenix is a nice place to be if you love nature the ocean especially because you feel like your sleeping on a boat only the boat is not moving you fall asleep and awake to the sounds of the ocean waves hitting the rocks and it's highly relaxing You can hang out amongst cool chilled people and just feel relaxed and indulge in the beautiful nature that surrounds you if your looking for materialistic Luxury this is not the place to come but if your looking for peacefulness tranquility surrounded and provided by nature Rising Phoenix is the place to be .
- Pat (7/5): Despite the condition of the place it had a certain charm. - Gorgeous location Door locks didn’t work and ensuite had no ventilation so it was smelly
- Jenelle (4/5): Nice vibe, scenery, and staff. Hotel needs work. - I booked a week stay at this hotel. When I got there, my room was not ready. I was upgraded to a room with a bathroom and had to pay extra. I should not have had to pay for an upgrade considering the room I booked was not ready. The room was not clean and I had to request the room be cleaned. The room door was broken also. I was told it would be fixed that day, and two days passed and it was not fixed. The staff was kind. They were willing to help get things in place, but they should have been done in advance. The neighborhood is not the best either. My cab driver was concerned about leaving me there, but inside of the resort, it was pleasant. Taking a cab from the front was fine and getting dropped off there was fine also. There was music and a bar. The vibe was nice. Being able to overlook the ocean was nice, but the room really wasn't nice to stay in. I ended up not staying there at all. The cost was super affordable, but what you pay for is what you get. When I came back to get my things, I noticed a big wet stain on the bed as the roof leaked when it rained the night before. I was in room #3. The staff was very nice and helpful, but the hotel needs work.
- Gabriel (3/5): Poor -
- Buccieri (1/5): Avoid - Nothing The whole place ,checked in then straight out ,paid for a deluxe room got a bed with a dirty sheet in a shed ,absolutely disgusting, the place stinks and is filthy, sea view, yes all the rubbish that's been dumped in the sea ..... horrendous.... the owner said , madam this is Africa.... noooo that's bad customer service, ghana is beautiful its the rising pheonix that's appalling
- Femke (10/5): Exceptional -
- Victoria (9/5): Superb -
- Nanaama (2/5): It was okay for the price I guess - I didn’t eat breakfast There was no water flowing and the bathroom was really bad looking
- Sausage (1/5): Worst Stay ever - The only good thing I can say about the place is the view.
The staff are also a bit okay. The rooms are terrible, not cleaned. One of the rooms I went to, had one of the bed posts coming off.
I had to change rooms 3 times before I got a room that was a bit okay.
- Guillaume (9/5): Superb - Beach. People are very kind.
The Place is so natural and simple. Good beer 🍻, Reggae music ❤️.
I forgot my documents to the airport and the woman who manages the reception helped me. Thank you 🙏🏾
See you next time!!! Bathroom and toilet are clean but sometimes you need to use bucket for water if you want to take a shower. They help you for that. So it's easy and for the price, I think that it's a good deal.
- Janica (10/5): Comfortable, safe, friendly, sunny place. - Very nice staff who are always ready to help you with anything. Homely environment, great location and beautiful place. Delicious food. Perfect for travellers who prioritize their experiences over luxury. The bathroom could only provide water from one tap at a time. The door of the room was hard to open or close. It is not for people who expect material luxury, but you get anything you need and much more in happiness!
- Victoria (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ayisha (1/5): Bad -
- Anonymous (6/5): Cool but not really impressed - It has a nice beach view. The place wasn’t very clean, tap water wasn’t flowing, shower wasn’t working. No product provided like soap, toilet roll, blanket.
- Mohammed (2/5): The place is very poor , service is very poor. - Everything is in poor state Nothing
- Prince (1/5): Bad - nothing. everything. poor sanitation, poor facilities but exuberant prices.
- Abdul (3/5): Poor -
- 743ravenm (10/5): A calm spot in a busy city. - A great place by the sea with an amazing view. I was there a month, the staff are lovely and like a family. Ths vegetarian cafe is better than most places to eat locally. There is a stagecares where local drummers and a dance ensemble perform too.
- Raven (10/5): Exceptional - Ths location is perfect. By the sea always a bit cooler than the rest of the city with an outstanding view of the bay if Guinea. Nothing the place or staff are to blame for. European travellers find limited choice and availability on menus all over Ghana. Rising Phoenix does it's best and the food is better than most.
- Janet (8/5): I enjoyed my stay here very much. The location was ideal, right in front of the ocean - The location was excellent. The staff were mostly friendly and the food was good. The bar man could benefit from learning better customer service. The place was ok but could benefit from making some small improvements to the rooms.
- Anonymous (3/5): Poor -
- Philip (9/5): Superb -
- Katarzyna (7/5): Good - This is a very basic and budget place with rasta/reggae vibe and amazing view on the sea. Don't expect much but also the price for accommodation is very low. We stayed here twice - on the night I'm just reviewing we were lucky to come just in time for reggae festival which lasted almost all night (Haile Sellasie coronation day), there was a great atmosphere, guests from Ethiopia etc. This was really a great experience so the discomforts in the room were of no importance. The bar serves Ghanaian beers and some other limited alcohol; there's also food available and it's really tasty. Staff varies from person to person, some are curt, some very nice; but generally you feel welcome here, there are also many frequenters who are happy to socialise;) The room we occupied that night (no 7) had a fan which was literally hanging on the last thread so we were afraid to switch it on for the night as we feared it would decapitate us :D Really, even some slight renovation effort would make this place so much nicer:)
- Katarzyna (7/5): Good - This was our 2nd stay in this place, this time we got room no 1 which was really good, the fan (tiny though) was working, there was a private bathroom, quite a lot of space, some shelves and even a wardrobe;) Saturday night was very quiet in the bar (we expected more party atmosphere after our first stay) but altogether it was pleasant.) In the morning we bought breakfast which was quite tasty. There was no running water when we woke up in the morning, no chance to take a shower, flush the toilet etc, which was pretty frustrating. When we were leaving around 13.00 still no change, no water. This is a real issue. I understand the price is low as this is a basic and budget place but no running water at all for half a day killed all our positive vibe impressions. Maybe if you're staying here for while it's okay to wait for water to come back but we had a flight to take so it was a real nuisance, not sure how often this lack of water happens but I don't recommend the place when you're about to take a long flight and need to shower before;)
- Murphy (1/5): The place is really dirty and the price was too expensive for the nature of the room -
- Priscilla (4/5): Disappointing -
- Carl (1/5): Bad - Nothing The worst hotel have ever visited the bedspreads are stained, rats were all over the ceiling. I won't recommend this place for my enemy.
- Michael (5/5): Passable -
- Marie (7/5): Basic, clean, old hippie vibes, good value for money - The location is beautiful - you've got the ocean right in front of you. It is a bit noisy at night because of the waves, and still - just beautiful and serene. The accommodation and facilities are basic and clean. Everything was working. Only breakfast took a bit long, that's all. I will be back.
- Emmanuel (3/5): Poor -
- Demba (1/5): I couldn't infact spend night there. - It's closeness to the beach. The cleanliness of the houses, it's facilities -eg: fans, curtains, bedsheets, door lock etc.
I was very concerned about my security there.
- Nikolaos (10/5): Exceptional - It is a very nice hotel that has a great view of the sea right outside your window. The hotel is also in the most central place of Accra close to the forts, the lighthouse and the Makola market. The restaurant they have is excellent with authentic Ghanian dishes and the quantity is also great. Very affordable prices.
- Marfo (6/5): It was a good experience - It was good I'm cool with the place
- Catherine (2/5): - Worst place ever
- Caitlin (6/5): Ok, basic. - It's right by the sea, you can hear the waves and enjoy the view of the ocean. There is a bar. It's very cheap. The staff are friendly and kind. It is not easy for drivers to find, it is down a muddy uneven road which a few drivers didn't understand how to get to it. The was hardly any food actually available for lunch in the restaurant on Friday lunch time. Most rooms have a shared bathroom with two toilets and 2 bucket showers, but they were pretty clean. The water was shut off during a rain storm which I guess happens a lot in rainy season. It could do with some refurbishment.
- Enyonam (1/5): Bad -
- Edward (1/5): Bad - Poor room and no ventilation The room was small like animals room
- Osahon (7/5): Good -
- Lisa (4/5): Disappointing - the worst room we had in Ghana. it was dirty, broken, there still was garbage from the visitors before us in the room, no blanket, the oldest mattress I have ever seen. seems like they didn’t put any effort in the place which is sad, because it could be a cool place. oh…and don’t disturb the people working there 🤷♀️
